Commonwealth Books: what do users think?
Ali Kazimi: Pricey but fun
Kelly Crandall: It was an interesting place with a lot of old maps and some pretty cool books. A lot of older books with some unique things. The man working seemed nice but also busy with something other than the books. Overall, not bad if you want to see some old books.
taylor richardson: Excited to find a new book store to find some old design and film photography books until the guy working was rude. Didn’t bother to say hi, ask if I needed help, etc. but was sure welcoming to the other people who came in after me. Spend your money at another book store that actually welcomes their guests who get excited to go in and buy something.
pjs: Great book store off the road in a lovely alley. Excellent selection of rare and unique books.
E. S.: If you're going to get lost anywhere, get lost in here. It's the one place I want to be in a zombie apocalypse. Heaven.
Brit: Wonderful bookstore with uncommon finds and enough substance to satisfy all your esoteric musings
Michael Skvarla: Stopped in 7 or 8 years ago and loved it, one of the best unscheduled stops of our visit to the point that I still remember it
Rob G: This is a very interesting antique book store.
Josh Roberts: So many interesting books, great selection to check out
Paxton Thayer: Cute little shop. Can get crowded quickly if busy, but on a little brick street and overall a cool place. The maps there are also interesting!
Jade Gonzalez: Great little used bookstore with unique editions. We just came to peruse but you could easily spend hours in here. Only downside is we didn’t get to see the cat 😢
Caroline DeBrota: Lovely old bookstore with a bunch of maps and old prints as well. Prices seem reasonable. You are welcome to browse, which is nice.
Howard Khan: Amazing place. Love it!
Jenitza Camacho: Hidden gem!
Project Hu148: Great used bookstore
Alex: old books galore. if books older than you are is your thing this is the place to go
Jose Luis: Muy interesante tienda, hay infinidad de libros, realmente puedes encontrar lo que buscas y algo interesante. Lo recomiendo
Arthurious: One of the few true rare + antique bookstores with a lovely selection of hard-to-find titles on all subjects. I enjoyed the art & design section quite a bit.Through the store, you'll find many original old prints as well, including maps and 19-century illustrations.
Subhankar Pal: Didn’t purchase anything here, but seemed like a gem of a store. Lots of antique books at reasonable prices.
Kelley and Christine Carter: Super cool place
Kip Keith: My long-time favorite used bookstore in Metropolitan Boston, period. A little hard to find, but absolutely worth the trouble. Latest finds: a biography of Henry Knox and a collection of Franz Kafka short stories. Vintage prints and some comic books, too.

Brattle Book Shop: what do users think?
SuperMusicNova: 4 stars because I have my preferences but the whole vibe of the store was amazing! Especially the outside book store and the rare books and such! Felt like I was in a jk Rowling story !
Sarah Black: The Brattle Book Shop is an absolute gem. When the weather is good, they put carts of inexpensive books outside for browsers. Inside, 3 floors of used and rare books, and a staff that's knowledgeable, and never bothersome. It's a book lover's paradise
Natalie D: This is such a great little used book store close to Boston Common! Outside you'll find racks of stickered books for $3-5 (a mix of fiction and nonfiction) while inside they have different sections and topics of books (hardback has the price written inside the book, paperback on a sticker on the front cover). Always worth a look to see what they have and also take a look at the rare books which have sold too! Condition does vary like all used book stores but I think the books are priced fairly and the staff are always friendly!
Alvaro Cervera: Amazing place to browse books
Enrica Finotto: I have been there last summer, I think I spent almost 3 hours inside it, reading ancient postcards form all over the world unknown people wrote to their relatives and friends! It is a really fascinating place. Enjoy!
Mathieu De Bastos: A book worms dream, 3 floors and an outdoor section filled with all sorts of works. Worth going even if you don’t plan on buying anything.
Tetiana Shekhovtsova: Interesting Book shop
Heather Casto: Felt like the best book yard sale ever. There is no organization of books, yikes, but awesome selection and prices
Nick W: Very cool bookstore. We checked out the alley before heading inside. Some very interesting finds including Gulliver's travels (pictured). I asked how much it was out of curiosity but he didn't know off the top of his head and I didn't want to make him open the case. Worth checking out if you like books at all.
Eric Johnson: Large used bookstore with many unsorted $1 to $5 specials in an outdoor lot. You can make some great finds early on a good day.
KASTURI BARDE: Found this gem while exploring the area close to my office. They have rare, vintage books as well as sale books out in the alley. A book lover’s dream!
Ivan Corona: I was in Boston for a Business trip and I noticed this cute little library in a alley while riding an Uber to the hotel. I couldn’t even make it to the hotel, I had the Uber driver drop me off a few blocks away. For a moment I thought I wouldn’t find it again but I was lucky to find it and wow, such a cute and random experience. I spent about an hour searching the outdoor shelf’s and then went inside to check out more books and all the antiques they had inside. I brought a couple books and returned home with a cute memory.
LH: Tolle Buchhandlung mit einzigartigen Interior und super fairen Preisen.
Sharanya Sarkar: A pretty unique book store!
Karla Plascencia: Such a unique way to buy books. I really like the fact is outdoors. It has a big variety of books at a cheap price.
brian holzhausen: Cool place to look at books.
Alex Terrero: Me gusta mucho este lugar. Bueno para comer y hacer la compra.
Josh Roberts: Delightful bookstore, all sorts of fantastic used books.
Sònia Díaz: Llibreria amb molts llibres de segona mà a preus excepcionals. Hi trobes autèntiques joies.
Brendan Deeney: Wonderfully unique bookstore with a lot of history, and a great collection of books. One of the best parts of Brattle is the outdoor, discounted book selection that they set up in their spare lot next to the store. Racks and racks of $1,$3,$5 books to browse on a nice day is a wonderful way to kill an hour. Highly recommend you stop by and see for yourself!!
Terry Wendelken: Another good stop to look for a book in Boston. You can turn around and lose two hours in this place so look out! The outdoor books is a good stroll.

Bryn Mawr Book Store: what do users think?
Lisa D: Delightful collection of used books.Cash only.Very reasonable prices.I was impressed by the children’s selection. Wonderful assortment of art books, history, fiction…everything you need!Worth a visit.
Gopal Chopra: Wonderful people, incredible book selection, unbelievably affordable. An adventure with thrills for those looking for that unique book. Will not disappoint. Take cash!
Mai Nguyen: One of my favorite local bookstores in Cambridge. Amazing selection, a whole cupboard of $1 books outside, usually free sweets at the counter, super friendly people.
Elle Revett: A gem of a bookshop filled with books from many genres. They have many sets of bound books, a well stocked literary criticism section, lovely art books and an interesting history selection. There is also a nice children's section full of nostalgic books! Helpful staff, neat aisles and very reasonably priced books. There is street parking and quite a few very good eateries and specialty shops on Huron Ave.
J D: This is a beautiful used book store — a wonderful place to browse, with a diverse and sophisticated selection, especially rewarding for a scholarly audience. But I just can’t stand the cash-only constraint. I’m a bibliophile, own several thousand volumes purchased from locally (Boston and Cambridge) owned stores, and would buy something here every time I shop at Formaggio’s Kitchen across the street, but I never, ever have cash on me, and there’s no Bank of America ATM in walking distance. In my case, at least, the store thus loses at least a few hundred dollars in sales each year, and I can’t imagine I’m alone. Given that credit card processing fees are around 2% per transaction, or about 30 cents for a $15 book, I can’t see how this makes a whole lot of sense. And indeed, this is the only locally owned used book store in the area that is cash-only, to my knowledge (Raven Used Books in Cambridge isn’t, Commonwealth Books in Boston isn’t, Deep Thoughts in Jamaica Plain isn’t). In any case, if you do happen to have cash or just want to browse and not buy, do make sure to stop by.
Steven Schwartz: Not a corporate chain bookstore; quite the opposite. The Bryn Mawr Bookstore is one of the charming and undiscovered "old Cambridge" locations favored by the locals. The store is run by alumnae for the benefit of Bryn Mawr College. (Bryn Mawr College is one of the Seven Sisters, a group of colleges in New England.) This is the place to go if you are looking for a quiet place to reflectively peruse books. Stepping off the bus on to Huron Avenue is like walking out of a time machine into a more peaceful period in American history.
L Dana: Lots of unusual books for very good prices. Every month they have a certain genre half off as well, making their prices even better. The staff are all volunteers, and very kind. Plus it goes to scholarships for Bryn Mawr college in PA.My favorite section is the science section. They're close to Harvard and MIT so the donated science books are great. They have an impressive selection on local ecology, so if you are looking for a good book for someone new to the area I'd recommend getting them something about the local wildlife or ecology. My other favorite section is the poetry section. The poetry section is amazing, the largest one I've ever seen. Even if you don't read poetry you should really check it out. It's really quite good, plus poetry often has the benefit of being short so if you hate it, well it's half over!If you come by be aware they only take cash or check, no credit cards. Parking can be tight on the weekends (it's still Cambridge), but there is a bus stop that goes right there and that bus leaves from Harvard which is very easy to get to from all the major commuter rails. I used to take a Blue Bike (the rentable one's) there after work, as there is a stop a few blocks up.If you want to see which genre is on sale this month check out their Facebook page! They also post their hours on there, so if you're concerned they're closed (which they are only open a few days a week) you should check there.I mean I'm biased, I bought 15+ books from them last month because the science section was on sale, but I cannot recommend this store enough. Please, please wear your mask though if they ask! The volunteers are all very kind, but as a rule rather older.
Daniel Adamec: Anyplace you can get a copy of the complete works of Oscar Wilde that's almost a century old for less than three figures has to be pretty awesome. The sci-fi section has some classics (Vinge! Van Vogt! Clarke!) and some new books mixed in. It's one shelf, but it's got a surprising range. The fiction section is vast and well stocked (to someone who only dips in occasionally, anyway). The science and math sections are small, and don't always have something interesting, but there's enough turnover for a thorough search to be rewarding. I've found some gems in there -- mostly historical interest, but I've found enough to be extremely entertaining.
Alysha Heusel: Great place to find amazing books! Very peaceful atmosphere with an outstanding staff. Very organized. Great prices. Glad I found this place.
Joel Couch: Used books and a few other used items. The nice thing about the books here is that they are relatively intellectual content because of the nice neighborhood and because of the Cambridge connection to Harvard and MIT. The books here are not all super cheap but there are certainly bargains here. Sales here all benefit the Bryn Mawr college scholarship fund.
Gail Rogers: Great for used books and friendly conversation. Also that all proceeds go to financial aid for students. Will be back.
Ginger Thomas: Interesting selection of books. Helpful volunteer staff. Benefits scholarships for students.
RBBoston: Perfect little bookstore in a perfect little village tucked away from the cranky bustle of life.
Francesca Gordini: A wonderful collection of treasures is hidden behind the doors of this store. A group of volunteers runs the store beautifully. You may want to consider coming here if you're looking for a precious edition, something unique to read.
Hellen Arantes: Cozy!!
tim yildiz: The best prices around very friendly staff. Great non profit too part of book proceeds go to college scholarships. they accept donations from customers and you can get a income tax rebate slip with your book donations! They also hold books for you.Tim
Stavros Macrakis: Used book store like they used to be -- some dusty old stuff no one wants, occasional great finds, and everything in between. Your purchase benefits Bryn Mawr College.

Nia DeYounge: Amazing selection of books for and by people of color!
Yvonne Adams: I cannot say enough great things about Frugal Bookstore. The store is the BEST, and Clarrissa and Leonard are the BEST-EST! I could spend hours and hours here, and they have wonderful things in addition to books. They're so accommodating and helpful (Leonard always insists on carrying my books out to my car when I have a big, heavy boxful) and I look forward to every trip there.
Aaron Bremner: Wide selection of books for all ages.
Rocco Pigneri: Wonderful book store. Great selection. Will order anything that they do not carry. Always pleased with the experience. Maanav Thakore: Frugal is an absolute gem. Their children’s section is the best I’ve ever seen. Buy your books here instead of making billionaires rich. They have a great selection and can order anything you need. Their staff are amazing, and their love of books is infectious.
Evelyn Marie Gonzalez: This bookstore has to be my favorite local bookstore. They have a wide variety of books, but my absolute favorite section is the children’s book section, and that is not only because I am a teacher! They have such a large variety of books on display, including new releases, which you might think is surprising for a small, local shop. They are also always so friendly here, every time I go! They ask if I need help, but they also give me my space when I tell them I am just browsing. They are also always willing to order books to the store if it isn’t something they have in stock. I have also ordered online from them during the pandemic, and I’ve had nothing but positive experiences! Also, on street parking has always been extremely easy, as it is on a large, main road. Every time I’ve gone there, I’ve gotten parking right out front! I 100% recommended this book shopping experience!
Jason Williams: First black own book store I have ever been in. The owner has so much love for what he does.
Christopher Calliste: A place where something about everything can be found
Laurie Singletary: Excellent small book shop with groovy gifts, friendly staff, and good prices!
DenyseB Bardouille: The Frugal Book Store is a breath of new and fresh air to the community! So excited to have it in the heart of Nubian Sq (formerly Dudley Sq.-around the corner from the old Nubian Notion.)The books are so unique and wonderfully filled with children of color having adventures and doing exciting things that children do. Exposure to these gems is a must for your children from infant to young adult,.They have Spanish and English stories combined and many ethnic arts and crafts. Treat yourself and pop in to see our bookstore in the heart of Roxbury.Denyse Bardouille
Michael Tucker: I love going there keeping up-to-date reading and mingling in the community talking about going on!!
Che Robinson: If your looking for good authors ofgreat urban stories, and any other Chandra of books from Syfy to fiction nonfiction cookbooks go check it out. Fair prices staff. Very knowledgeable The owners, the husband and wife team very knowledgeable for those women. Looking for a great story of passion, drugs, buddy. All the good stuff. That makes a good movie in a book. Go there!
Roderick Parker: Been going there for years. Great books. The people in there are great. Black owed. The place to go for books and more. Peace.
John Anderson: I love this bookstore.
Grace Teixeira: The staff members over at Frugal are always so welcoming and thoughtful, and the store selection can't be beat. I can't say enough positive things about his hub for learning and resources!

The Book Rack: what do users think?

They sell used books but take care to take only those in great condition. There is nowhere to sit and you run into other buyers constantly, as the store is small and packed, but their offerings are so good you want to spend all afternoon in there looking for books. More Than Words Warehouse Bookstore: what do users think?
Vinka Valdivia: Visited this place today. They get donations of clothing and books and sell them to them support programs which teach at-risk youth to run businesses.
Monika: Great concept to help people while also teaching them how to run the business.
Ethan: I am biased because I work here. But usually that means a bad review. I just generally loved the bookstore when I went in to look for a job. I chose to work in the store itself because of it. Very great people behind the scenes and in my opinion the books are a great price. I will say the clothing is a little pricey for being thrift but it is not over the price of regular clothing. And there are regular sales if you look out for them. I recommend everyone visit sometime because not only is it a great store but it also helps a lot of people, and smaller businesses. I would also recommend asking about what the nonprofit is and does while in the store. It's good to know where your money is going to in this situation. They have helped me out massively in the past few months as a child in DCF custody.
E. S.: My safe space.
Tiffany Cook: Such a cute little bookstore!
Gretchen Almy: They were on time, cordial, professional and very nice accepting our donation:) love supporting organizations like this:)
Sarah Doherty: I left my lululemon expensive yoga mat after an event, I called over 5 times the second I left no answer. I emailed, left voicemails. No answer. They knew I was coming back for it, my friend left it with them for me to come back and get. My dad showed up 2 days later and they told him they donated it. I’m deeply disappointed and they should be paying me back for this, they claimed there is a 24 hour only lost and found but I made it clear I was coming back for it
Lukas Duong: Wonderful bookstore / boutique of second hand clothes. Everything here aims toward a good cause and justice. I love it here. And they do have a lovely reading place. Just bring your coffee and chill there. The staff is kind and helpful too.
Chuks “BritishAmerican” Eze: Awesome venue location for any type of event.
Linette Davis: So pretty and welcoming inside! Great place to find gifts
kathleen pickard: What an awesome bookstore. All proceeds go to help youth. Such a selection of books . Used and New books. Visiting from out of town and happy to have found a place to get books to read while here better than Barnes and Noble
Dario Camacho: Interesting place to find clothing, books, records and many different items!
Nine Alpha: bought a book from them on amazon, instead of putting the paper inside the same bag, they put the FOLDED UP THICK PAPER inside the book itself,
Gaillard Duliepre: They claim to not know any publishers
Nada Pupovac: The best bookshop. Visited in 2019 and I was thrilled to be able to find it again.
Ian Hussey: Was there for a wedding!? They have an awesome event space and tons of great books!
Aric Peterson: Friendly staff.
ethan goldman: Great store. Good hat. Good price. WillDo again.
Kirk Floyd: I used to work there in 2017 and I loved it and unfortunately I ended up losing my position due to being late too many times. I would have liked to have worked there longer as I loved it. This is the one job that I can say I regret losing.
Patti P: Great shop. Lots of good prices on used books. Cute gifts and even nicely curated used clothes. The location is great! It's right near the sowa vibtage market so make sure to check that out and the 3 floors of artists studios above. We came to the are to make sure to spend our money here because it benefits kids in foster care. Having been one, I appreciate the attention and support for these kids. Consider fostering!
Megan Edouard: My son works here and they never pay him on time. They don’t give the kids that work their what they deserve.Pay my son is his check!!!!
