Natalie Smith: I rented a car from Boston Logan airport, my rental was suppose to be with Payless. Once getting off my flight from Lax I was told they was sold out of cars, which I did my reservation online. The supervisor did end up accommodating me with a vehicle but once I drove out of the garage and to the high way Omg the car was a horrible ride it made a loud noise which gave me a headache and as you switch the gear from park to drive it made a screeching sound. I was tired from my flight and do to my rental for one day I just wanted to get to my destination. I rented a car from Avis at the Groton airport in Ct and had no problem but this car from Boston Logan just wasn’t acceptable. After returning my rental I was charged extra fees and for gas, which my car was on full at return. Don’t trust Payless at Boston Logan airport complete rip off. Take a video of the gas gauge and of the person you leave the car with. They are a rip off I will never rent from them and will not recommend them to any one.

Bc Cam: Avoid renting from Payless. They gave me a high mileage wholesale car (e.g. end of life 70K miles +), with bad breaks (car made horrible sounds when breaks were applied and the car shook), poor alignment, dirty windows and dashboard inside (really nasty), and when I called up their hotline for help no one helped. It is not worth saving $20 for an unsafe car. Car had part of name missing on the back, lots of scratches etc as well. They co-list with Budget because Budget owns Payless. Budget cannot help you even if they are the ones who issue the contracts to you. It was an awful experience. I would honestly avoid Payless and Budget from this point forward. Even if it appears to save you money, is an unsafe car really worth it?

E Mro: Careful:1.) don't forget anything in the car when returning. Good chance they will not have seen/found it.2.) I had booked via Hopper - successfully. 30 min later i receive an email indicating the booking was "successfully" cancelled. Not upon my intuitive. I was planning to pick it up and needed it. Eventually showed up in person on same evening, and had to book anew. This time for $60 more for these 2.5 days. Payless said it was Hopper's fault 😐. Could not confirm. But always easy to blame others. Had they been professional, the would have asked me for the intitial confirmation and offered me the vehicle at that price.3.) Verify all damages on the car VERY diligently. Mine had a lot, and the status slip that was in the car upon pick-up had only half of those marked. Had to be redone upon my request. Had I not requested I may have had to pay for damage I didn't cause4.) When I wanted to make use of the car insurance offered with the Amex credit card, I was told that is not possible, because the don't deal with the credit card company in case of an accident. How can I verify it. Had to bite the bullet and pay another $60+. Never had that elsewhere.I'll avoid them in the future.
Sherri Cornelius: Let me start off by saying the customer service at the airport was great, slow but great but I will never rent from here again as I had the car 6 hrs and it broke down. I was left stranded and alone 19 hrs even after multiple (over 10) calls to roadside assistance provided by rental company. Then once vacation over I noticed I was still billed entire week even though it only started up for 6 hours. I also received text messages both 5 and 6 days after scheduled return date demanding vehicle be returned or legal action would be taken. Even after calling them I am informed I would have to wait up to 10 days for a refund. Not only was i billed for the entire week via Affirm, which is where they pay the bill and i am able the repay them, i pay monthly but it can be split up to have it paid in full within, 3,6, 9, or 12 months with no penalties if paid off early. The way i was treated and the way business is run is completely Unacceptable. I have again called multiple times about being charged for a vehicle that I was unable to drive. After being stuck in a hospital from 8pm til 3pm the next day awaiting roadside assistance is a joke. I was there on vacation. I was so upset that I had them pick up the vehicle and I had to find rides and depend on other people for entire week, even having to find transportation back to the airport 2 hours away for my flight home. So no I would NEVER rent from this company again!!!!!
Mike Faulkingham: Please! Do NOT be fooled by Payless’s low prices. Regardless of what you do, they will attempt to overcharge you. When we returned the car, we had JUST filled it with gas. A woman came and CONFIRMED this. We drove away and five minutes later were charged $150 for a “fuel surcharge.” We immediately called and were told to provide a receipt for the fill-up. It took numerous phone calls and emails to resolve the issue, including Payless claiming to “not be able to find a record of our having rented from them,” despite attaching a copy of our rental agreement. If you search, you will see that Payless has had class-action lawsuits against them for this very activity.Please don’t make the mistake we did. Rent from anyone else. By the way, Payless is owned by Avis, so Avis is early okay with the scam being perpetrated by its company. I’ll no longer rent from Avis either. I hope our experience saves someone else some money, time, and aggravation.
Alexa Leonard: I will never rent from this company again. I prepaid for 8 days and was still it was an unexpected $250 deposit when I went to pick it up. When I got in the vehicle it was so dirty I couldn't even see out the window and I had to pull over to clean the window and the driver side mirror so I could drive safely. I requested the pre-payment purchase of fuel and it was never added so I was hit with an unexpected $129 for a tank of gas when I returned it. This is not okay. I will never ever rent from this company again.

It was literally impossible to exchange the vehicle, unless we returned all the way back to the pick up airport while in route to destination Car was not cleaned or maintained and Payless left us abandoned when we needed roadside assistance
Jón Ferrier: Beware of hidden drop off charges on one-way rentals. When I found I had to drop off the car in Tennessee rather than returning to Boston I was given an estimate of $300-500. The actual extras and taxes on those extras went up to more than $700. But I only found out after the car was dropped off. An absolute rip off. It’s not like I dropped the car off in Peru!
Anthony Cruz: The representative automatically added 'Loss Damage Waiver' product. She did not go through the optional products/services and ask if I accepted or declined the optional charge. When I asked why the amount was so high, she said it was just a hold. Which turned out to be a complete lie. Shame on me for not reading my agreement line-for-line and shame on your company for misleading customers and taking advantage of our trust.

Ian Bednowitz: Terrible! Waited over an hour in line to pick up a car because Payless was combined with Avis and Budget at this location. Once I got the vehicle, speaking to the rep felt like I was being worked over - they kept highlighting all the "add-ons" I needed to buy and the repercussions they put in if I don't - use my credit card insurance and Payless will charge me for "loss of use" which isn't covered; if I don't prefill my tank (which is a total ripoff because they get the gas I don't use for free), then I need to fill the tank within five miles of the drop-off location and bring a receipt or they will charge me a penalty (they did despite me following their directions!); the tolltag was so confusing I was grateful I could pay cash and not deal with them.I saved about $150 on Payless vs. Hertz for a four-day rental. I would go with Hertz every time in the future!

Tara Jones: I don't usually make bad reviews but out of the safety of drivers I feel like I have to. DO NOT RENT from this office! They put me in a car with bald tires where I ended up with a flat and was stranded for 1.5 hours on the highway. Then when the tow truck finally came, I ended up having to pay. Dollar says they are not liable for the tow charge. Everything about this experience was bad, from the grumpy works, to the phone charger being broken, to the bald tires.
Pedro Faveri: Try Avis before Dollar, similar price, faster to get the car, and easy to find pick up and return spots.
Allan Markus: I wish I could give a 0. I rented a car with Dollar Car Rental on Columbus Ave at the end of July. The rental agent asked me if I wanted to spend 15/day for our two week rental for our Honeymoon to buy the toll pass. I told him that we were only going through tolls on two days of our 14 day Honeymoon. To make a long story short, we had 4 tolls (which there are no options to pay in MA or NY except EZPass) of $1.24 to $1.76 each BUT DOLLAR CHARGED A $9.99 fee for each to process the toll (For those who love math this is a 805% MARKUP FEE. This is a scam to make extra money for Dollar and I WOULD NEVER recommend using them and I will not use them or their parent company HERTZ ever again.To add insult to injury, on day 3 we got a flat tire on the road and when we called their roadside assistance they told us that we had not paid for roadside assistance but if I could drive the car back to Boston with a flat from Gloucester, they could help us. Obviously could not do that. The phone operators had no sympathy and just said to call your own insurance and see if they could help.I did write to Governor Baker to look into this business practice.

Joe Galaszewski: On top of already paying over $100 a day for a six day trip in Boston, and them not having the available car that I requested and reserved. I just received a bill for the tolls we drove through during our vacation. 13 dollars in tolls which I am more than happy to pay but then Thrifty charged us $9 dollars per each toll we drove through. So I am expected to pay 75 dollars total for the 13 dollars in actual tolls. There are no cash options in Boston and these fees were never discussed with us. I would strongly recommend using a different rental company.

Dollar has closed their own store, put up a single station in the Hertz store and expect all the people who book cars through their website to just wait over an hour. The incompetency is fascinating for how useless their customer service team as well. You will watch as all of Hertz’s customers get taken in and get their cars while you just stand there with no sort of communication for Dollar Car. The person running this branch should be disappointed by their own incompetence
Danielle Brosnan: We booked a car for a road trip from Philly to Boston after our flight was cancelled. The booking process was really easy. The car was ready for me when I arrived only about 15 minutes later. The vehicle was a 2018 or 19 Nissan which was perfect for three people and luggage. When we got to Boston it was super easy to turn in the vehicle and checkout. The only downside was the ridiculously high inter state fee. That actually cost more than the original rental so doubled our price but for the situation we were in it was worth it bc we didn't lose an entire day of our trip.

No compensation was given for wasting our time and delaying our trips. We were told to prepay to get cheaper rates and found out that we could have paid $20 less per day had we waited to pay at pick up. Do not waste you're time or money with Thrifty!

This location won’t even pick up their phone. A week later and apparently my only option is to return to this location in person to make a scene.

I arrived at 9:14am needles to say I am still standing in the line with about 15 other customers waiting to be serve. One particular customer has been with the same Thrifty representative for an Hour. Now that same rep just came out and stated that they may not have any cars if you don’t a a reservation..Luckily for me my reservation is and should still be good for 48hours at this rate they may just cancel it before I’m even seen. 3 Columbus drive is the location just a few minutes from the airport that you want to avoid if your renting from thrifty /dollar Hertz rental.👎🏿👎🏿👎🏿👎🏿👎🏿

Michelle Thompson: The customer service was bland to horribly rude. The car was scuffed and smelled like weed and cigarettes. I was worried I’d get a ticket or worse if I was pulled over for the weed smell. It gets better. The transmission went out a couple of hours into my trip which was not only terrifying but caused me to have to cancel half my plans. Instead of driving up the coast we ended up in an hour Uber ride back to Boston with not enough time to finish our intended plans. I will say, The woman on the phone with roadside assistance was wonderful. She was Literally, the only good thing about my experience.
Gloria Letwin: Car not clean, smelled of dope smoke. I have a smoke allergy which flared up so we returned the car early. No refund for early returns but no compensation for providing a vehicle that was not serviced properly.
Trevor Toms: We've used Budget on three visits to the USA, and on each visit the cars have been perfect for our needs. Our last visit was for 5 adults and 2 young children. We were given a Toyota Sienna, and this took all of us with all luggage. Ok, we only carried the luggage to & from the airport to the accommodation (100 miles) but it did all fit. For the rest of our 2 weeks, the car had plenty of room for everyone. On our next trip (whenever that may be), Budget will be our first choice.

Pollock-Molchanov Foundation: This location does not have FastBreak, despite Budget’s multiple confirmations that it does. This location will automatically charge you for gas on short trips even if you provide a gas receipt, so check the charges carefully.

Joshua Viau: At pick-up in Boston, I didn't even make it out of the parking garage before the car's low pressure tire warning came on. The right front tire was much lower than the others. I circled back, and the attendant just added some air and sent me on my way. It wasn't until several hours later when we'd driven ~100 miles that the source of the slow leak, a nail in the right front tire, was discovered. On the plus side, the Budget rep. at the airport in Portland, ME, was helpful in switching out the car during a storm. However, our replacement car was in bad enough shape that we had to switch it out again within 12 hours. Our third car made it to the end of the trip without incident. In summary, Budget's *in-person* customer service was good across the board (note: via phone it takes forever to reach a human), but the vehicles themselves were a headache.
Jessica DeMotte: Location is convenient to the back Bay Area for a one day rental. Do wish it was open on Sunday or at least later on Saturday. Car had 50k miles, smelled faintly of smoke and showed a fair bit of wear/dirt on interior but was fine for 1 day quick trip to Concord.

Famille Arcis: At pick-up, the staff was generally unfriendly, but the main reason why I put such a low score is that the car was dangerous to drive. On my trip back to Boston, I had a very hard time controlling the car under heavy rain, as it would inadvertently skid on the motorway, even when going straight. I had to adjust the speed to 40-50mph, and this was unquestionably the two most stressful hours of driving of my life. When I stopped to refuel, I inspected the tires, and it turned out that the front ones were severely worn-out, one even being completely slick. With hindsight, I could have easily got into an accident as a result of what is poor maintenance from Budget.
David Bond: We had a great experience with Budget. The cost of the car hire was a lot cheaper than any competitor, the car was new and clean with a seamless pick-up and drop-off experience.

bharath maddipudi: They gave us car with broken bumper with duck tape on it when I mentioned front desk. Front desk says “it’s just duck tape you can still drive”. In the meantime other customers came telling their rental smells too much smoke. Up on request they provided me with another rental, when it was started it shows TPMS sign and again when I called the front desk they says “ they just filled air and did maintenance it’s good to drive.” but their maintenance guy up at the parking checked all the 4 tire pressure and told all are at 23 psi and raised to 33psi. The whole process to get my rental took 1hour. I am very dissatisfied with front desk. But the bright side I got is they considered and didn’t charge me extra dropping my rental 20min late. Please check before you drive away from rental it may cost yours or someone else life if you drive a out of condition or poor maintenance cars.

I had previously booked with another company (Enterprise) three months in advance of my trip and then a week before my trip they texted me and said that they couldn't fulfill my reservation. Budget was able to get me a rental at an affordable price a week before my trip. There were also no surprise fees. The price I paid when I reserved was what I paid (apart from tax).

That I have to take contact with them (but with their HQ in Tulsa) to organize the return !!Try to get contact by phone (fail to get in touch with the right guy), sent an email (no answer) and sent a registered mail (never answer!). I try to get in contact with the Copley Station but there is simply no phone number and no email !After 3 weeks, DOLLAR RENT A CAR debited me for an amount of about 2700 $ !!This company refuses to communicate with me, never give me any explanation about the amount.You have to be aware that such story can happened to you too... so prefer Hertz at the airport, they are professional and we had a good experience there from a previous trip in Boston.

Faith Mahaney: Terrible. I went to return the car and no one was there. They had gone home early for the day. I had to go back to the valet attendant and make sure he marked that the car was on time then I had to call the next day to verify only one day was charged. Too much work get a zipcar. Also ez pass is in the car and you are encouraged to use it but they charge you 15$ on top of each toll you go through. Very expensive trip.

John Thomassen: I contacted Budget to extend my rental one day, I called the phone number shown on the rental contract jacket. I was connected with an off shore call center to add one day. Call center asked me for my visa # and payment of $99 to extend. I supplied it, person said card was declined. Asked for my debit card number, they said they would authorize $999 but only charge 99, I refused. Both 999 and 99 were held then withdrawn from my debit account. I have disputed both, expect my bank to contact Budget about this overcharging

Rahul Chandan: DO NOT RENT FROM THIS BUDGET/AVIS! NO OVERNIGHT DROP-OFF OR FLEXIBILITY!! My rental experience was absolutely unsatisfactory, the rental staff close promptly at 6pm, not even leaving a little room for delays. Since I was using the rental to move extra large furniture, I was forced to unload it in the parking garage, haul it up and wait on the curb for a big enough UberXL to arrive, adding an extra hour to my already tiring move-in day. If the Budget employees had given me even 15-30mins extra, I could have moved my stuff in, fueled up the car, etc. Very rude and disappointing treatment from the staff at time of drop off.
Bill Wolpe: I received a Highlander that had severely warped rotors. Every time I braked, the car would shutter. I mentioned this when I dropped it off and they didn’t really seem to care

Office was small, crowded, and with no AC, hardly what you need during a pandemic.Car was not in a good shape and they handed it with almost an empty tank.Staff was not nice or helpful, almost as if they are annoyed that you are using their cars, although you can realize the dysfunction comes from much higher and staff is basically unable to solve things. But at least they could pretend to be nice.

I was forced to purchase a new tire, which ruined our day trip, & I am now fighting to get full reimbursement. I will NEVER use Budget again!! If I could, I would give NO stars.
pam melo: Picking up the vehicle was fine. Returning it was a nightmare. So short staffed at return center. Was told by employee to just leave keys in vehicle console. Vehicle was never scanned and no receipt or e-receipt given. The following day my account still showed as opened even though vehicle had been returned. Another phone call to customer service 2 days after return showed vehicle returned but charged a refueling fee even though vehicle was fueled across the street from the rental center as they requested. Now trying to appeal that charge. Snap a photo of fuel gauge and vehicle at return center and keep your fuel receipt.
Iain Mackenzie: The pick up process was very straightforward and the car I rented was brand new but the man who handed over the car was surly and not helpful. It would have been nice if he had taken the trouble to make sure I was happy with the location and function of key controls, like the lights, hand brake, windshield wipers, and petrol cap. I returned the car exactly as required but Budget took a further small charge from my credit card. I have no idea what this was for.

Gyan Penrose-Kafka: The rental car center is reached by taking a bus but they can't be bothered to offer announcements so most people are confused by the stops. I usually rent from Avis, and there is usually some issue that makes me need to talk with an agent.

A good experience overall!

Khay Money: I went to pick up my rental car mind you I have been a customer with enterprise for yearsssss literally I don’t use any other car rental places I tried this location for the first time ever because it was close to home what a mistake !!! I was having issues with my card because they charge a $300 deposit which is already outrageous but while I was getting my payment ready the manager decided to give the van I had already went through procedure and paperwork for to someone else then go back and forth arguing with me because I was frustrated how could u be mad ? Before the rude and unprofessional manager SEAN HERAN got involved I was dealing with a very professional employee by the name of Darren and I want to say thank you again but I switched my reservation to The airport was in my rental with great customer service in no time I will never go to a rental location in the hood again!!! Corporate needs to make Darren the store manager !!!
Allaysa Prudent: We loved how efficienct and easy it was to rent from this location. First off, they have a wide variety of vehicles available which is a plus for us as we were looking strictly for a full size pickup truck. We received a great value for our rental. Pickup was smooth! We arrived almost one hour ahead of our scheduled time but Tyler Lips was awesome enough to help us out with checking in. Our vehicle was in good condition. We did not encounter any problems during our rental period. We also loved how Tyler sent us a follow up message just to reassure us that we can contact them anytime we have any issues. Great and timely communication. We'll be renting from this place again whenever we come back to Boston. 👌🏼

Istiaque Ahmed: My experience with this Enterprise branch was very satisfactory. This is the time we are having scarcity for rental cars in the USA. Despite of having the issues, Enterprise is doing a very good job. So, I try to choose them over others whenever I can. Never got too much disappointment from them. The staffs of this branch were very friendly and polite. Whenever I asked them any questions, they answered very politely. They gave me a car where I found low tire pressure signal, so I told them, and they replaced the car immediately. Although I thought I could use it, just needed little air because of cold temperatures. But they wanted to make everything perfect. So, they gave me another car. I drove it and took it to New Hampshire, suddenly I got low tire pressure signal while I was driving. I checked all the tires and found a small piece of rubber popped out from the driver side front tire. That was little bit scary situation, so I took the car to the nearest Enterprise immediately. And they replaced the car at once. So finally, when I arrived this branch to drop off the car, I told them everything was ok, but I had to replace the vehicle once more. It was ok, it could happen anywhere, nothing wrong with them. But they took it very seriously and offered me a day off from my rental agreement. I said it is completely fine, I do not want anything. But they did it anyway. I have had so many car rental experiences all over the country, but this experience was definitely one of the best.

Audreanna: Thank you Enterprise for ruining a huge part of my vacation. I made a reservation 4 months in advance and this location decided to overbook and didn't get cars in to accommodate the reservations. The manager of this location told me there would be 50 people waiting for cars. They "escalated" the issue but no one from upper management reached out to me to help me a find a car at another location. The customer service line didnt help either as they "didn't want to mess with my rate" Its just a bunch of pointing fingers. They don't care about servicing first reservations. I think regardless of the reservation date, they just give out cars to whoever is willing to pay the most. I plan on filing a BBB compliant.
