Paris Fashion Institute: what do users think?
Grace Children's Academy: Deeply underwhelming and extremely overpriced. Rude teachers. Do not waste your time. I think people get more taken with the idea of the program than the program itself. Did not learn a thing. They either wrote those reviews themselves or asked specific people to give them.
Sonia Chedli: I attended the Paris Fashion Institute seminar in 2008 and had a great experience. Not only did we get access to exclusive events like Premier Vision, we got to meet respected industry professionals such as Diane Pernet, Godfrey Deeny and Lyssa Horn. We covered everything from merchandising and fashion PR to product development. It was an excellent, well-rounded introduction to the world of fashion that led me to the decision to attend design school in Paris.
Dana Sommer: I attended PFI in June 2000. Going in, I thought it would be a fun little seminar which would complement my Fashion Design degree. Leaving, I knew my degree was the complementary education. Within a whirlwind of a month, my peers and I visited endless fashion houses and Parisian landmarks, attended fashion shows, lectures and events by prominent figures in the fashion industry including designers, artists, stylists and many more, and learned about the idiosyncrasies only actual experience within the world of fashion is able to teach you. Language, projects, papers… the expectation is perfection, the course work difficult, the deadlines tight. The seminar is genuinely unique; invaluable; to be eternally cherished.
Peter Redding: The Paris Fashion Institute is a recognised leader in Design education. PFI has been pushing design and textile innovation since it was founded. Joan White the founder of PFI has been teaching original and inspiring ideas to help you tread the path of work in the fashion field.Joan has a great team at the school and a collaboration of Industry people who come and share ideas direct from the field.I am GM of Liberty Art Fabric in Australia and still to this day use many of the skills PFI taught me.Peter Redding Sydney Australia
Just Joss'n: I attended PFI September 2013 and it was a great experience. You learn a lot in a month, besides getting the 1st hand experience in a fashion capital. You learn from the greats, you meet professionals in the industry, you get to work at fashion shows, and the list goes on and on…. Attending this seminar opens a lot of doors. I was able to get a mini internship with Rick Owens because of this school. The possibilities are endless, the friendships are forever, and the knowledge you leave with is everlasting. I was lucky enough to attend this school, and I highly recommend this school to anyone who is interested.
Lindsey Mousseau: PFI was my Alice in Wonderland experience into the world of fashion. PFI opened my eyes to a whole new world of the fashion industry that I didn't even know existed. I was in constant awe of everything I was so blessed to have been able to experience. This program is perfect for the fashion student, art student, architecture student, Jane, Dick, or Harry that wants to change their career path and step into the looking glass of the fashion world. Coming from someone like myself who had never studied fashion before and just had a pure love of fashion, I decided to be like Alice and jump down into that rabbit hole. PFI is most certainly the rabbit hole you want to jump into if you are looking for an unforgetable experience and the knowledge to set you up for a career in something you love to do. I attended the September 2012 seminar at PFI. The amount of knowledge and first hand experiences you endure is incredible. I can honestly say I learned more about the fashion industry in one month at PFI, then I did in four years of getting my Bachelor's degree in Business MGMT. The entire time I was there, I would pinch myself as a reminder that this was real! Studying in Paris with the fashion capital at your fingertips is truly a dream come true. The teachers there are not only knowledgeable but inspirational as well. The guest speaker's that took the time out of their busy schedules to come talk to us and answer our questions were remarkable. The director of the program, Joan White, is a Saint. She was our fashion "Fairy Godmother". She makes dreams come true and you can see how much she cares for every individual that participates in the program. Attending and working at the fashion shows during fashion week was an amazing experience as well. I don't believe that you can ever fully understand fashion unless you study here in Paris. Overall, this was one of the best adventures of my life and can proudly say "I can't go back to yesterday because I was a different person then" (Lewis Carroll). Sign up for this program today, to change who you were yesterday!
Louise McMaster: I attended the paris fashion institute in 2012, and I still see it is the turning point in my life. I learnt more about the fashion industry in just a month than I have in 5 years of fashion education in the UK. Not only did I meet people who I still consider my best friends, but I met amazing tutors and lecturers there such as Diane Pernet, Godfrey Deaney, Marco de rivera and Robb Young, not to mention the tutors that taught us day-to-day, who still continue to encourage and inspire me. Joan P. White introduced me to the best city in the world and gave me everything I need to excel in the fashion industry. Anyone serious about fashion will leave their classrooms behind and attend this institute in Paris to learn what fashion is really about.
jon costa: Paris Fashion Institute.PFI is not only the Premiere fashion program in Paris, a launching pad for the fashion industry's rising stars, collection of past, present and future educators .... It is a life changing experience. To write a review, can do it only an "opening argument" of justice. It cannot be summed up nor retold; only lived. One does not write about flight, love or time. You experience these things and encourage all those that seek them, to follow suit and experience them as well. In an era of quick glances and 140 character opinions, I 'hope" that you will understand that all that have enrolled, experienced and contributed to the Paris Fashion Institute could not sum up their one month course into a review nor 140 words. Their lives are still being effected by the program and the course "cahier de travaille" is in itself more than 140 PAGES long.I applaud you for taking the initiative for doing some research on PFI, you are showing initiative. I applaud you for reading this far; You are a smart person. As for PFI, I recommend you reach out on Facebook and check out the ParisFashionInstituteAlumni page and ask any question you would like. Someone will most certainly either have the answer, point you in the right direction and/or help you find it.As for the negative reviews... someone once told me"Believe nothing of what you hear and half of what you see."Now go enroll yourself, come back to this page and write your OWN review.Thank YouJonathan C Cordeiro
Theresa Alexander: PFI is one of the best study abroad experiences for students. It is designed in a way that participants are able to gain a much better understanding of the many aspects of the fashion world and the multitude of careers available to them. Classroom studies and field trips are mixed with talks and interaction with fashion professionals. I have long called it a "finishing school for fashion students."
Meredith: “My Paris Fashion Institute experience was one of the best experiences of my life. I learned more about the industry in one month than I ever could in 3 years of regular school. I went into the program thinking I "knew fashion" but over the 30 day time frame (which is WAY TOO SHORT! ;-)) it is as if you are reborn with this new wealth of Industry knowledge that truly sets you apart from all the other candidates out there applying for jobs. (It is one of my most used pitches in interviews/ a big reason I get the interview!) Each session carries about only 30 students at a time which enables a close mentorship from the professors and again, provides you to stand out amongst all the other people out there fighting to make it far in Fashion. I am originally from Ohio and have lived there my entire life. After my time at PFI, I was inspired to do something just as great the next Summer (2011) and was fortunate to land an internship at VERSACE in NYC through my own networking, ambition and confidence that was further developed during my time in Paris. It gave me a spirit that I did not know I had in me and as a result of my schooling at PFI/ Versace- I was able to land a job in NYC following my graduation in 2012 as an Account Rep for the Adidas Group. Although the session is only a month long, we all stay in contact and maintain good relationships. We are a family that shares the same love -FASHION and it is a timeless and beautiful blessing. 3 Thank you PFI!”
David Gil: I attended Paris Fashion Institute in 1998 after graduating from the International Fine Arts College in Miami. 17 years latter, I am still living in Paris and I am still in contact with some of the professionals who came to our PFI classroom and who shared with us their personal fashion experience. In just one month, PFI gave me the opportunity to meet Gilles Rosier (Kezo designer), Gilles Dufour (Lagerfeld’s right hand man at Chanel), Martine Sitbon (fashion designer), Diane Pernet (founder of the first Fashion Film Festival), Lisa Horn (Barney’s New York, Paris head office director) … among many other stylists, fashion show producers, visual merchandisers, store buyers … PFI was an unforgettable experience that I will never regret.
Alex Bossi: What can one say about PFI?... Changed your life? Changed your perspective of fashion? Changed the way you walk into an interview for the job in fashion your dying to get? I would say all of the above. You want that "experience" that someone wants you to have to nail the job? Go to PFI! You want to wake up and know that you have the upper hand. Go to PFI. As much effort as you put in to the course you will get out. I went for a month and stay for 4. I would do it again if I felt it was necessary. Go there and get the backside of fashion not what you can read in a magazine or a blog, but learn what the fashion world whispers about. Whether you want to be a designer, fashion blogger, model, or what not, you gain an unreachable knowledge of fashion when you attend PFI. You build friendships with some students and professors that are envied by those who cant. After writing this I am probably gonna get the logo tattooed on my body somewhere. Go to PFI and live life. (Only if your ready to smile.) - AB
Diane Pernet: Perhaps it would be wise to visit the site and hear the students own testimonials. Words were not put into their mouths.Diane Pernet
KG Development: Please do not waste your time or money on this horrendous program. I've searched other reviews and it appears that I am not the only one who was duped into thinking that this would be an experience of a lifetime. I would suggest going through FIT or Parsons - schools with reputable names. The Paris Fashion Institute is based in some house in Boston and that's exactly what the program feels like. They put all of the money into their pockets and nothing into the program. You're better off burning your $5,000.
