Boston Seirenkai Academy: what do users think?
Sergio Pina: I have known and trained with Sensei Greenberg for many years. He is not only a passionate and skilled instructor but a man of impeccable character with a heart to serve others. I would highly recommend you try this dojo and the art of Seirenkai.
Forrest Ash: Karate is challenging but rewarding. You are pushed hard to reach your full potential. This class is like a family and open to all. It is very affordable. I ask a lot of questions but they are happy to answer. They're youthful gogetters so I can relate to them.
Tiffany Chan: I have coordination of a newborn deer and the flexibility of uncooked spaghetti. I fought real bad, but now after Boston Seirenkai I fight real okay now! XD
Junaid Syed: I've been a student here for about a year and a half, I figured that's a long enough time to be able to give a review.Taking classes with Boston Seirenkai has been a great experience and some of the most fun I've had. Everyone here is friendly and the overall environment is very positive and encouraging without being too easy. Being part of this dojo truly feels like being part of a family.Sensei Greenberg is an excellent instructor (it probably helps that he's a teacher in his day job). He's very good about giving personal attention and helping students improve on their individual weaknesses. I've definitely grown quite a bit as a student here, and it's honestly embarrassing when I look at videos of when I first started out.One of my favorite parts is attending the karate seminars/retreats. The International Seirenkai Organization will host a full day of martial arts classes where you learn new techniques, gain weapons handling experience, and learn to think outside the box when defending yourself. The best part is being able to work with and learn from dozens of black belts that fly in from around the world. It's immediately humbling when you see just how skilled these people are, but also exciting to think that could be you one day.

Krav Maga Yashir - Boston: what do users think?
Peter Drinkell: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueGreat school if your looking to learn from one of the best Krav Maga Instructors in the USA. Then look no further from Gershon, his classes are dynamic, and the instruction is excellent. highly recommend.
Scott Garland: Best martial arts school I've trained at.
Stephen Wrobleski: I've been taking classes here for about 4 years now. The training is top notch backed by strong theoretical concepts. If you're looking for a school this is the best place you could go.
Gym Time: Excellent teaching and philosophy. This is not a martial “art”. It’s what works in real life situations. Situational awareness, everything can become a weapon, and how to be positioned for the best outcome. It takes Murphy’s law and puts the ball in your court.
elle steiner: If you want to learn krav maga this is the place to go. Gershon is incredibly knowledgeable and an amazing instructor, as is Liz and the whole crew. The no ego all inclusive environment is really great, and the free women's self defense class is like no other in the city. I can't say enough good things about this place. Just go!
Pat Scanlan: I've been taking classes for about two months now.I couldn't of picked a better place to learn Krav Maga. Gershon (instructor) has vast knowledge and experience in Krav Maga. His approach to teaching makes it easy for anyone to learn. You won't just learn techniques in his class Gershon is also able to explain the physiological aspect of self defense and is able to incorporate it into his teachings. Learning how your opponent thinks emotionally and being able to pick up cues that might lead to a violent situation is a valuable skill that will save your life. Gershons a fun guy but is serious when he needs to be. It doesn't matter if your a beginner with no experience or if your intermediate, everybody there is welcoming and it's like a family. If you wanna learn how fight and come out on top then go here. I just wish there were more times available to train. Gym is clean and prices are affordable. Member coordinator there is outgoing and professional and other instructors involved are awesome. I highly recommend Krav Maga Yashir to anybody interested in learning real self defense.
Dan B: I have been taking classes at Krav Maga Yashir for the last two months. Gershon is a terrific instructor that combines real world situation instruction with the psychology behind the solutions. The training environment is top notch, and the other students are terrific training partners. I highly recommend Krav Maga Yashir.
Justin Brown: Great school, real training for the the real world.
Aeon DeNigris: I have been taking classes here for six weeks now. I highly recommend this school to anyone in the Boston area who is interested in learning realistic self defense techniques and strategies.
North: Good scenarios and situational defense
jahrenropt ropt: Hidden gem! Location not obvious, not much ad to find out that this place exists in Charlestown!
Stephanie Robbins: If you are looking for a real Krav Maga school, this is the place to go! I have been training here for a few years now, after starting in the FREE women's self-defense/protection classes on Saturdays. I new immediately that this was the school for me. After sticking with the womens-only class for a while, I nervously transitioned into the members-only/co-ed classes and was sold after my first session. On top of the great instructors, the students are so welcoming and patient with new people. It was clear to me that this was a community and not just a gym. Don't get me wrong, you wil get a killer workout but everyone is obviously in it together. If you are still skeptical about joining, I think they still offer a few free classes so you get a feel for the school. Trust me, you won't regret giving it a spin!
Justin Termini: I've been training here for a few years and I can honestly say that making the decision to start was one of the most important moments in my life. The level of instruction here is such that one will quickly gain a sense of confidence and knowledge about potentially violent situations that will give them an edge over those may wish to do them harm. The information presented in the classes is done with a sense of realism that gives the student the ability to not only understand typical violent encounters, but to also approach them with a level of respect that will help to keep them out of harm's way.The atmosphere created at the school is warm and inviting, with respect being shown to everyone who steps onto the mats. I, like most people, was nervous before my first class, but this nervousness was put at ease rather quickly, as everyone seemed to go out of their way to make me feel comfortable. There is a close, friendly environment amongst the students here, without any sense of exclusion. The school offers Krav Maga classes five days a week. There is also a great gym area, which includes traditional gym fare, like dumbbells, Olympic bar bells, and exercise bikes, as well as more exotic (i.e. awesome) equipment, like Atlas stones, kettlebells, sandbags, viking press, etc. There are plenty of open gym hours, which allows students a great opportunity to get in some extra training time .If you're on the fence about trying out a class, I'd urge you to do so. The school offers a week of free Krav Maga classes, which will give you time to get a feel for the classes and the vibe of the school. If you're nervous about getting on the mats, don't worry, everyone is at first. What you won't find here is any kind of elitist attitude or judgement. Give it a shot.
Charles Diaz: Best gym, workout and people I have ever had a chance to experience

Boston Martial Arts Center: what do users think?
L AR: I have been training at Boston Martial Arts for more than 10 years. After trying a number of different martial arts and schools, I was thrilled to find a dojo that is inclusive and diverse, offers a fun and cooperative learning environment, and teaches a really engaging and interesting art. After having had a bad experience at another dojo I realized how important it is to have a teacher that I deeply respect and whom I could see myself learning from for a very long time, and Mr. Mark Davis is that for me.I trained here throughout my grad school years and return to train whenever I can even though I no longer live in the area because the school and the art have beclme an important part of my life.Highly recommend.
Aditi Agrawal: Positive:Professionalism,ValueExtremely good. An important component in my daily life . :)
Andrew Norton: Truly unique and amazing atmosphere. Although I am simply a beginner, I have trained in different martial arts systems in the past, and the Boston Martial Arts Center is by far the best school I have trained at. Our teacher, Mark Davis is perhaps the best individual I have studied under in any field. The entire staff are amazing ; welcoming, professional, fierce practitioners. This is 'Real Self Defense' and a fascinating system. As students we also benefit from being in a School that has direct connections to Mr. Stephen K. Hayes, and Hatsumi Sensei. Unbeatable!
Cyrus Bardouille: I liked the focus the classes and environment helped me to develop. Being able to channel my hyper activity into calming my spirit and building mind and body allowed me to grow.
No Name: I've been a student here for ten years. I've trained at other martial arts schools, and in other systems, and I have never found a more welcoming place, where the instructors are not only dedicated to giving their students the best training in self defense available, but also to helping their students better themselves through the martial arts. Mark Davis, the head teacher, keeps the atmosphere fun and family friendly, while also delivering the most serious treatment on the subject of getting home safely. This isn't a sport martial arts school; the training available here has only one purpose- to keep you safe. It has the added side effects of building confidence, agility, strength, and a sense of purpose. This school really brings out the best in people, and the people who train and teach here are the best in the world.
Joe Szep: Mark Davis is a highly knowledgable, friendly, and patient instructor. He is a rare source of accumulated knowledge and wisdom. You are encouraged to learn new skills and develop yourself. I have made many friends at the dojo. It feels like family to me there. Whether you are interested in learning self-defense or martial arts, you should come by, check out the dojo, and try a class!
Jennifer Kronmiller: great atmosphere.
Robert R.: Bad Atmosphere.

Mac Donald Academy of Martial Arts: what do users think?
Steve: I have two kids that go here! We love it they have tons of patience and a very experienced
Reagan Moulis: My daughters and their friends did a group class with Brian and learned so much. Everyday they came so excited to show us what they learned. Brian did a great job keeping them engaged and always learning. This was such a great experience for our kids. They also did a great job with COVID protocols. I felt very safe having our kids go there all winter. It was really a great experience!!
Helluva Dip: This man was motivated my life. Started with him 20 years ago. Wish I still lived in the area I’d be there every night. You can’t go wrong. The macdonalds are good people. Brian and Tara are class acts. Glad to see they are still there.Ruben and Minh hope they are doing wellBtw. Read the negative review. The only one.Dude you were in the wrong Cliff go away.
Source: the MacDonald's are superb teachers and are all around good people.
Josh Passell: My children spent years here, and enjoyed every class. Students learn how to have fun, how to defend themselves, and the values of respect for themselves and others. These are traits that the one-star reviewer below sadly lacks. What a pity he never studied here as a child. He would be a gentleman today.
Katie S: The Macdonald Academy of Martial Arts is an AMAZING place. The husband and wife owners are extremely talented, kind, patient, generous, genuine and dedicated.I have 2 daughters who have taken classes at the Macdonald Academy for approximately 1.5 years. When they began, they were terrified. Slowly but surely they have been gaining confidence and skill. They love coming to class!!The Macdonalds do a great job with each kid— it doesn’t matter if you are super athletic and coordinated or if you’re the kid who is always picked last for a team. They nurture and encourage each kid— while still holding every child to a very high standard.I highly recommend the Macdonald Academy of Martial Arts!
Melissa M: We have been attending karate classes at MacDonald’s for over two years. I am consistently impressed with the quality of the program and curriculum. My son has benefited both physically and mentally from their caring and professional approach, and I would highly recommend this program to others.

Combat Sports Boston: what do users think?
Danny DiGiacomo: Best martial arts gym I’ve ever been a part of. Excellent facilities, equipment, classes, and atmosphere; the best part of this gym, however, is the coaching staff. Their experience & knowledge combined with their attentiveness to the students is what makes this gym special.
Iain Kehoe: Started here Dec 2022. I'm glad I did. If you want to train muay thai or bjj in Boston this is the place to go.
Brian Cutts: Got to come by to drop off flyers for American Grappling Federation, while I was in the gym CSU’s staff made me feel at home and helped me answer any questions about their programs.
Noah Lucia: Coming from a traditional martial arts background, I was excited to hear Wu Tang blasting when I showed up!!! I came in for a trial session, a sparring night. Great mix of levels. Great muy thai teacher. Great vibe.
Ralph Spetalnick: Great gym, friendly atmosphere, lots of classes
Zach Marcoulier: Friendly and inclusive gym with great instructors. Great for all ages and skill levels.
Andrew Seid: If you want to start training jiu jitsu in a fun atmosphere this is your gym. You get out what you put in so whether you’re trying to build muscle, burn fat, or be the next polarizing black belt this is where you make that happen.
Fabio Lima: Best community I've ever been part of. Friendly helpful amazing people. I've been part of this gym for about 6 years and no other gym can compare.
Cris Schayer: I came into this gym November 2018 and it's become a second home. I've never met such patient, motivating, and passionate coaches.A little background about me: I came from another gym I wont mention, where the atmosphere was very toxic and unwelcoming towards female. The type of mentality that unless you were doing cardio, get out of the way of the weight lifting gym bros.Coming from this background, I was super nervous to go to a new gym, especially one that focused on Combat. My very first visit, Mat, one of the Muay Thai instructors was very welcoming and extremely patient. I've been hooked ever since, and now take both the Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes. As a female, the instructors' number one priority is to make us feel welcomed and anything otherwise is never tolerated. Not only are the instructors amazing, but the members here are also awesome! They've become family to me. No male has ever made me uncomfortable in Muay Thai or Jiu Jitsu.Monday's Evening Women's Muay Thai class with Kru James is such an awesome, welcoming group, that really pushes me physically. I NEVER want to miss a class! Tuesdays 6:00-7:00 Muay Thai Fundamental class is great refresher of the basics and its always exciting to see new people attend.A new awesome addition is Sunday's Women Open Mat. As a female new to jiu jitsu, this has been an awesome class that pushes me and gets me more and more comfortable rolling around with other sweaty people. Another bonus is meeting some amazing, savage women that train from other gyms. Sunday and Mondays have become my women's gathering. The gym also offers a wide arrange of weight training equipment, cardio machines and classes are offered in the morning, afternoon and evenings, to fit every schedule. To put it simply: I LOVE THIS PLACE
JERRY REVICH: Fantastic gym, training, and workout. Highly recommended for all levels. Thanks guys
Miguel Angel Bello: This gym is out of the standards(BJJ, MMA, Muay Thai). Excellent professors and students as well. Everybody here do their best to help each other. Try it once and I am pretty sure you will stay!!
Omar Qusrawi: Absolutely the best gym in Boston. You will be coming to the right place no matter what kind of training you are aiming for, be it competitive or just casual. Two years later, I have followed the competitors path and have been nurtured. The coaching staff is absolutely fantastic you will get world class training here, they pick up on your flaws promptly, and they make you feel welcome and at home very quickly. They are all extremely qualified having competed professionally at certain times in their lives. The people who come here are also spectacular, very helpful and kind, no malicious intent while sparring. Easily the best gym in Boston. On top of that, the gym is like a family, the environment fostered is very much a home. You can't go wrong here.
jideofor ojukwu: You cant go wrong coming to this gym, as it will leave a lasting impression on you. The atmosphere, teachers, and students are all great factors of this gym. There are people always willing to work with you and help you out, so there is never the feeling of being left out. You will learn a lot from the teachers who always go out their to help you perfect your technique, which can later be used in competitions or real world situations. Overall the sense of family is strong here, so if you got the time come and check this gym out.
Erik N: This is a very good gym with excellent coaches and excellent classes. All of the instructors are very knowledgeable and helpful to beginners and more experienced competitors alike. The rates are very reasonable and they allow you to pay by the class if you want. I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Alpha Krav Maga Boston: what do users think?
Jyoti Mulik: Excellent martial art class for all age group people.
Kolt: Amazing people and amazing classes. After just one month I feel like I have learned so much about self defense and also have been getting the best workouts of my life. Dennis and Karen are incredible people and great coaches! Could not recommend more!
Shawn Hudson: Excellent school, the classes are informative, intense, and practical. The coaches are very knowledgeable and helpful. Staff and students all have a very positive attitude. Highly recommend!
Harry Benjamin Handler: Jordan and Dennis have great experience and are genuine instructors. Classes are fun and effective. Highly highly recommend!
Emily Scott: Honestly such an amazing studio and community to be a part of! I was only a member briefly as i moved away but i learned so much while i was there and the instructors and owners went above and beyond on every occasion for their members hosting theme nights and bbq's etc. I've seen the female owner braiding girls hair before classes and everyone makes you feel comfortable and safe. Members are all very nice humans and not at all intimidating. Overall i can't recommend this studio enough!
Marcial Morales: Did a trial class. Loved it. Coming back to sign up next week. This is exactly what I was looking for 👍💪👊
Jesse Brit: Excellent!
Rich Tartarini: Great training. Met some really nice people. Learning something new and challenging yourself is what life is all about. A few hours a week is rewarding on many levels starting with commitment. There is no intimidation at the school as training progresses slowly together with folks in similar levels and some with no athletic background. Fellow students are from various professions including a nurse and white collar folks like myself but once class starts, we are all in the same boat learning a skill together and staying physically active for health and well being. Check in with Dennis or Karen for more guidance.
Michelle: I attended the free class not expecting much to be honest as how much can you really learn in a free 1-hour class, but boy was I wrong. Not only did I have a blast, but I learned a ton and felt more confident than I had in awhile. You will not regret taking a class no matter who you are! I highly recommend this studio and these instructors. Go for it 💪🏼
Raghvender Thakur: Of all the living beings in nature human beings are inferior to other in physical strength when it comes to bare hand combat. But what we lack in strength we can make up by learning specific set of self defense skills. The gurus for those skills are here. They will teach you, train you, improve you, brush you, sharpen you, prepare you. To think that to start learning those skills is too early or too late or you are too weak or too small then come see for yourself. I have seen kids learning discipline, teens learning control, professionals learning after tiredness and old learning after retirement. The skills that I am learning have made me capable enough to perform certain tasks that I assumed I never could. Lessons learned have helped me in a real scenario. I am grateful and thankful for the teachings of Alpha Krav Maga gurus.
Kebert Joseph: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueThe instructors at Alpha are devoted to their craft and pay keen attention to detail while training all the members. Krav Maga has proved to be foundational in my personal growth and it's been an amazing experience as a member of the Alpha family.
Joseph Brown: I joined Alpha Krav Maga Boston about 2 years ago, mostly out of curiosity – no real long-term plan, just looking to augment my workout regime – but between the inclusive environment, enthusiasm of the coaching staff and accessibility of the training programs, I stuck around and have loved every minute of it!For me, the most important element of joining a gym is not feeling like the odd one out because I’m the new guy. Prior to joining AKMB, I’ve tested a few other martial arts studios. For each of them, I rarely felt engaged with the coaches or the training programs – the classes seemed aimed at catering only to the elite or veteran students, and in some cases it appeared as if the new students were treated almost like a burden. I know myself and my schedule – I’m going to be more of a casual student, not brawling in championship cage fights.Head coaches Dennis and Karen have put together an amazing team of hard-working and passionate trainers (Jordan, Amanda and Charles to name a few) who don’t approach coaching with a one-size-fits-all mentality. Each class focuses on a foundational skill set, and new students are encouraged to ask questions to improve understanding before moving on to more complicated levels. Coaches make themselves available after class to talk through techniques, and higher-level students often provide insights from when they were starting out. All around, the atmosphere at AKMB fosters personal growth at your own pace, providing all the tools you need to reach your goals, not theirs.Highly highly recommend AKMB for anyone curious about picking up some new krav skills or just looking for a great workout!
S T: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueI cannot say enough positive things about Alpha. The coaches are knowledgeable and supportive and the classes help you build your self defense skills while offering a fun and engaging way to workout. I highly recommend!
John Roberts: Alpha Krav Maga Boston is the place to train. Not only do they have a great knowledge filled coaching staff, but also a team that you can tell is always ready to go the extra mile for their students!
Ankita Sharma: Tried to keep it as short as I can, but I think details help, so here I go :-)1. Why/When/Where Krav Maga?I have been wanting to learn Self-defense but wasn't sure which one would be more effective. While researching about 'Krav Maga' on web, I came across with this highly rated & recommended Martial arts school in Malden, MA.So, 1.5 years back on my birthday I tried to give this a shot attending their 3 Free trial classes. In first trial class, coaches work personally to introduce one to Krav Maga. In other two trial classes, one gets to train with the other white belt students part of a regular class. These classes pretty much give all the reasons why one should join, where you can take your time to make up your mind before joining. What makes Krav Maga more interesting for me is its hybrid nature of various martial arts/full contact combat sports like boxing, kick boxing, Brazillian Jiu Jitsu, Judo and Karate to build reality based effective and efficient fighting techniques, using which here in this school we are taught how to de-escalate & avoid getting into a fight, but if we can't, what all possible things we can do to save ourselves. In addition to hand - hand combative, weapon training is incorporated as we graduate from the beginner level. It would be unfair to only expect to learn Self-defence in 'Alpha Krav Maga Boston' as they very much have separate classes for other combat sports like Boxing, Kick Boxing and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu all comes as a part of the regular curriculum.2. Coaches:Dennis and Karen (the strong foundation of this school) are best in making each one feel home and welcomed every time we step in. Out of many students in school, they can identify each individual with their 'name' even we would have met them just once (can you believe that?)It goes without saying, all the other coaches I got the chance to train with (Rob, Bob, Tom, Charlie, Jordon, Donovan, Amanda and Joe) inherit the same roots and train one providing the best supervision and detailed techniques per their expertise, paying full attention to each individual.3.EnviromentThe premises is all filled with super friendly environment, making one feel comfortable and easy going with all the fellow mates who constantly motivate, support and try to lift each other up. The male - female ratio of students is almost equal. As long as the gym is open, one is welcomed to practice and brush up the techniques with the coaches who are always willing to help.4. Ranking system:They have belt based ranking system levelled from White, Yellow, Orange, Green, Blue, Purple, Brown and Black which motivates one to always work towards their next goal. Also, they have have both Adults & Kids classes. It's delightful to watch kids being trained with so much discipline & awareness, leading a path to be physically & mentally strong.5. Fees:I found the fees quite worthy of what and how much is taught, per their flexible schedule, where per your curriculum you can attend as many classes scheduled in a day.During COVID19 outbreak, they have been trying to put their best efforts in keeping the training going using virtual sessions, applying lots of creativity & improvisation.6. Summary:In last 1.5 years, I have seen myself evolving, becoming stronger, smarter and confident.I'm now more aware of the surroundings, responsible both towards one self & others ,more disciplined,t's Since it's a long journey from White to Black belt, I am still training & looking forward to get the maximum out of it.
Phil M: I've been studying Martial Arts on and off for over 50 years now and decided about 5 years ago that I wanted to learn Krav Maga. I checked out various schools and instructors and decided to take a free lesson with Coach Dennis at Alpha Krav Maga. There were no preconceived expectations from either of us and Coach Dennis worked with me to teach me a little about Krav as he learned a little about me. One of the first things he noticed is that I am a "lefty" and for all those prior years, I had been practicing as a "righty." Not necessarily an easy fix, but a better fix. Even up to today, he and the other coaches will demonstrate a technique for the class and take the time to say, "so Phil, you do it this way" and they'll show me how to do it as a lefty. Coach Dennis, Coach Karen, and all of the other coaches are all very well skilled in Krav Maga and some other Martial Arts. Each of the coaches takes the time to work with each student, whether its children or adults, to help them perfect techniques and understand principals and details. Alpha Krav Maga trains, mind, body, and spirit. The coaches and other students treat each other as if they are family. It's a great school.
Dave Bo: I have trained here going on 3 years. My 11 year old son has as well and we love it!Great atmosphere, wonderful people and amazing coaches.I highly recommend Alpha Krav Maga Boston for adults & children alike.
Katie Govoni: Wonderful location with well versed instructors and hard working classes. Come with any level of experience and after only a few classes you will leave feeling like part of a dedicated family.
Patrick Desmond: Been coming for 2 months now and absolutely love it. No matter what level of fighting experience you have thr Alpha Krav Team has your back. Real life defense situations unlike traditional karate which is so much more practical for real life situations.
corexcore617: I am so glad that I finally signed up at Alpha Krav Maga after passing it so many times. I used to do Krav Maga years ago and finally decided to get back into it. Dennis and all of the instructors take the time to make a personal connection with all of the students and it really does feel like a family atmosphere. Krav Maga is amazing for self-defense, disciple, and an entertaining way to stay fit. I can't recommend Krav Maga enough to those of all ages and would encourage everyone to at least take a trial class to see what it's all about. Thanks again to Dennis, Karen, and the entire coaching staff for making Alpha Krav Maga feel like a home away from home.
Emily Sade: Head Coach, Dennis Amato is an outstanding, highly skilled and professional martial artist. His technique, staff and well-equipped location far exceeds any expectations you will have in searching for a place to learn reality-based self-defense. Stop in and see for yourself.
