Patrick Horrigan: Tread cautiously and get a second opinion! I scheduled a chimney cleaning and inspection with Best Chimney Services. They came to my home and told me I needed to do thousands of dollars in upgrades immediately. I got a second opinion and was told Best Chimney Services was trying to upsell me. Fred Collins: Matt Enegess and his crew did a lousy job in their overpriced attempt to address a leak in our chimney. In fact, they caused even more problems. Not only was Mr. Enegess aggressively rude, demanded immediate payment before inspection, but he never actually fixed the leak. Nancy: Like many on this site, we were encouraged to contact Best at the end of last year to repair a decades old, drafty unsafe chimney as they were the ‘experts’. I wish I could say we got to a complete quote on the job. Five months after my initial inquiry, four technicians later, numerous emails & phone calls … & many excuses I gave up! Lynne Tara Sweeney-Anderson: They assessed the job and rebuilt our 100 year old chimney stack, the leaning tower. It was a 16 inches too high with crumbling mortal and leaning precariously. In two days the job was done, cleaned up, great assistants, quiet, respectful, prompt. Not cheap but I never want cheap, I want good and reasonable. I never chose the highest or lowest price, no guarantee either will be good. How we were treated made the difference. I had one company that I had worked with before and very well known. they would come from Canton for $250.00 to assess the job and if hired would NOT apply the consultation/assessment towards the job?! Lost their #. It is worth the peace of mind and few extra dollars with professional and nice people to do the work. Not so great on communication or payment options.Edit upon reply: Service person left a bill and it took me three weeks to mail the payment back (I was at the hospital and home with a newborn). Company claims to have tried calling me in an accusatory email I received. A simple reminder email would have been sufficient. Different people prefer different means of communication. Booking was done via email, but apparently they don't know how to use email for other purposes. I was contacted regarding this review in the same accusatory tone without any sort of apology or remorse. I would suggest the company try to employ kindness and understanding in their future business dealings if they would like a flawless reputation.

The crew came out and did inspection with pictures and explained what procedures could be performed with the prices to solve the problem. A short time later they came out and waterproofed the brick among other solutions and so far no more leaks during rain storms. Price was fair and results excellent and the workers/owner family were awesome!

The owner, Joe Albano, was a tech working for Northeast when we first met at our house in Wakefield. Several years later Joe acquired Northeast and became its owner/operator. Since day 1, I have found Joe, Brenda and their employees to be nothing short of excellent in every aspect of their business. They our prompt, courteous, proficient and absolutely thorough. Mary Kiely: Joe came out to inspect my chimney following a cleaning and inspection by another company. I was worried about the price of the repair the other company quoted. Joe did a careful inspection, and very respectfully, never once criticizing the other company, showed me what was left undone in the cleaning, and inaccurate in the quote for repair work. He was professional, respectful, and pleasure to talk with. A few months later his son Ben came to clean the oil burner flue. Ben was also lovely, respectful, professional. ddaybre: Downeast Chimney Sweep are the best, most honest in the industry! I did my own research before I hired them and came to the conclusion that if you want an honest assessment of your chimney and quality work, this is the company, and I was proven right. In fact, our oil company asked who we were using to inspect our flue, and I said Downeast. The oil company said good, in their 40 years in the oil business, Downeast is the only one they trust. Downeast came in, inspected, gave us an honest assessment of what we needed and didn't need, did a thorough cleaning, and cleaned up the area as if they were never here. They are terrific!
Randall Moore: Lewis and Ross are true professionals and have cared for our fireplaces for years. They do great work and the fireplace always comes out looking great for the coming fire season.
David Kissell: Found them very expensive, cleaned only one flu, did a small interior masonry repair and charged $350.00, The entire job start to finish including loading and unloading equipment took 55 minutes. Feel they could have thrown in the minor repair, $250.00 would have been fair, I guess they did a good job, but then how can I know for sure, other definitely getting estimates next time.
