Burma Design Antique Furniture Repair, Restoration and Conservation: what do users think?
Dave Miller: Matt did an amazing job restoring my antique chess table that was made by a friend of my grandparents. I literally never thought it could look this good! It’s clear that he loves what he does and cares about quality.
Melissa Geraghty: I contacted Burma about a broken piano bench. Matt was very clear what process he’d take to repair the damage. He also showed me that the bench needed to be more stabilized, after all it’s about 60 yrs old, and was becoming a little loose. Now the bench looks brand new! It looks very pretty and is more stable than before. The price was very reasonable.
Barnett Walker: I am so impressed with quality of work, attention to detail and level of professionalism displayed by Matt at Burma Design. The small Victorian side table he stabilized and brought back to her former beauty is stunning. This the skill of a true craftsman.
Leah Sinrich: I highly recommend Matt Burstein, at Burma Design, for any family heirlooms that need refinishing and repair, or restoration. I have used him on three separate occasions for items that date from 1872 to 1880. He has refinished an ebony and gold handled "walking stick", a large highly decorative walnut arm chair, and a very large, spinet design, Rosewood desk. His work is superb, and he really is extremely careful about the customers' precious family items. He rates a five star review. Sincerely, Phil Sinrich
Justin Willig: I have nothing but glowing reviews for Burma Design Antique Restoration, Conservation and Fine Furniture Repair. I had several antique items that were badly damaged in an interstate move, some of which have very ornate designs. Matt worked diligently, and in a matter of a week, fixed everything like it was brand new. You can tell he is passionate about the quality of his work- it shows in every detail. Highly recommend.
Michael Molloy: I inherited a beautiful antique hand carved table that was in need of restoration. The stain had been removed and the legs weren’t very stable. It was a very intricate piece and I searched all over the internet trying to find the perfect place to bring it back to life. The table came out Perfect in every way, Matt’s attention to detail is second to none. If you have a special piece don’t hesitate to take it to Burma design, you won’t be disappointed!
Michelle Ocana: Great craftsmanship! BurmaDesign has restored some of our very delicate pieces with an artist's eye. Highly recommend!

Restorers Without Borders: what do users think?
Scott Winship: Exceptional work, with equal customer service
Vanessa Cortesi: Not only is the work they do amazing in its quality. The attention to detail is great. All the staff is professional, friendly, and helpful.Cheers to them and my table!
Chip Pollard: Very easy to deal with. Excellent work, completed in the time-frame estimated.
Anita Ruthling Klaussen: I had an historic chest that suffered a deep burn. Despair? NO! Thankfully I discovered RESTORERS WITHOUT BORDERS, the most competent, experienced and caring craftsmen imaginable. They restored the chest to mint condition in less time than I had thought possible. An amazing firm with whom to do business. I wholeheartedly recommmend them for any and all funiture repair work. ARK
Elvira Lang: Diligent beautiful work with superb craftsmanship and attention to detail. I had previously work done with Restorers and was always very pleased.
Allan Green: We have a nineteenth century wood carved settee which needed recaning. Restorers without Borders has done a masterful job at repairing and restoring the furnishing, so that the marvelous wood carvings are all well preserved and presented. This is a service that cares about antiques and works well with its customers.
Ellen Nadler: This is perhaps the 5th or 6th time over the past several years that I’ve employed the furniture restoration services of Restorers Without Borders for doing repairs on my home furnishings. And, as is always the case, they ALWAYS impress and NEVER disappoint.Just recently, I requested their assistance to strip and refinish a mid century credenza that has a whole lot of sentimental value and was passed on to me by my parents’. The credenza had surface scratches, stains from plant water drips, and veneer cracking issues. The Restorers Without Borders team did an amazing job at repairing and refinishing the entirety of the credenza. The completed results, are remarkably beautiful, and I couldn’t be more delighted with their workmanship quality. I will certainly use their services again, if a future need ever arises. The whole Restorers group merits an A+++ recommendation for being service and results-oriented. A true and continuing delight to do business with them from start to finish.
Kurt: I’m having to jump through an INCREDIBLE number of hoops just to get a quote from these guys. If you’re in a hurry, go elsewhere. If you want face-to-face personal service, go elsewhere. If, and it is a big if, I finally succeeded in getting a quote from them I may update this review.
Sean Hurley: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,Responsiveness,ValueA gem of a business. Extraordinary restoration done on a family heirloom finished on time and under budget. Highly recommend!
Nicki Hoffman: Jeff, Afonso and the team did an absolutely fantastic job! I brought in two "well loved" heirloom chairs that needed to basically be rebuilt as well as reupholstered. Getting a quote was easy, and they walked me through all of the work that would need to be done and why. The chairs came back looking brand new!Excellent work and excellent service. I'd recommend Restorers without Borders to anyone looking to save a cherished piece so that they can enjoy it again for decades to come!
Leanne Scott: I cannot say enough good things about this business. They do amazing work and are friendly and responsive. They stand behind their work as well, as obviously care about furniture, their customer, and employees.
John L: Five stars are not really sufficient!Trying to be as brief as possible: We had a serious house fire last May. No one was physically hurt, and for that, we are grateful. We truly wanted to try to salvage our dining room table and a two-part media cabinet, which were among the more valuable items in the house. The table and chairs (six) held incredible memories of family get-togethers, Christmas dinners, and countless other great times.Jeff and Alfonso came to the house in September. The wood of the table had split from the water damage; some of the chairs were broken, cracked, and charred. The media cabinet was charred, rusted and all pieces were so sad-looking!They looked at all the woodwork, then at each other, and said, "We can do this."They neatly and carefully carted away these parts of our family!A couple of weeks ago, Restorers called us to say the work was completed. My wife and I were incredulous (and in tears) at seeing the pieces in the shop. The work involved using two of the leaves of the table to re-create parts of the table top itself (the pieces that had split); they then created two new leaves, with the necessary pegs to fit them together. They had to fashion replacement rungs for the backs of some of the chairs, and the work is perfect. We cannot determine which rungs are original and which are replacements. The color, the grain, the finish, all are perfect! The pieces were delivered in two trips to our temporary home, covered in padding and plastic, and with some much attention and care.We are beyond grateful to Jeff, Alfonso, Dan, Juan, Roberto, and everyone who worked on our tasks. We recommend Restorers Without Borders Without Limits!
Julia Zhogina: I had a great experience with Afonso. A great guy, amazing talent for what he does, and I couldn't be happier with the end product. He and his team picked up a china cabinet with a broken leg from my condo in Brookline and delivered the repaired cabinet back in two days. Accurate price quote.

Anthony's Furniture Company, Inc.: what do users think?
shardul pathak: I would give him 10 stars. He is just super talented . My ottoman had one broken leg because I bought it from wayfair (don’t ever buy from wayfair, cheap quality) . I asked him to work on one but he made the other three strong because they would have cracked eventually.
Kerrie Flynn: Been here many, many times. Wouldn't go anywhere else! Fab work.
Clyde Shorey: They did an excellent job refinishing a black lacquered chair of ours. Stripped it down and refinished for a fair price. My only issue was they seemed to forget about it for several weeks until I called to remind them. I was not in a hurry, so this was no issue. I expect to go back.
Janice Sophis: I sent an email, with photo, of the problem leg in the pedestal base of our large table, and Bob called back to discuss and give an estimate of the repair cost. We brought the pedestal in to the shop and cost of the repair immediately went up, even though I had sent a photo and we had discussed the piece in detail. When we came back to pick up the base, the top of the pedestal had been severely marred, scratched and gouged. It looked like tools had been thrown on it while it was in the shop. What kind of furniture repair shop treats a customer's piece so carelessly? The repair to the base was sloppily done, with the underlying metal support strips bent and uneven. Hopefully the repair holds.
Jane B: He repaired a chair leg — a good job at a good price!
Wayne Henry: I brought a piece that was almost destroyed by a dip stripper. Anthony's Furniture made it beautiful again.
??: We have had several 100+ year old chairs repaired after they had broken. Anthony's did a great job, on some difficult repairs. I am looking to take some more chairs to them to "tighten up the joints" before they break.
Jill Stewart: Anthony's took care of a chair of mine and brought a chair from the 1800's back to life. Excellent EXCELLENT EXCELLENT
easy 2: TL;DR (Too Long; Didn't Read): excellent work, and the before and after photos speak for themselves. Here is the full review: Late 1700s to early 1800s family heirloom trunk that has been in the family since it was created. Trunk traveled around Europe and eventually left Germany in 1999 and has been through several more Army moves since 2007. Never been restored, so figured before our next adventure (upcoming move) it was time. Have driven by Anthony's Furniture Repair in Waltham hundreds of times. Never paid much attention and really only noticed the small sign on the exterior of the building while I was stuck in traffic recently right next to the shop. Turned around, went in and met Mr. Robert (Bob) Oteri. Exceptionally pleasant gentleman to speak with, showed him some photos online of a similar item to determine if they could help, and brought the trunk next day for free assessment. After discussing the planned level of restoration (wanted to protect wood, repair damage, and keep overall level of patina), we agreed on approximately one-month turnaround time (no rush needed on my end). Bob asked how I wanted the trunk restored, while also recommending not to complete a 100% restoration. Doing so would lose the unique, aged look and I wholeheartedly agree. I deferred to Bob's expertise on planned work, while simultaneously providing input on what I wanted done. One wooden plank was broken on bottom and one piece was missing. Lid had small piece missing and inside of lid had piece broken. Metal band on bottom that is part of structural support with hand-forged nails was broken, missing a piece, and starting to rust. The wood was very dry and general appearance was essentially as if trunk would fall apart if picked up and moved a few more times. Key was lost at least 100 years ago, and crafting a replacement was not a top priority at this time. This piece will be lightly used, maybe storing blankets for the living room sofa on cold nights. The quality of work and attention to detail that went into this restoration is readily apparent. I mentioned the photos above, but they don't begin to do justice to how great the trunk looks. A custom varnish was used to restore luster and "refresh" the trunk's look. Difficult to describe, but the appearance is as if traveling back in time about 300 years and this is what we picture the trunk may have looked like - used, but in good shape. The broken pieces I supplied were reintegrated into the trunk, and the stock they used to replace missing pieces blends perfectly. Bob went the "extra mile" and enlisted the help of a local blacksmith to craft a metal band to insert where the original was broken, and the blacksmith went the extra step himself and created hand-forged nails that match the style originally used on this piece. All of the attention to detail give the appearance that these repairs were made 100s of years ago, not in 2019. The interior was lightly coated in wax instead of varnish for additional protection. Wax instead of varnish to not change the aged color of the wood. The felt glides on the bottom are not permanent and affixed with non-residue glue. This is to protect our hardwood floors. The metal band would likely scratch/scuff hardwood or tile floors. The felt "feet" keep the bottom of the trunk a fraction of an inch off the floor and are unnoticeable. They are on the bottom, after all. The price I paid was far less than anticipated. I was provided a quote before work started on this project, agreed to the amount and gave a right side dollar limit, but was prepared to pay more if more work hours ended up being needed. Interior designers and real estate agents spend many hundreds, often thousands of dollars for similar pieces and even replicas in order to "tie the room together" or "create that look" with a centerpiece, or to stage a home for photographs and to prepare for open house and sale. I have an original piece, now restored to last several hundred more years, and paid far less. Bob and the team at Anthony's Furniture Repair are top notch. Thank you, Mr. Oteri!!!
Joseph Siemiatkoski: I have used Anthony's several times now to finish furniture that I have built. They do a great job, and stand behind their work.
William Plummer: Absolutely awful service!! No showed and never returned calls. Kept changing the price for the repair. Came off as very dishonest.
Linda Uttaro: I have had a few pieces of my parents redone and they are beautiful. My aunts tab,Le h ad ciggerate burns and now they are gone. Excellent work.

Blackstone Furniture Restorers: what do users think?
Connor: Very impressed with the restoration work done by Dan and team. We had an antique beveled glass mirror that was heavily damaged during transit. The wood frame had damage and the glass needed exact and full replacement. We are more than happy with the work that was done.
Jon Andersen-Miller: I've used Dan/Blackstone to restore antiques and new/damaged furniture pieces for many years. His knowledge of finishes - techniques and materials - makes him a true resource.
Rob Dietel: Fantastic experience, great service and high quality work, timely turnaround, convenient pick up and delivery service - they helped repair an antique table and had helpful suggestions on the primary repair, plus some additional work - would definitely use them again!
Michael Curtis: They repaired a chair that I thought was a total lost cause. It looks brand new. Couldn't be more satisfied with their work.
Vincent Porretta: Positive:QualityBlackstone does excellent work. My antique furniture had been damaged by movers. After the craftspeople at Blackstone made the restoration, it is imperceptible! They also took great care in transporting the pieces. I highly recommend them!
Margaret Shepherd: This is a wonderful resource. They can reupholster your old, saggy chair and make suggestions about how to make it beautiful and comfortable again. And their wood refinishing is great. Don't rush them; they are busy because they take their time to get it right.
Salena Zona: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,Responsiveness,Value
Teresa Raimondi: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,ResponsivenessI had a sleigh bed that during a move snapped at the leg of the headboard. I called Dan on Friday, he picked it up on Saturday and returned it Saturday evening! It is in perfect condition and you can't tell it was repaired. Thank you so much for the quick service!!!
e stockly: Dan and his team took a badly damaged Mid Century console, and restored it beautifully. I am so impressed with their expertise and judgement. Highly recommend!
Stephen Pritzker: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,Responsiveness,ValueSeverely worn and broken hope chest over 70 years old was restored to better than new appearance. Extremely pleased with the work.
barbara clark: We have a pair of bar height swivel chairs that match our dining room set. We’re remodeling and decided to go with a counter height island, but had trouble finding chairs we liked as much as the ones we have already. Blackstone converted our current chairs to counter height and now they’re perfect. The owner answered my emails right away, the price was reasonable and the job was finished ahead of the estimated time. I would definitely use them again.
Elyse Mahoney: Dan and the entire team at Blackstone Furniture Restorers were truly fantastic to work with. Not only did Dan respond to my email in less than 24 hours and on a Saturday no less, but he also completely restored 3 of my pieces (trunk, corner table and rocking chair) 2 weeks earlier than expected. In addition, their prices were the most reasonable in the area as I spoke with two other restoration companies who’s prices couldn’t come close. You couldn’t put your trust or furniture in better hands than Dan and his team at Blackstone Furniture Restorers.
Claire Messud: Dan McAuliffe is a miracle worker! We are so grateful for the really beautiful job he's done for us on 5 chairs -- restoration & reupholstery in each case, 3 armchairs & 2 side chairs. One of the armchairs had been chewed up by our dog and was in terrible shape; one of the side chairs had a poorly repaired leg. They all look like new - just gorgeous. Both the restoration & the upholstery top notch - better than we could have imagined.
Anne Pose: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,Responsiveness,ValueDan fixed a sideboard that our puppy used as a chew toy. Dan was a pleasure to work with - very professional and knowledgeable. We just picked up the furniture and are very pleased with the work that was done. Highly recommend.
Tom Lynch: We recently had a 1850 Federation Table stripped and refinished by Dan and his team. They were excellent to work with, were very knowledgeable, made great suggestions, and took the time to explain the entire process involved in restoring this table. They also completed the restoration in a timely fashion. We were so pleased with the restored table that we have already asked Dan for a quote on a second refinishing project. We highly recommend Blackstone if you have a furniture refinishing/restoration requirement.
Bill Marder: You might think an antique furniture restorer might not be good for mid-century modern furniture. You would be wrong. I brought in a Nakashima rocking chair that my parents commissioned in 1970. It was well cared for but starting to show its age. I got it back beautifully restored. Thanks Dan and team. You know what you are doing!
home home: Check out barn at 17 antiques too, they're awesome
william vanneman: Outstanding restoration on 1813 desk, with expert advice, helpful suggestions, knowledgeable staff who go out of their way to explain options and functionality of precious works from the past
Ashley Silvey: I had a antique vanity stripped and refinished. This heirloom means so much to me and I am so excited to say that my experience at Blackstone and with the owner Dan was nothing but fantastic! He is very personable, efficient and was great at getting back to me with an estimate and all details regarding the transformation. He gave me options and is very knowledgeable which made me feel like my piece was in amazing hands. He was flexible helping me get the piece to and from too which was a standout for me! This is not something I have done before and he has made the experience worth doing again if needed! I found him randomly just through google and really wanted to take the chance and let anyone out there know he’s one to trust and use!
Martha Watson: I had a chair reupholstered and I could not be happier. The quality of the workmanship is unparalleled. They were so accommodating and helpful. I cannot say enough good things about them. I am planning to have a few more things done because the whole experience was great.
Tiffany Goddard: Dan and his crew fixed a dining room table and chair set for me and it looks fantastic! Whenever we have friends over they comment on the set. I highly recommend Blackstone.

Judd Refinishing: what do users think?
Leah Collich: There are too many great woodworkers out there to subject yourself to the extremely poor customer service offered by Bob Judd. A project I was told would take 4-6 weeks took nearly 6 months. I never proactively received updates and was talked down to every time he eventually called me back. After months of no progress on my piece and me sending numerous photos of my desired look, he insisted on me bringing in a physical magazine clipping bc “digital images can be edited”. I had to request a quote for the insurance adjuster at least 6 times before receiving it and it came with the incorrect price - half of what he originally quoted. The whole experience was very frustrating and prolonged and unfortunately ties some new bad memories to the special piece that I had them restore for me.He has some very talented men working for him and my piece did turn out beautiful, but I will definitely not recommend or reuse their services for the way I was treated.
Matt Cicciari: It's not often you find a business that places the customer's best interest first - even if that means passing on a job.I inquired about refinishing my damaged dining table top with a catalyzed lacquer finish. Their advice was to replace vs repair given the cost of the top. While I did not use their services THIS time, I will be sure to make them the FIRST call next time I need furniture repaired/refinished.Thank you for providing honest, professional advice that saved me $$$. That's real customer service!

BostonRaf - Restoration of Antique Furniture by Rafael Oganyan: what do users think?
Andrea Martinez: Rafael was so good to work with - he made sure I was going to be happy with the final product and consulted with me throughout the process. The antique table with 7 leaves we picked up on Craigslist came out beautifully! I would absolutely recommend him and use him again in the future! Thank you for all the hard work Rafael.
Siobhan Marie Keenan: About 15 years ago, I found this original teak coffee table off of Craigslist for $30 because it was listed wrong and I’ve now seen it on various sites for $2K+. Needless to say, the last couple of years I’ve been trying to find someone to fix it up and thanks to Mark from @upstairsdownstairsantiques - he gave me Rafael’s info and I truly cannot speak highly enough about him. So wildly talented and beyond kind.I’m extremely picky and the things I have, I love. This post is a shoutout to Rafael and below is his contact info for anyone who needs any work done. Given how long it took me to find him, I wanted to share. The best part is he picked it up and dropped it off to me which makes it an effortless process, especially living in Beacon Hill.
Maureen Neville: Rafael did amazing work on our dining room table and Morris chairs. I couldn't be more pleased with the finished products or the experience of working with Rafael. The dining room table ended up being quite the effort due to the finish that needed to be removed, including from the detailing in the legs, and his work was impeccable. And I am thrilled that we are able to showcase my great-grandfathers' chairs in our living room. In addition, Rafael is incredibly knowledgeable and a pleasure to work with. What a lucky find on the internet!
Dianne Lescinskas: My antique dining room table needed some serious work!!! I googled and found Raphael and he was extremely responsive. He came and looked at the table, explained what he would do and made arrangements for it to be picked up. I couldn’t be happier with the results! It’s like a brand new table. I highly recommend hiring Raphael. He is very knowledgeable and talented. I am hiring him for additional work as well!!
Louise Doucette: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,Responsiveness,ValueRafael did an amazing job restoring my antique tables! He was great to work with and always responded to calls/emails very quickly.I highly recommend him.
Allyson Lewis: Rafael was great, easy to work with, very accommodating, helpful, and personable, he actual recreated a missing carved mahogany spindle for an antique table that my parents bought on their honeymoon 70 years ago which was damaged by movers. He also cleaned up the table and did touch ups on the wood frame of my antique couch, which he also helped me get reupholstered, and makes house calls as needed. I would recommend him to anyone who needed these types of services, Thanks Rafael!!!
Arkadiy Chapko: Rafael is great at what he does! I brought him my parents' antique dresser, which got damaged during a move, and after he was done with it, all of the nicks and scratches were completely gone. He did a truly amazing job with the finish. Now it seems like the dresser looks better than it did fifteen years ago.
Irina Gordeyeva: I cannot say enough good things about Rafael. I couldn't be happier with the work he did on my chairs!!!!!!
