Chris Ferry: This place has been in business since the late 1800's, which is quite a feat considering how quickly these small places are closing. The gentleman I talked to was very friendly and talked to me about some of the history of the place.They have a wide variety of things inside and it's definitely worth stopping by for a few minutes just to look around and see some of the old items inside.

Mike Vozzella: Company was very responsive to our call . The technnician, Alex found the problem and gave us a temporary solution until the new part could be installed. He was a pleasure to work with and very helpful.
Candace Miller: This is the first review I have ever written. John the service guy finally called me back after 2 weeks of back and forth calls. He had immediate attitude on the phone and asked how I got his number (he called me first from an inquiry on the Heatilator website). As if I wasn't in the right to be calling him. He sounded super annoyed to even be on the phone.He tells me it will be 325 just for the visit, not counting any other parts or additional service. We made an appointment for March 9th. I asked about the cancellation policy (if we found someone sooner) which is a totally normal question. He gave me a very rude response as if he was chastising me for even asking. Being a customer that wants my fireplace fixed in a timely manner and given his past response rate I don't think it was an abnormal question to ask.I had a bad feeling from the start of the call from his attitude alone. Go elsewhere for your fireplace needs.it’s unfortunate because the first guy that called me from black magic chimney to set me up with John could not have been nicer.

Dean Toulan: Called and emailed requesting information - never got it. Went into the store, asked questions and went home and did some research. I called back to schedule an onsite appointment, confirmed it and was no-showed. I then rescheduled, confirmed, and received an email that the person there was unsure of when my appointment was hours before it was set to happen. I called + emailed - confirmed with contact that they would show up at the end of the day and was no-showed again.

This is from the sales rep who already spent time visiting our house to show us options. No response. Completely incompetent at communications would not trust them at this point.
Lisa: Terrific. I had two previous guys come to look at my chimney problem. Let's just say each of those earlier two had major red flags going on. With Black Magic, they picked up the phone immediately, made an appt for 2 days later, showed up on time, and did an amazing job identifying options. Basically I need chimney caps, but my house has a roof that would need scaffolding to install those, so he just said, "It would be less for you to hire a roofer than for us to do the scaffolding." This is so rare-- someone letting go of a business opportunity to do the right thing by way of the customer. I was so impressed. He also took a look at my chimney liner (which another guy said I needed to have replaced asap, but which is only a year old). Black Magic said, no need to do it now, just have it looked at in 5 years; it likely will last at least 10. He was truly outstanding, knowledgeable, honest, and pleasant!

Afshin Beheshti: All the negative reviews are true about Black Chimney. When you initially go in before they have your money, they are friendly and even come over your house to consult. But once they get your money it is impossible to get a hold of them and they never return your calls. I dealt with Larry and he was friendly at first, but after the deposit it was almost impossible to get a hold of him. Not to mention he gave all the wrong information on the size of the fireplace and how much space it will take up. Luckily our contractor went over and got the right specs, but that even took the sales people at the store an hour to find. For people who claim to do this for a living, they know as much as I would if I spent a day searching the web... Luckily they installed everything on the right date, but my contractor realized that they didn't even level the fireplace... Stay away from this company. They are EXTREMELY frustrating to work with, incredibly hard to get a hold of on the phone or by email, and the sales people are obviously not very knowledgeable on actual fireplaces... This company really needs to train it's staff with better customer service skills...

After calling, emailing, and visiting their store multiple times, I still have not received my chimney cap or a refund. They stole my money and have no intentions of delivering the product. This is a badly run, dishonest business.
steve wilson: I do not recommend going to Black Magic Chimney in Cambridge, MA.I purchased a pellet stove, which they said would be installed 1-2 weeks after payment and ordering from their supplier. For 2 months, after ignoring phone calls and emails, they finally replied saying they were "busy." 3 weeks later, they brought the wrong stove to my home.It took almost 2 more months of calls and emails to get them back...I dealt with the owner, Perry who doesn't seem to have both oars in the water. stay away from this place....

ChrisG: Absolutely terrible “service” from this place. They say that they provide project management services. They don’t. Susan is terrible - you have to do her job for her and if you ask her to do anything, she cries and calls her boss. Whoever did the site visit got stuck in traffic coming from Providence and canceled. Who’d have thought there is traffic in Boston? Mark Galenski, the general manager - there are not enough words to describe this man - rude, ignorant, uninformed, lacks the minimum skill for the job he has. He just refunded our money and told us to go away after his folks screwed up at every step. Wow….I mean, I really have never had this bad of an experience at the worst car dealership.Oh and talk about over-priced? I had two Mendota FV44i’s (higher model than quoted by these crooks) installed and saved $5k (yes…) with purchase and install by Clappers in Sudbury (Robb the owner is a super guy - meticulous and honest). Don’t believe any of these other reviews. Run away from these people.And Commonwealth Fireplace in Norwood? Believe all of their reviews. They won’t even call you back - but I suppose in the long run, that was better than these people!Photos of the great job by Clappers below (the grace on the brown mantle fireplace was temporary).

Recreate Properties: In renovating an old home, we wanted to find a gas fireplace to fit with the original mantel. After visiting a number of different showrooms and being told it wouldn't work, or I could only use a tiny, unattractive firebox, I was about ready to give up on the original mantel. Luckily, I stumbled upon Boston Fine Home Details. Susan could not have been more helpful and kind, and she came up with a great solution that would allow the mantel to be brought up to code by building up the legs. Everyone I worked with at Boston Home Fine Details was knowledgeable, helpful, kind and professional. They came out and found the right venting options, installed the piece, and came for the final hookup while fitting us into a tight schedule. I could not have been more pleased with the final result, and I have already called Susan again to find a solution for the next fireplace!

Kendra Marshall kendrawmarshall: I rarely say I can rave about an establishment or service but I want to take the time to express genuine gratitude for the superb experience we had with Stove King. Things have become so automated and impersonal -- I think people legitimately want great customer support and service. We got both.So, here's the deal. Our ancient furnace finally let go of the ghost and we're looking at well over 10k in replacement. We've got a double-sided gas fireplace which we run on holidays, etc. Sure enough, I couldn't get the pilot lit. Of course, this led to a cascade effect of worry.We phoned other businesses but got a very quick response from Stove King. A few other places also were booking with NO real urgency. We lucked out. Melissa got us a Monday appointment after first phoning late week. I'm sure she knew we were pretty stressed.Got a quote lower than the competetor that did call back -- for the works.We were told Ryan would arrive between 2- 3, he was here promptly (but not too promptly) at 2:15 which was perfect and knowing he'd be departing via Rhode Island -- considerate. This is another word I'd associate with our experience.He checked out the fireplace console and repaired a wonky ignition switch which caused the issue. He also thoroughly cleaned the interior, the glass (with drop cloths...hooray!), arranged the elements to make them more efficient and aesthetically appealing, as well as the exterior vents on each side. Made our 15yr old fireplace look new.To boot, he gave me a detailed walk-through of the issue and quite honestly, was a pleasure to deal with. I'd have them back anytime something goes wrong and he told my elderly Mum I could ping him with a question should it arise.I'm not being reimbursed to write this (doubt it would work since I rarely write reviews). I'm totally sincere when I advise you to go with Stove King. They're unusual for this day and age. I'll have them to thank not just for heat but enjoying the fireplace again over the holidays. Thanks guys! A++Wanted to mention I'll take some photos later to add -- if the cat or dog don't get there first ;)

Fred Kennedy: I contacted stove king last year after another shop straight up ghosted me. It was a completely different story with Stove King. Such a pleasure to work from start to finish. I ordered a montlake 300 woodstove insert which was on a long back order at the time. Stove king kept me updated as best as they could on delivery estimates, and when it came in, their guys got this BEAST of a stove into my house with smiles on their faces. It wasn’t easy to get into my place, and they even found out they needed a flue offset piece that they didn’t know they needed. They called around to find it, and ended up driving a couple hours just to go get it and were able to install the fireplace in a day. I love my stove and am so happy I went with these guys to get it into my place. Thanks a bunch!

Michael Ceppi: Couldn't be happier with this entire process. I was working with Black Magic in Cambridge and it lit took two months just to get a quote back and they would not return my calls. I spoke with Matt and within an hour he beat their pricing and had John (installer) at my house to do a walk thru. I was under a tight timeframe with my contractor and Matt went above and beyond to meet my deadline. The install went smooth and John and Mike did an amazing job to elevate my unit to the spot I needed. Everyone was extremely professional and I would highly recommend working with them. Great work and thank you to Matt, John and Mike. I'll post a pic once the construction is complete.
Mike C: When they serviced my gas fireplace last month they did not reassemble the components correctly. The result was exhaust fumes in our house. After multiple calls and e-mails I was told they could get someone to my house in 3 weeks. They should have come to fix the problem that day. I reassembled the fireplace myself and found that their forcing the door closed permanently damaged a locking clip. I have e-mailed 3 times in the last week with no reply. My advice is to stay away. Find someone else.

The man who worked in the store was on the phone when I came in. No eye contact from him I waited and then looked around the store. I was most certainly in the store for more than 2-3 minutes. I came back to the front of the store. He was still on the phone. He did look up and pull the phone away from his ear and shrugged his shoulders and continued talking. The man on the other end of the phone was talking so loud I could hear him. At one point he was talking about his lawyer he had to get. I asked him are you going to be long. No response. Eventually I walked out.A few days before I was on their site and signed up for a coupon. The next day after being in the store I got an email from them about using the coupon. I responded back with my experience. This was the response from the man who was there.“i was the man on the phone. there was no talk of a lawyer, i certainly did make eye contact and signal that i would be a minute. you came in and were here a total of 2-3 minutes and walked out you are correct in assuming that if you are that impatient we dont need your business . we have been in business for over 35 years so we obviously know how to satisfy our customers. maybe you are not the type person who can be satisfied. im sorry i didnt immediately hang up on my other customer and bow down to kiss your feet...”Lovely! Who would want to do business with someone like that. Glad I found out just how Custoer Service friendly there were before I made a purchase.

Jill Dougan: We converted our wood-burning fireplace to a gas fireplace because we weren't using it. The smell and soot and smoke involved with a real fire wasn't fun. We wanted to keep our beautiful stone exterior and add an insert that looked like to belonged there so that we would use it more. Mike and Paul worked with us to design the perfect solution, then their expert team worked to install the gas line and fireplace. It came out fantastic. We know we will use it year-round.Every step from beginning to end was handled professionally and by friendly people who you can tell love their jobs. We highly recommend using this company if you are thinking about purchasing a gas fireplace.

Marjorie Charney: I had my gas fireplace installed last fall by The Fireplace Store and I am loving every minute of instant fire and instant heat. I did a lot of due diligence on Yelp and Next Door and Google. I wanted a place that could do all the steps for me: the chimney lining, the gas plumbing connections, the fireplace installation, etc. I went down to Quincy and looked at different models and chose one. Their sales department worked closely with me as I modified the estimate to fit my budget, always telling me where I could cut corners and maybe where I shouldn't cut corners. They did all the scheduling. The installer even gave me his cell phone at the end in case I needed immediate, direct support. Of course, I didn't. All in all, a great experience with The Fireplace Store@ Mazzini Plumbing. It wasn't cheap but their prices were competitive and their service was excellent.

Vinod Vishwanath: Great customer service. They know their fireplaces.
Astrid Lambert: I have been to a few places, but they are the best. I am very happy with my new fireplace. All the staff at Commonwealth Fireplace is great. They are very knowledgeable and helpful. The custom fireplace back plate is a nice feature. It made finishing the fireplace much easier. One tip: They are very busy. If you want a fireplace insert in the Fall I would start planning in the Spring.

linda kelly: We bought a gas log in November and waited almost 4 months for delivery and installation. The log makes a very loud noise, especially when it’s off. We called and asked for service and we’re told not much could be done!! Mike said he would have our salesperson call us. That never happened. Terrible customerservice. We are very disappointed considering the amount of money we spent.

Daniel Shaw: My wife and I went to several places to shop around when our wood burning fireplace insert went kaput. The staff, management, and most of all the technicians were tremendously helpful in seeing it all through. On top of that, the selection was better than most.We left the store better educated than when we’d arrived, and armed with material to make a well informed buying decision. We’ve had the Regency Pro Hi500 stove for two years now and have zero complaints. Not a single one.I see there’s a one star review for length of time to dispatch. Not sure it warrants a 1 star for the whole outfit if you’re reaching out in winter. Recommend planning ahead and calling at the end of the burning season, not the start of it.Highly recommended by us! Will buy here again down the line when needed.
Robin Casarjian: I purchased a fireplace about three years ago and it needs maintenance as the pilot won't stay lit. The soonest appointment I could get was 6 weeks into the future. I love the fireplace - too bad I can't get the service I need to use it. I called mid-November and got first appointment for Dec. 27th.

She went way out of her way to accommodate me they don't sell my type of stove but she found the part she even called the stove manufacturer to make sure I got the right parts for my wood stove I would strongly recommend this place

CF's Jodi Boutin actively supported us every step of the way, helping us find not only the right unit, but the right masonry, chimney, plumbing and electrical services to make it all happen in a timely and fully coordinated way. Jodi is deeply knowledgeable, very professional and just wonderful in every way. Go no further than Commonwealth Fireplace if you are even thinking of converting to a gas fireplace!

She walked me through the ins and outs of replacing an insert and ultimately saved us unfathomable amounts of time, money and stress. When we replace our gas fireplace insert we will DEFINITELY purchase it through these guys.
Scott Brightman: I want to share how great an experience it's been working with Commonwealth Fireplace. The sales consultant we worked with was Jodi who really took the time to listen and added important value for product and scope of project. Michael in installation was great. The referral team - plumber and carpenter and DM Storrs Chimney have been helpful and match Commonwealth's quality.

Mark Morganelli: If you're planning for an insert, gas log or fireplace enclosure, you can't find a more reputable place to shop. My wife and I decided that many years of chopping, stacking and burning wood were behind us and found Commonwealth Fireplace. We didn't know where to begin but Jodi took us by the hand and walked us thru the process. We're extremely happy with our new enclosure and gas fireplace. Knowledgeable, friendly and thorough.
