Boston Drum Lessons: what do users think?
Deanna Saunders: Great lessons!
John Overstreet: I've been working with Curtis at Boston Drum Lessons for over three years and have had a great experience. We have worked on exercises and songs across multiple genres (jazz, funk, rock, and fusion), and I am frequently amazed by his ability to recommend small changes to my technique that instantly help me play something I had been struggling with. Beyond this, Curtis has taught me a lot of concrete strategies for developing my own creativity in crafting beats and fills. He is always recommending new drummers and other artists for me to listen to, which I think is key for figuring out how you want to develop as a player (and is also just fun). On the organizational side, he is flexible about rescheduling lessons when needed and is always punctual and communicative. BDL in general does a good job of keeping students informed about events, lesson options, changing policies, etc. I highly recommend them to any Boston area drummers looking to develop their skills!
Will McGrath: The instructors at Boston Drums Lessons are all talented musicians, great teachers, and super personable! I've learned so much from Curtis and saw immediate improvements in my playing. I would definitely recommend!
Kelly Cunniffe: The teachers at Boston Drum Lessons are dedicated, professional, and supportive. We know firsthand that Kyle has a wide variety of talents, and his open approach to sharing his knowledge with his students is evident. He is patent and encouraging yet pushes our son to challenge himself creatively. Our son has not only practiced his drumming skills but also learned about the various technical roles in music and has gained a ton of confidence while taking lessons from Kyle.We are very grateful to have found BDL!
Paige Turner: We have had a phenomenal experience with Boston Drums! Over the past couple years our son's skills and enjoyment for music has increased exponentially. We are not local, and have found the online capability for virtual lessons exceeded our expectations. Would highly recommend Boston Drums!
Jon Abrams: Kyle is great at teaching the drums. For beginners like me, he makes learning fun by balancing beginning to play music I’m interested in and enjoy, with helpful skill building. He’s patient and thoughtful. Highly recommend drum lessons with him.
Mike Davidson: These guys are top notch talent - a pleasure to work with and learn from! I hire them as studio drummers on projects I produce all the time and they always bring out the best in the music. 10/10 would recommend!
Elizabeth Clark Libert: My 7-year old son has been taking lessons with Josh for a month and is loving it. He's excited about his lesson, practicing more, and talks about the beats when listening to songs on the radio. Josh seems genuine, engaged, supportive and patient - a really warm and creative guy.I will note that the location is in the heart of Allston - so parking can be tricky (though I haven't had a problem yet - we will see once school starts back up), and it's a bit gritty. Very much though right in mix of the fun music scene of Boston.. just for little kids from the suburbs it might be a bit of a culture shock.
Sean Wilkinson: I have been taking lessons with Blaize for a little over 3 years now. I came in with relatively no drumming experience and 0 formal training and have made a lot of progress, which can largely be attributed to my lessons with Blaize.Aside from being a super nice, supportive, and all around great guy, Blaize is an extremely skilled drummer and an amazing teacher. The guys at BDL really care about their students and go the extra mile to make the lessons work for you and tailored to help you achieve your specific goals as a drummer. I actually moved out of Boston a year ago and am still doing lessons with Blaize online. If you’re looking for drum lessons in the Boston area look no further!
Alejandro Jimenez Jaramillo: I've been taking lessons with Blaize for a few weeks now and he has consistently exceeded expectations. Beyond just being a very warm and encouraging guy, Blaize did a great job assessing where I was at technically and then identifying key exercises and approaches to build a strong foundation. In addition to providing very detailed technique checks and suggestions, it's wonderful having a teacher that is willing to devote lesson time to higher level discussions about how to set up a good practice routine, how to make smart kit purchases over time, and general musicianship concepts (coordination, improvisation). I am certain learners of all levels will benefit from working with Blaize.
Russ Grossen: I started taking drum lessons during the pandemic about 7 months ago over Zoom. Kyle is an amazing teacher. I can’t wait for my first in person class tomorrow.
Peter M: My experience with Boston Drum Lessons has been very positive even though I started during the pandemic with remote lessons. Blaze Collard has a very organized lesson curriculum that keeps me engaged and excited about each meeting. Finally we got to be in the same room for lessons which made things easier for both of us. I am always challenged with material that has helped my growth in ways that only a good teacher/mentor can provide. Blaze's teaching skills are well beyond his years and I recommend him to anyone who wants to improve their ability to better themselves.
Rocky Chiu: Highly recommend Boston Drum Lessons. Josh has been a fantastic instructor. He is a skilled drummer and can customize lessons relevant to your level and interest. And he understands that you forget to practice sometimes!
Abby Detweiler: I highly recommend Boston Drum Lessons. Three and a half years ago I walked through the doors never having picked up a drumstick and I am still happily taking lessons. My instructor, Josh, is fantastic. He is patient and encouraging, an excellent teacher and a great person. My lessons are a high point of the week for me. All of the instructors at BDL are outstanding and they welcome students of all ages and experience levels. Only good things to say about Boston Drum Lessons!
Eli Boninger: I've been taking lessons with Josh for about 4 months now and he's great ! Despite my initial skepticism about remote drum lessons, he was really good at managing the zoom setup, and now that we're back in person, things feel even better. He's got all kinds of great exercises for pads and kit and will call you out on all your poor technique! He is full of passion for the drums and a total geek in the best way. Highly recommend these lessons
Rob Wood: My son has been taking lessons with the Boston Drum Lessons crew, and Blaize specifically, for six years... since he was five! We couldn't be happier with them, they are a perfect blend of professionalism, talent, caring, and fun. The team is very organized, creative in their approach to pedagogy and community building, and flexible to work with students in whatever style they want to pursue.
evonne kim: My son has been taking drum lessons with Blaize Collard through Boston Drum lessons for over a year now. Blaize is super patient, professional, accommodating, and a talented teacher. Weekly drum lessons are the highlight of my son’s week and his drum skills have improved so much in a year. We honestly feel so lucky to have found a drum teacher like Blaize.
Kaushik Rangarajan: Been learning from Josh for nearly 4 years now. He's a phenomenal drummer and a great teacher. If you want to learn from the best, look no further.
Simon Read: I have nothing but the highest praise for the team at BDL and in particular Josh. We have been having lessons together for a couple of years and I can honestly say I have enjoyed every lesson. Josh has improved my playing and opened my mind to diverse styles. It doesn't matter whether you are just starting or been playing for decades - I have no doubt Josh and the team can make you better and give you a passion for drumming that lasts.
Siddharth Parasnis: changed my whole life
Nichole Souther: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueI’ve been working with Kyle as a complete newbie and have loved it. Kyle is super knowledgeable, encouraging, and patient. I’ve had some brief interaction with the rest of the team and they were all really personable and detail oriented as well. 10/10 would recommend!

XTY Music Lessons Boston: what do users think?
Angela Grace: For nearly 10 years, Tat has been teaching our 3 kids various instruments including guitar, drums, piano & ukulele. He’s incredibly patient and simply amazing with children of all ages. Our kids look forward to weekly lessons and we are so fortunate for him to come to our home and enrich our lives! They have grown so much in their musical appreciation and music playing abilities!
Tanwin Chang: Music lessons are fun and effective with Tat the Musician. For six years he has provided gentle, intelligent guidance and a patient approach towards our son, who is a casual music learner. Our son (now a teenager) has persisted and developed a deepening interest, and that is a direct testament to Tat's encouraging style. Young learners that aspire to become professional will also find him to be a great choice, because Tat is a musician's musician. He is a master of many instruments, performed in multiple bands, and composes original music. His dedication and musicianship make him a role model for every learner. Plus, Tat is a super nice fellow!
jdisarcina: Tat is an everything you want in a music instructor...engaging, enthusiastic, fun, patient, and supportive! Our son started with ukulele lessons, then moved to electric guitar. With Tat's instruction, he learned to read music fluently and has learned to play classic pieces as well as music pieces that have personal interest. The exposure to so many instruments in Tat's studio has piqued S's interests into adding unique instruments into our home (even the melodica, learning to play Gorillaz!). We are so grateful for the music education and inspiration Tat brings into our home!
Nina Franks-Yoshinaga: XTY Music Lessons is GREAT! The teacher offered me a free trial lesson. Soon after that, I decided to take several music lessons from this teacher. He is a multi-instrumentalist teacher, who plays (and teaches) from many instruments for all ages. Some of the instruments he plays are: piano, guitar, bass, drums, recorder, violin, and harmonica. He is a very patient, reasonable, and flexible music teacher who writes specialized lesson plans for each student. One would be lucky to get a music lesson with him because he in such high demand that he is starting to reach his maximum number of students he can accept. I would HIGHLY recommend XTY Music Lessons for an in-depth, personal, and well taught music lesson.

Page Music Lessons: what do users think?
MengDe Zhu: I called the number below and heard a voice message saying it is closed during holiday, reopening at Jan 3rd. But it is already Jan 7th. What's wrong?
Ngan Tran: I have been learning piano at Page Music Lessons for about 8 months now. My instructor is Sarah Yang, she is an amazing teacher who is very patient and helpful toward my learning process. The staff there are also very nice and friendly. I really enjoy the lessons and have a great time every time I come to the studio. I would definitely recommend Page Music Lessons to any of my friends who is interested in learning a new instrument.
Sanford McMurtry: I started taking piano lessons a few weeks ago without any previous experience other than having learned to play guitar over the past 15 years. Within a couple of weeks, Thomasina has helped me understand how to read music notation and play several songs. I am thrilled with the progress and recently upgraded my membership to the Full Membership plan and can't wait to take advantage of the benefits that are available with the membership.
Rebecca Ercolani: I have been taking piano lessons at the studio for just over a year now. As an adult, I had no prior experience to playing a musical instrument and because of this, was hesitant to begin knowing the learning curve I would be facing. My instructor, Pierre, has been extremely helpful and patient in this process, beginning my journey with the basics and gradually building up my skill set as I have been ready. He does an excellent job of teaching musical theory, which I found not only interesting, but beneficial as I learn more about different pieces and genres. The office staff is very kind and flexible, making it easy to reschedule or cancel lessons as needed. If you are looking to learn a new musical skill or brush up on one you already have, I would certainly recommend Page Music Lessons.
Ronan Barrett: I have been taking lessons with Page Music for approximately 3 years. Throughout that time I have enjoyed the experience of learning to play guitar. Matt has done a great job of challenging me to develop my skills at a pace I am comfortable with. SInce the pandemic began, lessons shifted to being virtual and we have hardly missed a beat. Via Zoom, Matt continued to work together. In fact, being able to play with my own amp. has contributed to my progress. I would absolutely recommend Page Music to any adult interested in learning to play. Virtual teaching did not affect the standard of instruction in any way.
Kurt Wagner: I'm an adult who has taken electric guitar lessons at Page Music Lessons for several years. The instructors are highly skilled, supportive, and extremely easy to work with. I also really enjoy the monthly jam nights, which gives students a chance to play together in a low pressure, fun, environment; but one which can be as challenging as you want to make it. The pandemic has obviously changed the way they operate, but the instructors have adapted and their personal Zoom lessons are virtually as good as live lessons, and very convenient! If you're an adult who has been thinking about starting or resuming playing music, this is a great time to do it, and I would highly recommend Page for lessons.
Deven Smith-Clarke: Great group of people. Instructors are good, and the song nights are great to play with other musicians.
Qi Liao: I have been taking piano lessons at Page Music for over a year. When I came here, I can hardly read the notes. After one year of commitment, I have finished one book and was able to perform my favorite Bach. Thank you Jasmine and Page Music. You are the best.
Niall Corrigan: My daughter has been taking violin lessons at Page Music for about 18 months now. The experience has been very positive. Her teacher, Taylor, has been wonderful - patient and encouraging. She takes an approach that might be described as Suzuki light, and will often spend some time on musical theory or history during the lessons. Daughter genuinely looks forward to her weekly lesson. The facility is also great. Conveniently located on Newbury St right by a the Hynes T-stop. They have a simple billing system that works well. The staff are extremely accomodating and responsive. They host regular recitals offsite that offer a non-threatening opportunity for students to play in front of a group. Finally, one of the managers/instructors (Rick) occasionally brings his dog to the studio - and she's fantastic!
Phyllis Wilker: I started violin lessons at Page about five months ago and I have really enjoyed them. I had studied violin when I was younger, but I hadn't taken lessons since high school, so I was more than a little apprehensive. My teacher, Taylor, has been great for me. She points out techniques that I need to improve, but she is also kind and encouraging. She has expertise in various types of violin playing - classical, jazz and bluegrass and she has been open to teaching me different types of music, as well as some music theory.
Michael Davin: As a 60 year old learning to play an instrument (guitar) for the first time, I'm thrilled I chose Page Music. My overall experience has been educational, relaxing and exciting. Matt is an amazing teacher! His patience and encouragement for a newbie like me has been inspirational. I look forward to continuing my lessons as I chase my goal of becoming a proficient, recreational guitarist. Thank you Page Music!!
John Cragin: Outstanding instruction that combines knowledge, patience, flexibility and humor. I might be one of the slowest students ever but I come away from each lesson knowing more and inspired to keep learning.
Juan Kim: Hey! I am just curious how much it is for a monthly lesson?
Stephanie Walther: I have had a significant improvement in my voice in the year that I have been taking lessons. I also participate in the jam nights, song nights, and recitals that Page offers. They give me a chance to work on stage fright, stage presence, working with an ensemble, and working with songs that stretch my comfort zone. My instructor and the jam/song night leaders have been incredibly supportive and positive as I learn to use my voice. It's been a great experience.
Kevin: I've been taking lessons with Aaron and Emily for a while now and have been extremely happy with the progress. They're friendly and helpful in providing a customized plan for improving, as well as extremely knowledgeable about theory, which is more than I had expected from lessons. Overall, the environment here is great, generally fun and relaxed, which makes it helpful for learning.
Eric Lavalliere: I've been taking Lessons at Page for Just over 6 months, my experience has been great! The first few months I stuck with one on one lessons to learn the basics. Recently I also got involved with song and jam nights. This has really brought everything together. The great private instruction combined with low pressure group classes is awesome.
Cara Donovan: My son and I have taken drum lessons with Dan at Page Music for almost 8 months. There are varied opportunities to play with others/before an audience. Dan is a patient and animated teacher and we look forward to our weekly lessons. I would highly recommend Page Music for first time musicians. They are flexible with proper notice to change if you need to. Instructors are knowledgeable and talented.
Ronald Lohse: I returned to playing piano after several years away. The studio and the instruction here is first rate. Plenty of opportunities to perform if that's your thing. Also, they have been very flexible whenever I have needed to reschedule. Definitely recommend them to anyone looking to start or continue their music education.
Kathleen C. Stone: I returned to playing piano as an adult and have studied with several teachers, but the most outstanding is Jasmine at Page Music. She is a terrific musician, trained in classical as well as jazz, and a great teacher as well. She pitches her lessons to my level, and combines playing with a little theory, and she never minds having to repeat or re-explain a point. I am delighted to be her student.
Julio Butter: I've been taking voice lessons from Page Music for approximately 6 months now and have been learning a lot! I am really happy for the service and quality of the lessons, and my voice improvement has exceeded my expectations. I definitely recommend music school for any musician out there.
Sarah Fortune: Over the past six years, both my son and daughter have taken lessons at Page in drums and voice/bass respectively. We have been consistently impressed because their teachers have uniformly made learning to play instruments joyful. Not that the teachers don't have high standards and ask the kids to practice a lot----but the teachers allow the kids to explore their own musical interests through their respective instruments. This experience has contrasted with the kids' years in other, (more formal?) music schools where the curriculum marched through a series of learning to play books that were soul killingly boring. Also love the flexibility in scheduling.

Back Bay Guitar Lessons: what do users think?
Anton Spaans: Buddy has been my guitar teacher for quite a few years now. I received a guitar and a coupon for lessons at Back Bay Guitar as a Xmas present at work about 5 years ago..... and still keep my lessons going with Buddy.Buddy's strength is that he is excellent at tailoring your lessons to your needs and likings. Are you just leaning to play guitar for a side hobby, maybe not practice *every* day, he'll teach you songs, only a little 'theory'. If you want to really learn to play well, the lessons will be tailored to that.Even with my shoddy practice regimen (I could practice more), I've been getting better and better and, above all, I'm enjoying it a LOT.Right now, lessons are online (because of covid), over Skype. I sometimes do miss the personal/on-site lessons, but doing them at home is convenient 😁
Andrew L.: I've been learning with Buddy for a few years...it's been a lot of fun and very educational. He's both a great musician and a great teacher. Profoundly knowledgeable about guitar and about music theory. He also has a very patient and playful teaching style and often enhances lessons with very funny or interesting stories from music history or his own career. Highly recommended!
Christopher Schiraldi: I started working with Buddy Jones in the beginning of 2020 somewhere at the start of the global pandemic. Because I started post pandemic my very first lesson with Buddy was via Skype. After 6+ months of working with Buddy every Friday I still cannot express how happy I am with my results/progression and most importantly the quality of his teaching.Buddy is an excellent musician and an even better teacher. He is also the real deal as he paved his way earlier in his career obtaining a four year degree at the one and only Berklee College of Music.lastly, think of it this way. I have never had an in-person lesson with Buddy due to the global pandemic and I am a 100% satisfied student and I feel all of my expectations have been surpassed.5 stars for Buddy Jones and any of you out there if you are on the fence about starting lessons, do not hesitate you will not be disappointed.
Tim Ehrlich: I have been working with Buddy for about one year and can honestly say that he is one of the best teachers I have ever had in my life. His knowledge of the guitar and how to make music is extraordinary and his range in musical styles is simply absurd--there is nothing I have ever wanted to play or any question I had which he couldn't answer for me in a very satisfying way. He is also extremely laid back and makes the lesson a truly enjoyable and fun experience. I have a very busy work and family schedule and in my life have never kept a single consistent weekly appointment--until I started working with Buddy and then I never miss a lesson. He is just that good.
elsa hansen: I've taken lessons with Buddy for about 6 years. When I started, I knew absolutely nothing about playing guitar. Now I can play and sing some of my favorite songs (he actually got me doing that fairly quickly). I think more importantly, having the opportunity to work with him has given me a much deeper appreciation of music. I now love songs that I would have never listened to before. My experience with music is much richer. I'm sad to be giving up my lessons with Buddy, but I know that because of the time I've spent working with him, I have the ability to continue to play and enjoy music for the rest of my life. He is also just a really nice fellow and a lot of fun to work with.
ann bruck: I began working with Buddy in 2013, through the recommendation of another one of his students. From early childhood, I had trouble with hearing the proper sounds of language and music. As an adult, I wanted to learn an instrument and thought guitar would be great because so much can be learned just by feel. This was one of the big draws for me to working with Buddy. He teaches each of his students to their strength; ear, feel or sight. By the student choosing the song list, it is almost guaranteed a fun and successful session every time.Buddy has a true passion for music both as a player and a teacher. I would hands down name him and only him as a recommended teacher for anyone looking to pick up the guitar whether you are a beginner or have years of experience.
Nathan Canterbury: Buddy is a great teacher! He helped me grow comfortable with the instrument and made a point of working with me on music I was interested in. Over the course of 8 months I feel that my playing ability has greatly increased. When I began I was only familiar with a few chords but after a few months we were tackling some challenging charts. I learned a lot of material and some basic music theory from our lessons, and enjoyed the process. I would highly recommend Buddy to anyone looking to further their musical knowledge and ability.
Mallory: I am extremely grateful I chose Buddy as my guitar teacher. He was professional, prepared, and always open-minded. He challenged me and encouraged me. His experience is inspiring.
Michael Fuccione: Buddy is an exceptional teacher. I have had many guitar teachers over the course of my life, and Buddy is by far the best I have ever had. He actually plays with you, you sit down together and play music. You don't sit there and watch him play or listen to lectures the whole time. Buddy has multiple ways of explaining concepts until you understand, he doesn't just have one way of teaching, he is very flexible and can explain things in way you will understand or will keep trying different approaches until you do understand. Above all that he is a great guy who loves music and loves teaching music to people. He is passionate about teaching and seeing his students improve. When I look back on my skill set when I started and compare it to now, I can honestly say I am a much better guitar player and my understanding of music, how songs are constructed and ability to play are worlds away from where I started - and I have Buddy to thank for that.
Jason Landry: I learned more about playing blues and jazz guitar in a year and half of weekly lessons with Buddy than I did in the prior 30 years trying to learn on my own. Buddy is patient, knowledgable, and was flexible even when my work schedule got in the way. I’m so glad he was able to teach this old dog new tricks and licks!
Jessica Bond: Not knowing a single thing about playing, I started guitar lessons with Buddy on a guitar that my daughter had abandoned. I choose him not even sure how to pick a guitar teacher, and he has proven a great one. Most important, probably, the lessons are shaped around what you want to learn and play ("If you love the song, you'll be much more likely to practice," is his philosophy) and he teaches you how to do it--chords, strum patterns, finger picking, etc. He's patient, warm, and generous, and he mixes well challenge and fun. If you're looking for a guitar teacher, I highly recommend Buddy.
Aaron Neimer: Buddy is great! Whatever you may want to learn or improve on, Buddy can make it happen. He's patient, professional, very welcoming, and incredibly knowledgeable. He has a genuine love of the instrument and his interest in making you a better player as well as musician. He has some pretty great stories too....
Dave Burke: If you're like me, someone who has always wanted to learn to play guitar but wasn't sure where to start, I strongly urge you to give Buddy a call and set up a lesson. I went from not being able to play a single chord to playing full songs in no time. Buddy made a point to teach me songs that I wanted to play and taught me the right techniques to not only play songs but play them the right way (like timing, strumming techniques, reading the music he'd write out for me, etc.) Once I was comfortable with the basics, Buddy helped me incorporate more advanced techniques and guitar solos. I honestly can't believe how far I've come.I just wish I had started lessons with Buddy sooner. I waited years while my guitar collected dust because I was frustrated trying to learn. Now that I'm playing the songs I want to play, I practice all the time.
Jp: I took lessons with Buddy for nearly four years, and it was a great experience.Buddy can play and teach any style of music: jazz (from bossa nova to gypsy jazz to bebop), rock, pop, flamenco, even metal. He has an encycopledic knowledge of the specific styles of any player. What I loved about him was that he let you determine how you wanted to learn. If you need exercises to learn a skill, say, soloing, he'll come up with some for you to practise. If what you need is practice playing a tune, you'll just play tunes together the whole lesson.Generally, I liked learning guitar by learning tunes; I wouldn't want to learn from a book or a method. I would come in with a tune I wanted to play, and Buddy would come up with an arrangement of it by ear no matter what style or instrument it was played on. From then we'd work through playing it together until I had it down. Then we would work on things like chord-melodies and soloing over the form.I went in with a basic knowledge of chords on the guitar. Within a month I knew the chord forms to accompany jazz. Soon after, I had grasped scales, modes, chord arpeggios. Buddy was helping me come up with my own chord melodies.I highly recommend him for players of any level: I started as a beginner, and improved a lot. Buddy had no trouble giving me more to work with as I got better.
John Jarvis: I took lessons with Buddy for a year and half and had a great experience. I had no guitar skill going in, and Buddy was incredibly patient in helping me better understand the instrument and become a better player. Buddy's also a great guy, and it was obvious that he cares about the development of his students as musicians.
Mark Ferrara: I began my guitar studies by teaching myself from the internet. While the information available to us from the web is phenomenal, it isn't enough, and I quickly hit a "wall." As a result, I embarked on what ended up being a very long quest to find the right guitar teacher to help me progress. At the end of that search was Buddy Jones. Buddy's relaxed manner, teaching style, and immense musical knowledge matched what I was looking for exactly. I have been taking lessons from Buddy for over two years now, and I have improved more in that time than I would have thought possible, certainly more than I would have done so on my own. Buddy's playing is amazing, his musical ability formidable, and his teaching his top notch. If you are like me and looking to push yourself to the next level of guitar playing, you can't go wrong with Buddy Jones.
Laura P: It was an absolute pleasure taking lessons with Buddy at Back Bay Guitar. When I decided I wanted to learn how to play, I didn’t even own a guitar. I found Buddy online and e-mailed him about lessons. He signed me up for Monday sessions and even helped me with advice on purchasing a good, beginner guitar. Buddy was professional, kind and beyond patient. To this day it amazes me how a guitarist of his caliber can take the time to teach someone how to strum their first chord and struggle through the basics.I continued with my lessons every Monday night for almost 4 years. Buddy taught me more chords that I can even count and helped me to understand the basics of music theory. The great thing about him is, you get to choose the way you want to learn. Buddy is very adaptable to multiple styles and encourages you to choose music that you enjoy. You can be as good as you want to be, you just have to put in the time and effort. The only reason I discontinued my lessons with Buddy is because I relocated to Chicago for work. Otherwise, I would be there every Monday torturing him with my relentless love for country music. After all of the time we spent together I not only consider Buddy an excellent teacher, but he is also a great friend.
Mike s: I played guitar while in high school and then didn't pick it up again until 24 years later, and i landed at buddy's, for my first lessons in many years. Over the past 2 years i have learned volumes, and had a blast doing it. He has a great low key style of teaching, and worked with me at the pace that i was comfortable working at. I feel incredibly lucky that my re-introduction to guitar playing was with buddy, it's been a rockin' experience. So if you're looking to learn from a great musician and learn in a great environment, look no further. email buddy today!cheers
Ryan Frisch: Buddy is an extremely talented musician and even more patient and respectful teacher. His grasp of music theory and styles is surpassed by none but what is even more impressive was his ability to adapt to my style of learning (and taste) to help me really understand the guitar. Whether you just want to learn new songs or you want to understand the theory behind it, Buddy is your guy. He will go into as much or as little detail as you want each week. I started with Buddy with only a few chords in my pocket and after 11 months I left with a framework in place that allow me to listen to a song and learn how to play it within minutes (without cheating and and looking up the chords online). It is something I could have only dreamed of 12 months ago and Buddy has helped make that a reality. Buddy is extremely passionate about music and very committed to helping anyone learn and share in his passion and I would recommend him for beginner and advanced students alike. HE IS THAT GOOD!
Keith Vandal: What do you look for in an instructor? Personally, I needed someone who was going to be patient with the fact that I had been teaching myself (probably the wrong way) for several years prior to seeking lessons. Buddy was my first experience with professional guitar help and I have to say I have been spoiled. He worked with me over the first couple of lessons to get a feel for my style and what sort of music I was trying to play. He then listed some concepts we were going to work on to improve my knowledge of the fretboard and how to use different systems to work out solos or particular charts. I've got to hand it to him, he is one of the most patient people I have ever met. After coming from a long day at the office; I would arrive stressed out and unfocused on playing. When this would happen, he would recognize my short temper and talk through a concept for a few moments which allowed me to "get into the zone" and think about guitar. I came to Buddy as a beginner looking to find my way onto the stage and play out with some friends of mine that gig regularly - being a performance musician as well as a teacher, Buddy was able to help me practice effectively and mentally prep myself for being in front of a crowd with my instrument. The only reason why I had to stop lessons was due to a move to another city, otherwise I'd still be there! I highly recommend Buddy for anyone in a position similar to mine looking to get to the next level with their guitar. He uses an organized method that is easy to understand, and is patient enough to work with you when something isn't clear - no matter how "dumb" you may think your confusion is.

School of Rock: what do users think?
Jason Redi: School of Rock Watertown has been an amazing place for my daughter. She played classical piano and percussion for years but had become disinterested in the traditional music styles and required rigor once she hit her pre-teen years. Encouraging her to continue in music was difficult. SoR changed all that. She's found multiple new instruments to connect with and SoR is supportive of the experimentation process. She's had incredible teachers that work closely with her, but also allow her to have input into where she goes with the music. She's found a supportive community with multiple bands and made many friends who talk music all the time. We have a common connection through her love and understanding of modern rock music. We've gone from dragging her from classical lessons, to her begging to take more lessons, band groups, and summer camps. Perhaps all the SoR sites are good, but the Watertown one is particularly amazing because the great attitude comes from the top staff and is pervasive in everything they do.
Nursin Ata: Make sure you are not telling them you will be canceling your subscription right before the holiday season starts! It’s not gonna matter if you tell them in advance that your child will not be attending during the holiday and you need to schedule a make up class; you will get a response saying “ it is what it is, I do not have any availability “ and my son’s classes canceled without any reimbursement!!!!! what an unprofessional attitude is that? Plus we been pretty kind even though we were not satisfied since me and my son started taking classes. They couldn’t find a teacher for me which was ok, I respect that there were shortages all over the country with many aspects. But my son (5y) had a 3-4 different teachers over the last 3 months, kids couldn’t settle down! Couple of times they canceled the class at the very last minute where we parked our car in front of the building; besides we drive 40 minutes to get there!!! what do you think all is that really fair????
Cem Aydın: Our kid attended there for 3 months and his teachers changed 4 times! A few times they couldn't find teacher at all and once they called us 5 mins before the class to cancel it, when we were parked at their place. They asked us whether he could attend classes during Xmas and new year holidays, we said no, we would be out of town. Classes were not postponed but canceled without refund. We don’t have any clue why we were asked if it wasn't going to be arranged. All in all we are super unhappy with the lack of organization.
Brooke Burke: My son always loved music and we started him in Rookies at 5. He loved it and fell in love with the electric guitar so now does Rookies and private lessons. The staff and instructors are the best and it’s a great community!
Petra Paulson: SCHOOL OF ROCK ROCKS !
Jim Ryan: Amazing school great teachers my son works with Jordan and his voice has improved so much definitely a great place for young musicians
Robert Orifice: My grandson had a camp week there and put on a band concert for family members. They did a good job considering the lack of prep time.
Robert W. Yeh: Our son has had an amazing experience learning the bass guitar and drums at School of Rock in Watertown. The instructors are amazing musicians and committed teachers, and the experience of practicing and performing with a band makes it extraordinarily fun.
Elisa Elena: My son has been having a great experience at School of Rock learning drumming from Ian. They do a great job of building community and teaching kids about music. Very inclusive place. He has also very much enjoyed being part of the band program. Currently finishing a David Bowie performance semester with a show at the end. And he also enjoyed being part of a Beatles ensemble last fall. Highly recommend this place.
Elizabeth Fennell: Great vibe, teachers and programming. My 13 year old daughter immediately took to it.
Liana Buccieri: Staff in Watertown are wonderful- really accommodating and worked with us closely to find good fit teachers for our kids. They are learning so much in just a few months of lessons and really having fun!
David Rand: Our 6 year old is really loving learning drums with Ian at Watertown School of Rock! It's very fun fun how quickly he was able to get the point of actually playing a real rock beat
Madeline McNeely: The Friday summer camp Performances are phenomenal. They give the performers a real experience of performing in a club setting that is professional with an audience. It's excellent and so fun for family and friends and most importantly the amazing young performers who are living their dreams.
Lili Hedrick: All three of my daughters go to School Of Rock Watertown. We take Guitar, Drums, Vocals, and they are all in one - two performance groups. The staff are friendly and courteous and feel like family to us. The confidence music performance has brought to my girls has been incredible. It carries through to school work and sports and theatre as well as their personal relationships. They have made lifetime friends and coaches. These teachers are mentors and always there as an added support structure. Many of us use music as therapy or a way to escape and these instructors guide our kids in a way that they can learn and heal through music as well as the history of songs and creating a can do attitude most of these kids strive for. I highly recommend SOR Watertown…Lili
Dawn Scaltreto: School of Rock in Watertown is awesome-sauce! The teachers are fantastic and the opportunity to provide practical application to what I am learning by playing in an actual band is great! Special shout-out to Justin and Gabi, they are bringing me to the next level, and I love my bandmates. It is all starting to come together. You are never too old to rock and roll! 🎸🚀🤘🏻
MB Jarosik: Such a great program and crew!
Kathy Anderson: My son's playing has improved SO much in a year because of the performance aspect of School of Rock. The lessons are great, and being in a band really solidifies what he's learning. We highly recommend School of Rock.
Melissa Green: GREAT program!
Prakash Shrestha: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueGreat school with friendly and helpfulStaff. The director and front desk staff areVery accommodating. My Three kids goes there and they all love their teachers.
Gene Shwalb: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueMy bass teacher is very knowledgeable, very flexible towards meeting my goals and adapting to my strengths and weaknesses. Is really pleasant to work with. I look forward to my lessons knowing that I'm going to get value out of attending while having fun doing so.

Boston School of Music Arts: what do users think?
Paul Marquez: Professional instructors who make learning fun! We appreciate that the children have performances to work toward and that all of the staff are always helpful and friendly. Highly recommend!
Christopher D. Anderson: BSMA has been very patient with a beginning musician (who doesn't always handle criticism well!), I'm very impressed at how encouraging and inspiring the instruction has been. Now if I could just get my son to practice more . . .
Olumide Adebo: My son does violin lessons here and it's great to have that in the neighborhood.
Nneka Edwards-Burgess: As an adult learner, the atmosphere is not intimidating. My family and I enjoy learning together.
Soondarie Barker: Linda and Julie are the beautiful faces of BSMA. They are extremely efficient. They readily tackle any questions or scheduling conflicts. The instructors are knowledgeable and always friendly. They do a wonderful job of tailoring lessons to meet students where they are. Last, but not least, Sharon and Yuri are talented and passionate musicians. They have set the goal of filling hearts with the power of music and are committed to seeing that goal through to fruition for all who enter the doors of BSMA.
Tracey Worthen: Good music school close to my neighborhood. Great teachers and a good learning experience.
Ingrid: I do not have much to say than it is a fantastic school, well organized, where your child learns. I can see the progress. Great school! Music is like a balm for the soul!
Jane Wood: I learned how to play piano and do vocals here! I have been going here for 5 years and I have never had a bad experience! The owners are very cautious about Covid-19,which is a good thing! The teachers here really teach you what your limits really are and help you achieve your goals! Would really recommend for anything from ages 6+!
Eliane Shwairi: I started taking lessons and I like the place so far.
Kate Bosolango: I learned two of my main instruments at this school. They have wonderful professors and quality facilities.
Alyssa Whitworth: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,Value
Natalie Mitchell: wonderful atmosphere
Pierre Mentor: I enjoy the way they show me some lessons...then i do a lot of progress, when i practiced the guitar from them...🗼
Khu Duong: Friendly and knowledgeable staffs.
Alessandra Pollina: We’ve had a great experience so far with children’s piano lessons. The instructors are fantastic with kids, and the school has been easy to communicate with and be a part of.
Jeanel Humber: I love the classes. My daughter loves Ms. Sharon and has a great time in the class with her friends. She has learned about a lot of new instruments. It's very educational! "
george howard: Great place for young music learners
Avi Meyers: I feel lucky to have found Yury, Sharon and the Boston School of Music Arts. I began my journey at the age of 4 with classical violin lessons. These gradually turned into guitar lessons at the age of 15. I have always had a deep passion for music, but never quite felt fulfilled from it. When I began to write my own music, I realized this was the best way to focus my energies, and the next logical step was to find a voice coach. This led me to Yury, and we began a series of lessons. I soon realized I had stumbled upon more than a voice coach. Yury is my music mentor, he allows his students a chance to grow, and develop into artists in the most organic way possible. His knowledge of music, and skills on a plethora of instruments are unmatched. Couple this with the professional and warm-hearted nature of Sharon who runs the school, and I can't imagine why anyone would take lessons anywhere else. I felt compelled to write this review and encourage anyone with an interest or desire to play music to come down to the Boston School of Music Arts and get involved in this awesome community of musicians.

School of Rock: what do users think?
Jim Cavan: How much fun is this! A terrific path towards learning an instrument.... proving the School of Rock is for all ages (I'm 56)...... my son, 10, inspired me...Total blast.
Nanette Fridman: Was amazing until corporate bought it back.
Konrad Farr: I have been learning electric guitar here for 2 years best session of my people here are so nice and helpful
Henry L: My son (12) plays drums, and my daughter (14) plays guitar. We've been going to SoR Natick since late February and they are having a great time.It is expensive, especially with two kids going at the same time, but if you count the 2.5 hours a week of rehearsal time + the .75 hours a week of instruction time it comes out to about $23/hour ($325 a month divided by ~14 hours/month). Granted they are not playing for the full 2.5 hours of rehearsal time, it's still a good value if you consider music store lessons are $25-$35 for a *half* hour. The performance program also encourages the kids to practice more often then when they were taking individual lessons. If you value working as a team as a valuable life skill, but your child is not a team sports kind of kid (or maybe you're not a team sports kind of parent...) SoR is a great program for them to learn work as a team while building a skill they'll have for life.
