Boston Athenaeum: what do users think?
Bertrand BLASSEL: 10 USD pour quatre salles de ce grand bâtiment sans information à l'accueil.Isabella Stuart, magnifique, 20 USD. Oubliez l'Athenaeum.
Matthew Nason: The Boston Athenæum, a true gem in the heart of Boston, is a must-visit for bibliophiles, art lovers, and history enthusiasts alike. This exceptional institution is one of the oldest independent libraries in the United States and a treasure trove of knowledge and culture.Upon entering the stunning building, you are immediately greeted by an aura of elegance and intellectual grandeur. The architecture and design of the Athenæum are a sight to behold, with its ornate detailing, high ceilings, and sweeping staircases. The warmth of the reading rooms and the grandeur of the art galleries offer a unique experience that transcends time. The library boasts an extensive collection of books, maps, manuscripts, and artwork. From rare, historical documents to modern-day bestsellers, you'll find something to pique your interest. The staff members are incredibly knowledgeable and helpful, always eager to assist with research or answer any questions. In addition to its literary offerings, the Athenæum's art collection is nothing short of spectacular. It features works from renowned artists like John Singer Sargent and Gilbert Stuart, as well as contemporary pieces from emerging talents. The rotating exhibits showcase a range of styles and themes, ensuring that there's always something new to discover. The membership option provides an even more immersive experience, granting access to exclusive events, lectures, and special collections. However, the Athenæum also offers day passes for visitors who are short on time but still want to explore this breathtaking institution.Overall, the Boston Athenæum is a unique and enriching experience that is sure to leave a lasting impression. It's not just a library, but a cultural institution that embodies the city's rich history and celebrates its vibrant artistic scene. Whether you're a local or a visitor, I highly recommend dedicating some time to explore the wonders of the Boston Athenæum.
Matt A. Murphy: The Boston Athenæum is a true gem in the heart of Boston. This historic library offers an unparalleled collection of books, maps, and artwork that spans centuries. The building itself is a work of art, with its beautiful architecture, cozy ready nooks, and stunning artwork. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and always willing to help. For example, my first week there I came across an old 1,000+ page old, tattered reference book I wanted peruse. A librarian noticed I was hesitant to pull it off the shelf given it was tied together with twine… she came over and reassured me that “much like her old, achy bones, books are meant to be used and I shouldn’t be afraid to pull anything I wanted.” So cool!Whether there to read, work, or just burn some time walking the stacks for random books/topics to learn about, I would highly recommend the Boston Athenæum to anyone looking for a unique and enriching experience. It's truly one of the most special places in Boston, and when you’re there you feel it and it’s collections’ long history.10/10 — it’s worth becoming a member.
Rachel Hammond: A lovely historic gem in downtown Boston. The books are phenomenal, of course, but the art is amazing too! I recently went to a show of book artists. The curator led the tour himself and the whole experience was wonderful. I look forward to going back again soon.
Hilly: Amazing museum space
Brianne McCormack: I was able to get a day pass and was it worth it! The building was amazing with all the nooks and crannies (many with comfy chairs). My only regret was not allotting more time to be here.
Andrew Remington: Fond memories of living in Boston. This is a great library. If u get a chance find yourself at the athenaeum!BRAVO!
Kelly Cambridgeport: The Art and Architecture Tour covers all the floors from 5th to basement. Cost varies from $5 to $15, depending on who you are. I paid $10 and stayed several hours afterwards. Incredibly beautiful library. I got to see the library of George Washington.
David Foxe: A far more gracious (if loquacious) entry sequence and welcome desk. Looking forward to how the newly expanded spaces are used in the future.
Ada Brown: The curator was exceptionally kind and allowed us to tag along on a full tour because he didn't want to turn us away. This is an amazing place and you should absolutely visit!
Jason Macey: This is one of the great private libraries on planet Earth. The fact that the Athenaeum allows non-members to tour the library ipso facto extraordinary.
David Kovalchik: I had been waiting to be in here for so many years! How wonderful!
Aimée Vincent Jamison: One of Boston's absolute gems. A gorgeous subscription library with lovely art. Membership is available for a reasonable annual subscription and they do offer periodic tours and events to the public. At the top of Beacon street right near the Statehouse. Step through the red doors and enter an oasis
Belle T: I always wanted to take the in person tour but it gets fill up quickly on weekends. My lucky day, 27AUG22, I got to see this historic building through the Art & Architecture Tour (1 Hr). If you like historic buildings and old books, this place will make you HAPPY like I did!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Esther Martin: This library is fabulous!
Jennifer Dantchev: Beautiful building, friendly and helpful staff!
Nicholas Rampone: Have debated membership for years, but am so grateful to now belong to this beautiful library. Aside from the showcase floors, the Athenaeum has countless nooks, perfect for indulging in a book or getting work done. Patrons are quiet and respectful; librarians are friendly and knowledgeable. If the BPL doesn't satisfy, take the plunge! I do wish the library was open on Sundays, however.
Sophia Zhang: Hidden gem in Boston. Be sure to book the art and architecture tour online in advance, best way to see the entire building. An interesting history and collection of rare books and maps, including Washington’s encyclopedia. Beautiful view out the window during fall time.
Roberto Castañeda: Raise your arms if you live this quaint first floor experience!(We see you eve and adam; Sophocles (say hi to Oed). And damsel out of marble... priceless
Walid S: First-class library with beautiful art, architecture, and a large collection of classic and new books.

rixhersa troplini: A peaceful place.
Heather G: Beautiful building. Very nice workers that help along the way! Loved seeing this historic site!
Clayton Smalley: Wonderful resource. If you're a Massachusetts resident you can be a member. Lots of online resources as well.
Derek Laza: Coming from a small town where we're just happy to have a library... This was shocking (in a good way) and awe-inspiring. We only had about 45 minutes, but wish we had hours to really take everything in.
Arwen L: Really liked the architecture of this place. Lots of place to study, read and relax!Visited on Weekend Wait time No wait …More
Sabrina ortiz: Mon coup de cœur de BostonMagnifique
Brennan Rosales: Amazing building.
Rebecca Davis: Beautiful library
Earl Schamehorn: Unbelievable. So much beauty so muck history. Wow.
Veronic Veronic: A must-visit when you’re in Boston. Friendly staff and a very peaceful place. The old building was truly a gem!
Nicholas Spardy: Good place to read a book.
Omar Albarghouty: A must-visit while in Boston.
Ahmed Metwally: This was such a great experience.
Francy Paola Castillo: This place its just amazing! History, architecture, the environment, this one is wonderful
Meki Banda BCoMS (BCoMS): Nice historic building and location. I recently gave this building a 5 star review but I'm retracting that. The management of the library is racist. Especially the bottom floor business center. They chase black people for absolutely nothing. I'm thinking of moving to another place to study.
Armond Chen: Great library with elegant buildings, combine traditional history and modern expression. Love the great reading hall, the atmosphere is full of gravata. An excellent example for civic facility. Save one star for next visit.
Maria Williams: I had the pleasure of visiting the Boston Public Library about year ago and I have to say, it was an absolutely incredible experience. I was blown away by the sheer size and beauty of the building. The architecture is stunning, with grand staircases and marble columns. The collection of books is truly remarkable. With comfortable seating areas scattered throughout the building, it's the perfect place to settle in and spend an afternoon with a good book.
twin peaks: Beautiful building with interesting rooms and pictures to look around, well worth a visit. If I lived here it would be a dream place to study.
Marcel Nienhuis: Amazing building. What a great place to study or work.

Bruce Duvelow: Awesome and amazing library.
Thinh Vo: The library staff were nice.
Jermyn Graham: Nice little community library, host a number of community programs preCovid-19: after-school, neighborhood meetings, summer Jazz concert...beautiful courtyard newly redone...add to the history of the South End...the staff is great and very friendly and personable. Love this quiet space.
Nadine M Jones-Ruffin: I could not go inside but the person helped. I was able to return my books without having to go to Copley. I wanted to go into the library.
Tacaras world: Excellent
Yuwei Fan: This branch is closedown till winter 2020.
Lark: Under renovation currently from oct 2019-winter 2020.
Marlene Mapp: Hi Good Morning All, I shout out to the library and staff this day because they made a great difference and impact on their hospitality and service to the community.Ms Margaret, you are so lovable and giving I want you continue and to let you know, we your guests notice and to say a hearth full thank you and have a Beautiful Day.ON BEHALF OF ALL THE NANNIES.
Gianni Newman: Fantastic place to study. However, the third floor can be quite louder than expected.
Anna Karaski: Great neighborhood library. Although it is a bit small and the book selection is a little limited(you can of course order stuff with the intra library loan to this branch) the realy outstanding librarians make up for it. The librarians at this branch are AWESOME...10/10 not only are they knowledgable, helpful, professional AND super nice but they also have quite a knowledge base about Boston in general and services outside of the library in Boston. It's also cozy and a nice place to just hang out and read or soak up the wifi.
Donovan R: I walked in and the man at the counter helped me right away and found my book for me! Next time though, I’ll look to do a little more browsing.
Reinhold Mahler: Zeitgeist Stage has been invited to present itself in one of the windows at the South End Branch of the BPL. We are honored and grateful for the opportunity and would like to thank the staff to be so supportive during the set-up. A big shout out also for Marleen Nienhuis, the president of the Friends of the Southend Library and last but not least Cathy Root for her incredible support to get this project up in time during the Holiday Season!
Kimberley Frank: The people who work at this library are so helpful and dedicated!!
Evangelist Angela Thomas: I agree with people it very nice love the staff
Lou: Ms Margaret is very sweet and creative with children and mothers! We are very happy to meet other mamas there and play with our kids. What could be improved is the cleaning system of the library. They have to clean more often since children play, crawl, lie on the floor, visit the restrooms..it will make a huge difference.
Shivika Nayyar: I moved to Boston one month ago and South End library has been a great find near my apartment. All the staff is very friendly and helpful. Childrens librarian, Ms Margaret is just wonderful! She gives her best to educate children and engage them in different activities all the time. My 1.5 yr old son is always excited to attend toddler story time here. Compared to the central library, I always feel special when I go here. A lovely welcome from all and a possibility to make new friends.Bonus: they are very close to sparrows park and there is a nice sitting area next to the library.I wish they had more space in the kids area and restrooms need a little bit of upgrade.
Matthew Taclof: Very quiet, and staff is quite friendly.
Lexxii: Really nice. Always ready to help. Great staff

South Boston Branch of the Boston Public Library: what do users think?
Rosemary Mitchell: Good service. Decorations for every holiday.
Robert Catanzano: Very clean and the staff is definitely helpful. I am from out of town and was able to get a guest pass for the computers.
Kathleen Sargent: Highly recommend this fun yet challenging gym environment and community!!!
T F: Friendly and helpful!!!
Liz Kaplan: The staff is wonderful and welcoming but the place needs a good cleaning. I brought my grandson there and he was crawling around in off-white pants. His knees were really dirty (actually brownish) after about 5 minutes on the floor where kids were playing. I'm posting here because it looks like they respond to comments.
Ruth Hendricks: Great librarians! Very helpful .
Jamie Simchik: The library staff was amazing!
Yi Li: I like this place!
Zey: Friendly staff and the printer works well.
Tim Heisler: May 17th 2021 was not allowed to use the printer due to Covid. Over a year later and they still won't allow citizens of South Boston. Personally I think it's a lazy excuse.. They wouldn't even allow me into the library. Probably needs new management. Sad that a public place is closed off to individuals who are fully vaccinated.
Megan Greiner: I love my local BPL
Jorge ZZ: Really?
Chris Carson: Looks like hangout for southie nannies. Kids can get pretty loud.
Charles Akwari: The workers and receptionist were very helpful. Its a very welcoming library and well coordinated. Kudos to the management.
Eric Boisvere: It's nice and small, sometimes have to deal with screaming kids but can't wrong the library for it
Kirstin: The librarians are helpful, knowledgeable and nice. I am thankful for having this branch in South Boston.

We need to support public services like this!

Brighton Branch of the Boston Public Library: what do users think?
Briana: Nice library, lots of places to work or read. Also, a parking lot in back. Unfortunately a lot of people don't know library etiquette, like not talking on the phone and keeping their conversations to low volume. Wish the staff would keep this in control a bit more so it was quieter. Some days are nice, others are absolutely awful if you want to get work done.
Shira Frager: Friendly, helpful, nice library.
James O'Brien: Fantastic place!
Jeffrey Huber: Friendly and helpful staff!
Crystal: Very friendly people work here! It makes my day coming to this bpl branch :)
Barbara Fine: Everyone is extremely helpful and very pleasant.
Sade: Branch is nice and very well kept. Staff is really nice and helpful. I get museum passes and other helpful resources from here. They are very patient people. Very diverse which i think is a great thing. Great branch overall.
S J: Not the best place if you need absolute silence but it is a nice library that has good children's programs. Friendly, helpful staff.
Andrew Incaudo: I have had nothing but great experiences every time I’ve walked into this library. No matter who is working I get great help and they never seem to get impatient with all my questions! fahad ali: Good staff, they are very helpful.
Conor Ruane: Helpful staff
Michael: The BPL Brighton Branch has a small selection of books, but more importantly you can get books and DVDs from all the other BPL or Minute Man locations delivered here to pick up at your convenience. Even better, this library has a brand new outdoor seating are in the back so you can read and enjoy the fresh air.
Edgar Franco: Its ben a long minute.. Since i ben there.. Nice and cold.... Software is great.. Ty Brighton library.staff is Great🙏🙏🙏
Jitti C: My favorite library in greater Boston. Love the staffs here ❤️
Steve L: You can't go inside during this CV19 season, so I sat at a metal table in their courtyard under the sun and dappled shade from decades old oak trees.
REMS VIRUS: I live around here, very comfy.
Tim Rourke: Nice remodel
Matt Cook: Comfortable size with quiet areas to read or do work. Wasn't entirely impressed with their selection or variety of books, though.

Donna Debellis: I just moved to Dorchester and I went there for first time all staff and security guard are so nice. And friendly it's joyful place to visit ..love this
Renee Smrekar: It's quiet 🤫
Liming Chen: First time here with my family for Lunar New Year! I love it here!! Very good environment for kids and people that want to focus on studying or reading. It’s been years since college days to feel that way. I do enjoy being my kids here, they read books, meet other kids, and make friends and play together. Definitely coming back when I have free time!
tofudough: Very nice library with amazing staff that were very helpful. It was a great environment to study but I found the homeless and crackheads outside of the front door quite intimidating. The bench in front is constantly occupied by the altered which makes the entrance very uninviting.
May Ng: The staffs here are very nice and helpful.
Chris Bailey: Friendly staff, plenty of books! Hopefully they get the new building/remodel soon!!!!
Alonzo Jones: I enjoy being at this library. Please don't dare think about every closing it.
Kev p: T is an efficient transportation
Jennifer Phan: It's not the biggest library out there, but it's a nice place. The librarians are friendly and helpful.
Cliff Tayliam: I love using this library when ever im in Boston.
Andrea Rojas: Great library, very reliable
Deanna C.: Don't go here if you're looking for a quite place to do your work. The staff literally doesn't care if someone is playing music out loud or talking on the phone. New staff please. It's ridiculous!
Gwendolyn Gustave-Paul: The employees are rude and not helpful. There is an Asian gentleman who refused to help me. I just moved the the neighborhood and that was so unwelcoming. I never experienced such rudeness at the Oak Square branch in more old neighborhood.
Qui: Asian guy soooo rude
Wendys montero: Very interesting
sindy belizaire: The library is an old modest library. It's not big but there are computers. Also they always have after school programs for the kids. A lot of families in the neighborhood knows and trust all the staffs that work there... The staffs are very involved in the community as well...
Asia's Destiny: No complaints here always friendly and helpful.

East Boston Branch of the Boston Public Library: what do users think?
Bryant Narvaez: If you don’t mind some noise, it’s a perfect library to get some work done. Noise is primarily coming from children playing, but I won’t complain because 1/4 of the library space is dedicated to children, plus I have noise cancelling headphones.Architecturally, it’s a modern library with a great view of the greenway and a community garden. Very well built. It’s a pleasure visiting!
Austin Allen: Friendly staff and a great place to study! I love that it’s lively here. I just put in some earbuds so I could focus. If I forget my earbuds, I use the silent reading room to study
Rob Lyttle: Staff is always very helpful and kind, our kids always have a great time!
Humeyra Cirit: Very noisy! Kids come there to play and a lot mommies with crying babies sitting in kid section. Don’t go to stuy there
Mercedes Giorgio: Muy buena biblioteca, yo voy a una clases de inglés gratuitas que da! Tiene un pequeño estacionamiento a un costado para aquellos que vayan a ir
Josep Segalés: Vista desde la librería , parque público
Loretta Kelvins: A good place to study BUT the staff at the front desk talk so loudly. As a good librarian would say..."SHHHH!!!". Please be more respectful to everyone that comes here to get work done.
Jose Bonilla: Neat and clean good customer service
Rana Kayrala: A very warm and welcoming library providing fun activities for infants toddlers and children!
Manuel Fernandez: Attentive, corteous service of the reception desk employees.
S Maldonado: Great Asset
Luis Sandoval: Very nice architecture design, but very very loud. Sometimes there seems to be people working over calls because of the wifi or not really sure but a library is not a place to use a headset and make calls like crazy. One day a lady behind me was conducting an interview over call... So disrespectful to others.
Dan RK: Great neighbourhood branch
Valentina Magee: Amazing Ricardo the receptionist went out and beyond on helping he is so informative!
Jesse Kollins: Best library ever. Can't stop, won't stop.
Beatrice Benjamin: Loud af, don't come here to study
Johnny Reyes: Loud and not a lot of space to study
Veronica Gayer: It's modern, nice interior, nice location too ,but too noisy. It is quite a small place
Michelina DiMartino: Noisy library, including the staff. Also, some staff quite rude. I do not recommend coming here if you need to study.
Janet Gonzalez: Awesome selection of movies,an books,,staff are respectful an helpful,, great place to visit.
