Boston Martial Arts Center: what do users think?
L AR: I have been training at Boston Martial Arts for more than 10 years. After trying a number of different martial arts and schools, I was thrilled to find a dojo that is inclusive and diverse, offers a fun and cooperative learning environment, and teaches a really engaging and interesting art. After having had a bad experience at another dojo I realized how important it is to have a teacher that I deeply respect and whom I could see myself learning from for a very long time, and Mr. Mark Davis is that for me.I trained here throughout my grad school years and return to train whenever I can even though I no longer live in the area because the school and the art have beclme an important part of my life.Highly recommend.
Aditi Agrawal: Positive:Professionalism,ValueExtremely good. An important component in my daily life . :)
Andrew Norton: Truly unique and amazing atmosphere. Although I am simply a beginner, I have trained in different martial arts systems in the past, and the Boston Martial Arts Center is by far the best school I have trained at. Our teacher, Mark Davis is perhaps the best individual I have studied under in any field. The entire staff are amazing ; welcoming, professional, fierce practitioners. This is 'Real Self Defense' and a fascinating system. As students we also benefit from being in a School that has direct connections to Mr. Stephen K. Hayes, and Hatsumi Sensei. Unbeatable!
Cyrus Bardouille: I liked the focus the classes and environment helped me to develop. Being able to channel my hyper activity into calming my spirit and building mind and body allowed me to grow.
No Name: I've been a student here for ten years. I've trained at other martial arts schools, and in other systems, and I have never found a more welcoming place, where the instructors are not only dedicated to giving their students the best training in self defense available, but also to helping their students better themselves through the martial arts. Mark Davis, the head teacher, keeps the atmosphere fun and family friendly, while also delivering the most serious treatment on the subject of getting home safely. This isn't a sport martial arts school; the training available here has only one purpose- to keep you safe. It has the added side effects of building confidence, agility, strength, and a sense of purpose. This school really brings out the best in people, and the people who train and teach here are the best in the world.
Joe Szep: Mark Davis is a highly knowledgable, friendly, and patient instructor. He is a rare source of accumulated knowledge and wisdom. You are encouraged to learn new skills and develop yourself. I have made many friends at the dojo. It feels like family to me there. Whether you are interested in learning self-defense or martial arts, you should come by, check out the dojo, and try a class!
Jennifer Kronmiller: great atmosphere.
Robert R.: Bad Atmosphere.

Oom Yung Doe - 8 Martial Arts - Boston: what do users think?
Benjamin Zaroukian: I have been training in the school of Oom Yung Doe for over twenty years. When I started in college I was shocked by how quickly and profoundly it helped me to improve mentally and physically. As the years have gone by, I have continued my training and experienced these benefits even more deeply, along with a growing sense of peace in my daily life. To this day, I challenge myself with this training because I continue to find it to be the most powerful self development method I have ever experienced.
Pascale Batieufaye: I’m pleased with Oom Yung Do’s energy & martial arts knowledge. It takes expertise, experience, & caring to manifest thru solid training; this institution does it for your health. They also offer a basis for training with different Kung fu weapons, an added, practical tool to expand your defensive skills.
robert yagudayev: This place does not recognize my belts in training Taekwondo kickboxing and BJJ no respect says I should start white belt.
Rodinei Silva: I'm going to write my honest review based on my experience with the art. I have a lot of respect for Alex Goode for he helped me a lot during a time when I needed it. The school however has questinable roots which are not documented outside of the material wrote by the school itself, you can't find evidence of the claims made about the oeigins of the school anywhere, which is odd given that highly traditional martial arts clans document their entire lineages... They also host questionable practices. I view Oom Yung Doe as an esoteric practice moreso than a martial art. There is no sparring or rolling, only rehearsed moves with little to no resistance. So if you're looking to learn how to fight you're better off signing up for brazilian jiu-jitsu, kickboxing/muay thai or ideally mma. Oom Yung Doe has value for the development of the body and mind but it's also too expensive to train and to attend all the seminars you're suggested to attend. Like a lot of money, thousands of dollars for each seminar and a few hundred a month to train. They also make the wildest claims about super skills possessed by the deceased founder Iron Kim or Master Jerry and the "high level instructors". None of them which have ever been in a documented fight or competition. The claims are completely absurd and have also never filmed... in 2022... If a guy could jump from an 8-story building while doing a flying side kick and drifiting down like a feather (that is the claim made for a technique called kyong gong sul bope) there would be video evidence of it, and there's only one picture which doesn't show anything. Since there is no sparring and nobody there actually fights, I believe they can't really fight, except on theory. A trained mma practitioner with a few months will have gained a lot more combat experience than the black belts in Oom Yung Doe. Also, they have programs which you can pay to accelerate the rate at which you get your black belt. While in bjj or muay thai it takes usually around 10-15 years to get a black belt, in Oom Yung Doe it's common for people to get it in a year or two. If you're looking for a holistic activity to get healthier and to spend some dough on, go for it. If you want to learn how to actually fight, this isn't the place.
fun is with Alyssa and papa yeah: Been studying a couple of months now. Great instructors, great school recommend to everyone no matter how old you are. Five Stars
Jean J: Always wanted to gain knowledge and skill in Martial Arts! Oom Yung doe is the best place to train and grow. It will literally change your life!!!
luis alberto quiel: Great training!
Anna Nolan: Rude and condescending instructor
Tim Maslow: This testimonial needs context. I am a 35 year old broken chef, physically and mentally. Correction, I was a 35 year old broken chef. For years the pitfalls of working in professional kitchens have plagued my body and mind. Finding a path with Oom Yung Doe is inexplicable, but I will do my best. When I first met Instructor Patrick (who is now a close friend) I wrote him off as oddly intense. Why was he so energetic, or positive. All. The. Time. Even in the face of a restaurant meltdown, never a beard hair ruffled. He would always ask me to train, or give me stretches as I was so clearly out of shape and always in some sort of physical or mental anguish. He always knew. Im not really sure when I started to listen. I think it was his persistence and annoyingly positive attitude that got me to my first class. Man did I hate that first class. Not because it was hard but because I was not good at it.Here I was generally coasting through life, fairly good at anything I tried. Right away generally. Then this shows up? Challenging my mind?, Body?, Focus?, Mental stamina?, My entire being, to be better. Not just physically but existentially as well. Any physical ailments that lingered for years, gone after a only few months of work with the instructors. Any notions of my physical limitations out the window with a lot of other negative habits. And now, working on enlightenment. Could we have found a better time for higher meaning? The practicing is not easy, nor should you skip days at a time if you like the way you feel. The instructors are there for you. Even during this pandemic. Always guiding, encouraging with their gentle, relaxed demeanor. The way I see it, it took me my entire life to find these people. People who don't quit, don't back down, and never say never. The people I was looking for. I owe it to everyone who has trained in traditional Moo Doe the respect it deserves.Yeah i'm physically fit these days. Yeah I can run a an 8 minute mile. Yeah I can do a bunch of situps. But all of that seems dwarfed by the mental clarity training brings, the peacefulness, the happiness. And it continues to get better. The more work I put in, the more rewarding it gets.I would gladly promote this school to anyone I know, any age. Consider the price your offertory, because this is church. Your mind and body are worth more than you think. Come and find your path.
Nicole Radunsky: Update: I've been training at Oom Yung Doe for a little over a year now. The woman who walked in to the school then would never have thought my current self was possible. The chronic illness that had improved in two weeks is now completely gone. (I couldn't work or even be on my own safely for 9 years, this is a HUGE for me.) My scoliosis is decreasing, my back is strong and flexible in ways I never imagined possible. I am in by far the best shape of my life, I'm flexible, my balance has dramatically improved. Not only my body but my mind is healing. I am learning how to help myself through everything from everyday dips in mood to long term change like healing PTSD.That's really the magic at Oom Yung Doe-- the movements become a toolkit to help you improve your life, and the instructors know and understand these tools beautifully. Want to lose weight? Gain discipline? Tame anxiety? Sleep better? Feel more joy? Control chronic pain? You will learn here. This school honestly gave my life back and then so much more. It is a one stop shop for community, fitness, mindfulness, self improvement, and entertainment. I can't say enough, you just have to stop by and try it for yourself..........................I started at Oom Yung Doe a little over two weeks ago. Since then I have seen dramatic and positive changes in almost every aspect of my life. Physically, the chronic illness I have been battling for 8 years has improved. I am stronger and more flexible, my balance is far better, and my reflexes are sharpened. My lifelong back pain has also almost entirely resolved— which is startling given that I have spent years working with physical therapists and chiropractors with no gains. The balanced, thoughtful, and personally tailored approach is something I have never seen elsewhere and makes Oom Yung Doe absolutely accessible to people of all ages and abilities. The instructors are knowledgeable and caring, and the space is beautiful.
Lakshmi Srinivasan: I've done various forms of martial arts on and off for over twenty years, and this school is by far the best I've trained at. The instructors are tremendously knowledgeable, and incredibly committed to their students. I joined in September 2017 with several chronic injuries, and I've received so much support in dealing with them - both in terms of movements and healing to do, and in terms of keeping me motivated and continuing to train. The other students are welcoming and encouraging, and it's been amazing to be part of this community.
Amanda Russell-Bolio: Update: Initially wrote this for the N. Cambridge school. N. Cambridge has since merged with the Somerville school. Still stand by my review. Somerville has been just as welcoming and the majority of Instructors are the same.I’ve been a student at Oom Yung Doe N. Cambridge for about three months.#MeToo first brought me to Oom Yung Doe. In need of a restorative something or other to recoup my waning confidence, a women’s self defense class seemed a prudent choice. After a few weeks of Saturday afternoon classes, sure I was beginning to feel a bit more confident. But not just confident, happier, and calmer than I’d been in a long time. An unexpected plot twist. It was after one lesson in particular that the head instructor began speaking about the merits of training. How it influences all parts of your life. He said it was great to be able to remain calm and focused under physical attack, but that we would find this calm and focus transferred into all areas of our lives. Work, relationships, friendships, etc. My plot twist had resurfaced. After a considerably rough couple of years, I couldn’t let this just be for my spare Saturdays. I needed this. I decided to become a full time student. One of the best decisions I’ve ever made. This, I cannot say enough about, these are good teachers. They are infinitely patient (I’ve tested this. Like a lot.), they challenge you just enough, and if you don’t understand something they’ll explain it six different ways until you do instead of making you feel two feet tall. These instructors know their stuff (I’ve tried to stump em. Imma keep tryin’ though.), they’re quick to laugh, and they genuinely care. About a month in, my poor knees began whingeing. I received weekly texts from the Instructor inquiring as to how I was doing and giving me bits of advice on stretching and strengthening exercises. The amount of time and support they dedicate to their students really sets them apart. They’re also keenly aware of how intricately intertwined the mind and body are. When you go prodding one, the other is bound to turn up like a bad penny. They take it in stride when it does. You don’t get the, “There’s no crying in baseball!” speech. Seems like they’ve been there; they get it.I will also add that the personal awareness that I’ve had in these short few months has been tremendous and given me more food for thought than I ever anticipated. I thought I was going in there to learn to punch things. Happily and I’ll admit, often times begrudgingly I walk out with way more insight into myself each day.I’ve been welcomed into a beautiful little community at OYD and I will forever be grateful.
Lily O'Neill: I’ve been training for a little over 3 years now, and I can honestly say with total confidence I have never been this physically fit & mentally strong in my entire life.
Mariam Dahbi: I've enjoyed training at Oom Yung Doe, it's the perfect place for anyone looking to strengthen body and mind, and ultimately bring the two together as one. Highly recommend!
Tyler Dowdie: Training has changed the lens of which I view life. The movements are challenging and I’ve never felt my body move this way — ever! I’ve gained confidence, and feel more comfortable with being able to defend myself in any given situation. I’d recommend the school of Oom Yung Doe to anyone looking to improve! It’s a challenge for sure, but one that’s been worth it every step of the way.
Lana Tsurikova: This school gave me more than I expected. I came in three years ago looking to improve my knees, which had multiple injuries and surgeries. Now my flexibility is back, my knee issues are managed, and I enjoy doing jumps, kicks, and rolls again. I started learning the Drunken Fist form, something that I thought only Jackie Chan could do.Since the school combines 8 disciplines, everybody has an opportunity to find and learn what they are passionate about. The school has a well balanced schedule, so even those with busy lives benefit from attending lessons when possible.
Olha Shirpal: l like this school very much. My son has been training for a few month here and I already see great improvements in my son's physical stamina and strength and overall self-confidence. Thank you so much!
Jo-Anna Lloyd: Oom Yung Doe is an excellent studio for anyone who wants learn martial arts but also improve focus, coordination, confidence, self-awareness, and mental as was as physical condition. The studio is clean and bright. But most importantly, the instructors are pleasant, supportive, intelligent, mindful, and committed to their students. I am particularly impressed with the individualization that is offered and the kindness of everyone I have met there. It is an environment filled with positivity, challenge, and respect.
Remo Zimbaldi: Okay....let's say you're over 60, like me. And let's say your horribly out of shape, like me. And lets say your knees hurt, your hips hurt, your shoulder hurts....your HAIR hurts, all just like mine do. And let's say you're not thrilled with the idea of joining a gym because you know you'll just pay for it and use it a few times, then start slacking off and eventually just stop going.....kind of like I felt back in April. Okay....here's a plan: Give this school a try!! Trust me....I was as skeptical as anyone when I first walked through their front door 8 months ago. But you know what? I've lost over 70 pounds in 2018, and I can directly attribute at LEAST 35 pounds of that to Oom Yung Doe. I go to class two or three times a week, I get some really good, low-impact cardio and strength-training while I'm there, I'm getting out of the house in the evening and meeting some new and interesting people, and yes, I've learned a few self-defense skills along the way!! I won't lie to you....I still have aches and pains in ALL of my joints, but I'm feeling those aches and pains WAYYY less these days, and all my achey joints are WAYYY more flexible these days (I no longer fear having a heart attack every time I bend over to tie my shoes!!) I'm sleeping better, I'm generally moving around through my days MUCH more comfortably, and people at work tell me I'm a whole lot easier to get along with in recent months (I didn't even know there was a problem, but I guess I was getting a bit crabby in my old age!!) And my lung power!! Wow....what a difference 8 months of these classes has made!! And let me take a moment to talk about the instructors......they're AMAZING. Every one of them is well-qualified to teach, and every one of them are friendly, easy-to-work-with, and just totally attentive to my "special needs" as the "Old Fat Guy" in the room!! No one is judging me except me, and they're always very, very careful to never allow me to get ahead of myself, or do anything that goes beyond the limits of what my own body will allow me to do. They all take steps and issue guidance to help me progress in my skills.....WITHOUT HURTING MYSELF. This is a school I heartily recommend to anyone like me, who wants to find a non-gym way to look and feel younger and stronger, while having some real fun and meeting very nice and interesting people along the way!!
hussein syed: I took my son here because i was concerned about his weight gain and that he wasn't getting enough cardio. Within a month i noticed the difference. The program is great for kids weight loss and the discipline the children learn along the way is a added benefit.
August Baby: This review and my praise for the school of Oom Yung Doe is long overdue! My son has been training with assistant regional head instructor Andrew for several years. Andrew is commendably patient with kids of various ages and abilities, very knowledgeable and skilled both at teaching and in the art of this martial discipline; the classes are always very efficient and organized; and I can clearly see great improvements in my son's physical stamina and strength, coordination, and overall self-confidence.

Yang's Martial Arts Association Boston: what do users think?
John Cataldo: Excellent productive, creative learning environment staffed with learned and caring staff !In an
Matt Johnson: i went to an intro class in push hands that turned into a nightmare. the class was taught by two instructors one of which was not actually an instructor. We started pushing hands and when i bested the "non instructor who formerly was a state trooper, he dropped his shoulder and pommeled me upward into my jaw. He broke 5 teeth and dislocated my jaw. i do not recommend this school.
zenaida Gonzalez: My son enjoys it a lot
George Dominguez: Great place, full of love and respect.
Ali Mammadov: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,Value
Rachel Nenner-Payton: Ben is playful and rigorous. A perfect combination for our 7 year old son.
Nicholas Boston: There are plenty of "McDojos" all over - this, is not one of them. The moment you start training traditional martial arts at YMAA, you realize what's real and what's fake. If you expect training to be easy, you will be sorely mistaken (note: the training here is always extremely careful.) The instructor is amazing and you immediately feel like (and become a part of) a family. I cannot recommend this school enough!

Back to Basics Martial Arts & Fitness: what do users think?
Anthony Eid: Last summer, I was living in Boston for my job and was unfamiliar with the area's MMA gyms. After researching several options, I decided to check out Back to Basics. From the first class, I knew it was the perfect place for me to spend my summer training. The community at the gym is fantastic because everyone is friendly, supportive, and dedicated to their training. The classes are well thought out, and the curriculum is concise and effective. Most importantly, Jeff is an exceptional coach who empowers his students to develop their own style while also pushing them to surpass their physical and mental limits.Looking back, I have fond memories of my time training at this gym, and I hope to return someday. If you're looking for a truly special place to train, I can't recommend Back to Basics enough. You won't just be welcomed into a gym, you'll be welcomed into a community.
Ruben C: Great spot, good vibes. Jeff is super awesome and runs a great place with welcoming vibes and really good students
James Afonso: Jeff is a great instructor and knows how to push his students. Great people great training.
Vishnu Patel: Jeff runs a good gym with good people and even better Jiu jitsu
Ali Bobi: Back to Basics is an amazing place to train with a friendly environment molded by Jeff Perez. To show my appreciation, I have written a rhyming haiku:Jeff is the man. Woo!He is my coach and pal too.We love Jiu-Jitsu.
Brenden Riggs: I travel fairly often for work and like to hit up the local Jiu Jitsu Gyms when possible.Though I was only able to attend two classes, it became immediately obvious that there are a ton of skilled people at this gym. And it's clear why:Jeff (the owner) has done a great job of fostering an amazing gym culture here. There's a perfect balance of not taking yourself too seriously, while also seriously working to improve everyone at the gym. Jeff discusses technique with students, but also the mindset/philosophy you should have when rolling.Great gym. Do yourself a favor and stop by if you're in the Boston area.
Xanthea Nikopoulos: If I could rate ten stars, I would. I started BJJ on a whim and was so nervous I would be completely out of my element, but I felt so accepted and encouraged with Jeff and the team.Women = completely safe spaceEveryone = respectful to the max, the more experienced people are always down to help and there is a strong spirit of camaraderie and learning rather than competitionGym = easily accessible on Newbury StreetEquipment = always clean and safeCoaches = the bestHow you feel knowing you get to go here on weeknights and learn to choke people out = badass
Will Meadows: This is one of the most welcoming gyms I’ve been too. Jeff cares deeply about each of his students and wants to see them improve. Very happy with my experience here.
Brett Turner: I’ve trained at many boxing & mma gyms, and I can’t say enough good things about Back to Basics. The instructors are experienced and charismatic, and do a great job of creating a welcoming & fun environment where people can challenge themselves at their own pace. The people who train here range from first timers to people who are actively competing, and the culture really is one where people check their egos at the door and are really good to each other. All in all a great place to train!
Jason Foster: I've been to a lot of gyms and back to basics has by far one of the best environments and communities. Everyone from the coaches to the students are extremely welcoming and the coaching is second to none. Jeff coaches in such a way that everyone will walk away from a class having learned something regardless of skill or prior experience. Regardless of your goals, if you're looking to get in shape, learn self defense, or compete this is an amazing gym.
Manuel Sobol: First time doing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and had a very positive experience. Jeff is incredibly kind, passionate, and knowledgeable. The community and environment was very friendly and made learning easy. Highly recommend taking a class and training there.
Tim Reiss: The instructor Jeff Perez is an incredible professor. I've been working with him off and on for the last 6 months or so and have been learning a ton of exciting techniques. I forgot how addicting Brazilian Jiu Jitsu can be. He's created an ego-free culture at the gym where everyone is friendly and comes to learn and improve. Highly recommend.
Ryan King: I've been training with Coach Jeff for about a year now in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, and fitness in both a private and class setting. I can without hesitation say that I am in the best shape of my life both physically and mentally thanks to this training. The Martial Arts program that Coach Jeff provides focuses on the understanding of body mechanics that allow you to feel confident going up against any opponent no matter what advantage they may have over you on paper. At Back to Basics you get out what you put in so whether you want to get into better shape and learn how to defend yourself or become a competitor in your combat sport of choice, there is no better place to reach those goals.
Aneesh Naik: I've been training with Jeff for about two years now, since the time he used to teach at Sityodtong Boston. He's able to teach what is an inherently complicated sport in a way that is easily understood, regardless of your current skill level. If effective and practical (and fun!) martial arts is what you are looking for, look no further.
Victoria Sirois: I have been learning from coach Jeff for almost 3 years now and I absolutely love it!JiuJitsu wasn’t something I ever thought I would try until a good friend of mine convinced me to take a class and I was hooked. Jeff is a fantastic teacher and creates such a welcoming environment that I cannot stress enough, so much so that everyone should sign up immediately! So come have a ball with- us laughing on the mats, learning fun ways to get fit *gasps, it exists!* while learning to defend yourself.
Samara Gallegos: I came into the gym with no jiujitsu experience and what I found was a very welcoming environment filled with friendly people who want to learn and have fun. I have known Jeff for four years now from when he used to teach kick boxing lessons at Title. He is very patient and encouraging while he is teaching, and he has a extensive professional background in MMA. The way he teaches breaks down the lessons in an easy and understandable way no matter your level.
Porom Shivam Kalita: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,ValueThe best bjj gym in Boston!
David Sabin: I've trained in multiple cities under a couple of the biggest banners in jiu jitsu, and Jeff is one of the best coaches I've had. He's an engaging teacher with a focus on technique that has proven effective in both competition and self defense scenarios, irrespective of an individual's body type or athletic ability. If lineage is thing that's important to you, as an SBG black belt, he's got that covered too. Long story short--Jeff's building a fun and dangerous team out in Back Bay, and I highly recommend you come check it out.
Jon-Paul Lapena: The people at this gym feel like family. The instructor, Jeff, shows great passion for teaching, and his coaching comes with a lot of patience and attention; shows great respect to the craft. The new gym is intimate, with easy access from the Green Line (about a minute walk). Also, street parking is easy to come by at this time, so I wouldn't worry about paying garage fees. Training in jiujitsu was intimidating for me at the start, but I began to see progress about two-months into it, so stick to it! It's definitely worth the hard work.

Brazilian Top Team Boston: what do users think?
Yahya Kaddouri: I just wanna know if this club still open.
Dexterity: I’ve been training here for 4 years, it’s a great place and great teachers. Jiu-jitsu changed my LIFE
Tata’s Vlog: My kids has been going there for the past 6 years , great environment,Awesome teachers ! i really recommend it !!
Ricardo R: I’ve been training at BTT Boston since 2009. Great atmosphere, a lot of higher belts and Prof. Daniel Gazoni (5th degree black belt) is a pioneer of BJJ in New England with over 20 years of experience. This sport had helped us a lot in the positive way. We meet so many people from many places, people from different countries, and we always learn something from each other. Highly recommended.
Louis Turner: Went for a BJJ class a few years ago it was good, returned to Boston to see family, this week and have tried several times to call, tried several times to chat online and even left an email before I came, to ask about a few things...no response at all. I HAVE called during hours posted(hours which the website says yall are open), have tried to chat during hours posted online as open and having class...no response. Today there was supposed to be a muay thai class at 12, I got there at 1215, no one was there.I'm curious if the scheduled times are accurate as during those hours no one answered the phone when I called. I know it's not all about me but its frustrating when reaching out about class times, payment(which wasn't working online) etc and no response is given, not even after the fact. The muay thai class, an instructor Leo were great, but due to poor lack of communication, its a one star affair.Be well. "Ish"
Patrick: Bah!!!…ruhhh…..uh

Gimena DeFilpo: Nice place I wish I can give them a 5 star but the jiu jitsu for kids there didn’t went well for my 8 years old ! Other kid BROKE his finger just bc he didn’t tap out on the mat !! The kids was the same age but more experience . My just started and learning . I called the manager few times nobody call me back . My child really want to learn jiu jitsu but after few hours at EMERGENCY room of course he don’t want to back there . BROKE FINGER!! Very sad .
Kenneth Siriani: Best group of guys and gals around and the instructors are second to none. Very competitive ( they teach but also compete at a very high level) and make it challenging and fun at the same time. I’ve got life events I’m going though, but look forward to returning. I genuinely like coming here as I consider many here my friends
Leticia Ugiete: Critical:Professionalism
alexander pabrezis: Amazing great school and unbelievable instructor's and some of the best people students I've ever meet
perry gagnon: Honestly I can't even begin to say enough great things about Brazilian top team Boston they have a team or better yet said a "family" that is welcoming to all. The atmosphere caters to just about anyone. Those who may be competitive, people that may just be looking to lose weight while learning a valuable skill set. it really doesn't matter because under this roof it's managed and instructed by Professor Daniels a real gem in the jiu-jitsu community. also followed by his many successful black belts who are always willing to share with and progress all students. if you're looking for a loyal honest family based jujitsu academy that will give you the results you're looking for this is probably the one give them a try, you won't regret it!
Fabio Incalado: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueProfessor Daniel is the best professor you can have. The team is super nice, I learned a lot and have a lot of fun.
Daniel De Oliveira: Best Jiu Jitsu gym Metro Boston. Professor Daniel Gazzoni is very knowledgeable and personable. Great atmosphere.
Zakaria Azeggouar Wallen: One of the best gyms out there. Has very different style from Brazilian jujitsu to muathai and Olympic style taekwondo. Friendly instructors. Great with kids. Multiple blackbelt during BJJ.

CW Taekwondo at Boston: what do users think?
Sarthak Jena: A great place to learn taekwondo and improve fitness. Open and welcoming to anyone looking to learn martial arts from skilled instructors. A supportive community atmosphere as well.
johany montes: My children have been going to CW Taewando for many years now, although my youngest moved on to softball and gymnastics, my son continued all the way to receiving his Jr. Black belt. The instructor are so knowledgeable, reliable, patient, encouraging and just overall good people. Taewando has help my son work on perseverance, focus, and building his confidence. I am grateful for this sport and the instructors. Highly recommend to try and stick through Taewando even when your child tries to give up, because the end result is life changing, and rewarding for you and your child.
Casey Denham: My home away from home! A great place to train and an even better community!
Mike Harb: CW TaeKwonDo Boston is an amazing martial arts school. The community is extremely supportive and welcoming. It is a non-profit organization where the instructors and officers volunteer their time. They do it because they love it, which makes for a very unique atmosphere. It was founded by a group of University graduates who combine intelligence as well as athletic excellence with passion and care. The Youth program is second to none - helping kids learn discipline, respect, self-control and perseverance while gaining confidence and staying active.
George Bill: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueFantastic instructors both in person and over Zoom. Challenging but supportive
Paul Sayed: Who knew that kicking things is a great way to make friends!CW Taekwondo offers a non-intimidating and welcoming way to work out and learn martial arts! The workouts are really high level and the environment is really positive for all experience levels.
Yemil Serret: CW Taekwondo is an amazing place to learn Taekwondo! I felt welcomed by the instructors and students since day one. I appreciate the fact that everyone always encourages me to get better and this place truly feels like a family environment. Since I've been a member at CW Taekwondo I have felt my confidence increase, my technique always improving each class, and my physique developing. I always look forward to attending classes and I am glad that I found CW Taekwondo.
Kashif-ul Huda: Highly recommended for martial arts training for young kids. Miss Amy and Miss Kat are very gentle with kids and patient but also firm so kids learn a lot about discipline, confidence, and important life lessons. They have classes for people of all ages but I have not seen better teachers for kids.Easily accessible from redline Central Square T stop or a paid parking structure right across the street from CW Taekwondo.
Robin Stevens: I joined C.W. a little over four years ago. I was looking for an activity that would allow me to get some exercise, relieve stress, and meet some new people. I had also always wanted to try a martial art, and C.W. happened to be the closest place to where I lived at the time. I knew within the first week that I had found a very special place -- one that gave me everything I was looking for and much more.As many other reviewers have said, the quality of the instruction is world-class, the community spirit is inspiring, and the price is a steal. If you're thinking about joining but are worried because you think you're not athletic enough or not naturally flexible or too old -- know that C.W. really does welcome people of all ages and abilities! All the instructors ask is that you give everything your best effort and strive to improve every class.
Joy Sun: I found C.W. by happenstance. I moved to the Boston-area 6.5 years ago knowing no one and on a whim, decided to give martial arts a try. I went to C.W. because it was a seven-minute walk from my apartment -- although I also liked that it was a non-profit and volunteer-run. There, I not only found a new passion for Taekwondo (fostered by truly incredible, world-class athlete-instructors and classmates), but also a community of people who have become family.C.W. Taekwondo, tucked in the heart of Central Square, is a true hidden gem of a place. People walking down Green Street pass by its unassuming façade every day without thinking about what's inside. But inside, nearly every night of the week, there is an assemblage of people of all ages and backgrounds, putting all of their hearts into each workout. Classes are led by preeminent Taekwondoists, who coach and compete for top spots nationally and internationally. The students are warm, hard-working - they smile while they sweat together. They stay after class to get help on techniques from each other. There is clapping for each other, there are high-fives, there are after-workout congregations at the bar across the street. The culture of the place, focused on community, fitness, and excellence, is what makes this place special. I highly recommend C.W. Taekwondo. Even if you aren't looking for a new home-away-from-home, like I was 6.5 years ago, C.W. is the place to go if you're looking for any of these things: (a) a fun and effective way to work out and stay fit for really great prices; (b) stress relief through kicking in a safe space; (c) a new way to be social and meet wonderful people; and/or (d) the best Taekwondo experience in the Boston area.
Katarina Vulic: The community and caliber of TKD at C.W. is truly fantastic. The classes are an excellent mix of cardio and core strength/flexibility and members and instructors are all incredibly welcoming. I can't say enough about the instructors here, they are the best. I highly recommend C.W. to anyone interested in trying martial arts.
Ashley Wallace: C.W. Taekwondo is a truly unique place. I began in the adult taekwondo program with no previous experience, hoping to get a work-out in a non-gym setting. I've now stayed a member for over three years because of the excellent instruction, great friends, and welcoming community. The instructors are encouraging, while holding their expectations to a high standard. The instructors are able to cater their teaching styles to individual students' needs and abilities. As I progressed through the ranks, I was able to appreciate the level of excellence our teachers exhibited; most competing at the national and international levels.Workouts are fun and challenging, combining cardio, strength training, and curriculum/skills.What makes C.W. so special is the sense of community. For an individual sport, there is a strong sense of support and encouragement. C.W. is constantly holding social events, as well as community events in Cambridge and Boston. A great group of people, and a great taekwondo education!I highly recommend giving C.W. a try!
Kyle Rand: More than an awesome workout - the community here is amazing.
Saima Sidik: CW is by far the best martial arts school I've been to. It provides a rigorous but encouraging environment and a great social network!
Sanjit Mandal: This is a great place to train. I am a karate practitioner, and when I wanted to spend sometime working on improving my kicks, I came here. Hand down, this is the best Tae Kwon Do spot in Boston, also considering the cost.Kids, teens, and parents should make martial arts a part of their life, and it should begin here!
Ahaan Rungta: I recently moved to Cambridge and, as a Yellow Belt, I wanted to continue Tae Kwon Do. My Mom found CW Tae Kwon Do and I signed up in Adult Level. Instructor Chuang was extremely encouraging. When I started, the Instructors Lohren, Nam, Chan, Julie, and James have always made me think of Tae Kwon Do at a different level, pushing me to perfection! I tend to live in a more mental zone so Taekwondo at CW is what I need to get moving and feel energized. Thank you so much for accepting me in your fold.
Matt Towler: I attended CW Taekwondo for nearly a decade, finally attaining my first degree black belt while there. The support and attention I got while on that path kept me going while in the past I would've given up. You definitely find yourself hitting heights that you never thought you'd reach. All aspects of taekwondo are taught, with somewhat more emphasis on competition sparring (one of the founding instructors went on to compete in the Olympics in Athens!).
Ellen Crenshaw: After years of sitting on my butt, I decided in 2011 it was time for a change. I signed up for kickboxing with CW and it's one of the best decisions I've ever made! It's T-accessible, mere steps from Central Square station. Three times a week with three different instructors gives you three great workouts with varying focus on upper body, lower body, and technique. The instructors are friendly and encouraging, the vibe between the instructors and the students is familial. After class if I have questions about technique they are always happy to offer help. There's a community here unmatched by any gym I've been to. I've come a long way—I feel stronger and more energetic with every class—but there's still so much more to achieve and I'm thrilled to do it at CW.
Sarah Song: I've experienced both the Cardio Kickboxing and Tae kwon do classes, and I really enjoyed doing both types of workouts. The instructors know what they are doing and always push the students without overdoing it. The atmosphere is quite friendly also. If you're looking for a great workout and a friendly atmosphere, I recommend CW.
Ken H: I started attending C.W. around November 2011. I was painfully inflexible, had zero martial arts experience, and really only had middling cardio endurance going for me.Luckily, the teachers here are extremely patient with all students; they will push you to try harder, move faster, and kick higher, but never with a temper. Sparring is practiced but with a high emphasis on safety. If you put in the effort to keep going to class and work on your material, you will improve! I'm far more flexible now and the stints on a stationary bike that used to be my high-end cardio workout now don't even get me breathing hard. The school also has a good mix of both age groups and gender, so don't be intimidated to give it a shot. It's an absolute steal for the asking price and often runs promotions for beginners. See you there.
Omar Fernández: As a member of the MIT Sport Taekwondo Club I've had the honor of training under some of the instructors of CW Taekwondo, including Master Daniel Chuang and Kathy Chuang. The instructors are very passionate about taekwondo and make sure you learn every technique the right way. Also, it makes for a great learning experience since all the instructors are very patient. Begginers (like me) will have a great time learning, while more advanced members will definitely enjoy of a good workout and good guidance on how to improve their techniques.

Villari's Martial Arts Centers: what do users think?
Steven Cabral: Love the teaching methods and patients used by the instructors. Really has been a positive force in my daughter's life.
Chris Foster: I have been with villari's for many years I have never been with a more laid back school with such a comfortable setting
Melissa Silvia: Master Brad at Villari's of Somerville is creating a martial arts experience that goes beyond the typical run of the mill karate class. At Villari's, kids and adults alike benefit from a real opportunity to explore a broader understanding of themselves through the mental and physical disciplines of karate, and through an introspective exploration of thoughts, feelings and personal behaviors and how they impact our personal realities. Classes begin with a short meditation, a physical work out with stretching, practice of forms and structure and wind down again with meditation and discussion. Kids are encouraged to celebrate their accomplishments no matter how big or small, and each child/student progresses at their own pace. My two children, 12 and 9 have been taking classes at Villari's for over 4 years now and have grown tremendously over that time. As a parent concerned with raising my children to be good, productive, compassionate people, I have found Villari's to be a wonderful support to what I try to teach at home, and sometimes, I learn a little something from them too! Give them a try - you'll love it!
Dipesh Nepal: Our son has been going here for 4+ years now, small personalized attention and wonderful masters. Thank you master Brad and the team for helping community kids.
Robert Bombalier: This is a good facility with a good long standing reputation. I have been here many times and many more in the future. This is a very comfortable place to learn where the instructors encourage :)You are in good hands placing your trust in this facility and its staff.
Huffle Puffle: Going here, more than anything else, has helped me develop my physical and emotional strength, as well as confidence in myself and the adaptability to handle any situation thrown my way. I don't know what I would do or be like without this place, but I know I wouldn't be a quarter of as good a person as I am now.
P S: After doing yoga for 5-6 years, I wanted to try something new. After some googling, I stumbled on this convenient location, went in for a free trial class - and I've been coming here ever since.Master Brad is an amazing teacher, and he runs a fantastic operation for both children and adults. It is reasonably priced, especially in comparison to other studios in the area, and you definitely feel like you get your money's worth. The people that go here are open-minded and welcoming, regardless of your martial arts ability. The upper-level belts take the time to help out us lower-level folks. When I first started, all I really wanted was a good workout, and to learn to protect myself. In addition to getting that, there are also many psychological, emotional and personal benefits. You focus on mental growth in addition to physical growth. My confidence has shot through the roof in the past 8 months! To be fair, this is my only experience with a martial arts studio - but I don't want to go anywhere else.
Will Scarbrough: Master Brad was amazing with our son. He was consistent, motivating, and made real progress with him. What a resource to have in the neighborhood!
