Winter Island Park: what do users think?
joe sotham: Worst, worst, worst shower facility I have ever used. As little privacy and security as possible, which is a big deal. There is no place to put your kit or hang clothes within your shower area. Total embarrassment of a facility. This dominates the experience.Showers are cleaned, and there was a good supply of hot water, and staff are cheerful and pleasant. We are staying 10 days so showers are a big deal.Park your unit in a great big field.
Olga Assef: My favorite place in the summer.Location: 5/5 …More
Michael Thompson: Beautiful views of the Salem Harbor, quiet location with lot of parking and a free dump at the Sewage Treatment Plant next door.
Hazel Hunter: HiThe first photo was my campsite on Oct 19. I car camp and my spot was perfect. This is a unique campground, but think about it, on the water, minutes from downtown Salem. I left my car and taxied into Salem 7$ plus tip. No parking problem. Perfect. Staff was lovely and knowledgeable. Nearish train station.
Missy Woods: This is a great campsite and way more affordable than any hotel in the area!
Mick D: Saw a Megadeth concert here about 25 years ago great place as it is a natural amphitheatre from ramparts used in the old wars.
Lauren: Ok spot for a quick visit to Salem. It’s just a dirt/muddy field with a short walk to showers. Very close to neighbors. W/E at our site. About 1.5 mile walk to the downtown area and Essex street, which we did walk and it wasn’t too bad. Huge raccoon problem, so make sure you guard your food! Showers aren’t terrible but could definitely use an upgrade. Clean enough, and free. Raccoons get into the bathroom if you leave the doors open. There is a dump station just a short drive on your way out, free for Winter Island campers. The front office lady will tell you instructions. Make sure you have a long hose, it’s a little far from the curb.
Todd Ewer: Awesome campground if you want a close spot to town and the ability to open your tent and see the sun rise over the bay.
Susan “Sunshyne” Mendoza: I love this place but it’s ridiculously cold at night and they still charge full price until nov 1st!!!!”no thanks!
Michael Stevens: An absolutely beautiful place to take your kids or just get away from Salem for a minute. The staff are absolutely incredible. And the sites are really well up keptPlayground: GoodRestrooms: GoodDog-friendliness: GoodPicnic area: Good
ChadwicksManifesto !: Really friendly and suuuuuper helpful in navigating the sights of Salem
Lillie Romero: Restrooms: Not enough/too far from our campsite. I am a bit disabled.
Paul Martin: Campground and park with nice walking trails up and down small hills. Several RV’s and tents. Good place to visit
Cindy Jackson: We enjoyed our stay here while visiting our daughter in Salem. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Quiet, beautiful sunrises, but close quarters, you do have electric and water but no sewer. Dump station is outside the park and cannot use your own portable rv waste holding tank. They could really have a honey wagon for longer stays. We stayed 7 nights.

Winter Island/Waikiki Beach: what do users think?
Pramodh H N: Some good spots for scenic photos. There are no kids play area however.
J. Garty: Very lovely views. It was nice to get out and go down to the beach. Tide was low, and it was early spring on a weekday morning, so it was not busy at all.Dog-friendliness: Saw a couple people walking their dogs on the trail.
Wynter Aiguier: Looks like a promising place to bring the family during the summertime. I wish I could tell you more. But we were just passing through. I will definitely re-review at a later date until then this is what I got..Picnic area: Looks like a lot of grills and areas for families to have a picnic
Cathryn Schmitt: I tent camped for 4 days here, it was very quiet & serene. The bathrooms were clean, my area was also well kept with a decent sized fire pit & a picnic table. Super close to Salem, MA & the beach was beautiful. Absolutely loved my stay here
Ben: A perfect spot for a light hiking and chill-outs in between. There’s a small sand beach too.
Joe Shmoe: Lighthouse is a tad bit underwhelming but the fort is cool.
E Nolan: Went to winter beach in the winter. Cold but awesome!!!!
pedro vera: What a view, story plaques almost everywhere. That's cool about it
alex e: Beautiful!Dog-friendliness: Dog friendly just not on the beach until off seasonPicnic area: Plenty of benches and beautiful views
Pamela Thompson: So very beautiful! Love the trails.
Michael Stevens: Very beautiful and safe Beach for everyonePlayground: Love itRestrooms: GoodDog-friendliness: Not badPicnic area: Beautiful
love travel: It's beautiful & tranquil. You should bring your love honey to spend a romantic afternoon.
Katrina Hanchar: Spent the whole day wading and beachcombing. Loved it! Very peaceful and relaxing. The "rangers" were very kind and patient with all of our midwesterner questions, as we're the locals.Restrooms: Typical state park restroomsDog-friendliness: Many people had them there. Looked like the typical courtesies were expected. Leashes, cleaning up after, etc.Picnic area: Picnic and camp areas were available. Not sure on the rules.
Heather Famigletti: We went in the morning when it was nice and cool and during low tide, it was also very quiet, felt like we had the whole island to ourselves besides a few locals we ran into! We were able to walk out pretty far and get some great shots of the lighthouse! We found some trails and explored the whole island. What a great morning. The lady at the front gate was very informative and super nice.
Jenny and Roger Ackley: LOVE this place! Beautiful views, peaceful and clean.
Gwen Thomas: Lovely little cove
Ewoud Geurtsen: Pretty good small beach, showers and restrooms nearby.
Sally Navarro: A small private beach. Lots of sea shells for Momentos. No dogs allowed on beach. Lots of rocks to climb and sit on. Public restrooms.
Hannah: Nice clean and quiet beach, my only concerns are the cannon fire nearby which is quite alarming and the absolute price gouging for parking.
Jesse Badger: We were here for an outdoor wedding. Facilities and staff were all very nice.
Emily Porter: camped here. it's very much a city experience in terms of light, noise, people, but also a nice blend of nature with the beach and sunset/sunrise and tribes of chaos causing raccoons. very convenient place from which to explore the city.

AMC Ponkapoag Camp: what do users think?
Jillian MacDougall: I love camping here. I've been coming since I was a little kid with my mom and it has always been a peaceful, quiet place to escape the city without having to go too far. In the past couple years, it seems like hiking traffic has picked up a lot. I love to see more people enjoying this place, but please be aware that this area is also a campsite! Campers pay to rent their sites and too many hikers seem annoyed by this lately. If you're hiking through between June-August you will probably run into some campers! Be aware that they paid for the space that they're occupying and try to hike around them or at least be polite. Its uncomfortable when strangers wander into your campsite uninvited during breakfast or while you're changing in the tent and act hostile towards you for occupying the space they like to hike through. I know the space is vacant most of the year, but try to be respectful!
stephen forsyth: I used to run 🏃‍♂️ around the pond kn high school @Blue hills vo tech
Aoife Devine: Awesome private pond
Bonnie Billings: Clean cabins and stunning surroundings this is paradise to those who enjoy naturL beauty. This is a quiet campground with excellent hikes to be had, and I look forward to coming back soon!
Tony Pimental: Best cozy little cabins you would want to camp in. Love it here,,
Anthony DiFranco: Awesome
Michael Elmasian: Awesome cabins , great experience
Cody Hopkins: I love this place!!
steve 075: I love this place
John Lerner: A great family camping experience. If you didn't know you were 10 miles from Boston you think you were in the woods of Maine.
Juliet Lerner: Great peacful place for family and friends!
Truth Seeker: Great experience last year and already have reservations to return!
Debra Benoit: REAL camping, not "commercial" like a lot of places....typical "cabin in the woods" setting. very small area for swimming but canoes are available, and even some floats were available for the kids to play on, very nice life guard when I was there...a lot of interaction with the children, taught them things, he brought food for them to throw to the fish etc.. was very nice. Theres a small rec hall with couches and games for the family, also a very small cabin which teaches about the smaller wildlife in the area. Outhouses, wood stove inside, and we had a screened in porch as well. There was a fire pit and a grill at our site. Prices were incredibly low which is a great bonus!! lots of trails etc.. as well. I almost debated on putting the news out there about this hidden gem : ) it was nice and quiet, simple wood cabin, perfect for a family camping experience : )
Timothy Kane: Dec-2016: Nice spot. Very cozy clean cabin. Efficient wood stove kept wood cost low. Nice view over the pond with beautiful sunsets. Nice hiking around the pond. I would definitely go again.Dec 2017- I went there again and it was just as nice. Very quiet.
Keith Baker: Who knew this sort of camp existed so close to Boston. What a great place for a weekend away.
Rich Crosby: My favorite place to be. When I'm not here, I'm thinking about this place.

Wompatuck State Park: what do users think?
Alan Miller: Plenty of trails and easy walking...going back to bike it
Andrew Buckley: I go here almost every week. Yesterday, I found 4 caves! Here are some pictures:
K Vakarian: This park is absolutely stunning and so peaceful
Lilianna: Perfect for walking, biking and paddle boarding.
Krystyna Roszak: Love hiking there
Matt Griffiths: 26m of great mtn bike trails!
Dileepa Wijayanayake: One of my favorite places to walk, bike, kayak
Scott Payne: Great time everytime
Andre Kurlovs: Honestly, there isn't anything special about "Wompy" from the perspective of natural beauty -- it's a pretty average piece of typical Eastern Mass oak-dominated woods, mostly flat, no vistas. What makes this place stand apart is the paved bike roads and the ability to get there on the commuter rail. The paved roads could use some maintenance, but I'm just grateful that they exist, making this park a decent (albeit a bit bumpy) place to ride even for those with road bikes. It's also right next to the Cohasset commuter rail station so you can bring your bike on the train if you so desire. I have done that a couple of times and spent a few hours riding around and exploring the park.
Bob Clark: Lots of trails! We’ll taken care of. Clean restrooms! Lots to see and do there! Our first visit we hiked, had a picnic overlooking the reservoir and then cooked some sautéed portabellas at the picnic area. All for no entry fee?? This place is a gem! The one downside is getting to/from there. Traffic was miserable which we are not used to. But I’d go again in a flash!
Sooner Rosario: Very nice park but seasonal so be mindful of dates when booking. Showers took a really long time to heat up. (I gave up after some time as the weather was cold and wet outside as well.) Nice size sites. We use a 10x20 tent and was able to pick our own site which was great given we have 6 children that frequent the comfort stations. Beautiful shaded area and lots of hiking trails we did not get to take advantage of due to weather. Easy access into the park and onto the interstate to get to major landmarks. We would come back again, but with better weather hopefully, 😏
Nick Bunker: Our camp site was TINY. It was advertised as being able to fit 2 tents and 2 vehicles. When we got to our site (R1) it was noticeably half the size of the surrounding sites, so much so that my brother's car got stuck because there was no packed ground to park on.The campground itself is noisy and sleep impossible. Fellow campers are loud and inconsiderate, even during the posted quiet hours.Positives: Campground was clean, staff was relatively friendly other than being told a number of times we were parked too close to the road (our only option due to the size of our site)Negatives: site size, noise, bathrooms had no toilet paper
Samuel Santiago: This park is well maintained and it has a peaceful atmosphere. It was a true stress reliever.
Jennifer Garcia: We LOVED it here!! What a find...beautiful trees, fabulous bike trails, nice, large rv sites! Wonderful!!
Ron Rcgtiger: Really nice campground.
Matt Dibb: Tons of trails of all types - paved for biking; trail trails for hiking; single track for trail running/biking. Lots of parking areas near trail heads. Natural spring for fresh water. Visitor's center with clean restrooms, function room, and drinking fountain. Plenty of camping areas with option for power/gas hookup.Playground: Climbing structures and swings near the visitors centerRestrooms: Indoor sinks and toilets at visitors centerDog-friendliness: Lots of trails for walking dogs; park rules require leash or some form of control. Waste receptacles available at major trail heads for disposal.
jennie joyce: Nice clean facilities and so much to explore!
JK Gardner: Nice park and good sized sites. Only 4 stars because our site has a hiking/walking trail going right through it. Only electrical at site, you need to fill with water prior and dump going out.
Dylan Vaughn: Awesome place to walk your dog, and run and ride your bike.
Caitlyn Meeks: Beautiful park, friendly Ranger staff. RV sites lack sewage and water but there is a dump station and water faucets which you can use to fill up your tank. The bathhouse facilities have showers which alas do not really stay hot, and have those industrial grade heads which are abrasive, there's nice dishwashing stations as well. It's very conveniently located and not terribly far from Boston, maybe a half hour drive. If you stay there I highly recommend going to Sugoi sushi in Braintree. Hard to believe this beautiful rustic charming state park is in the middle of Boston's exurbia.

Wompatuck Camp Grounds: what do users think?
Kim A: Large camp sites with lots of trees.
Jacob J: You get a firepit, picnic table, parking spot, and a patch of grass. What more could you need for camping? Buy some firewood at the check-in station and have some fun. No alcohol allowed, though.
David Kim: Clean and quiet. Beautiful place to enjoy the park and the surrounding areas. Friendly staff and guests make the stay very pleasant. Enjoy!
Eric Rauch: Pretty nice campground and not very busy. This puts you within 60 minutes of a lot of things and is a great place to create a home base for an adventurous vacation.
David Pittsley: No swimming , sites look unkept
Sarah Johnson: Beautiful campground and the people are so kind and helpful! The sites are spacious and spread out. We were here in mid June and it was not very busy. Not sure why because it’s a great place. Easy drive to both Boston and Cape Cod. We really enjoyed our time here. Thanks Wompatuck!
Richard Rathbun: Great campsites friendly staff very quiet place to camp
Bo: Everything is great with hot shower but the noise of airplane flying sometimes during night and early morning is pretty annoying
Demi Christakos: Great camping site. Stayed in C-15- was good except it was right near a turn in the road, so lots of people stopped unsure whether to turn or go straight. Site had a picnic table and fire pit with a grill above a part of the fire. Bring a clean grate or foil to cook on. There is a bright light for night time. Bring something to cover it if you don't want it. An ok distance between sites. Quiet hours at 10. Bathrooms were close by. Loved the acorns raining down on us at night. It was suggested we only needed 3 firewood bundles($7 each). We used 13 bundles (fire from 3pm - midnight). Someone had left a long stick to use for a fireplace poker. Labrador approved.
My Flowers: It's really good. We like coming there.
Nick Okeeffe: I am currently still staying here but the customer service people here are great nobody bothers you plenty of room to yourself the shower stalls are cleaned every so often and they are actually clean hot showers place is just amazing all-around especially pricing!!!
Brad Pollock: You must be picky with your spot because some are VERY sloped. If you are tent camping or in a short trailer, this may not be an issue, but if your RV is bigger, be warned. But the location is great. Boston and the harbor are a short drive. So many trails to hike. Also, make sure you map the main entrance, because Google maps will try to take you down hiking trails and closed service roads. We ended up on a residential street dead end that was a small parking lot for a hiking trail. It was a real pain to get turned around and included having to unhook our toad.
Laura La Rosa: Love coming here to camp, definitely like to get a site with electricity, but if there's not an electric site I don't mind camping old school with lanterns,Also there is so much to do in this area of Hingham or if you want to go out driving and go exploring around all the different cities and towns.
Danielle Andrews: never again will i go here again. they dont allow visitersnothing to do just woods
Will Buckley: Great facilities!
Cynthia M: Camping here is awesome and beautiful! A wonderful woodsy experience!
Sudhish Singh: Huge campground with almost 250 sites although sections of campground were closed due to pandemic. Open sections also had few sites closed so it didn't feel crowded although a lot more campers showed Friday evening. The sites are on the smaller side but enough for 2 tents and a car. Bathrooms were clean and showers had sufficient hot water. Each bathroom had a kitchen sink outside for dishes. Standard electric site had 50/30/20 sockets which is great even if you are not using an RV. There are lot of trails for biking or hiking (make sure to pick a map at the entrance). We saw few deer while walking along Aaron river
Kevin Sosinsky: Nice place. Clean shower, central to so many activities.
Basket Case: I would have given a five star rating on this campground with the exception of the bathhouses!😱👎 Black mold! I was afraid to touch the shower walls, I took one shower there in the two weeks we stayed there because it was so disgusting. The other days we showered at my nieces place. Otherwise it's a beautiful setting and would only consider if I had full hookup including water, sewer and electric.
WAYNE DEWITT: Love that they have electricity!!!! Awesome time!
I W: Peaceful,Clean,Safe

Kathryn Barrett-Gaines: Gem of a park. Great rv sites.
Beverly Rowlett: I was just there last week for four days. We had a huge campsite. Loved the space of the site. The people at the office were very nice and very helpful, as well the rangers. We had such a great time there. Tons of trails to go bike riding. We will definitely be going back soon.
Will Buckley: Nice entrance. Not much to say. It is an enterance

Drew Bradshaw: A Real Gem. 30 yrs Ago Boston Harbor was in tough shape!! With the construction of the New treatment plant on deer island and upgrades on other systems Boston Harbor now has sprung to life. Seals and porpoise are back. Klaus Earl Loft: Easy paths to walk
Brittney Stark: Great landscape great trails beautiful place
Alexander Herlihy: Meh
Ben Halaby (Halaby): Super gun and very seen it you can get a lot of exercise here have been going here for a while
Robyn Neil: Great camping
Robin Ordelheide: Best place in the world to ride a mountain bike... quiet meadows, the aron river reservoir, campsites and lots and lots of trails from easy to "get off your bike and walk this one"
Kim Linde: Nice place to walk with lots of trails to take your dogs or just a hike or bike. I wish people did more to pick up after their dogs though
Jen Doyle: Great walking or biking trails, great for strollers it's all paved. You could go for miles it's huge! Be careful not to get lost. People often walk dogs off leash. Can get buggy as it is all woods. There was a bear sighting reported but that is uncommon. You could probably get a wheelchair in there I put a ? Because the entry is a little narrow.
Hailey bestick: Its a wounderfull park to make it stay that way clean up after yoursefl and children and dogs dont litter things live in the park

Hanscom AFB FamCamp: what do users think?
She-ron Shaver: We stayed here 2 nights, nice area with decent spots for your RV, but the rules are ridiculous!🚾Bathrooms were good and showers were handicap showers so lots of room! 🚿It is a first come first serve bases for spots so you can’t make a reservation here but the price for FHU is $29.72 for a smaller travel trailer, so good price.🛫The downside of this FamCamp is it is right beside the airfield for the base sooo it’s loud as they are flying most of the day into the night. 🛬Overall we would stay here for a night again but their rules (which I have in one of the pics) is a lot!
Jim Pfarr: Nice campground with great facilities for active duty and veterans alike. Located right next to the runway so it's noisy during the day, but overnight there is very little traffic. Camping pads are mostly out in the open without trees although there are about 20 in the trees with nice shade. Located very close to the Minutemen National Historic Park and right between Lexington and Concord, so there is some very interesting history right close by.
Tymika Bates: Great location, great site, RUDE STAFF. Staff was making copies while other customers filled out paperwork, I said "Hey can you answer a quick question?" While other people were busy filling out documents and staff making copies, she seemed to ignore me as if I weren't there and then responded after a few seconds with "One at a time" other customer laughed at her rudeness, but I did not find it to be great customer service or humorous. My question was if an email of pet vaccinations would suffice, instead she had conversations once she sat down about how long ago certain Airmen were in service and proceeded to ignore that I had a quick question for her.
Brandon Durrett: Great campground. Cheap too!
Gail Wagner: Love this place! You MUST have a military ID to camp here but nice and clean and quiet.. so nice.
Junu Hada: Great sunset view and nearby the airport so enjoy the view of planes landing and flight.
Shawn Crawford: Great little camp. We stayed for almost two weeks while my wife was in the hospital in Boston. Ann-Marie and Norm were Awesome CG host. They offered to watch after and walk my dog while I was out at the hospital. They run a safe and secure campground. Other campers were great and made you feel welcome. The only thing I would like to see is that they take reservations due to how busy they get. However, Ann Marie said they had to never turn anyone away. Commissary is a good place to shop and with very fair prices. You cant beat the price for FHU 26.00 a day. Lots to do and see in Boston area.I have returned three more times being that I live only a few hours away. My kids love this place and cant wait to go back this coming year.
Tia Gump: So the good...the staff was awesome when we where there the grounds where nice .The community areas where clean and inviting.also close to Boston with so much to see and do. However it's been a long while & things change. The bad (at least for us) is this famcamp is geared towards rv camping and that trip we took our tent .no campfires on your site ,for the kids that sucked alittle and teenagers get bored easily . This famcamp is post adjacent (outside the wire) . a few of the famcamps we have visited have been close enough to the flight line that the kids would watch the planes take off .but this one felt and sounded much closer. All things i wish i had known in advance and the reason I'm sharing .Over all everyone still enojoyed our visit and we would most likely visit again in our rv
shelley richardson: No reservations allowed, but always a place to park for military. Enjoy the community campfire and wash clothes for $1 each wash and dry. I would stay here again for $26 FHU.
My Email: For the price I'm ecstatic! Very quiet and clean. the airfield is next door but I was a grunt so it doesnt bother me at all, it's really not that bad. Also the people camping here ARE ALL active, military spouses or retired military. That's awsome because everyone is curtious and well mannered with no civilians turning this place into a zoo. Bathrooms are ok and the wifi isn't great. I would definitely stay here again
ELIYANA LeYFORD: Winter time and Spring and Summer are very Different. This is the Closest RV Famcamp to Boston
David Slagger: Noisy
jill caddell: First let me say to all the complainers out there...be thankful that the government is willing to provide RV sites, it is a privilege not a right to have it provided for active duty and retirees. They might not be perfect but most of the ones we've stayed in would get at least three stars from me and I am extremely picky. The famcamp is fairly close to Boston. It does not have amenities, so what, the price is great for what you get. I thought the sites were nice, we did stayed in a wider longer site which cost $3.00 more a day, well worth the extra money. The airport and planes did not bother us. They took off from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm so not a problem, we actually enjoyed watching them take off at sunset. Now for the negatives.... they don't allow small dog fences at the sites which is stupid, period. It's the only famcamp I've stayed at that has that rule. They don't have a reason for it either which makes it more stupid. Last negative, we needed propane the morning we left. I had to try and find the maintenance man because he did not have a cell or pager that alerts him when the office tries to contact him. This needs to be rectified. He finally noticed our RV at the propane tank and came over.
Angie White: Stayed almost a week. The site we had was level and neat and clean. We extended our stay twice. Once because there are so many historic things to see. And a second time because the u joint went out on the truck. The lady in the office is so nice and super helpful. She gave us info on how to get to the city and what to see. The camp grounds are right on an airport fence. But I like watching the planes and it's a smaller airport. We would for sure come back.
Suzi Kahrs: Very nice sites. Internet isn't great, but you can't beat the price.
Kevin Brackney: No reservations was surprising, but the staff were very friendly and helpful!!!!
David Brugger: Big rigs great for see boston
Cindy Nipper: Wonderful location! First come first serve spots just off base of Hanscom AFB! Military affiliation required!
C Smoothsk8ter: Stayed here for a little over a month and enjoyed my visit. Ann Marie, Norm and Shannon who work in the office are very nice!! Nice laundry room and clubhouse although a pool table or something to do in the clubhouse would be nice. But great place to hang out and talk. Also enjoyed the fact that almost every night there's a Camp Fire with a circle of people visiting. And while I was here they had the potato bake which was awesome!! As with most campgrounds I've met very nice people here :)
Венера Балкибекова: Хороший кэмпинг, с душем, прачечной
M. O'Jak: Avis aux français ! Il s'agit d'un camping réservé aux seuls militaires des USA !
