Rock Spot Climbing: what do users think?
Holly Buehlmann: The staff were all super nice and there's a great array of climbing options!
Christin Gunning: Love their day pass deal. Great for occasional climbers like me.
Judy Park: Good place to have rock climbing and bouldering. The instructor explains for safety.
Cynthia Kinnan: Great place to come with kids. We had my son's birthday party here and it was great! We've also come for "regular" climbing and really enjoyed that too.
Tyler Simonds: Getting worse with time. I enjoyed it about a year and a half ago when I started going, but management is iffy. They took away the slack line and keep raising prices 👎
Schuyler Kitchin: I really enjoy this gym. The staff are kind and helpful, the atmosphere is very inviting and friendly. Good range of climbing types and difficulties, as well as other gym basics like a weight rack, treadmill, and more. Lots of opportunities for community and climbing development, as well as a well-stocked store.
Erin Kimball: It's a great rock climbing spot in the area. They redo the problems pretty regularly and have wide range for different ages and skill levels. I wish they offered camps and classes just a little bit younger than seven, but other than that this place is great.
R Curt: A1 climbing gym. Tons of problems for all skill pevels to keep anyone busy all day. While they do have some top rope (and maybe a couple leads?), this is primarily a bouldering gym. Their fairly large pro shop is also a +
Robert Sinnott: Very good for kids, great neighborhood.
Sharkbait In New England: Awesome place for indoor rock and Bouldering climbs! All staff are cool as a fan and very helpful!
Mia Holroyd: The rock spot climbing in Lincoln RI is absolutely the best. The service people at the place exceeded my expectations… Ben helped our family and he was incredibly patient with us … plus he delivered the safety and orientation for us in a really understandable way. What a great place …. We had so much fun too !
Nics3451: This gym is so much fun for bouldering. They have a good variety of different climbing styles and four caves - two that are deep for super fun and challenging routes. For top rope climbing, this location is probably good for beginners and kiddos. There are a number of auto-belays and actually quite a bit of wall for the size of the section they have it in. The walls, though, are probably only 25 feet tall.I highly recommend this gym for bouldering. The staff is awesome, they have great merch, and they stay open later then most. It's all wins for me.
marin MAZERES: Perfect if you like bouldering. Also a few self belay routes for top rope
Ivee L: Very well equipped gym even though it's a bit older. It has everything you need to have fun climbing and for training. It has a great varieties of features and climbs. Very nice staff. It has lot of hangboards, weights, bands, a spray wall, a treadwall, and some short TRs. I look forward to going back when I visit Boston next time.
Scott Neagle: this is the best gym in the Boston area if you're looking for a variety of climbs at all levels and a super fun vibe
Femi Koledoye: We loved it...Mad thrill
Alex: great place to go climbing. very friendly community and the staff are always a great help. if you have any questions you can ask one of the staff and theyll usually have an answer. try to go during the week, as the weekends seem to have a lot of college students.
Joseph Daniel: This location was just bouldering. The gym is in the middle of the floor not very organized. They have two large bathrooms with a shower in each. They use one of the showers for storage....why? The shower that is available is only open until 5pm and sets of the smoke alarm.
Nikhil Menon: Great staff and wonderful climbing gym with many problems for beginners as well as intermediate and advanced levels.
Zach Weagly: This is a nice place with a lot of boulder options. Top rope and lead routes are very limited, and the ceilings are quite short. You can complete three top rope routes off of one auto belay before switching to another. The staff was very kind and accessible on a Thursday night. If you're looking for an excellent gym to boulder, this is it. If you're looking for top rope or lead climbing, don't expect much.
Ritchie Vernon: I'm sorry I'm confused on this one I haven't climbed any rocks that I'm aware of except maybe the sidewalks of Boston which get Rocky sometimes I had knee surgery I might have walked up a hill but I'm really not sure what you're referring to? But I have been busy and about active the last few days invited to some singing places I'd love to share about! Next week is my Thursday surgery on my wrist which I damaged along other body parts may 2017 hopefully this is the beginning of things to come to write the wrongs of those things that happened in that unfortunate accident then God bless you all be safe from Boston! 😊🙏😀🇺🇦🇱🇷

Central Rock Gym: what do users think?
Max Lasky: I love CRG North Station. I just got into bouldering a little over a month and a half ago and this place has become like a second home. The energy and the facilities are incredible. I am so happy to have found this space.
Rudolf Reiter: Nice route setting
Allen H: $30 for day pass. Small gym but the sets flowed well and were pretty fun. Mostly static climbs and few dynamic sets. (I like dynamic sets) Spent about 2-3 hours and finished a dozen or so climbs before my hands turned raw. Gym feels tailored towards beginner/intermediate climbers - would need to be patient around people who were climbing for the first time that might not be aware of their surroundings. Everyone I interacted with was friendly and people mostly kept to themselves
Michelle Dao: Bouldering only gym. Best slab feature across all gyms in Boston. Not my style but my friends actively come here when slab resets.
Peter Chikov: Very nice bouldering gym. Interesting problems!
Alex Rosenfeld: It gud
Ana Guzman: LOVE this place!
Jodi Smalls: Awesome gym. Very happy I found this place!
Peter Storey: Nothing special for the price, especially if you're visiting from Europe. Relatively small, fine route setting, bizarrely no changing rooms besides a big disabled toilet.
Matthieu Mounier: Salle de bloc en plein centre de Boston, petite mais sympa. Profils variés et ouvertures efficaces mais manquant de diversité et de créativité.Hyper cher pour des Européens (28$ ...) mais c'est le tarif à Boston
Lukas: Very nice gym. Better than Boston Bouldering Project for actual bouldering. I liked the hold selection, the use of volumes, and the varied setting. Interesting problems and they really make the most out of the space. There‘s even a phone charging station and skin care stuff, too.
Anya Hsu: As an casual climber who usually top ropes, this place is a nice an accessible spot with usually friendly staff and nice climbs for amateurs in bouldering. While small, there’s a variety of climbs and chill atmosphere. However, I encountered a really disappointing experience. I really don’t leave bad reviews and let things slide, but this was really weird. So, because I rarely boulder, I usually come in with my friend who will sign me in as a guest. At this time, our mutual friend was climbing for the first time at this gym and needed to sign a waiver. A front desk staff asked her if she had already signed online - and he was visibly annoyed when she said she hadn’t. If we had known that one should pre-sign before going, we would’ve. I didn’t encounter this type of attitude when I came in for the first time and hadn’t signed the waiver.Fine - if he had to deal with a lot of waivers today, it’s fine to be a little annoyed. However, he continued on with his annoyed attitude by making snide remarks to our mutual friend and brushed off any questions, making her uncomfortable. Me and my friend didn’t know what to do. As we were leaving to go climb, he called after my friend and said “I hope you read the tips” in a mocking tone. I know this is not the acceptable behavior of staff as his coworker gave him a look and I heard the guy say “what? Sometimes I just don’t have the patience”.It’s understandable to have a bad day, but to not only start but to continue making snide and uncomfortable remarks to new climbers isn’t the most awesome. I’d give this place a four star, but that experience kind of sucked. It usually is a pretty nice place if you avoid this guy.
Ankita Shirahatti: Fantastic bouldering gym in downtown Boston, managed by a fantastic team. Would recommend CRG Boston to ALL my friends!
Ian Yoo: Amazing place to climb for recreation/amateur level climbers. Tends to be a bit small of a gym for serious, competitive climbers. But for those looking for something fun in the city indoors, this place will have plenty of different ‘problems’ for you to climb on. There is a small fitness/weight training section as well, for strength training and warming up. Day pass is a bit costly with shoe rental fees, so I recommend purchasing your own shoes, and getting a monthly pass, if you plan on climbing more than twice a week. You will get to meet all kinds of different friends too!
Yahiya H: Very fun all you can climb buffet for bouldering
Chris Leone: Great facility. Great route setting. Sometimes gets a little crowded on weekends.
Thomas Dybdahl Ahle: Small, expensive, no shirt policy
Andrew DeChristopher: Best setting in the region. Slab, decent overhang, and lots of vertical wall space makes for plenty of opportunity for training all around.
Nick Kerpan: Friendly staff, solid COVID precautions and safety measures, and a wide variety of creative routesetting. Having an area for lifting and stretching is an added bonus
Jesse Wallace: A small bouldering location.Great staff, walls are set well, highly recommended.
Ethan C: Always some great boulders, frequently reset, fun part of town

MetroRock Climbing Center: what do users think?
BHAMA: Climbed, laughed, had lots of fun and unforgettable memories!
Hailee OKeefe: This facility does not take belay testing seriously whatsoever. My instructor was 100% focused on her dog throughout my exam because there was someone in the gym who was afraid of dogs. At the time I was belaying someone who weighed a lot more than I. The instructor was purely focused on her dog “Princess” and did not look at my technique. Although I believe it was due to the focus on her pet, she was rather aloof overall.
Charles Klauder: Great gym with excellent and friendly staff. Love to spend an afternoon on the auto belays or belaying for my children. Climbing is a great mind body activity for all ages.
Peter Chikov: Awesome place, top rope, lead climbing, and an expansive bouldering area.
MERLIN “Merlin Zeewiz”: Loved our experience! Friendly service and gym, must try!
Casey Lu: Absolutely the best climbing gym and best climbing community in Boston (especially if you want to do ropes climbing). All the staff are very friendly and they have an epic lead wall in the back. Sometimes competitions are hosted and then you can try the climbs after. And sometimes they even host more community events like screening the Olympics. A huge facility and the programming like adult team is really welcoming if you’re looking to sharpen your technical skills and improve your climbing ability (I especially love that Erica and Adriana are the coaches and Adriana is such a great setter). Cannot recommend making it out to metro more
Christopher Covello: Critical:Communication,Professionalism
Thida Golff Pornkittichot: We had a good time for the birthday party there. @coppycake
iris hale: I loved this place. My favorite climbing place in Boston, will be returning!
Christian Adams: Sweet gym with easy going staff and crowd. 140+ routes with all levels.
Dan Sweeney: I have climbed at all of the gyms in the Boston area and MetroRock is my favorite! The walls are well-featured (corners, chimneys, cracks, roofs, slab, sustained, arch), textured (smear away!) and long. The route-setters are creative and provide a nice variation in types of climbs, and the grading is representative of outdoor climbing in the area. The atmosphere is welcoming- you can be a beginner or go with your family and feel comfortable here. The staff are friendly, I never feel rushed or like I'm annoying with a question or request. Overall a very down-to-earth place where you can have fun and improve your climbing
J T: Beautiful big walls. Plenty of routes. Go in the morning if you want the whole place to yourself!
Nicolai Cauchy: i love the unpretentious, slightly grungy, typically MIT-geekish ambiance. There's a large variety of routes up to half a pitch long, lead, topr rope, or self belay. The routes are more spread apart than at Central Rock Gym in Watertown, and there is almost a full grade of difference in the rating between Metro (5.10a) and CRG (5.9). Slack line, yoga studio, workout and stretching rooms, and to top it all, a Wonderfully nice and accommodating staff always available !
Sampson Wong: Great place. It's a big setup and really tall climbs. They also have a rope course.
Nate Bryce: Great facility! Good variety of top rope, lead, bouldering. The certification process for top rope and belay isnt good. If you don't have climbing experience, you will have to attend a pre-determined intro to climbing class, which sucks if you decided to go on a whim. The certification is them handing you a harness, watching you put it on, then making you tie your knot, and hook up with up your belay device. Very basic, and necessary, I completely understand!. But you are not allowed to practice before hand, or have someone teach you how to do it. They just watch you and fail you, and say you have to test again next time, OR come back when we have our class and take it. IfIthey see you practicing beforehand then they automatically fail you. I am not against certification to ensure safety. However there should be a better process to teach new climbers AFTER they already pay for entry, and rentals to tell them they can only Boulder or do the 8 auto belay climbs in the gym.
TrainsRCAnd More: Nice facility, great staff.
santiago funes: Best rock climbing in the Boston area, except location. Color Coded rocks, enough climbs to keep you climbing for a month, all skill levels. Nice staff and everything you need to climb, definetly go (With a car)
NoFate247: Great place for indoor rock climbing. Tall ceilings, bouldering, top rop, lead climbing, and auto-belay stations. Also a small weight room and a section to train your grip. Been going there for years and always leave with a smile on my face.
Thomas Meehan: The climbs are fun! he staff is friendly 😃
Tomas Javier de Tuya: Awsome
Julie W: Clean, organized, and they have something for everyone. I like how this place is organized and caters to a wide range of ages and skill levels. I visited for the first time and was greeted by two sweet doggies, filled out a waiver, rented a harness, and got a 5 min tutorial and was on my way to climbing for the first time. The auto baley device is very safe and also fun to use. Sometimes there is a line but not one that is unbearable. There are also plenty of shorter walls for climbing, without baleys but with giant red mats to catch your fall.It is a great form of exercise but I have a newfound appreciation for climbers (especially those who can climb in an inverted position!). I am sore in places I did not know existed!

Central Rock Gym: what do users think?
Jimi: Small but creative
Seth Jones: If you want to send hard, Cambridge is the place to be.
G F: Grading at this location feels more challenging than other gyms. As more of a beginner climber I felt there weren’t many routers for me.
Jack Smith: They don't have chalk bins here. Unlike the other bouldering-only crgs in the area
Alex Cole: Bestq CRG weight room. Graded like it's outdoor bouldering so come prepared
Yorgo Kennos: The best bouldering gym i’ve been to. Fantastic training facility, competition bouldering section. Sick spray wall, tension board, moon board and campus section. My go to gym when i’m not working on endurance, absolute gem of a gym.
Auj Welhof: Crg harvard is so fun!!! By far the best branch of crg. The staff are so welcoming and nice and now remember me by face and name. So much to do there, frequent updates and routes for many skill levels. I have had the best time there. They also have a variety of other workout equipment. would highly recommend going there is you want to try bouldering or already boulder and want to have a good time.
Michelle Dao: Hardest gym in the area. I have a hard time going here as down climbs are scarce and it’s bad for my injuries to jump down from so high. I’ve also slipped and fallen in bad ways here out of a multitude of reasons, but that’s inevitable in rock climbing. Competition slab is always a draw for my friends.
Julian Han: Staff are all super kind, and the gym itself has a lot of great climbs that are always being rotated in and out.
Matthew Gallagher: Best CRG in Boston.
Max Mitchell: the have rocks. And the let climb. Many rocks good yes😎Update: still has rocks
Seth Jackson: Best training area in New England (el dojo is a close second.) expensive, but you get what you pay for. Heavily trafficked. Rough and tough. Expect to fail early and often and get strong.Managed well, great staff, and the best setting I’ve come across in New England. You are only going to find it better if you go outside. They have a tension board (adjustable training wall.) and a moonboard 2016 with NEW HOLDS.Have a blast.
Kendall Bell: Great gym, great setting and great workout room. This gym has the hardest grading out of the CRGs I've been to. Be prepared to be humbled. V4s at glastonbury or Framingham are more like v3s at cambridge
Alex Bauer: I love climbing here. You'll find friendly staff and routes that are changed regularly
Guy Bresler: The best gym on the planet. The setting is amazing and the community is second to none.
Lincoln Craven-Brightman: My favorite gym in the area. Bouldering only, but damn do they have boulders. Great weight room and training facilities, and a sauna to boot
Josh Zotter: Clean facility. Exclusive bouldering facility with a large weight-lifting/training area. I feel these routes were harder than watertown routes. The mens locker-room facility could use some TLC and deep clean for the years of sweat.
Emily Mann: This gym is great, the staff are wonderful, and the problems are challenging and fun.
Eric “Orion” Olberding: Really cool staff. A good variety of problems with frequent switching. A spray wall, adjustable crack, hang boards, a mini gym, a sauna. The problems are harder than some of the other gyms I've been to relative to the grade, but grades don't matter that much (to me) anyways. Pick something that's just at the limit of your range!
Analia Silvia Piqueras: It's was a fascinating experience & so funny.
Marcel Damiano: This is the hardest of Central Rock's gyms but has a good 20-30s vibe with no kids which is a plus. Pretty big weight gym too. Bouldering only but always some really good problems to solve

Brooklyn Boulders Somerville: what do users think?
Jackson Burns: It's a corporate mega gym with all the benefits and drawbacks. Expensive, but worth the price. They are actually expanding their facilities, which is a good sign and keeps me wanting to pay dues. Go at off hours if you are a serious climber, oversubscribed horrendously otherwise. The good:- If you are new to climbing, this is a great place to get started since they have lots of space to try everything out.- If you are an experienced climber, they reset frequently enough that you won't get bored and they have the best accessory equipment of any gym I have ever visited (weights, kilter board, hangboards, etc.).- The hours are AMAZING. The only gym I have ever seen that opens early, great for climbing before work. The bad:- Basically turns into a daycare on the weekends with unsupervised kids running all over the place. Get there early if you want to get a decent session in.- Expensive, just like the rest of Cambridge. Day pass with rentals was almost $30.- Circuit grading on the boulders (though you might not care about this one):Most climbs are all crimps, all pinches, etc. with no variety. Sometimes you will endlessly project a V3-5 and then flash the V6-8 right next to it. Some of the climbs are just egregiously reach-y. Thankfully with so many boulders set you can always find something to work on, but it's annoying regardless.Unrelated to the actual facility itself - this is the SINGLE CHALKIEST gym I have EVER climbed at. Seriously, there are other gyms in the area that have those bulk bowls of chalk out in the bouldering area that are STILL less chalky than this place. People just layer it on here and I have no idea why. Routinely have to brush holds that are just caked in a thick layer of chalk to the point that they have zero texture. Truly baffling.
Yang Sun: Excellent experience!
Carter Chamberlain: UPDATE: Started with a disagreement with their shoe policy regarding minimalist footwear, but the managers were very responsive and updated the policy to include sock-shoes, Vibrams, etc.I haven't experienced the full facility yet (that's a good thing as I'll explain) since I'm still building up strength on the bouldering wall and haven't taken the auto-belay training yet. The training is included in the membership and rope-assisted climbing is two-thirds of the facility, but that smaller third is more than enough to keep me occupied for several weeks! They even re-set the climbs every couple weeks, so you can absolutely progress at your own pace of skill-development.
Наталья и Ася: Birch wall - looks nice, but you can't smear those. Smelly and poorly ventilated. The washroom faucets are so economical with water, it's impossible to wash one's hands. Menstrual tampons in the men's room.
Matthew Rollender: Edit: BP staff has reached out to me about this and apparently this is a priority of theirs to fix. There is a serious problem with over enrollment here. During the week, there are so many people with day passes and/or teams having practice sessions that it is nearly impossible to have a productive session at the gym. There either needs to be1. Less generous day pass discounts.2. Higher prices for monthly membersDue to this, there are better gym options in metro Boston. The overcrowding makes in unenjoyable for first timers and full members like myself. It's a bummer since the route setting is really good! You just won't get to climb them unless you come during an off hour
Lucas Zsolnay Machowinski: Used to be awesome but then Boston bouldering project came in and made it boring, they got rid of all the super cool artwork.
John Rincón: Day care that’s also a climbing gym.New ownership seems to have just exacerbated previous issues.Filled with largely unsupervised young children from noon forward, massively oversubscribed during peak hours, and prices have gone up despite much of the space now being closed for construction. It’s main perk is it’s location, but for those with car access or who primarily boulder, I would look elsewhere
Harrison Frye: Awesome facility, gear and they have great snacks there, including shakes, Kate's real food bars, and other protein bars.
Natasha Rosenberg: FYI when I visited on 2/17/23 several of the 1st & 2nd floor spaces & rooms had active construction going on, with paint smell & power tool sounds throughout. They kindly allowed me to save the day pass I paid for for a future visit.
Yuri Sem: + Great climbing and bouldering hall- Reception was very cold- Staff was unfriendly towards people which are not from the US
Laura Owens: I used to love this gym before they were bought by bouldering project. Since then, it's become much more of a bouldering gym. The bouldering walls are reset two walls per week while the to prope walls are reset one wall per week at best (three ropes have been reset in the last 3+ weeks). They're now planning to decrease the number of rope walls. It seems like a fine gym for bouldering but I would not recommend it for top rope/ lead.
Jacques Fordy: Good amenities, routes are refreshed regularly, crowded on weeknights
Isaiah Rojas: reat community of people, great workouts, and a great space.
Napo O'Brien: Nice bouldering gym. The bouldering is two áreas. One downstairs that replicates a tall bouldering competition wall and a smaller and shorter bouldering wall upstairs. Good amount of problems to keep you busy for many sessions.Setters are very creative and use the wall inclination very well.Rope walls are great. They have plenty of top rope and lead only routes.Friendly staff. Clean restrooms and showers.
Valentina Alvelais: The place looks cool, was very much looking forward to trying out a class which was advertised as free on mindbody app but soon arriving found out it was not. I think the staff lacks the customer service expertise, as the guy in the counter didn't even acknowledge mistake on their part and didn't let me take the class for free as advertised despite going all the way there. Instead he wanted to charge the full gym day's worth. Shame they lack focus on the customer.
Christopher Lew: Came here with a friend using his visitor pass. I believe this place used to be called Brooklyn Boulders, but they have rebranded in whichever city they are in. There are a variety of climbing activities besides bouldering like top rope, which requires a certified belaying expert.A very friendly and opening atmosphere. Everyone was kind and courteous. The difficulties were clearly mapped out, and I didn't think any run was unfair.I am a beginner climber, and my experience was very positive. The routes are changed fairly regularly on a round robin basis, so there are also new routes to try.
Honest Abe: Fun
Nayara Leite: The staff was very attentive to us. Being a beginner made our experience outstanding. We were comfortable and had a lot of fun!
Alfred Wahlforss: Pretty crazy how they can remove all boulders at the same time for a couple of days
rohit nayak: Amazing place, but unaffordable for students.
William Spidaliere: Great rock climbing gym

Central Rock Gym: what do users think?
Joel Dufour: Pretty good climbing. Calm environment. No cardio equipment, minimal space to stretch and do basic non-climbing exercises. Disgusting brewery smells creep through the walls sometimes and stick on your clothes after you leave. Walls are modern way-too-tall highball style with low probability moves seemingly always at the very top. Recipe for exploding knees. It is actually possible to set routes way less tall that are still fun and challenging. I know - Crazy!
Erin Riley: Most expensive gym I've ever gone too and definitely the worst quality. You're better off going to Metro Rock in Littleton it's amazing, large top roping and bouldering sections, clean, well lit, and cheaper. Central rock's pictures need to be updated because the holds are now all old and walls are worn and gross. The lighting is also so dark. There is also barely any room in this place and it's only bouldering. They also do not have a good range of route levels. This place is not for kids and not really even for beginners or intermediate level. I don't know how this place justifies their pricing compared to other gyms.
Michelle Dao: Gym connected to brewery. They come up with novel ideas to engage with the brewery like flash it Wednesdays but it also closes down often for events so make sure to keep up on their social if you’re planning to go. They have some fun feature but I wouldn’t consider it for a home gym.
Sandeep Bhagyawant: Overpriced for day pass.. and all holds are old.. probably 10 years old design. The world has moved on. It's a big gym though.I am giving 3 as a benefit of doubt.
Karolos Arapakis: Cool bouldering gym!
Sandra Hutchins: Excellent gym, good equipment and well maintained.
Alex Ashley: We’re here every week, so might as well leave a review! CRG Waltham has quickly become our go-to bouldering spot as Watertown locals who try to avoid the bigger crowds at Watertown on weekday evenings. With great, grippy walls and new climbs each week, there’s always something new to project here. Staff are super friendly (special shout-out to Alec!) and are always happy to provide tips or simply chat. I wish they were still open on weekends! Of course, having Mighty Squirrel next door is an extra bonus ;)
Paul Dunbar: Started here with no experience, they had me in shoes and on the wall in a flash, plenty of help for a newbie. I've kept coming and they've been great, highly recommended.
Melanie Alexander: THIS place is NOT for beginners. Look at all the reviews ... most of the positive reviewers are experienced climbers. Based on how they treat you, their policies, and other factors, I would have to say it is terrible for beginners. First, the "trial" is promoted as a 3-hour experience, but the lesson is only a bit longer than an hour and then you are "on your own." You could have a staffer manage your ropes, but you would have to "be a member for that" (how could you be a member if you are taking the trial class?) Second, you MUST sign up with a friend if you are going to get any value for your 3 hour experience (but there is nothing to point this out). I see another reviewer booked late at night, so only got the hour, but if I were this gym I would not take reservations for that class any later than two hours before close (so the customer can get value). Third, I asked if I could climb with my daughter, to avoid leaving her alone after the hour, and though there was space in the class they refused me because they were "too busy". Fourth, the electronic reservation made online did not populate to the gym, so they had to add them manually. Finally, I asked for a refund, for a class she NEVER attended. After three requests, first in person (at the desk before the class) and twice by email (to the manager), the only response I have was "no" (again too busy). I get that Covid has made things more challenging for all, but this isn't a supply chain problem or staffing issue. It would not take much to accommodate the customer and/or be kind and understanding. Do NOT go here if you want to start learning how to climb.
Andy Huynh: Great climbing gym. I think the routes set here are the best out of any CRG in Mass.
Anne Boyle: My kids were excited to check out this place late one weeknight. It wasn't too busy and was clean. We went at 8pm and were charged for a full day per kid (teen) for 1 hour of climbing (they close at 9pm). I guess we won't go late again but the kids liked it and would go back. $24/ per hour seems a little steep for an hour.....there's no harness/belay, just the free climbing walls. Shoe rental was included.
Charles Romero: For what it is (a relatively small bouldering gym), it's pretty good. They have slab, vertical, and overhanging walls and a good diversity of climbing styles (i.e. setting). As others have commented, their grading is soft (on average, I suspect it's ~2 grades over-rated: V5 @CRG Waltham - V3 +/- 1 outdoors, at least when I went). If you regularly climb V7, this will have some fun stuff yet, but it may not suffice as your regular gym. (Also, it's small enough and busy enough that it's probably not suitable to training, e.g. 4x4s). However, below this level, climbers seem to be having a lot of fun. The softer grading also means that beginners can meet success and not be stonewalled by a V0.For me, the highlight (5th star WRT review) was the welcome that I received (on my first visit there) by the staff (Steve). He was friendly and engaging (not just about climbing at that location, but other CRG locations and more broadly).COVID-19 protocols were as good as I can envision for a gym (happy to see these precautions taken). The glass window shared with Mighty Squirrel is also very cool and unique.
Hosh Grassia: One of the smaller Central Rock Gyms but still delivers a decent variety of climbs to hack away at. There tends to be easier V5-V8 here than other places, but they're still fun to try. The walls are very gritty which is nice for those slab climbs. Oh and there's a giant window separating the place from the brewery right next door, so be prepared to have an audience.
Derek White: Good boulders and a decent variety of climbing styles
Karla Weaver: Great bouldering!Routes for all levels.
Karan Tyagi: Amazing place to start off bouldering.Great COVID safety practices in place.
Shea Mizuno: Probably my favorite bouldering gym. Small, and clean, with some fun and interesting routes. Can get a crowded during its busy hours. Send, and get a nice pump before heading next door for a drink (or two) at Mighty. Great date or friend outing.
Isaiah Milgroom: Such a great bouldering gym! Great atmosphere and community. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable.
Joshua Grant: We love this place. They will even play Crowbar if you ask nicely. Great and frequent setting of problems. Good variety of grades and features, and they run tournaments and contests nearly every month. The staff are awesome and friendly and frequently cheer climbers on as well as offer beta if asked. It's part of a large network of local gyms which allows you to climb all over New England and New York for one price. Check it out!
Sasha Liang: Nice spot and problems changed out regularly
Stormer Santana: Pretty cool CRG. The gym itself is pretty small; I believe actually about 2 feet shorter than the Boston location. I was able to climb all projects VB-V4/5 in about 2 hours. The coolest part of this gym is how it is connected to the Might Squirrel brewery. Full glass wall allows beer drinkers spectate climbers and vice versa. Great collaboration.

Central Rock Gym: what do users think?
Lisa Vidal: Good place, nice staff, dog friendly.
kathleen: Fabulous gym, great staff! Super helpful.
Michelle Dao: My favourite CRG gym if it wasn’t so far from me. They allow dogs so its a great win win. I find really interesting projects here and love their community events.
Michelle Li: This was my first time going to the Central Rock Gym, in Randolph. (2-14-21) I came along with friends. We walked into the gym and it was very CROWDED!! (not very covid friendly!) We had bought groupons for this trip (SUCH A GREAT DEAL). Kevin signed us in and stated I, myself, did not have a waiver signed, although I had done it before we got here. Kevin said we could settle down and put our belongings in the cubbies. We received NO FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS from ANY of the employees, they had us waiting there with another party, and came up to us asking what we were doing... We were standing there for at least half and hour, them acting as if they gave us further instructions. Kevin assumed that we knew what to do from Ryan, when in reality there was a MISCOMMUNICATION between Ryan and Kevin because Ryan ONLY told us to sign ONE of the waivers. After the orientation, we were waiting around again for the belay test. Stephanie was the instructor for the belay test and the instructions were VERY vague and unclear for this BASIC test. Which is why the test took like A HOUR LONG. Leaving us to rock climb for only thirty minutes... We were belaying for 25 minutes and 5 minutes bouldering until Stephanie kicked us out because the gym was at full capacity. We were promised two hours, by reservation. In the end we didn’t get the full experience because most of the time we were waiting around and getting tested and SIGNING WAVIERS!! We were planning to come back to this gym BUT it was SUCH a waste of time and money!
Kate LaCore: Wonderful staff and facility. They guided us during the bouldering comp. Climbs are interesting. .
Morgan Woodward: Felt very unwanted and Unaccepted. This is the first time I’ve ever get been to a rock climbing gym EVER! My boyfriend has been going for close to around 2 years and needed some refreshments on a few things! He has been to this gym several times with no issues at all! Today we went to climb for the first time together and he had to get belay certified again. Reih, the assistant manager, was trying to show us what we needed to know in order to start climbing making sure he understood all the steps and wasn’t missing any. I have to say this was the worst instructional I’ve ever been a part of!!! Reih was extremely hostile and judgemental towards my boyfriend. She would ask him to show her a knot or how to belay and then ask him follow up questions when he didn’t have the answer to them she stood there and stared at him until I had to tell her he doesn’t know the answer! I totally understand safety and policies are important and necessary but I would never in my life want to be taught the way Reih was teaching us it almost seemed like a burden and annoyance to her!!! She was very clearly making my boyfriend feel stupid which he is far from, by constantly criticizing him instead of just showing him the correct way. I did not feel it was a comfortable learning experience or environment. I wish someone else would have been there to teach us. Maybe my first experience would’ve been different.
A.J. MacQuarrie: First time rock climbing and this gym was super fun.
Nikolai Yinger: Everybody is extremely nice and supportive. The sport is good, but the community is what makes it great.
Mike Dale: Finally got down to the Randolph location and it was worth the drive! Lots of top rope and lead, good size bouldering area with a big cave section, and the workout area is as impressive as any of the CRGs I've been to. They have a dedicated kids room which could be awesome for those who need it; apparently they host parties. The photos help, but I'd say overall this gym is slightly smaller than the Stoneham location, but similar in offerings.
Revital Bronstein: This is a big place with all levels climbs.
Anna Jackson: This rock climbing gym is so wonderful it impacted my decision about where my new apartment would be. The staff is genuine and friendly. The space is clean, and the staff clearly take pride in the facilities. The overall atmosphere, staff, and route setting on the bouldering wall are so superior, that I visited three other climbing gyms, one of them a central rock, and couldn’t believe how much I missed CRG Randolph. I cannot say enough good things about this place.
Tony Eccles: Friendly staff, fun bouldering area. Parking can be tough when it’s crowded in the evenings / afternoons, but there is a large overflow lot adjacent to the facility so no worries.
Tadeusz Witczak: One of best CGR location - great routes and problems!
Matt Smith: I love climbing here
Abner Gerome: Plenty of parking.,. friendly and knowledgeable staff...wide open spaces... clean bathrooms several rock climbing levels... definitely need to visit.
Linda Liang: We visited Central Rock Gym in Randolph last weekend with 3 kids (age 6, 7 and 13) who had zero experience for a one-hour staff-belay session. I called to make the reservation only two days prior but Jake who answered the phone went out of his way to help us ask if any staff could come into work early that day to accommodate us - super helpful and kind! We also arrived 10 minutes late to our session, but Emily, our instructor, totally didn't mind and was really professional and nice to the kids throughout the session. She also offered to stay late because we started our session late (due to our own fault), which was much appreciated! We will come back to do more sessions! Thank you for such great experience!
Nhat Nam Trinh: I brought my son, now 8 years old, in for the summer camp. He liked it, so I signed him up for the Climbing Club program. My son enjoys the place and asks to go himself; no pushing from me needed. The staff, the people, the atmosphere are nice there.I think climbing is really good for young kids. It develops the whole body, and the reaching and pulling actions are good for posture.
skholandi: I walked into this gym extremely excited because it looks awesome/super clean and my first time. I was greeted by a young man who was super kind. I didn’t know there was a mask mandate, but I did have a mask on me. Unfortunately, two females behind the desk, one had colorful hair were EXTREMELY rude. They asked me to put my mask on, so I did and I wear a hijab so I can’t put it on perfectly because I’d have to go to the womens bathroom to put the straps behind my ears. The mask was perfectly fine on my face it covered my nose, the sides weren’t completely glued to my face, because I’d have to adjust the straps which is what I was going to do after I paid. The girl with colorful hair asked me to go to the bathroom right now, in the rudest manner, to adjust the straps. Mind you everyone is 10 feet apart from me, so it could wait till I paid. I know I wasn’t over-reacting because both my friends were there and mentioned her aggression towards me. I went to the entrance to quickly adjust the straps instead. I tried to adjust it without taking my hijab off, but I noticed through the small window her and the other female at the front desk starring at me and not looking away. My friends and I ended up leaving because at that point Karen and her friend were treating me like a criminal because they couldn’t wait two minutes till I paid to go adjust the straps. The guy at the front tried to lessen the tension. In regards to the girl with colorful hair, either discrimination is her thing or she’s queen of being grumpy/likes to feel like she has authority. In conclusion, the gym seems awesome even though I didn’t get to try it out. The best part is my friends weren’t even covering their noses with their masks. The guy at the front was extremely friendly though and if it weren’t for the rudeness of both females id give this place a 5 star.
Shaquille Letts: Positive:Quality
Jake Hemond: Great route setting and a a lot of cool options for climbing as well as weight room & yoga area. Really enjoyed my time here
Emelyn Chiang: Positive:Quality,ValueA great gym! Plenty of really fun and creative boulders and some great top rope and lead climbs as well! I appreciate the yoga and fitness classes included with the membership. Love being able to access all their other locations as well!

Rock Spot Climbing: what do users think?
DSG sniper: Very good.Frank
Salman Kasbati: Great team building. Our leadership team went there to do some physical team building exercise. It was fun and exhaustive (for our hands). They have friendly staff who guides you throughout.Great for kids as well I imagine. Don't fear falling down - they have got it covered.Visited in Oct 2014.
Ken Sazama: We’ve always been big fans of Rock Spot! The staff are always very professional, kind, and knowledgeable. Our great experience continued even more this week when our 7 1/2 year old has been attending their rock climbing camp at the gym. The camp is a great combination of instruction in rock climbing, fun games, and time for art/hanging out. A great balance of structure in a relaxing atmosphere. A special shout out to Dan & Bill and all the instructors for making it a great experience for our son.
Kate Bosolango: Positive:ProfessionalismGot my skills honed here before going out to the real cliffs.
Irene D: This place is wonderful. Excellent experience; both with our daughter’s 8 year old birthday party a couple of years ago and then summer/vacation camps and weekly classes that both our kids have done since then. Clean facility and bathrooms with terrific staff who are friendly and focused on safety. I love the low ratio of instructors to students and how passionate they are about climbing!
BeantownEater: We came in for the night owl deal which is $10 after 10pm. The staff was helpful in explaining everything. He went over the equipment, safely and which parts that we were able to climb. We got a soild hour and half in. The place is run well. Not issues to record
Curt Carpenter: We celebrated my son’s 9th Birthday at Rock Spot yesterday. And I have to say they made entertaining, challenging and wearing out 16 very high-energy 3rd graders incredibly easy. They did everything so we could just show up and enjoy the fantastic space. Our group had three dedicated staff who knew how to get the kids engaged with top-notch and safe instruction. The party room up stairs was spacious and set up with table cloths, plates, cutlery, balloons and gift bags complete with t-shirts for everyone. They arranged for the pizzas that were actually quite good and not marked up ridiculously. In fact I don't think they were. They also can provide drinks and the cake. But we decided that was the least we could do. That said, everything was very reasonable compared to other venues we have celebrated at. Oh, and the communication from start to finish was one of the best experiences I have ever had. If you’re looking for a turnkey, stress free and fun birthday party for your kids I highly recommend Rock Spot.
Vanessa Sae-hee Burke: This space is nothing short of amazing! I am rather new to climbing but have found myself coming to this gym on a weekly basis and looking forward to it!The bouldering options are really fun and every week one section gets reset so there is always a new route to project! There are a lot of autobelays so you can climb alone but there are also a good amount of ropes to top rope with others! The staff here is absolutely beautiful~ they create such a welcoming community and are incredibly helpful, cordial, educated, and approachable! This gym has quickly become a second home and I highly recommend it to everyone~ from new to seasoned to experienced climbers!!
George Nguyen: BOULDERING: Every week, one (of six) section of the wall is reset, providing enough time to project and frequent fresh problems. There seems to be a good mix of difficulties for all levels.TOP ROPE: About 40% of the tope rope walls have auto-belays, which is great if you're climbing alone. They're not the tallest walls but I've never really had to sit around and wait for someone to finish as most people come to boulder.STAFF: This is definitely what separates this gym. They've been amazingly warm, helpful and welcoming — which really makes me, as a beginner, feel like I belong. It seems like the staff makes an effort to remember members' names and there's always someone around in case you need anything. Sometimes, I'll be on a wall struggling and, out of nowhere, I can hear one of the staff members shout encouragement at me. Cannot say enough nice things about them and how receptive they've been, especially towards my frequent suggestions.OTHER: M/W from 5pm-7pm or so is usually when the team kids are there, so it can be crowded during those times but they've been respectful to share the space and I regularly hear the coaches remind them that it is shared space. The lifting area has 430ish pounds of plates, one barbell and a bench, with limited dumbbells — the area overall is quite small but aside from the team kids, I've never seen anyone else use it. There are one or two cardio machines upstairs. T/Th are more of the adult crowd; other members I've spoken to at those times have been very nice. Weekends have been practically empty aside from the occasional birthday party. The store area has all the essentials but not a huge variety to choose from. There are M/W bathrooms and a changing room, but no showers. No lockers but enough cubbies for storage.
Mya Fonarov: It is really fun climbing with know harness
Mark Corsillo: Rockspot is great. Staff is super helpful, bouldering is great. Routes aren't refreshed super often, and there's often a lot of kids here, but if you come late night during the week it should be fine.
Dmitriy Kryukov: Good bouldering set up
marcus upshaw: This is not a comment about the rock climbing experience. I’ve never used their facility. However I have delivered food to this place on ten or more occasions in recent past. They always ask for timed delivery so no qualms about being fussy and demanding as to how the service is provided but when it comes to showing appreciation for my hard work it’s like they tell you with their action: “go screw”. They may have tipped me once after all those visits and that was probably just an ‘accident’ as the receiver was not the usual person. Then from the usual receiver at the front entrance counter I get this outright lie about “oh we handle the tip on the invoice...” Ha! They were paying by card at the time of delivery. It was quite obvious there was no deferred payment or invoice arrangement. The management and/or rank & file from my perspective were a bunch of un appreciative low class doosh bags. Sorry but if you don’t want to tip you should get off your backside and pick your food up. That would be what you call: ‘being decent’. Thanks, have a great day and as I like to say: have some class...if you can!
Erik Owens: Rock Spot is a terrific, relaxed gym. The atmosphere is friendly, they have a nice gear shop, free yoga classes, easy parking (and a short walk from the Reading commuter rail station). My son has been going there for four years and we know the place inside and out. They really do strive to welcome all ages and all talents, as their slogan goes.
Henry Boyd: I'm on team Rock Spot and it is always the highlight of my week. The staff is amazing and the routes are changed regularly, which keeps it exciting. I love the place and the atmosphere it creates.
David Fink: Did a Birthday there with my kids. Staff was VERY flexible, we changed the number of kids a few times with some cancellations and some additions. All the kids and adults had a great time.
Nancy Webster: Great place for someone who hasn't climbed in years. Nick was very patient re-teaching the belay and figure 8 knot. Will definitely recommend to friend and will be climbing here again
Dan de Angeli: I am big fan. Great way to spend a rainy day with your family
Alastair Bastian: Love rock spot's routes. Walls are a little short but not much can be done about that in that location
Jonathan Ho: I'm biased since this was the first gym I started climbing at but I love it. Lots of bouldering (think shorter climbing walls without rope with a mat flooring to absorb your fall) and with that, lots of topping out.Topping out: depends on who you are, but lots of rock gyms just have some tape at the top marking the last hold or place to put your hands, but this gym lets you climb over the wall (and then take a staircase down one side). Might be scary at first but feels great to finish a climb and get over the wall.I find the environment really chill and lots of friendly climbers. And it never seemed to be too crowded for me. You see all levels of climbers there.I give it a 5, but there are some things you might not like:On the weekends in the morning there can be a lot of little kids running around. The staff and parents do a good job of giving you space but there is the occasional overly excited kid who will run close by you :). Once you get used to it it's kinda nice seeing all the kids having a good time.Top-rope is pretty short. You probably don't want to go there if you don't like bouldering and want to climb some bigger walls. Nice for people scared of going too high though. There are still challenging routes, just closer to the ground. The gym's been around for a bit so holds can feel a bit more used/greasier than those newer gyms. I feel like it just adds to the challenge and keeps your hands from tearing apart, but you might like the idea of having stickier holds. Idk.All in all, I really like this place: relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff, interesting terrain and routes :).
Anthony Cataldi: Uniquely positive experience. Knowledgeable, friendly staff, routes change often, membership benefits are considerable (free yoga classes and guest passes, etc.), and the place is always kept clean and in good repair.
