Boston Sailing Center: what do users think?
Brian Busch: Great place to sail - friendly staff, fun boats. Great place to learn too.
Vivian Chan: Amazing beginner experience with great instructors. Super helpful crew that were always willing to help (and rescue you if you were struggling/ caught in the storm!). Highly recommend
John Seamans: I enjoyed the professional manner in which I was instructed.. Thank you to the entire staff.
Tom R: Incredible instruction, fair price, good boats. Love this place.
Gustave H: Critical:Professionalism,Quality
Christopher Keane: Great group of people with fairly well maintained, but heavily used boats. Their classes are taught by very experienced sailors and the class size are very small with plenty of one on one instruction. The only downside is that if your a member on the large boats, unless you book long in advance it can be hard to get the exact boar that you want for a weekend.
Suzanne Shepard: This is place a gem. Far and away the best fractional ownership sailboat opportunity in the area. Their skilled, knowledgeable, service oriented staff feel like family. Also its the best sailing school around and their racing program is a blast!
scott bryer: Great place for sailing and learning to sail.
Brian Cote: Great sailing club. Boats in good condition, great social atmosphere.
David Walsh: Great place to learn how to sail or sail a wide variety of boats if you are certified to do so. 23 foot Solings and Sonars for daysailing up to 40 foot coastal cruising class. They take care of everything.
D Cares: I'm a woman that has a fanatical sailor husband. We signed up for a 3 part course to learn sailing, so I could become the fan too! The staff are young and fun & we had some really good instruction. We actually had some amazing sailing days. I would say this team gave me the confidence to enjoy sailing- which was pretty hard to do. Am I in love with sailing- not YET- but at least I know what to do and can help out on deck.Yes, this place is great. Good community of people as well.
Dan Panea: Great training, very friendly, focused on knowledge. This is a busy place. Make sure you take your time to understand what you need to learn. Book your classes early in the summer, as classes get booked fast. Literally, classes are booked 6 weeks out. At the end of the summer, you are a skipper. I had a great experience with this center.
rssail81: BSC is one of the hidden gems of Boston. It’s a great place for beginners to expert sailors, racers and cruisers. Maintenance has been great on all the boats. Of course some sailors need more maintenance than others but absent the usual user error the BSC does a great job with an amazing staff.
Lee Montag: While the center may be ok for first time learners, maintenance on the higher level boats no longer exists. For $3000 per season, 3 of our past 5 J24 boats had broken motors, and the staff acted like it was business as usual. Stay away if you are an experienced sailor.
Nikunj: Went Sailing on Boston Harbour at 54, Lewis Wharf and had a blast. We we're lucky enough to have the sails to us and the Nelli was smooth as butter. An hour long sailing was worth it with a loads of stuff to learn...! Definitely worth doing once a while to experience the blue seas and open sky..!
Burton Robson: I’ve sailed at Boston Sailing Center for the past 9 years and think BSC is wonderful for experienced sailors or for those taking their first lessonI’ve seen an improvement of the fleet over this timeframe and a consistent, hard working team of office staff and instructors. The fleet is well maintained and the club atmosphere includes social events and the opportunity to meet other members to sail with.Sailing in Boston Harbor is amazing and this could be the best part of your summer
Sean Flynn: Great place to go. Super friendly staff, especially Stacy and Bob! Real nice techs Peter and Griffin. Thanks for the great experience guys!
Doug Brown: Awesome, amazing experience. Instructors were fantastic. Boats are accessible. I'm looking forward to learning more and progressing the skills I was taught. By the way; the Boston Harbor is beautiful and EVERYONE should see Boston from this very unique vantage point!
全球全景: Good
Michael Bolgov: It was great. My family and friends went here with me. We had loads of fun. Spent 3 hrs sailing here.
James Roth: Great instructors, boats, and above all customer service. If anything comes up last minute, instead of being bumped from your reservation, the BSC staff makes things right. Some other sailing memberships in new england could learn alot from how BSC treats their members.

Community Boating Inc.: what do users think?
Ed Harper: A fantastic resource in Boston, learn to sail, rent a boat or kayak, and the best kids summer program. It is a peaceful and relaxing spot right in the heart of the city.
Caroline Meeks: friendly affordable place to learn to sail
Eric Li: Staff is very friendly. They got a lot of Saul boats and boats to try. Also very friendly with beginners
Sweet Kitty: I went sailing with friends at community boating many times, always had a good time there. The staff were very friendly and helpful.. They always looked happy. It made me happy about my sailing. The boats and sails were clean and always in good conditions. The life jackets may not very clean, but better than what availability at other sailing/boating places. When sailing in the river, wind blows by and view is so beautiful. It was always a joyful experience.
Luke Heine: Absolutely rockstar place. Maybe the most affordable place to learn how to sail in the US. Super accessible and amazing community
Philipp Schneider: A really easy going place for learning how to sail
John Figueiredo: Beautiful location
behrang ghabchi: Best experience ever in Boston🤩💯👌🏻
Mikhail Naumov: Incredible for the price, $400 upfront for a full summer of kayaking, windsurfing and sailing. All the classes are included/free except for the advanced racing class!
joy sun: I ran past this place on the Esplanade for years while living in Boston. I thought since I didn’t sail, this place didn’t apply to me. Walked in one day and learned that for $400 a year, they’ll teach you how to sail and let you rent equipment for free! Just sailed for the first time today and really looking forward to getting better with more lessons!
Samantha Elghanayan: Great kayaking
Frank: Great place to learn sailing and windsurfing. Also, the taste of the water is not too bad .
Michael Doyle: What an experience. I hadn't sailed for 30 years. The woman up front assured me it would be fine and they would tow me in if I had difficulties. The Mercury is a nice stable sailboat and the person setting it up gave me a crash course on the rigging. One of life's great experiences is sailing on the Charles River in Boston. Get the jib, especially if you have a passenger that wants to stay involved. No problems getting in our out of the docks. HINT: on the verbal test, when they ask what to do when the boat is getting ready to capsize, "release the mainsail".
James Kassabian: If you're looking to sail and you're from out of town, look elsewhere. Nonmembers are not allowed to rent sailboats in heavy winds/red flag - ideally when qualified sailors would actually want to be out there. No exceptions made and staff didn't bother to mention that it was a red flag until 30 minutes after asking them about parking in the area. Disappointing.
Kristine Murray: We were able to rent a 19’ sailboat for 4 adults and enjoy an afternoon on the Charles river.
Alexander Cohen: Excellent way to start sailing! Staff is friendly and supportive. Membership is also an unbeatable value!
Edbert Cheng: I enjoy the Kayak service, but why are the folks who work on helping ppl into kayaks seem like they hate their job? Where are their manners? Sometimes there is staff, other times there isn’t, or people are just rude. Maybe the paid sailing courses are better? Please train your staff to be courteous and not “throw” boats around. Staff in New York are nicer than here, because I used to work at a boathouse there. I will find a rival kayak service. Please train your staff.
Miguel de Icaza: Great place to learn to sail! Perfect!
John Haxx: By far the best membership anything that exists in Boston. $400 gets you a whole year of sailing, kayaking, paddle boards or wind surfing, and classes to get you going. The volunteers are all generally wonderful and getting your sailing ratings is easy and straight forward. Couldn't be happier to be a member.
9507 Ashmont: Beautiful view

Black Rock Sailing School: what do users think?
jimmy choate: fantastic school great instructors can’t miss here
Michael Pimentel: Positive:ProfessionalismI recently attended Black Rock Sailing School in Boston. I can’t say enough about Captain Paul & Captain Forest. The instructors were not only knowledgeable & professional but they made it a fun experience. If you are thinking about learning to sail then don’t hesitate to sign up at Black Rock.
Sam F: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueJust finished ASA 104 at their Warrick, RI location. They offered an amazing training experience with an outstanding and skilled instructor and a fantastic Beneteau 47 sail boat. I highly recommend getting all levels of training with them.
Charles Landry: Just finished our 101 course with Paul. We got very lucky with the weather being terrific, but more importantly than that the classroom and on-the-water instruction was superb. Paul was knowledgeable, patient, good natured and a skilled teacher (both with the theoretical aspects as well as the practical). Looking forward to taking the 103 course in a couple of weeks and would very much recommend Black Rock to anyone interested in learning to sail.
Marissa Frosch: My husband, nephew, and I just completed our ASA 101 sailing course through Black Rock Sailing School in Boston and I couldn’t have been happier. Our instructors were incredibly knowledgeable not only about the class but about anything we thought of to ask (and there was a lot!). The environment was very welcoming, I never felt like the odd one out as the only woman present in the class. I can’t wait for 103. We’ll be in RI for that one and after going to Boston I was a little sad we set it up this way but Brenton’s reputation suggests we’ll have just as good a time there.Highly recommend for people who are thinking about getting into sailing for the cruising life style (part or full time) as well as the folks who are interested in racing.
Gabriel Motta: Great school with great instructors.
Tom Joyce: Had a tremendous three days at Black Rock Sailing School in Boston. We were on a first rate well maintained 33 foot boat with Jim, a very experienced licensed captain with many years of experience on the water. Jim has also been a professional educator for a long time and understands how to teach adults. The other two people in the class were also great assets. It was not an easy class but I always felt in control and walked away knowing I could handle a boat like that. Brenton did a great job getting me into the right class and all the materials and instructions were sent to me well in advance. I will be back.
Agust Calabro: I took ASA 101 with Capt Paul Sullivan. Knowing absolutely nothing about sailing, over the course of the class he gave me the skills and confidence to sail on my own. I would highly recommend Black Rock, and Captain Paul specifically. He is knowledgeable, friendly, and always allows you to pick his brain
Scott Roche: I took ASA 101 with Blackrock last year and it was a really great experience. I'd actually been crewing for a while but had no formal training, and during/after the course everyting just clicked. My instructor was Paul Sullivan, and he was awesome -- super knowledgeable and experienced, great at explaining things, and a fun guy to spend eight hours a day for three days with. We had some tough breaks with weather during the course (one day was too rough to go out, and the last day there wasn't sufficient wind), so Paul scheduled us with a (totally optional) makeup day a week or so later. They didn't have to do that, and I really appreciated it. The boat they teach 101 on (the colgate 26) is a dream to sail/learn on, and big enough that practicing on it lets you transfer your skills to a smaller or bigger boat pretty easily. I'm a member of a certain other sailing club in Boston (that also teaches courses), and from what I have seen of many people who have learned at my club, Blackrock is the way to go for sailing instruction. I came out of it a better, more confident sailor who enjoys sailing a lot more now. I'll be doing all of my futher courses with these guys.
Rebecca Fishbein: I recently completed the ASA 101at Black Rock Sailing School with Paul Sullivan. As a novice, I was apprehensive about being able to demonstrate command of the content and my developing skills on the water but Paul is an exceptional instructor who possesses the perfectcombination of knowledge, skill, experience and patience. He is able to teach the most basic skills, peppered with his vast personal and professional experiences, in an engaging yet serious manner. His respect for the power of the sea, wind and air is never in doubt as he conveys theimportance of having the knowledge and abilities to sail safely. And while on the water with Paul he supplied a constant narrative to test, educate and encourage us, translating what we had learned in the classroom into real, demonstrable skills.I would highly recommend to anyone contemplating sailing or improving their sailing skills to consider Black Rock Sailing School and certainly “the wind whisperer”, Paul Sullivan.
Laurie Katz: My husband and I have taken sailing lessons with Black Rock Sailing School and couldn't have been happier with our experience. We did ASA 101, 103 and 104 with Chris and then took a few private lessons with Paul to brush up on our skills the following season. A few years earlier I had taken an introductory class to sailing at another one of the big sailing schools in Boston. Without question, Black Rock Sailing School was the better experience. Black Rock offered us more personalized teaching with a smaller group - there were only 3 people in each each of our classes at Black Rock vs 15 people at the other school. The instructors were also clearly more experienced at Black Rock. I also found Black Rock provided an overall better hands on experience...there were only 3 people on our sailboat compared to 4-5 people at the other school...less people on the boat means more time to learn. I would recommend this sailing school without hesitation.

Courageous Sailing: what do users think?
Nathan Webb: Excellent place! Had amazing instructors for my lessons. I've been sailing regularly since then. Great sailing program with lots of events, and a solid community of fun people to meet and crew up with.
G C: You must do it... very good experience! And the stuff is helpful and they make sure everything move smoothly.
George “Zach” Orlov: Outstanding access to our very own Boston Harbor .
Joseph McLaughlin: Nathan was a great captain.
Margaret Britton: Great place for kids to learn
Stephen: Critical:Professionalism
Michael O'Brien (Michael George O'Brien): Positive:Quality,ValueCourageous is my favorite mission driven sailing school. I have learned so much there and met so many awesome people, and I love that youth sailing programs are funded by adult sailing lessons, events, and local sponsors. It is truly a staple of the community.
J Archer: Courageous Sailing is impressively disorganized, being run by inexperienced staff who don’t put into action what needs to be done. If you are an adult learner, look elsewhere. The quality of the instructors is uneven and Courageous Sailing appears to not be taking action to resolve this problem. Unlike other clubs in the sailing community, Courageous will not help you out and will not connect you with the resources you need, despite Courageous Sailing having the power to do so. As I have continued my study and learning of sailing, I can soundly say that time and money spent on Courageous Sailing was wasted. Their poor instruction is a detriment to the art.
Ganesh Iyer: Great boats and wonderful staff. Very helpful and knowledge instructors
Steven Skinner: Took several lessons here and every instructor has been great. I have taken some lessons else where and I would recommend Courageous. I have also been a member for the last 4 seasons. Courageous is awesome. Highly recommend
Mark Houser: Got a one-day membership for $65 and was able to take a 19' Rhodes on a one-hour cruise of Boston Harbor. The amazing Fergus accompanied me to check out my skills -- this bloke sailed completely around Ireland with his brother as a kid! I took up sailing this summer, and it was easy to transition to the Rhodes after several outings at my lake on a Flying Scot. Highly recommend this if you're in Boston -- I could've had the boat all day had I had the time in my schedule.
Greg Noelken: Beautiful views of the Boston skyline from the pier at Courageous Sailing in Charlestown.
Lukas Rieppel: Wonderful, unpretentious sailing club with excellent teachers and great racing!
Benjamin Bezine: Very good teachers, it's a great place to learn and practice!
Carl Zimba: Great place to learn to sail and race
Rick Peralta: Corageous seeks to make a difference in the world, by making ailing more available. The youth program serves scores of children every year. The adult program allows new sailors and old salts share their passion for sailing.Definitely should be on the to-do list, for a pleasant skippered sail, foundational classes or informal racing and comradery.
Todd Livingston: When I walked out here some people were preparing for a joggers day on the land.

Boston Harbor Sailing Club: what do users think?
Connor Bryson: Owners a douchebag
Anna Chow: Excellent management staff. Most convenient location.
Charles Power: I know mark and I believe in the boston harbor sailing club thats why I joined.
Jacob Mulligan: At about one thousand dollars cheaper than comparable memberships in the harbor, it's hard to beat the value of a membership here for the mid- to large-boat memberships. Notably unlike other sailing clubs in the harbor is that you can take a boat out for unlimited amounts of time (within reason and the owner, Mark, is the arbiter of reason here), so if you want to take a 1 week sailing trip you can. Other places I looked restricted rentals to 3 or 5 days, or you pay per day over the membership limit.Additionally, the classes taught here are very good. Vernon is a great teacher and the picturesque sailor. The day sailing class is a great option for someone looking to start ocean sailing and cruising.Like the other reviews mention, the boats are not in the best condition and they don't seem to do anything about it. Most of the Pearson 26's smell a little funky when you first step inside, but opening the hatches clears the air quickly and I haven't had a problem spending many nights on these boats.
Van Mclaughlin: I took a course here and have been out on a variety of their boats the past 2 years. My instructors, Vern and Matt, were both very informative, complete in their instruction, and had the knowledge base to answer any questions about sailing. The boats are in good condition and Mark was helpful and always prompt with any questions I had about the club or boat reservations.. I would highly recommend BHSC!
Adam Alexander: Had a great daysailing course with BHSC! Just myself and one other student with an instructor all day. Learned a lot, did everything on the boat with no classroom instruction, which in my view is a plus. They mail you a textbook to go over prior to the course which is a good idea. Boats I used were sufficient but not flashy. One month's membership included with lessons is a good deal. I had Vern and Dwayne both of whom were a lot of fun and very good.
Jake Megowen: I have been a member here for 3 years and have no complaints. The value is excellent. The boats are seaworthy. But if you need a spiffy new boat to impress someone, instead of one to sail on... The boats are older but maintained, and as club boats they get used a lot.I have sailed ALL the types of boats there, from the Sonar, Solings, Boston 27s, Albin 28s and Scampi, J 29s, Pearson 26s, 31s, 34 and 36s and the Cal 33s and 39s. The motors start, the sails raise, and you're supposed to have a chart to navigate anyway, even if the boat has a GPS.'I have never taken a lesson from Vern but find him very personable. Eric does most of the maintenance and is excellent. I have no complaints.
Marcus DeGruttola: Celebrating 20 years with Boston Harbor Sailing Club with a membership that has grown as I have grown…
