South Street Diner: what do users think?
Veronica M: The cause of being an out of towner and making too many wrong turns led me to this magnificent gem of a diner. South Street Diner has everything right going for it. There was a line to enter the diner at 2 am and doormen to facilitate a smooth and steady transition into the diner. The food is very fresh, looks great and tastes amazing when you crave a late evening 2am breakfast meal. Last but not to say the least, from the line cooks to the serves were excellent. It has The most chill vibes from their synergy of providing above and beyond style of excellent service. I was very happy just watching the ladies work like the ants do without any qualms if someone accidently ordered twice. You see everything being cooked in front of you and the sounds and smells of sizzling food orders were making me crave for it even more. It was just fluid and everyone got along in harmony with a high volume of food orders being requested and everyone sang along with the music that was jammin' from the jukebox. The customers were singing in tune from separate tables. Beautiful! I wish all places were like this. It has the real family feel while dining there and not just the feed the people and grab your cash kind of deal. The prices are affordable $-$$ for an individual order. This was an accident that turned into a blessing. I was sad leave to continue my journey home because a few more wrongs turns were awaiting me ahead. LolPlease check out South Street Diner and support these hardworking ladies because we do not need another amazing such as this one closing down. I am happy just remembering this diner. Thank you to everyone working at South Street Diner for being the best at what you do.It is a small diner that is worth squeezing into. It did not have a ramp or wheelchair accessible entrance. A few steps to enter the diner. Street parking only.

They have one bathroom that is ok but not super maintained. The Booths are a little tight but are ok. Sitting at the bar is good option if you need more space.

Maria Gariepy: Haven’t been to Saus since pre covid days and it still holds up to the first time I tried their poutine. The chicken sandwiches are HUGE for $11. Great prices and fast service.Recommended dishes Crispy Chicken Sandwich, Sandwich, Fries and Poutine …More
ted dorset: This was FANTASTIC! This place could definitely be my go to every night! POUTINE!!!! Yup, thank you! This was a meal in itself!! Get it with the egg!! #sogood!!! I had the fish sandwich and the fresh homemade hot 'saus' hit the mark!!! The IPA selection is out of this world too!!! You CANNOT go wrong here! So, when in Boston, visit Saus!!!!Yup! You're welcome!
Ben McGuire: When planning our visit to Boston, we read that Saus was a must. I completely agree. I had the Kimchi Chicken Sando and it was one of the best sandwiches I’ve eaten in my life. I absolutely devoured it. The poutine was chock-full of cheese curds. I tasted the pineapple teriyaki sando and it was great too. The service was fast and friendly. There was plenty of seating both inside and out. Highly, highly recommend checking it out.

Jack Suminsby: The burger while it tastes fine is advertised as being a 1/4 lb but i dont believe that for a second. Also the poutine (the reason i came in) was very disappointing. The cheese curds weren't melted at all which is the most important part... and if im paying $9 for an order of fries, chunks of cheese and gravy it being melted is the least i can ask for.
Megan Roscoe: Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5Recommended dishes Crispy Chicken SandwichMore
Jeff Todd: One of my favorite places to go and not too expensive! Burgers are a nice recent addition to the menu. I noticed that the poutine serving sizes are a little smaller than they used to be. Sara Van Schaik: Really great food options for a low price in the typically expensive downtown area. Love the chicken nuggets and fries with curry ketchup.Vegetarian options: Cauli falafel burger was great
Mark: My God, one of the rudest customer service experiences I've ever had. Young kid behind the counter acted offended whenever someone ordered anything. It's like it was painful for him to work behind the register. I went back up to order extra sauces (there's a cost per sauce) and he acted like I had ruined his life. No response when I said please and thank you, just eye rolls.Food was great, but wow, my wife and I felt completely uncomfortable. We were the only people in the restaurant around 3pm on a Thursday.
Lauren Suggs: The food was amazing! Fries were crispy and salty. The chicken sandwich was great and loved all the variety and flavors of sauce. The staff alone would make me avoid this place. Very rude, lazy and unprofessional. When asked a question they would just point to the menu and acted like it was a bother that we were asking what things were. It was our first time there. Customer service is just as important as the taste of your food.

Rebecca Ehlers: Authentic Italian food, cozy atmosphere, and a steal that the prices. We recommend this place to everyone we meet. The pizza is amazing, and we're slowly working our way through the menu with other food items. We haven't been disappointed yet. However, it is a popular restaurant, and menu items sell out quickly. So go sooner rather than later, or you'll miss out on some delicious food.Parking: There is limited to no street parking. Recommend walking to the restaurant.Wheelchair accessibility: There is a ramp into the restaurant they wheel chairs should be able to make.
Natalia Etingen: The best Italian pizza in the city. Simple, great taste, lots of cheese and always fresh. There is also other Italian food available
DD Severn: I hadn't been here for many years but I remembered how good the pizza was - I was on a work trip just outside of Boston and made a trip into the city and made sure to stop here. Still delicious! The men behind the counter were really nice - people coming in knew them by name and were asking about their families. I got in right before the line started getting long but the line seemed to be moving quickly.
Tiphaine Demathieu: Cheap but don't really understand the hype (they only had pizza left so I will let a 4 stars in case the other items on the menu were better)

Ali Tubaishat: I have been coming here my entire life. My whole Italian end of the family and I eagerly look forward to galleria umberto opening every year and make a day of it , or should i say multiple days. Along with the pastry shops and a cappuccino in the north end. The experience of coming here is like no other. The amount of nostalgia you get , nothing has changed! It doesn’t feel any different and I love it. The food is amazing and inexpensive. Arancini’s , pizza , calzones, pizzette’s , all of my favorites. Same owners running shop .. just an amazing gem that holds a place in our families heart
Jasmine Taby: The pizza was sooooo delicious, thick and fluffy at the same time! Tomato sauce tasted great and the cheese ratio was perfect. I have never had a Sicilian slice like that, I regret not buying more, especially for the price, only 2.25 per slice. The panzerotti filled with potato and mozzarella were stellar! The place is simple not necessary the cleanest but honestly I don’t think it matters, the food was delicious and affordable to care. The food looked to good that I forgot to take a picture before eating it….

You have to get there earlier because they only make a limited amount. Once they're gone, they're gone. The service is fast. The prices will make you feel like it's still 1998! It's only open until 2. We now drive more than an hour every few months to get our rice and slice fix!

Travis W.: Classic American diner with some upscale menu options (Duck confit hash) near Massachusetts Ave on Washington St. A popular local favorite and its easy to see why with the friendly staff and great food with generous portions and a welcome change to many of the dining options in the South End.I had the Reuben with onion rings, pickle, and some coffee. The Reuben is served on perfectly grilled dark Rye bread that has a nice crisp to it but isn't hard. The real star of this sandwich though is the corned beef which it is loaded with. It is lighter on the kraut than I would have preferred, but that is personal taste. The onion rings were crispy (again without being hard) and were piled high. The pickle is more of a brined cucumber and that cucumber flavor really comes through. The coffee was robust in flavor compared to many you find in dining establishments.Total bill was $25 (minus tip).Overall, a great place for breakfast or lunch and I'll definitely be back!

Stephanie Attoumo: If you follow me then you know I love a good diner. Mike's was good and I'd go again. I ordered breakfast to eat in and some tips and chicken to go. My eggs were perfect, bacon soft just the way I like it. Homefries were good but could have used some more seasoning. Pancakes were odd and disappointing. They were big and golden so I was initially excited. Then it cut it and took a bite. I almost thought it was not cooked right but the waitress assured me it was. The pancake was very heavy and dense. I've never had a pancake like that and did not like it. The steak tips and chicken entree I ate for dinner. Had enough leftover for breakfast today. Steak tips flavorful and chicken was nice and juicy. I'd definitely go again. As I sat there and the staff passed by with other orders everything looked so good. Huge portions for sure. Friendly staff. No parking available. Must park on street.
Jimmy JAM: Classic Diner food. Portions large but presentation and flavors not extra ordinary. Griddles burger had funny taste and flavor, bacon barely cooked. Pastrami salty. French toast flattened for what effect I dont know. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here..solid reliable diner Fare. Don't expect more.

Ashley Townsend: If I could give this place zero stars I absolutely would! Although I’ve heard a lot of great things about this place, they are not versed AT ALL on food allergies despite the note on the bottom of the menu stating otherwise. I called this afternoon to get additional information because of the allergies I have. I specifically asked for a manager and was told that she was busy and unable to help me at that moment. So I was then handed off to an EXTREMELY RUDE waitress named Julie. Whom after I shared about my allergies, knew basically no information and essentially said that it’s better if I don’t dine there and had not one clue about cross contamination or any idea of how alterations to dishes can be made. Since waiters are not as thoroughly versed on food, ingredients, and kitchen cross contamination, I always ask for a manger since they are able to answer my questions adequately. While trying to explain this to Julie, she continued to cut me off, be rude and then hang up on me. She was a DISGRACE of a waitress and I truly hope she gets better training on how to appropriately speak and act with customers. Additionally, if the chef is unable to speak English as Julie so rudely shared, then quite frankly this establishment should take off their acknowledgment of allergies because it doesn’t seem like they can be very accommodating. If you have allergies, you’re better off avoiding this place because they are not knowledgeable at all about them and you’ll most likely end up having an allergic reaction. I would highly recommend these places that have delicious food and are extremely knowledgeable and accommodating: Five Horses Tavern, The Friendly Toast, and North Street Grille.

Still very cute and great for a quick lunch. If you're looking for a delicious and satisfying meal, I highly recommend trying the Americanos tacos. These tacos are a great choice for anyone who loves Mexican-inspired cuisine and is looking for a tasty and filling dish. The chicken is grilled to perfection, resulting in a juicy and flavorful meat that is the perfect complement to the creamy sour cream and fresh cilantro.Definitely one of the best taco places in Boston!
NateBlade: I mean, the food is pretty good. I bought a burrito, which was good. Some issues though, soda was flat, and the ice machine was broken. Inside seating was minuscule, and the inside benches were not that good.Other than that, it was fine. star star: 5 stars for the price/quality balance. The hand-pulled lamb noodles are what they are most known for (a steal for 13$!), and they're definitely worth a try if you're in the area. It's not the best I've tried compared to other similar places in other cities, but it is the best option in Boston I have been to for this type of food. Noodles are a bit thick and chewy (if that's the texture you prefer then you will love!) and the chili oil and lamb is delicious. Wish there were a bit more vegetables in the bowl, but you can add extra toppings for additional fees.Food came relatively quick for a weekend lunch, but restaurant is very small, so you'll likely be looking at a takeout option if you go at a busy time. They accept both credit and cash, but don't really provide much service for dine in (much more of a self-service type place). Overall great option for fresh hand-pulled noodles in Boston!
Bailey Williams: Some of the best Chinese food on the east coast and a hot & sour noodle soup that will go toe to toe with any spot in NYC

Panadayana: Really great find on our trip, enjoyed the hand pulled noodles (no broth just chili oil) lamb skewers, pork and lamb burgers. The spice level I got was the spiciest and it was just right. Cash or they have a digital kiosk as well as some Asian drinks to try. The lychee was surprisingly refreshing with the spice. Would go again next time.Vegetarian options: They did have some vegetarian options like tofu and no meat all veggie

samantha s: Never had hand pulled noodles before but ordered them with pork. A bit salty for my taste but would get them again. The prices are great, especially for the portion sizes. I think one order of noodles (with pork) lasted me 2-3 meals at least.
Jeanine: SO GOOD!! This was one of the first meals we had in Boston and it set the bar for the remainder of our stay. Staff were wonderful and welcoming, and the price is absolutely right. Truly a gem!!
Ashley Lauren: Holy moly the soup is so good
Josue Perez Campos: super flavourful dishes and the pick up orders are ready super fast, especially during lunch peak hours. i will be returning.

libra dom: so mid. came here yesterday and was really excited because i haven’t had hand pulled noodles since ‘xi’an famous foods’ in new york and ‘chili square’ in quincy, thinking this place would somewhat compare to those spots. i was so wrong; the noodles were heavily doughy and poorly pounded, they ended up sitting in my stomach for the entire night and made me feel queasy. the soup had little to no flavor and the only things i could taste were a little bit of lamb essence and heavy sodium. i asked for half spice and they gave me none, then said they’d charge me an extra dollar for the spice they missed.overall, gene’s does lamb pretty well though. i asked for half spice and it was nicely seasoned and juicy! the skewer i had was one of the only salvaging parts of this experience, as well as the pieces of tender lamb in the hard-to-stomach noodle soup. this place does satisfy cravings for hand-pulled noodles, but you’d be better off going to chili square in quincy for authentic xi’an food instead.
Nicole Raphaelson: I agree w the previous reviewer. These hand-pulled noodles are nothing like the thick but stretchy xi'an noodles of nyc fame and are worse than Gene's pre pandemic. These noodles have all the stretch of pieces of wall to wall carpeting. Try Chili House in Quincy for excellent rendition.Food: 2/5|Service: 3/5|Atmosphere: 1/5 …More
Roka Hosono: Don’t know why the rating was so high. My main problem was they they put a lot of Onions in the Lamb noodle. It doesn’t work well with the dish and it gives out a distinct smell I’m not a big fan of.Xi An Famous Foods in NYC is way better. Their lamb base is much more spicy and has more flavor.Wish they come to Boston one day. This ain’t it.

Scott LeBoeuf: Went there for my first time and ordered a small Chicken Parm Sub, got food poisoning the next morning.Kid-friendliness: very rude staff, not a place for kids.Parking: no parking.Wheelchair accessibility: not wheelchair accessibleDietary restrictions: the place is chaos, there is no way they respect food allergies and there is no way to keep an eye on whos making your sandwich.
James Monroe: My favorite lunch spot. Sub + chips + soda. Can't go wrong with any of the options. Love this place!!
Benjamin Wanjura: A large sandwich feeds two people, amazing stuff. Seems to be a local favorite, and I can see why.

Anuj Potdar: We reached 5 min before closing. Good food, the guy making the sandwich was very well manared and polite. But the woman on the counter acted as if I was asking her to give the food away. She started yelling at the guy just for allowing me to eat the sandwich I bought from there inside the Cafe!I don't care if she is the owner or the manager, this kind of behavior is pathetic! The irony is that a white guy was having his lunch peacefully in there with no problem from her. Racist! Love the food here, but would never go back or recommend anyone to go here.
Matt Robbins: A Boston Institution.

Deb: 1st timer. Place is overrated ! Went specifically for lobster roll. It came wrapped in paper, was size and shape of a Taco Bell taco! It only had a couple of lobster chunks, mostly was shredded, mashed lobster and it was partially frozen!! The middle was still icy. $22. Would never drive the distance to go here again. In season, 99 Restaurant has better and they also offer it 2 ways, hot with butter or chilled with little mayo and fries come with it.
Patti Waran: Best service.I was a first time customer here and had some questions, the lady cashier took time to explain to me with great attitude and recommended me some dishes.I ordered for 3 people for take away :2 bowls of clam chowder, 1 small clam strip, 1 small clam bellies and fried scallop. The waiting time was around 5-7 minutes and all of the food I ordered was fresh and delicious. I will come back for sure in the future.Parking: Large open parking lot.
gail: First I asked how big there whole belly clams were to 2 different people then I requested for big whole bellies that said they had but no it's not what I got very disappointed I'll stick to Williston Beach to get my big belly fix

Kathleen: Sullivan's 'Sullys' is a take out place only, with typical fast food, burgers, hot dogs, chili, great FFs, but they also serve seafood - clams, lobster roll, some salads and wraps and soft serve ice cream. Sully's at castle island is iconic. It's not really an island. Fort Independence is there, walking path, playground, lots of places to bring a lunch and picnic, tons of benches/tables to sit at, small beach area for kids. Dogs are allowed on leash. Lots of families, joggers, bikers, walkers and people enjoying the water view and having a bite to eat. A happy place and it's free (not sure about the fort but I know they do limited tours), usually plenty of parking during the week. Gets crowded during peak times.

Elizabeth Ogando: I ordered a veggie burger and they gave me a cheeseburger. I realized about this when I started eating it. I asked them if what I’ve gotten was a veggie burger and they told me that I ordered a cheeseburger. That was the moment I got very mad at them because I have been vegetarian for the last 10 years and there’s no way I can order a cheeseburger. It’s not even in my vocabulary anymore. What annoyed the most is that they are trying to say that is my fault! I understand that they can get confused with many orders but saying that it was my fault! That’s not acceptable! Giving meat to someone who is vegetarian is bad in many levels PLUS blame them!! That’s out of the equation!
