I ordered a pair of boots online for pickup at this location for the first time and wanted to ask a few questions regarding the pickup. I made three different phone calls. The first one was put on hold forever (10 mins+) and never heard back. The next two calls got picked up and hung up immediately without saying anything. This is super rude. I totally understand that they are busy. They can just leave ignore the calls in the first place. So, I didn't have to wait for them.Anyhow, due to its prime location, I will probably shop here again.

I've done some research on the brand and I was very interested. I tried a couple of sizes. They have a nice selection in the store.I purchased a pair and when I got home I wore them around the house again. They were just a little too snug after all.I called them and spoke with a nice lady at Trend. I asked to exchange for one size up and they said no problem. I sent in my boots and copy of my receipt. They promptly sent the requested size and I'm happy! Yes it cost me a little shipping but that's on me.Good customer service, good communication and tracking number. Nicely done.I love the boots.

Arkadiy Kuvaev (BaKKo): Made an appointment 4 weeks ahead, provided my insurance information and filled a bunch of paperwork. 1 (one!) day before the appointment I get a text to tell me that my insurance is not supported, even though the website says they accept most insurance plans, and even mention Aetna by name. Most places verify your insurance the moment you make the appointment, and not 24 hours before visit.

I was visiting from Chicago and purchased a pair of On running shoes and was super excited to try them out since everyone I know says they are super comfortable. I wore them once and got huge blisters on my heels but didn't want to give up on the shoes so I wore them a few weeks later with different socks and it was even more painful. The store doesn't offer refunds so I called and explained my situation, expressed disappointment with the shoes and even offered to pay for the shipping back to them. Absolutely no leniency on the policy and no other suggestions to make a customer happy. I've worked in retail almost 20 years and would never work with a client like this.

It’s too bad stores adopt these antiquated policies when online shops are much easier for returns. I will not shop at a physical Clarke’s again. Emily Schlotterbeck: I had a pleasurable and easy experience while purchasing a pair of shoes for work. Store was relatively empty and they had my size in stock. The return process however, has been the exact opposite. The website shows hours open on Saturday until 9pm. I show up at 6:50pm and the door is locked and lights are off, but there are 2 workers standing at the cash register. I call and basically get told the website hours are wrong and they always close at 7pm but that night there was “an emergency” and they needed to close early. I was quite disappointed and reached out on the website contact page to voice my frustrations. If I had known the store closed at 7, I would have gone earlier. Also it did not seem like there was an emergency as the worker had time to answer my call in the same amount of time a simple return would take. I check the hours for during the week and planned to stop by this morning before working. The website said open at 9:30am. I arrive at 10:15am or so today and the door is once again locked. I call the store asking what time they open and am told between 10:30-11am because of technical difficulties. I work 10:30am-7pm and I voice my frustrations as I have now have gone out of my way and tried to return shoes twice. I was told that if I went this upcoming Saturday between 10:30am and 7pm that the store would be open and if I was over the 21 day return mark, that as long as the shoes were unworn (which they are) and that I had the receipt (which I do), they would make an exception. It is unacceptable and unprofessional to not have updated and accurate store hours on the website or at least posted on the door. Unfortunately, I don’t work from home so I have to rely on the store hours to try and get somewhere around my job schedule. The worker on the phone this morning was nicer and more understanding than the female I spoke to on Saturday but I am still quite frustrated. I plan on making a final trip to the store, returning the shoes this upcoming Saturday, and will then not be shopping from this store again.

Adam Mackler: This location is far superior to Newbury Street. On Newbury, the salesman had an attitude like my questions were inconveniencing him and when I asked if they could order an out-of-stock model so I could try it on before buying his answer was "I wish." At State Street Eva answered the same question "of course" and beyond that she was totally helpful and accommodating. I ended up making my purchase at State Street and I will be shopping there from now on rather than Newbury Street.

Out of all the DSWs I been to this is the one with the largest selection so if they don't have a pair of shoes to my liking I can say with confidence that the other DSWs won't be any better. My girlfriend loves buying her boots and socks here as well, and when she needs to go to a DSW this is the one I will always bring her to.
