Back Bay Guitar Lessons: what do users think?
Anton Spaans: Buddy has been my guitar teacher for quite a few years now. I received a guitar and a coupon for lessons at Back Bay Guitar as a Xmas present at work about 5 years ago..... and still keep my lessons going with Buddy.Buddy's strength is that he is excellent at tailoring your lessons to your needs and likings. Are you just leaning to play guitar for a side hobby, maybe not practice *every* day, he'll teach you songs, only a little 'theory'. If you want to really learn to play well, the lessons will be tailored to that.Even with my shoddy practice regimen (I could practice more), I've been getting better and better and, above all, I'm enjoying it a LOT.Right now, lessons are online (because of covid), over Skype. I sometimes do miss the personal/on-site lessons, but doing them at home is convenient 😁
Andrew L.: I've been learning with Buddy for a few years...it's been a lot of fun and very educational. He's both a great musician and a great teacher. Profoundly knowledgeable about guitar and about music theory. He also has a very patient and playful teaching style and often enhances lessons with very funny or interesting stories from music history or his own career. Highly recommended!
Christopher Schiraldi: I started working with Buddy Jones in the beginning of 2020 somewhere at the start of the global pandemic. Because I started post pandemic my very first lesson with Buddy was via Skype. After 6+ months of working with Buddy every Friday I still cannot express how happy I am with my results/progression and most importantly the quality of his teaching.Buddy is an excellent musician and an even better teacher. He is also the real deal as he paved his way earlier in his career obtaining a four year degree at the one and only Berklee College of Music.lastly, think of it this way. I have never had an in-person lesson with Buddy due to the global pandemic and I am a 100% satisfied student and I feel all of my expectations have been surpassed.5 stars for Buddy Jones and any of you out there if you are on the fence about starting lessons, do not hesitate you will not be disappointed.
Tim Ehrlich: I have been working with Buddy for about one year and can honestly say that he is one of the best teachers I have ever had in my life. His knowledge of the guitar and how to make music is extraordinary and his range in musical styles is simply absurd--there is nothing I have ever wanted to play or any question I had which he couldn't answer for me in a very satisfying way. He is also extremely laid back and makes the lesson a truly enjoyable and fun experience. I have a very busy work and family schedule and in my life have never kept a single consistent weekly appointment--until I started working with Buddy and then I never miss a lesson. He is just that good.
elsa hansen: I've taken lessons with Buddy for about 6 years. When I started, I knew absolutely nothing about playing guitar. Now I can play and sing some of my favorite songs (he actually got me doing that fairly quickly). I think more importantly, having the opportunity to work with him has given me a much deeper appreciation of music. I now love songs that I would have never listened to before. My experience with music is much richer. I'm sad to be giving up my lessons with Buddy, but I know that because of the time I've spent working with him, I have the ability to continue to play and enjoy music for the rest of my life. He is also just a really nice fellow and a lot of fun to work with.
ann bruck: I began working with Buddy in 2013, through the recommendation of another one of his students. From early childhood, I had trouble with hearing the proper sounds of language and music. As an adult, I wanted to learn an instrument and thought guitar would be great because so much can be learned just by feel. This was one of the big draws for me to working with Buddy. He teaches each of his students to their strength; ear, feel or sight. By the student choosing the song list, it is almost guaranteed a fun and successful session every time.Buddy has a true passion for music both as a player and a teacher. I would hands down name him and only him as a recommended teacher for anyone looking to pick up the guitar whether you are a beginner or have years of experience.
Nathan Canterbury: Buddy is a great teacher! He helped me grow comfortable with the instrument and made a point of working with me on music I was interested in. Over the course of 8 months I feel that my playing ability has greatly increased. When I began I was only familiar with a few chords but after a few months we were tackling some challenging charts. I learned a lot of material and some basic music theory from our lessons, and enjoyed the process. I would highly recommend Buddy to anyone looking to further their musical knowledge and ability.
Mallory: I am extremely grateful I chose Buddy as my guitar teacher. He was professional, prepared, and always open-minded. He challenged me and encouraged me. His experience is inspiring.
Michael Fuccione: Buddy is an exceptional teacher. I have had many guitar teachers over the course of my life, and Buddy is by far the best I have ever had. He actually plays with you, you sit down together and play music. You don't sit there and watch him play or listen to lectures the whole time. Buddy has multiple ways of explaining concepts until you understand, he doesn't just have one way of teaching, he is very flexible and can explain things in way you will understand or will keep trying different approaches until you do understand. Above all that he is a great guy who loves music and loves teaching music to people. He is passionate about teaching and seeing his students improve. When I look back on my skill set when I started and compare it to now, I can honestly say I am a much better guitar player and my understanding of music, how songs are constructed and ability to play are worlds away from where I started - and I have Buddy to thank for that.
Jason Landry: I learned more about playing blues and jazz guitar in a year and half of weekly lessons with Buddy than I did in the prior 30 years trying to learn on my own. Buddy is patient, knowledgable, and was flexible even when my work schedule got in the way. I’m so glad he was able to teach this old dog new tricks and licks!
Jessica Bond: Not knowing a single thing about playing, I started guitar lessons with Buddy on a guitar that my daughter had abandoned. I choose him not even sure how to pick a guitar teacher, and he has proven a great one. Most important, probably, the lessons are shaped around what you want to learn and play ("If you love the song, you'll be much more likely to practice," is his philosophy) and he teaches you how to do it--chords, strum patterns, finger picking, etc. He's patient, warm, and generous, and he mixes well challenge and fun. If you're looking for a guitar teacher, I highly recommend Buddy.
Aaron Neimer: Buddy is great! Whatever you may want to learn or improve on, Buddy can make it happen. He's patient, professional, very welcoming, and incredibly knowledgeable. He has a genuine love of the instrument and his interest in making you a better player as well as musician. He has some pretty great stories too....
Dave Burke: If you're like me, someone who has always wanted to learn to play guitar but wasn't sure where to start, I strongly urge you to give Buddy a call and set up a lesson. I went from not being able to play a single chord to playing full songs in no time. Buddy made a point to teach me songs that I wanted to play and taught me the right techniques to not only play songs but play them the right way (like timing, strumming techniques, reading the music he'd write out for me, etc.) Once I was comfortable with the basics, Buddy helped me incorporate more advanced techniques and guitar solos. I honestly can't believe how far I've come.I just wish I had started lessons with Buddy sooner. I waited years while my guitar collected dust because I was frustrated trying to learn. Now that I'm playing the songs I want to play, I practice all the time.
Jp: I took lessons with Buddy for nearly four years, and it was a great experience.Buddy can play and teach any style of music: jazz (from bossa nova to gypsy jazz to bebop), rock, pop, flamenco, even metal. He has an encycopledic knowledge of the specific styles of any player. What I loved about him was that he let you determine how you wanted to learn. If you need exercises to learn a skill, say, soloing, he'll come up with some for you to practise. If what you need is practice playing a tune, you'll just play tunes together the whole lesson.Generally, I liked learning guitar by learning tunes; I wouldn't want to learn from a book or a method. I would come in with a tune I wanted to play, and Buddy would come up with an arrangement of it by ear no matter what style or instrument it was played on. From then we'd work through playing it together until I had it down. Then we would work on things like chord-melodies and soloing over the form.I went in with a basic knowledge of chords on the guitar. Within a month I knew the chord forms to accompany jazz. Soon after, I had grasped scales, modes, chord arpeggios. Buddy was helping me come up with my own chord melodies.I highly recommend him for players of any level: I started as a beginner, and improved a lot. Buddy had no trouble giving me more to work with as I got better.
John Jarvis: I took lessons with Buddy for a year and half and had a great experience. I had no guitar skill going in, and Buddy was incredibly patient in helping me better understand the instrument and become a better player. Buddy's also a great guy, and it was obvious that he cares about the development of his students as musicians.
Mark Ferrara: I began my guitar studies by teaching myself from the internet. While the information available to us from the web is phenomenal, it isn't enough, and I quickly hit a "wall." As a result, I embarked on what ended up being a very long quest to find the right guitar teacher to help me progress. At the end of that search was Buddy Jones. Buddy's relaxed manner, teaching style, and immense musical knowledge matched what I was looking for exactly. I have been taking lessons from Buddy for over two years now, and I have improved more in that time than I would have thought possible, certainly more than I would have done so on my own. Buddy's playing is amazing, his musical ability formidable, and his teaching his top notch. If you are like me and looking to push yourself to the next level of guitar playing, you can't go wrong with Buddy Jones.
Laura P: It was an absolute pleasure taking lessons with Buddy at Back Bay Guitar. When I decided I wanted to learn how to play, I didn’t even own a guitar. I found Buddy online and e-mailed him about lessons. He signed me up for Monday sessions and even helped me with advice on purchasing a good, beginner guitar. Buddy was professional, kind and beyond patient. To this day it amazes me how a guitarist of his caliber can take the time to teach someone how to strum their first chord and struggle through the basics.I continued with my lessons every Monday night for almost 4 years. Buddy taught me more chords that I can even count and helped me to understand the basics of music theory. The great thing about him is, you get to choose the way you want to learn. Buddy is very adaptable to multiple styles and encourages you to choose music that you enjoy. You can be as good as you want to be, you just have to put in the time and effort. The only reason I discontinued my lessons with Buddy is because I relocated to Chicago for work. Otherwise, I would be there every Monday torturing him with my relentless love for country music. After all of the time we spent together I not only consider Buddy an excellent teacher, but he is also a great friend.
Mike s: I played guitar while in high school and then didn't pick it up again until 24 years later, and i landed at buddy's, for my first lessons in many years. Over the past 2 years i have learned volumes, and had a blast doing it. He has a great low key style of teaching, and worked with me at the pace that i was comfortable working at. I feel incredibly lucky that my re-introduction to guitar playing was with buddy, it's been a rockin' experience. So if you're looking to learn from a great musician and learn in a great environment, look no further. email buddy today!cheers
Ryan Frisch: Buddy is an extremely talented musician and even more patient and respectful teacher. His grasp of music theory and styles is surpassed by none but what is even more impressive was his ability to adapt to my style of learning (and taste) to help me really understand the guitar. Whether you just want to learn new songs or you want to understand the theory behind it, Buddy is your guy. He will go into as much or as little detail as you want each week. I started with Buddy with only a few chords in my pocket and after 11 months I left with a framework in place that allow me to listen to a song and learn how to play it within minutes (without cheating and and looking up the chords online). It is something I could have only dreamed of 12 months ago and Buddy has helped make that a reality. Buddy is extremely passionate about music and very committed to helping anyone learn and share in his passion and I would recommend him for beginner and advanced students alike. HE IS THAT GOOD!
Keith Vandal: What do you look for in an instructor? Personally, I needed someone who was going to be patient with the fact that I had been teaching myself (probably the wrong way) for several years prior to seeking lessons. Buddy was my first experience with professional guitar help and I have to say I have been spoiled. He worked with me over the first couple of lessons to get a feel for my style and what sort of music I was trying to play. He then listed some concepts we were going to work on to improve my knowledge of the fretboard and how to use different systems to work out solos or particular charts. I've got to hand it to him, he is one of the most patient people I have ever met. After coming from a long day at the office; I would arrive stressed out and unfocused on playing. When this would happen, he would recognize my short temper and talk through a concept for a few moments which allowed me to "get into the zone" and think about guitar. I came to Buddy as a beginner looking to find my way onto the stage and play out with some friends of mine that gig regularly - being a performance musician as well as a teacher, Buddy was able to help me practice effectively and mentally prep myself for being in front of a crowd with my instrument. The only reason why I had to stop lessons was due to a move to another city, otherwise I'd still be there! I highly recommend Buddy for anyone in a position similar to mine looking to get to the next level with their guitar. He uses an organized method that is easy to understand, and is patient enough to work with you when something isn't clear - no matter how "dumb" you may think your confusion is.

Page Music Lessons: what do users think?
MengDe Zhu: I called the number below and heard a voice message saying it is closed during holiday, reopening at Jan 3rd. But it is already Jan 7th. What's wrong?
Ngan Tran: I have been learning piano at Page Music Lessons for about 8 months now. My instructor is Sarah Yang, she is an amazing teacher who is very patient and helpful toward my learning process. The staff there are also very nice and friendly. I really enjoy the lessons and have a great time every time I come to the studio. I would definitely recommend Page Music Lessons to any of my friends who is interested in learning a new instrument.
Sanford McMurtry: I started taking piano lessons a few weeks ago without any previous experience other than having learned to play guitar over the past 15 years. Within a couple of weeks, Thomasina has helped me understand how to read music notation and play several songs. I am thrilled with the progress and recently upgraded my membership to the Full Membership plan and can't wait to take advantage of the benefits that are available with the membership.
Rebecca Ercolani: I have been taking piano lessons at the studio for just over a year now. As an adult, I had no prior experience to playing a musical instrument and because of this, was hesitant to begin knowing the learning curve I would be facing. My instructor, Pierre, has been extremely helpful and patient in this process, beginning my journey with the basics and gradually building up my skill set as I have been ready. He does an excellent job of teaching musical theory, which I found not only interesting, but beneficial as I learn more about different pieces and genres. The office staff is very kind and flexible, making it easy to reschedule or cancel lessons as needed. If you are looking to learn a new musical skill or brush up on one you already have, I would certainly recommend Page Music Lessons.
Ronan Barrett: I have been taking lessons with Page Music for approximately 3 years. Throughout that time I have enjoyed the experience of learning to play guitar. Matt has done a great job of challenging me to develop my skills at a pace I am comfortable with. SInce the pandemic began, lessons shifted to being virtual and we have hardly missed a beat. Via Zoom, Matt continued to work together. In fact, being able to play with my own amp. has contributed to my progress. I would absolutely recommend Page Music to any adult interested in learning to play. Virtual teaching did not affect the standard of instruction in any way.
Kurt Wagner: I'm an adult who has taken electric guitar lessons at Page Music Lessons for several years. The instructors are highly skilled, supportive, and extremely easy to work with. I also really enjoy the monthly jam nights, which gives students a chance to play together in a low pressure, fun, environment; but one which can be as challenging as you want to make it. The pandemic has obviously changed the way they operate, but the instructors have adapted and their personal Zoom lessons are virtually as good as live lessons, and very convenient! If you're an adult who has been thinking about starting or resuming playing music, this is a great time to do it, and I would highly recommend Page for lessons.
Deven Smith-Clarke: Great group of people. Instructors are good, and the song nights are great to play with other musicians.
Qi Liao: I have been taking piano lessons at Page Music for over a year. When I came here, I can hardly read the notes. After one year of commitment, I have finished one book and was able to perform my favorite Bach. Thank you Jasmine and Page Music. You are the best.
Niall Corrigan: My daughter has been taking violin lessons at Page Music for about 18 months now. The experience has been very positive. Her teacher, Taylor, has been wonderful - patient and encouraging. She takes an approach that might be described as Suzuki light, and will often spend some time on musical theory or history during the lessons. Daughter genuinely looks forward to her weekly lesson. The facility is also great. Conveniently located on Newbury St right by a the Hynes T-stop. They have a simple billing system that works well. The staff are extremely accomodating and responsive. They host regular recitals offsite that offer a non-threatening opportunity for students to play in front of a group. Finally, one of the managers/instructors (Rick) occasionally brings his dog to the studio - and she's fantastic!
Phyllis Wilker: I started violin lessons at Page about five months ago and I have really enjoyed them. I had studied violin when I was younger, but I hadn't taken lessons since high school, so I was more than a little apprehensive. My teacher, Taylor, has been great for me. She points out techniques that I need to improve, but she is also kind and encouraging. She has expertise in various types of violin playing - classical, jazz and bluegrass and she has been open to teaching me different types of music, as well as some music theory.
Michael Davin: As a 60 year old learning to play an instrument (guitar) for the first time, I'm thrilled I chose Page Music. My overall experience has been educational, relaxing and exciting. Matt is an amazing teacher! His patience and encouragement for a newbie like me has been inspirational. I look forward to continuing my lessons as I chase my goal of becoming a proficient, recreational guitarist. Thank you Page Music!!
John Cragin: Outstanding instruction that combines knowledge, patience, flexibility and humor. I might be one of the slowest students ever but I come away from each lesson knowing more and inspired to keep learning.
Juan Kim: Hey! I am just curious how much it is for a monthly lesson?
Stephanie Walther: I have had a significant improvement in my voice in the year that I have been taking lessons. I also participate in the jam nights, song nights, and recitals that Page offers. They give me a chance to work on stage fright, stage presence, working with an ensemble, and working with songs that stretch my comfort zone. My instructor and the jam/song night leaders have been incredibly supportive and positive as I learn to use my voice. It's been a great experience.
Kevin: I've been taking lessons with Aaron and Emily for a while now and have been extremely happy with the progress. They're friendly and helpful in providing a customized plan for improving, as well as extremely knowledgeable about theory, which is more than I had expected from lessons. Overall, the environment here is great, generally fun and relaxed, which makes it helpful for learning.
Eric Lavalliere: I've been taking Lessons at Page for Just over 6 months, my experience has been great! The first few months I stuck with one on one lessons to learn the basics. Recently I also got involved with song and jam nights. This has really brought everything together. The great private instruction combined with low pressure group classes is awesome.
Cara Donovan: My son and I have taken drum lessons with Dan at Page Music for almost 8 months. There are varied opportunities to play with others/before an audience. Dan is a patient and animated teacher and we look forward to our weekly lessons. I would highly recommend Page Music for first time musicians. They are flexible with proper notice to change if you need to. Instructors are knowledgeable and talented.
Ronald Lohse: I returned to playing piano after several years away. The studio and the instruction here is first rate. Plenty of opportunities to perform if that's your thing. Also, they have been very flexible whenever I have needed to reschedule. Definitely recommend them to anyone looking to start or continue their music education.
Kathleen C. Stone: I returned to playing piano as an adult and have studied with several teachers, but the most outstanding is Jasmine at Page Music. She is a terrific musician, trained in classical as well as jazz, and a great teacher as well. She pitches her lessons to my level, and combines playing with a little theory, and she never minds having to repeat or re-explain a point. I am delighted to be her student.
Julio Butter: I've been taking voice lessons from Page Music for approximately 6 months now and have been learning a lot! I am really happy for the service and quality of the lessons, and my voice improvement has exceeded my expectations. I definitely recommend music school for any musician out there.
Sarah Fortune: Over the past six years, both my son and daughter have taken lessons at Page in drums and voice/bass respectively. We have been consistently impressed because their teachers have uniformly made learning to play instruments joyful. Not that the teachers don't have high standards and ask the kids to practice a lot----but the teachers allow the kids to explore their own musical interests through their respective instruments. This experience has contrasted with the kids' years in other, (more formal?) music schools where the curriculum marched through a series of learning to play books that were soul killingly boring. Also love the flexibility in scheduling.

Guitar Lessons In Boston with Brant Grieshaber: what do users think?
Leslie Shields: Love love love Brant. He's the best teacher ever.
Cezar Augusto da Rosa: Brant is an amazing teacher. I also agree with all the other reviews about his impressive expertise and knowledge. Even without having enough time to practice, Brant found a way to motivate me and to make me improve my skills and theory knowledge. I definitely recommend his services.
Brian Penti: Brant is a wonderful teacher. Very patient, and very engaging. Initially took classes so I can play something for my wife on my wedding day, and have continued to take classes two years later..
Eric Perakslis: Have worked with Brant for more than a year now. I agree with all the other reviews about his expertise and knowledge. They are impressive. I wanted to mention his patience and understanding. I am a busy professional and a hobbyist musician. Brant is always supportive and always positive. He pushes me along gently and works with my schedule. I could not be more satisfied.
Michael Greenberg: I think Brant has the ideal temperament for an instructor. He is wiling to go where you want to go, and does not insist you follow his path. His knowledge of music theory is exhaustive. If one way of playing does not work he tries another approach. I would recommend his services without reservation.
John Copeland: I have been taking lessons for over 5 years and have been very pleased with Brant's instruction. Previously I had known the basics of playing guitar, but did not know any music theory. Through Brant's teachings, I have been able to learn a great deal about music and refine my technical approach to the guitar. I can honestly say that 5 years later I am now lightyears beyond where I was when I started (and I had already been playing for 14 years at that point). I am a better overall performer now and I am able to approach playing difficult pieces in a new light. I still find music to be very challenging, but Brant's patient approach has helped me stick with it until I am able to master the material I want to cover.
Scott Ross: I started taking lessons as an outlet, and to broaden my inner self. Mr. Grieshaber is a master at his craft, a master guitarist and an excellent instructor. Not only have I learned how to play a guitar, Brant has introduced me to a broader relationship to and with music.

G4 Guitar School: what do users think?
Irina Kareva: A wonderful guitar school, and a special shoutout to Chris, who was able to tailor our lessons to exactly what I was looking for despite differences in preferred musical styles (and I know this holds for other students as well). I learned and am learning so much from him over our lessons, and couldn't recommend him more highly even if I tried!
Marco Vasconcellos: Had the chance to study with instructor Chris Ramusiewicz and it was simply awesome! Had a lot of fun with the lessons and also had the chance to learn a lot.I definitely recommend taking guitar courses at G4. Great school!!!
Lisa Andrews: I took lessons with Chris at G4 for almost 4 years. He's a great teacher! As an adult learner starting basically from square one, I appreciated the attention to technique and that we focused on the essentials of guitar and music theory before jumping into songs. It was fun at the same time – Chris is friendly and enthusiastic and I enjoyed learning with the other students in the small classes. I have a really solid foundation to keep going with guitar playing now and would recommend G4 to anyone interested in learning.
Natalie Wadia: Learning guitar as an adult wasn't easy, but G4 gave me the tools and structure I needed to take it step by step. I spent several years taking lessons from Shane and Chris. Both are fantastic!Majority of the time I worked with Chris. His passion for music and teaching comes through at each lesson. He break things down, and teachs you more than just how to play a song. You ultimately learn the language and patterns of music, which empowers you to take what you learn in whatever direction you want to go.
Arielle Albert: Chris R. is an excellent guitar instructor. He has a true passion for what he's teaching, and always fields questions (no matter how repetitive!). I've definitely learned a ton about guitar theory in the short five months I've been taking lessons - can't wait to learn more!
Aaron Manzali: I've been taking guitar lessons with Chris for just over two years, and he's been an incredible teacher. He's motivated me to keep practicing and improving my skills significantly, even through the challenges of the pandemic and switching to zoom lessons. He's friendly, kind, and down to earth, and he is so knowledgeable and willing to try out so many different styles of music. He's always down to chat about music stuff beyond our lessons, and it's been awesome getting to know him.
Abe Mathew: I just finished my five individual lessons, the first three with Andrew and the last two with Shane. It's been a wonderful experience. As someone who knew nothing about guitar whatsoever, it was quite inspiring to see the amount of progress that was made possible in five weeks, simply through their teaching and encouragement. I would highly recommend the positive environment and proficient teachers of G4 to all who are interested in learning to play guitar!
Shawn McCall: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,Value
PAPABUTTER 21: Positive:Professionalism,ValueChris is a great teacher very professional and very helpful
Barbra M. Blair: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,QualityMy son is taking online lessons. He is 15 with no previous guitar experience although has played a wind instrument. He loves learning from Andrew who he finds patient, knowledgeable and extremely clear and helpful in his instruction.
Jennifer Svendsen: Our daughter loves taking lessons with Chris! She is learning so much. G4 has a great kids program for learning guitar.
Zoe Yun: not bad so far, I like it.
George Eisenberg: Love the personal well organized system. Progress every week in a pleasant atmosphere with encouragement to keep going
Mohamed Abdelrahim: I just got through the first batch of lessons and am excited to continue with this school. I had my lessons with Shane and he really helped me with a lot of the basics, great teacher. He gave me tips and provided that background information that helps you understand why things are done a certain way rather than just telling you how its done. I would absolutely recommend this school for anyone wanting to learn the guitar!
Mark Josephs: Shane and G4 Guitar School are simply outstanding. Shane has been teaching my 9-year-old son since early last year, and my son thinks Shane is great. My son a few months ago went from not practicing at all to playing on his own, and teaching himself extra songs, often. His progress recently culminated in playing in front of a crowd at the coffee place across from G4, and he did great. I have Shane to thank for that. If you are looking for guitar instruction for your child, or even yourself, look no further than G4 Guitar School!
Cathy Trio: Shane has the ability to teach all experience levels with a consistent positive approach. Very good at customizing instruction for individuals while following the central pattern of the G4 Guitar method.
Helen Zhao: Shane is awesome and super swag. As long as you do the work you will learn really quickly. Shane is a very clear and good teacher. I've taken piano lessons in the past that were confusing and boring, but I do not feel the same confusion here, quite the opposite. The lessons have music theory which is very nice for actually learning guitar, soloing and transcribing and such. Shoutout Chad.
Jen Potter: My 17 year old son has been taking guitar lessons with G4 for one year, and I am thrilled with the progress he's made. He started with Shane Allessio and is now in a class with Chris Ramusiewicz. From very early on, he could play real songs which kept him motivated and excited to practice. Highly recommend Shane, Chris and the G4 method.
Srinivas Muthyala: Shane is an awesome instructor, he makes guitar learning an amazing experience rather than a routine class. He pays close attention to what we do every step of the way, he sends follow up emails and also a structural way of practicing to make it easier to learn.
M Castillo-Rama: Shane is amazing and the G4 method really helps you make progress. I´ve been trying to learn guitar (and quitting) for years,. This method is really practical and in just 5 weeks you can see progress, and get some skills under your belt.
Grace: Excellent instructor! Shane genuinely cares for his students' experience learning the guitar and is extremely flexible with his hours to accommodate his students' schedules. The group lessons are extremely fun as we get to play popular songs and can even request ones we want to learn.

Sam Davis Guitar Lesson: what do users think?
Mike Krause Music: Ahhhhhhh....Aaaaaaaaahhhhhhh........
Gloria Calib: Professional staff
victoria torres: Sam Davis has been a gift to my life. I am a vocalist and under Sam's tutelage, in just 1 year and 8 months I have started to gig professionally in Miami, FL as a guitar-playing singer. He is not only an incredible guitarist and music teacher, but he is a joy to be around. Sam has the ability to create a custom curriculum for any student and work with them on exactly what they need to learn to reach their musical goals. He is a master music theorist as well as jazz guitarist who is fully schooled in the history of guitar and popular styles that emerged throughout its popularity in the 20th century. You want to play funk? SAM DAVIS is your guy. You want to play rock n roll? SAM DAVIS. Pop? Sam DAVIS! blues? go to Sam Davis?! Jazz standards? soloing? Understanding the fret board? jazz theory, music history, LIFE MENTORISHIP? Sam Davis. There is no better music teacher out there for any student of any age that wants to learn to play an instrument and do so joyfully. I can not emphasize enough how methodical his teaching is either. He has teaching materials he has accumulated and written up over the past 30+ years for any concept thinkable. Learning with Sam Davis is completely different from taking lessons with a novice teacher who is a skilled instrumentalist. Sam is not only an expert musician, but he is truly an expert teacher and pedagogue. You will be delighted by the new ways he encourages you to think about your instrument. I highly recommend Sam Davis to anyone who wants to learn guitar or music.
Dan Pugatch: . Two states away, how would I ever take lessons from Sam again? There is no replacement for him. Sure there’s other guitar teachers, many qualified ones but they aren’t Sam. They aren’t your mentor/coach/best friend all in one. Like the Highlander, there can be only one Sam! After a SEVEN YEAR dry spell of not playing guitar that girl I impressed, remember her? She and Sam worked it out so I can take lessons from him over Zoom skipping the 5 hour round trip drive. As someone who had taken in person lessons for years the virtual lessons are just as great. I even got my old day and time slot back ;-
Alison Gant: Sam is a great guitar teacher! He is funny, patient, so generous with his time and knowledge, and I guess the proof is in the pudding: I'm playing more than I ever have before. I had to get used to how fast he talks--I get a little deer in the headlights with theory, and I had to learn how to read tabs, but he makes it all make sense. He gives you LOTS of material to practice, but never with any feeling of drudgery. It's like you're admitted to the Sam Music-verse: you look at music from every angle and Sam makes you feel both awe at how cool it is, and like it's completely accessible to you no matter how beginner you are. No matter how many times I say, "wait, I don't get it," he's always patient, goofy and comes up with some oddball reference to make you laugh and see the problem in a new, enlightening way.
Cavan Bligh: Been going to Sam for about 6 years now. Guy knows his way around the guitar and can teach a boatload of theory to boot. I am definitely a better guitar player AND musician in general because of his classes. Highly recommended.
Leo Rusinov: Without a doubt, Sam Davis is the best guitar teacher out there! I have been playing for 15+ years, and still learn something new every lesson. He knows everything there is to know about music – I can bring in any song and he’ll help me dissect it and explain what’s happening. He’ll show you why the guitar player is doing what he/she is doing, and why it makes sense in that musical context. He’s helped me with theory, style, technique, and everything in between. Sam is very easy to communicate with, flexible with scheduling, and clearly loves what he does. And, there is always parking by his house. Thank you, Sam!
Tim Hurley: Intelligent, patient, entertaining, and eccentric. Would highly recommend.
Anirudh Natarajan: Having played for several years, I started taking lessons with Sam expecting to learn a few more licks and using classes as a commitment device to keep playing guitar. But after taking classes for the last three years in Sam's bovine themed apartment, I realized I had, to use a Rumsfeld-ism, many unknown unknowns.Sam can teach you licks and songs and stop there, if that's what you want. But you would be missing out. Where he has really changed my playing and broadened my horizons is by introducing me to music theory in a way that I can understand and appreciate the intricacies in songs that I would not have noticed before. He takes every concept and looks at it from a thousand different angles till you see the connections. And then he shows you how to apply it in your playing. The best thing I can say about Sam is that I wouldn't have learnt the things I know now without his help. And I continue going back because I know he has a lot more to show me.Anything else you should know about Sam, you say? Did I mention he has a life-size animatronic cow in his house? No, seriously. He does. Even if you don't want to play guitar, take a class to go check this out. You'll leave amused, bewildered and a little terrified.
Barbara Bai: I have been Sam's student for a little more than half a year now. He has a super interesting life story, a very cool apartment, and mad guitar skillz. Let me preface this review by saying that before I started taking lessons with Sam, I did not know anything about guitars or how to play one. And now I can play the Beatles. Pretty awesome. He never makes you feel bad and doesn't force you to do anything. There is no "right way" to play guitar either. He definitely tailors lessons to your individual needs. Or if you never practice and don't really have a direction (like me), he still gives you things to work on and doesn't view you less than his more advanced students.VERY FLEXIBLE with scheduling. I never had a problem with him cancelling on me. In terms of starting lessons on time, it depends if the student before you showed up on time. Usually, I start a lesson 0-10 minutes past what we had scheduled it for.He teaches you so much more than how to play chords or a certain song. He will go over music theory and other tips and tricks about playing guitar. Sam's knowledge of guitar is infinite. Literally. Infinite. He gave me advice on what to look for when buying a guitar, adjusted and tuned my guitar (for free) when I first got it, and taught me how to do those things on my own. If you don't have a guitar, he has a roomful of all sorts of guitars that you can borrow to play.He is located in Inman Square - between Harvard and Central. It is a convenient walk from the Red Line, and there is no lack of street parking if you have a car or a bike. Also, youtube "Sam Antics - Darla the Cow." Cool condo, amiright?!I am a singer, and my vocal lessons are double what he charges. You can also get free lessons if you prepay in advance. He accepts cash, check, or credit card.I can not recommend Sam enough! If you are on the fence about taking lessons, I say go for it!!!
Sarah Quinn: Sam is the greatest. He's not only a phenomenal guitarist but also a phenomenal human being. He an expert on both theory and mainstream, and can play a wide variety of styles and genres. It's uncommon that someone so skilled can also teach so well.
August Emerson: Sam Davis is one of the most skilled and knowledgeable guitarists out there. I've been taking lessons from him for close to twelve years now, and there is not a single question I had that he wasn't able to help me find the answer to. not only is he an astounding musician and an incredible teacher, he's just a really fun guy to be around, from the practically psychadelic experience of meeting his beloved life-size fiberglass cow Darla, to his fantastic sense of humor and of course, he's a really smart dude. I can certainly say that taking lessons with Sam has changed my life for the better. if you ever get the chance to meet the guy, you're in for one hell of a ride.
Brittany Leaning: I’ve been taking guitar lessons with Sam for over a year now and I can honestly say it’s still my favorite hour of every week. I came into my first lesson as a true beginner with no music or guitar experience (including education about music theory) so Sam has definitely had his work cut out for him with me. Sam is great because no matter what mood you’re in (or how prepared/unprepared you are for the lesson), he will work with you and be on your team. I’m always amazed by Sam’s patience. For example, I will ask him a question about something that I should definitely know — something he has taught me in multiple lessons — and he won’t get mad or annoyed when I can’t remember the answer. Instead, he’ll calmly help me see that I already know the answer … I just have to think about it in a different way. Our lessons are always fun and I often leave with my cheeks hurting from laughing too much. Sam has been playing and teaching guitar for most of his life and he really knows his stuff. I highly recommend Sam Davis for anyone looking to take guitar lessons in the Cambridge, MA area.
Seth Morabito: Went and saw Sam for a couple months. Fantastic teacher and highly recommend him.
