India: I really like the Smoke Shop, the BBQ and other smoked meats always hit the spot and the drinks are fantastic. The mac & cheese, collard greens & cornbread are my go to. I'm taking a star away due to the fact that the last few times that I have visited the food (including sides) have been served below room temperature. I understand things can happen however this is the third time. Food is still good but if served at least somewhat hot would make it great.

J. Palmer: Today I ordered a pulled chicken sandwich with fries and let me tell you the bread was soggy, The chicken had no flavor and barely any sauce. For pulled chicken i had one massive piece of chicken nothing pulled about it. I also ordered the Sticky Ribs which must have stuck to the counter because it never came with my order. I thought that the Mississippi Mud would have been a great finishing touch as well. Boy oh boy was i wrong. And why the hell was spicy peanuts added to the Mississippi Mud I have no idea but I threw the whole order in the trash. I will never order from here again to spend over $50 dollars and not get the correct food. Or some food with some flavor is a big disappointment. This is not the place for BBQ just stay home and save your money or order a pizza either way don't make the same mistake i did... NEVER AGAIN

cat: I knew this is a slopy bbq place when I saw there isn't even collar greens on the menu. Came here years ago thought it was mediocre but now it is beyond bad.We ordered many different items and everything tasted very dry, besides the brussel spouts that are completely soaked in oil. Ribs, fried chicken, turkey breast, mac n cheese, toast, etc. are tasteless and dry. Sides are all premade and super sloppy.Service was extremely slow and had very bad attitude. Parking is always hard to find.

Carlos Gomes: Great clean location with ample seating. You can't go wrong with any of the bowl. My favorite is the mac and cheese with the brisket, hots, corn and the corn bread. The lines move quick do if your ever in a rush don't worry. And everyone it's so nice and patient edith your order. Also the desert are the best treat.

Shed's is located near Downtown Crossing and so a barbecue place in downtown Boston is going to be interesting. I had a low expectation but it was nicely exceeded today.Brisket was quite moist though covered in sauce. Decent flavor and consistency, maybe a little too sauced but still decent.For sides, the mac & cheese was very good. Not too much cheese, plenty of flavor and the noodles were firm. Cole slaw was good. Tart with an appropriate amount of mayonnaise. Maybe some more celery seed would be nice but that's just how I make my own. Corn bread was excellent. Firm, moist, not sweet.Restaurant is clean and well maintained. It's not obvious walking in that it's not table service but I figured it out promptly.

Normally when I have to choose between roast duck or soy sauce chicken, I go for SSC so I haven't had duck in so long. Well now this place has reminded me that roast duck is a major contender lol.This is a very small spot that if it weren't for the yellow sign, you might miss it. It's a different set up of having to go downstairs and it has a steep ramp when you get inside. But the duck was very flavorful and not overly salty for me. It has the same issues that SSC does, the tiny bone bits you gotta be careful when you eat. Ah well, it's very worth it. They cut it up for you and it was packaged neatly considering how messy it really is. They do cash only and there isn't really much seating available but it's fine, their food makes up for it.

One food group I noticed wasn’t very common here was BBQ. I’m not surprised, seafood is the main draw on the East Coast.Being from the Midwest, we do love our BBQ. I saw “The Smoke Shop” on my Caviar app & figured I’d give it a try. It looked spectacular and the reviews were positive.I’m glad I ordered it. During my 5-month stay here, I must’ve ordered there at least a dozen times. Their burnt ends sandwich keeps me coming back over and over again.The prices are up there, but the quality and quantity more than makes up for that. The bun is fresh and soft. It holds up well to the hefty, sauced burnt ends.I choose to eat the larger pieces with a fork before attacking the entire sandwich. They do not skimp here and you get HUGE burnt ends. I’ve eaten a lot of barbecue. I won’t lie: I want the owners to know. This is THE BEST BBQ I have ever had. I was BLOWN AWAY.Their sides are also amazing and it’s a very tough choice choosing. The Collard Greens and Cornbread are absolutely incredible. I’ll admit I was not a fan of the taste or texture of their Pimento Mac & Cheese. Michael Theisen: Very fast, friendly, efficient service. Really good barbecue (beef burnt ends sandwich, baked beans with beef brisket), nice assortment of sauces (mustard-based, sweet, spicy). Somewhat limited selection of beers, but liked the Zero Gravity Madonna double IPA; glass provided without having to ask. Enormous whisky selection; didn’t drink any. Open late. Music good, not too loud. Reasonable prices for the area. You should go, and then go again if you can. Three suggestions for the owner: (1) level the wobbly tables; they’re annoying. (2) provide spoons in the utensil pack; eating baked beans with a fork is silly. (3) Briefly grill fry the inside of the buns for sandwiches; they would be even tastier.

The brisket was definitely the winner for the meats, it just melted in your mouth! So deliciously spiced and yummy, wish I got this as a main! The ribs were pretty good and tasty!Fully recommended!

Jay Yi: I am a long-time customer and have always enjoyed their food and service for more than 4 yrs. However, I recently had a very disappointing experience that I feel compelled to share.I ordered two biscuit buckets from the restaurant. Upon opening the packaging, I was appalled to find black mold on the biscuits. It was evident that the biscuits were not fresh and were unfit for consumption. This is a cause for concern, as the consumption of moldy food can pose serious health risks.What made this situation even more frustrating was the complete lack of response from the restaurant. I reached out to their customer service multiple times, but have yet to receive any acknowledgment or resolution to this issue. As a loyal customer, I am extremely disappointed by this unresponsiveness and lack of attention to such a critical issue.In light of these circumstances, I cannot recommend this place at this time. I sincerely hope that the management will take the necessary steps to prevent similar incidents in the future. Until then, I advise potential customers to exercise caution when ordering from this establishment.
Nathaniel Yee: Had the big cheeks tray with the pork belly and sliced brisket. For sides I had the mac and cheese and coleslaw. The sliced brisket was super well cooked juicy and tender. I had a good fat content and its flavor could stand alone without the sauces. The pork belly was also super flavorful and flavorful. Of the three sauces the best was the citrus habenaro followed by the classic bbq and last the vinegar. The coleslaw was probably the best thing on the tray, it was super fresh crisp and light. The addition of the celery seeds gave it a nice touch. The mac and cheese was nothing to right home about and pretty standard.

You have to get the bucket of biscuits it’s $16 for four biscuits but the biscuits are huge and come with a cinnamon butter oh you can’t just eat one you want to eat all of them lol then for food all the food was good I can’t just recommend one item other than the biscuits but anything you get you will enjoy!

I buy it in bulk so I never run out of it at home. I've even made a delicious shrimp salad with the coleslaw - add a ton of cooked shrimp and blend in Zatarain's Creole seasoning to taste. I've had school cafeteria meals that were better than this and I don't know how this place has such good reviews. I would give 0 stars if I could.

The bar was empty, over lite, decorations removed, no one present, no server, and the beer selection has been cut in a third. No wonderful regulars, fun bartenders, quirky decor, just an empty room that resembles the old place.Next, I checked the menu and the prices have doubled. Finally a server got off her phone and took my order in a lackluster fashion. The delivered food was subpar and delivered without fanfare in a Styrofoam container with plastic utensils. Eventually, I had to hunt down the uninterested server to pay.This, once wonderful place, seems to be on hospice wait, for it’s eventually demise. Sad to see such an iconic place, that revitalized Davis square, on its death bed. What happened to this place?

Hidden Gem: Location is really nice and the environment was good too. I thought the selection of beer was a plus as well. The food (especially the meats) left me a little underwhelmed. I used to go to the Brookline Village location back in the day and this was my first time back to try the one at Assembly Row.The sides were good (coleslaw was my favorite). For meats, I ordered the pulled pork and ribs and both were unfortunately dry. Adding sauce helped but unfortunately it wasn’t what I was expecting. Boston BBQ scene doesn’t leave many options but expanding seems to have knocked the smoke shop down a few pegs from where it once was.

I have never had a good experience with bbq (having only tried places in the northeast) so i had guarded expectations, so i was so happy and surprised when the food was great!I got the bbq spaghetti, texas caviar (a cold black eyed pea and pepper mix), and burnt ends. There were 2 slightly different kinds of bbq sauce that came with it. Or maybe it was just two things of the same sauce? anyways, the burnt ends were great, there were some beautifully fatty pieces and some quite lean and crisped up pieces. The flavour for both types of burnt ends were great though i preferred the fattier ones.BBQ spaghetti was a huge surprise and highlight for me, a sweet and spiced sauce coated the spaghetti and there were some crisped up parts of the spaghetti to serve as textural contrast.Personally I didn't like the texas caviar much. it was slightly vinegary and the black eyed peas were a great texture, but I just didn't find it too exciting. Nothing was wrong with it in particular.My friend got the fried catfish with mac n cheese and slaw, all of which tasted great to me as well. The catfish was coated in a vinegary sauce.The lady who served us was really nice as well.If I have the chance, I will definitely return to try their other offerings.

Tony Bianco: This past weekend My wife, brother in law, and I were at the FANEXPO at the Boston Convention center. After a long day of nerding out, we left the convention center to look for some food before we made the trip back home (Connecticut). We stumbled upon Larry J's and decided to give it a shot. My wife ordered first. Who I can only assume was Larry J took our order and he gave my wife some attitude when she asked for a description of some of the BBQ sauces. He told her that they were listed on the menu (not on the board in the window) and pushed a menu towards us. I figured maybe its a common question and he's sick of repeating it. After she ordered I was trying to read the menu while ordering and I guess I wasn't loud enough which is when Larry decided to give me attitude saying "you've been looking at the menu for 10 minutes! You should know what you want to order by now!". I was still on the fence on a few things so I just wanted to make a last minute decision so I started to speak up when I ordered and he continued to just give me attitude while speaking over me. That is when I just stopped ordering and said "You know what? We're done here" and we just walked away... After looking at some of these reviews and experiencing Larry for myself, its no wonder there was plenty of seating. Literally every restaurant around there was packed but Larry J's. After I walked away my Brother-in-law told me that Larry said he was "joking". Well after a long day and being hungry it sure didn't seem funny. In fact it seemed arrogant and degrading.... Some advice to Larry - Smile and treat people with respect. It will go a long way.As for now, I definitely cannot recommend this place, especially with SO many better options anywhere in Boston.
