Wanda Brown: We visited mid afternoon for a late lunch. The place was only 1/2 full but the noice level was very high to the point of not being able to chat with my dining partner. I had the Shepherds Pie and was not impressed. I’m used to a pie with a meat gravy - the tomato paste was more predominant than the gravy flavor. In addition, the potatoes were very dry and lumpy vs the creamy smooth topping that I like. The Irish coffee was good!
T.J. Haas: Came in for a few drinks prior to airport departure back to Florida and stayed until last possible minute. Great staff all around and shared stories with manager of the day Jamie. Great atmosphere, staff, and band that started at 5pm.Ready for a return trip already and will absolutely be returning to The Black Rose for all it has to offer. Tanya Comeaux: Visiting Boston you have to go to an Irish Pub and order Fish and Chips. They had a live Irish band playing music and the atmosphere was A-1. As we sit enjoying the music a young lady comes to our table with the same monotone look (and later voice) that she had for the duration of our visit. I do not like monotone service. I will take at least 1 smile and 1 influx in your voice but none is absolutely a no for me. Only reason I gave her a 2 star is because she made me a good Arnold Palmer.We ordered Fish and Chips at an Irish Pub and just knew it would take us to Ireland. We got closer to Ireland at Captain Ds. We had crinkle fries that I buy from dollar tree for my grandkids and fried mushy haddock (could have been cod but would not have made it better) that just was not good.We are well traveled and huge foodies. Aaron Frank: Great bar, great food. What you expect from an Irish pub bar. The live music was 5 star. However, it was a tat loud and we could barely talk. We brought it to the attention of the staff but they friendly said we see what we can do and left it loudly. I bet other times it may be better but it took off a star as we left daily quickly after the good food.

Justin Martin: Fantastic traditional Irish pub. The Shepherd's Pie is delicious, and every dish that I've tried has felt like it includes really quality ingredients. The whiskey and scotch selection is not extensive, but includes things I really like, so it works for me. I love the old building too, I always appreciate the aesthetics and functionality balance of past generations.

Liz Lobo: Our waitress was horrible but the food and drinks were good. After bringing our drinks and taking our order, we never saw our waitress again until she asked if we wanted the check. Really we wanted to order more drinks but we were afraid we’d never see her again so we just took the check. The Curry Chicken Poutine was delicious and was really big, enough to have as a meal! Fish tacos and shepherds pie were also good.

Bobbie Garrison: Stayed at the hotel next door, so I had the opportunity to visit the restaurant a few times. Very good food and ambience. A shout out to all the staff at Elephant & Castle, but particularly Christian, the bartender. Very efficient, friendly, knowledgeable, and makes a perfect old fashion. Give this place a try. Order the chicken pot pie or fish fry. You won't be disappointed.

Ian Masters: The last time I was here I was trying to find a place to watch a Red Sox/Yankees game and this was one of the only places in the area that wasn't completely full. There was a woman who was bouncing the door and charging cover because a band was playing. I tried to explain I wasn't there to watch a bunch of community college kids smash together some instruments but she still insisted on charging me. 3 stars.

Nachos could have used a few more chips, but they were loaded as hell.Drinks are pretty good too- standard pricing and the waitresses are good. It's a pretty cozy bar. Great place if you're out with the crew and wanna hang out.But to provide some context on the UFC fight: the cable went out right before the main fight and the bar went into a tizzy cuz the cover was $20 for the pay per view cost. Customers were demanding a refund, but it wasn't granted. So if you hear anyone mentioning the fight, that's what happened. Sure the managers could have handled it a bit better, but cut them some slack: it's a good pub.

I've had her as my server a bunch of times when I've come in for trivia and I've also had her when I've come to grab drinks after a game at the garden. She's always so personable, remembers me, remembers what my order is, and chit chats with us about our life and how we've been since the last time we were in. If you're ever around the West End I HIGHLY recommend popping into Porter's and asking for Jody. She'll make your whole experience even better. She's an absolute delight.

lisa almada: My first time visiting JJ Folley restaurant was the day before St. Patrick’s Day this year of 2023. I sat back and watched this waiter “hustle” with a “friendly smile” on his face to all the customers he was serving, and was impressed by the way he handled everything. At the end of my stay, I asked to speak to the manager……And, when I did, I found out the gentleman’s name was Mike( the owners son) and it was his father, who owns the restaurant. “ Kudos to Mike” for providing us “excellent service” and I most definitely will come back again when I’m in the Boston area. It feels like a familiar place even to people checking it out for the first time. My friends and I were suppose to be enjoying a "pub crawl" that was poorly organized. We decided to venture on our own and suggested we go to JJ Foley's. Our friends had the best time. The staff was kind and friendly making jokes with us. The atmosphere was welcoming and we met many new and interesting people. This is a boston gem!

Emile Rochon: How can I begin? Firstly, we were a sport student team (in their 20's) that tried to enjoy a last meal all together before the competition. I wouldn't be writing this if the service that we had was particulary bad. They forgot my plate. It happens, I don't blame that but no waiter was near our table, even if we were almost the only client in the restaurant. The prices were way to expensive for the quality of the food.When it was time to pay, they refused to split our bill for each person (or at least find a way to lower our bill/student rate). It was sure a suprise, but not a good one. It is sure a lack of self-judgment to say that a bill of 500$+ for a student is acceptable.I give a 2-stars review because I do my ratings by negative "correction":(-1) star for the lack of presence of waiter when needed(-1) star for the fact that they refused to split our bill(-1) star for the high prices for the quality of the foodWheelchair accessibility: No accessibility for people with physical incapacities...
Vee H: Host seem to be unavailable to seat you or get a name to place you on a waitlist. They don't provide any information such as aside from outdoor seating, there is also a bar and an upstair dine in area. So if host is not assisting you, feel free to go inside and figure it out yourself, or you will be ignored. We came here to try the clam chowder. It was good but pretty pricy for the portion size. The bartender was nice and provided good service, unlike the host.

Maria D'Alessandro: My husband and I enjoyed a casual early dinner here on a Friday. The atmosphere is lively and we had an intimate table by the window. We chose a couple of appetizers. The pesto hummus was so good! I enjoyed a spinach salad with salmon amd my husband had a chicken sandwich and chowder. The waitress, Megan, was very attentitive, made suggestions and asked for any special requests. My husband enjoys the Guineess beer on draft and said it was very fresh. I had the Heineken Zero which was surprisingly good.

Julie Coast: When I called to place an order the guy that answered the phone was so extremely rude that he hung up on me before I could ask how to pay. When I called back and told him I was going to use a CC and how do I pay, he was so rude and laughed at me and mocked me when I asked him to hold on for a second to get my card out. I would NEVER order from this place again! The pizza toppings slid right off the pizza, didn’t add pepperoni as ordered, and there was no sauce. Don’t waste your money!

Carmen Ilardi: Kelly's Pub is one of the few good, local casual dining restaurants left in East Boston. A lot of people go just for take-out. The owner is nice, the waitresses are sweet and attentive. The bartender is very nice and on top.of things (for a busy bar). I go whenever I have company (I don't cook). They have a Touch Tunes jukebox with unlimited selections. I wish more people would use it.Kid-friendliness: For better of for worse, many times there are kids there.

Sokha Chea: We put in an order for a delivery. They called and told me they had no driver comig to my area (I live 7 mins away) so I had to go and pick it up. They had forgotten my soda in my order and when I called they said they will refund. Did not even ask for my name and no refund in my account. It has been one month. Pizza was also very soggy. Not too much care was put in. Very dissatisfied with the service here

Ryan Daley: St Patrick's Day '23. Wait 30 min. to pounce on vacated seating. Many others and I sit at dirty tables for over an hour waiting for any waitstaff to come within shouting distance to bus dirty dishes, and take order. Still waiting...Drink and App order taken along with my card (up front) about 15 minutes ago. Still no drink (or app.)... Going to go to the bar with cash.They closed the kitchen before 9 with no warning so no dinner after the app. Here from 6-9+ and couldn't even order dinner. Took 2 hours to get served. Yes it was St Pat's but won't be back. O'Connor's in Worcester is 3x the size and capacity and their service puts this place to shame. Worth the drive, but get there and home safely & responsibly.

Very crazy on St. Patrick's Day; the staff was doing their best, but very crowded and slow to get food or drink, but well worth it when we did.Got the Foley Fireball and Duck Poutine Fries, as well as an excellent Shepard's pie. Would highly recommend... Just maybe pick a less busy night.

Then he said the order never came in then slammed a tray next to me. I felt the racist tension. All white bar and grille.

Called in advance to make a reservation, was told they would check what time and put me on hold for 15 minutes. I was nearby anyway so I walked over and got right in. Was seated and I'm still waiting for a waitress after 15 minutes of sitting at the table. Likely won't be able to try any of the food here.Update-when we did get service (fyi..place was not busy), the food arrived quickly and we had the trio sampler which was excellent. Very happy about the food which outweighed the service.

Kelly Cambridgeport: Emmets, where have you been all my life? I took a different walking path to the Boston Athenaeum and came across this cute pub. On my way back home, I decided to try it out. The onion soup and the fish and chips are both remarkable. The fried fish is one of the best I have tasted, and I have eaten many a fish and chips. Fries were piping hot, coleslaw creamy and top-notch. Full ketchup bottle on the table. The servers were very attentive and friendly. They checked frequently on their guests and refilled water. Definitely coming back. Hostesses were very helpful and friendly.

Arwen L: To enter, you need to bring your ID. Ordering all takes place at one of the kiosk. Once you finish ordering, you wait at the kitchen window area for your food to be ready. Food seems affordably priced here and there are plenty of seating space. Many people liked the salad there. I liked the fish and chips! A nice spot to grab a quick bite on campus!

Mona Jalal: I went there for the first time through an event Newbury Center for first-generation students organized. It was an amazing night of great food and great drink. I am not even a wing person but the wings they have here is extremely delicious. The bartender, Jason, was extremely nice and he made me and two of my friends a drink out of the menu, “Blue Hawaiian”. They had a similar drink in their menu minus the coconut rum and pineapple juice. I tried it from another friend’s glass and didn’t like it all that much. But the Blue Hawaiian he made us was so delicious. I would definitely go back there again and again and again. It’s such a shame I am in BU for nearly 5 years and just learned about this great pub just in the heart of BU. Again, thanks a lot to Newbury Center for taking us here. I was very engaged in the conversation with my friends so we didn’t take part in the ongoing game for the event but lots of people had fun with it. The pub is extremely cozy and must try.

Simon Huynh: Got invited by the math people after a BU math talk. Great vibe/music and a good selection of drinks. Didn't get to try any food this time though.
Destinee Berry: The food was good, the drinks even better, and the service is stellar. They have a good taste of music, and you can do work there if you want to. They stay open late. It's kind of upscale, no yelling and shaking.

C E: Wow!! More stars if I could. Not everyday you get to hang out in a castle with your friends and drink beers. Every castle needs a queen and this one has Shaina, who was the host that greeted us. Very friendly and welcoming, and even went out out of her way to get us waters when our waitress was taking a bit longer than expected. We evntually tipped her because she was so nice!! Cool place GREAT beer selection and the food was good too. When you go hopefully Shaina will be there to greet you.
