Taste of Guizhou 贵州味道: what do users think?
Xiangyi Meng: Awesome and authentic! I ordered takeouts, and the packaging was very considerate (see my photo. they wrapped it with an extra plastic film).
孙格强: Half authentic Chinese local food. Recommend to have a tryDine in: Yes Outdoor seating: No Takeout: Yes Delivery: Yes Curbside pickup: No …More
Eugene Eva Deutsch: Our first visit. Friendly service, 4 tables. Had hot and sour beef soup, very tasty, excellent noodles, but a little greasy. We also had the chicken dish, with potatoes and noodles, also tasty, BUT the little bits of chicken bones made it difficult to eat, worried about breaking my teeth, and the noodles were thick and soggy. Won't get that again. Maybe authentic, but won't work for American taste.
ZIXI LIAO: Ordered two featured rice noodles, package is fine, but the taste is not so good, let along they are a bit over priced in my opinion. Definitely won’t come back for this kind of flavor. Not recommend. 不知道为什么小红书上有那么多好评, 粉的味道还不如我在家做的,真是太后悔了,早知道就去点越南粉了。anyway, 应该不会再来了。
Deborah C: Ordered delivery from here through ChowBus for a Friday lunch. I got the Guizhou Style Cold Noodles and while they were delicious, they were a lot spicier than I expected. I would definitely try them again, but would opt for something a little milder. Overall a good value and what I thought was a good introduction to Guizhou cuisine!Takeout: Yes …More
Sophia Zhang: Came because they were featured on Eater.com and I really wanted to like this place but I was not impressed. The sticky rice with sausage was dry and the stir fried conch/snails had bits of crunchy shell in it. The rice noodle soup was the best dish but the menu needs a bit more variety (especially vegetables). Also be warned the spice level sets your mouth on fire🔥
Chaoyi Liu: Very delicious and thoughtful packaging!推荐大盘鸡 分量很多,这家店包装也很仔细,强烈推荐一试
Tatsu Ikeda: The name is “Taste of Guizhou” and the Chinese is the same, Guizhou Taste. 贵州 味道You have never had this because this is the first Guizhou restaurant in Boston. The menu is simple, noodle dishes and the star is the emblematic Guizhou Huaxi Beef Noodle Soup. You can not have rice noodle but that would be strange. Huaxi is part of Guiyang, the capitol of Guizhou. The rice noodles here have a great bite and bounce back when they hit the table and like all rice noodle in soup, stay firm. The broth, which I suggest delicately savoring a bit before disturbing the other side of the bowl where the sour cabbage lies, is subtle but complex in seasoning. The beef slices, something lean, like eye round, flank, or chuck perhaps, are topped off with very fragrant and what must be freshly ground white pepper. The sour cabbage pieces shimmering beneath the surface along one side give the bowl a tangy spruce. I’ve only had Yunnan style rice noodle soups, and while Yunnan and Guizhou are neighbors, this is very different. It would have been nice to have some chili oil to add in, as that is customary but I enjoyed my first bowl unadorned as to appreciate it’s core essences. The family owners are from Guiyang, the capital of this landlocked province. While most Chinese from the coastal provinces think Guizhou as “back country” and it is, Guiyang has 5 million people, double Boston’s entire metro area, and boasts many more high rises than Boston will ever have. Still it is somewhat less common to see southwestern Chinese people in the US, so I was very excited to spot this under everyone’s nose! The restaurant has been operating for two months already. While some of expat Boston University students have found there way, it’s still very much down low. I ate alone at dinner primetime hour, except when the father, mother, and son stepped in to have dinner themselves. There is one other cook. There were no phone calls or online orders. I helped a woman who walked in order, she thought it was still “Wing It” the former chicken wing place. What did I steer her to? Chicken, of course!Which brings me to their other offering, “Hot Chicken Stew”. I suspected it was Xinjiang Big Plate Chicken and I was right. It had the wide belt noodles on the bottom, which were frankly a little soggy, but the potatoes and chicken were great. It is very advantageous to get this in 3 different sizes, usually if you see this on a menu, it’s really one size, and it’s big, hence it’s name. Getting a single serve size to go is very convenient. You can eat it in your car and pretend you are a Xinjiang truck driver, the people who this dish was invented for on the side of a highway in the 1980’s. Big Plate Chicken or Da Pan Ji 大盘鸡 is one of those China-wide dishes found all over the country, like Ma Po Tofu. It’s been available in Boston for some time, since Chef Chang’s and Shaanxi Gourmet debuted some years back, but never in varying sizes, or on rice, which might be the better way to get it here.Guizhou Taste offers 4 variations on the noodle soups, and other types of noodles are available if you so desire. A cold noodle dish is only $8.85 while the Huaxi version is $13.45. This is ideal student dining! It was sad to see a few Chinese students walk by, not even looking in the window, because they think it’s still chicken wings! Also on the menu, stir-fried snails, tofu ball, dough stick wrapped in flour tortilla, and sticky rice with sausage. Lunch combos are a mere $7.45! Anything else? Yea, some salads, and fried rices. That’s it!Taste of Guizhou is a very bare-bones offering of a few of Guizhou’s specialties, but they can grow in time. Very few modifications have been done, except tables and chairs, and many of the consumables, including the printed menus, have been furnished by the delivery app companies. Come for the Huaxi noodle soup, stay for the big plate chicken! They close at 8:30pm and are not open Mondays. Order online from Hungry Panda, Ricepo, Seamless, et al.

Mary Chung Restaurant: what do users think?
TB Chambers: Fond memoriesSad it closedYet all good things must come to an endMay God—Father, Son, and the Holy Ghost—bless you, Mary Chung, and family!
Sean Westgate: Sadly this restaurant is closed permanently from what I understand. We went a couple times in the last month which was December 2022. Farewell Mary and all your workers and family members. Thanks for the good food over the years!Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 …More

Ricky Wat: Delicious
Chris Lahey: If you like spicy food, try the suan la chow show. I don't, so I get wonton soup. So tasty.Update: Mary's is closing Dec 31 2022
Lydia Chew: 🚨 CLOSING SOON (12/31/2022) 🚨They've been a Cambridge Central Square staple for decades but are unfortunately closing shop at the end of 2022. They never reopened for dine in after COVID. I went to check them out, knowing that pretty soon the opportunity would be gone, and I was astonished to hear that the average wait time for orders was upwards of 2 hours. Their kitchen has been incredibly backed up and they don't take orders online or over the phone. I'm not sure if the massive wait is because everyone is trying to eat there before they close, or if this issue has been ongoing throughout the pandemic, but party after party left upon hearing the estimated wait time.I ordered the scallion pancakes. Since it was a simple appetizer, it was ready within the hour. It was indeed pretty good, and it was paired with a very tasty soy sauce. I hadn't had that particular combination before but quite enjoyed it.Vegetarian options: Most of their popular dishes have meat, though they can make some of them in a vegetarian variation.
Charles Griswold: Mary Chungs has always had great food, but sadly Ms Chung is now in her 80s and is closing the restaurant, end of an eraFood: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 3/5 …More
Haley Martin: ETA: I’m so sad to hear you’ll be closing down. I will miss you and you will hold a special place in my heart always.Mary Chungs used to be my goto and favorite place in Central. They must've changed a chef or recipes because it's just not the same. I've gotten sesame tofu twice now, hoping it would be better, only to get an extremely watery and oversweet sauce.
Lisa Santoro: Orange beef absolutely terrible. It looks like they peeled an orange and thew the peels into the container. Beef was gray and overcooked.
Grant Barthelmes: I paid $17 and got half of the amount I expected and usually get at Chinese restaurants. Then I open the bag and there’s no rice with the dish either! The quality was only okay.
Nancy Feng: Mary Chungs best restaurant
Passing Stranger: Food was very watery, sauces were extremely bland.
JK Ames: Honestly, this is one of my favorite restaurants in the world. Or it was?Refusing dine-in service when pretty much every other single restaurant in the country has reopened is cheap and lazy. It seems clear at this point that they simply don't want to rehire wait staff and it has nothing to do with pandemic concerns.Quality isn't the same for takeout, and for me (I now only visit Boston occasionally - don't live here) basically makes it impossible to enjoy their food.
Annie Brown: Mary Chung's dun dun noodles are the best!
Sonii B: I was in Cambridge visiting my family. My dad wanted some egg foo young which he hadn’t had for awhile. I tried a few restaurants before Mary Chung’s said they could make it. When I picked up my order, I was asked how I knew they had egg foo young since it’s not on the menu…also that their chef can make anything he’s that talented. Guess what? It was the best I’ve ever had and that’s saying a lot. I will definitely return.
Audrey Barnes: Mary chungs is the best chinese food in Boston. They are not reopen for dining as it is only run by the couple themselves. Mary has been a staple to the cambridge community for over 30 years. Thank you for staying open!! If your in cambridge you have to stop by for take out.
Veronica Wisniewski: It’s been 30 some Years since I’ve eaten here. So this is a nostalgia review. I now live on the west coast near Richmond BC where you can find Chinese food people travel from Hong Kong for. It’s that good. I’ve never found anything like the Soan la shoa choa and Dun dun noodles served at Mary’s. They were that good. Reviews suggest the recipes and preparation have been passed down. May the legacy continue. I hope that I will someday have the chance again.
Henrik Toncic: Still the best, most flavorful Chinese food anywhere in the vicinity. Their sauces are sublime!!! Dumpling sauce, peanut sauce, duck sauce, everything. Good generals too. Thank you for so many years of consistent quality service.
Eli Hochberg: I ordered a beef dish and soup. The soup had almost no flavor, mostly just hot water and the beef was chewy. The food just overall did not have very much flavor.
Kyle L.: Been going here my entire life, it's still my favorite restaurant, period. Hands down. Enough said.
Brendan Tompkins: Dine in: Yes Takeout: Yes Delivery: YesMore

Dumpling House: what do users think?
Danny Cohen: My favorite Chinese food in Cambridge! I come here at least once a month just to get my soup dumpling fix.
Simi: Ordered a smorgasbord of delicious food on Saturday, we arrived early for dinner (about 5) and already it was getting busy! We enjoyed the scallion pancakes and mini pork soup dumplings, tried several other things but these were the standouts for us!Food: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 4/5Recommended dishes Mini Soup Dumplings w Pork 7 小笼包, Scallion Pancakes Parking space Somewhat difficult to find parking Parking options Paid street parking …More

Jackie Owens: Great dumplings, but also a wide selection of other dishes makes this a wonderful stop if in Cambridge. I went at 3 pm, but service was excellent even in the middle of shift change. I went for the soup dumplings specifically, but would explore most of the menu if I had the chance. Utensils and hand sanitizer are organized and handy for each table.
정신영: We ordered cold jellyfish(해파리냉채), mini soup dumplings with pork(소룡포) and crispy duck.If you're expecting mini soup dumplings like in Din Tai Fung, I don't recommend it. The dumpling skin is thicker and the pork is less juicy. But the Cold jellyfish is delicious. I never thought I would be able to eat this in the US. I will visit here for cold jellyfish.Crispy duck was not what I imagined. What I expect was thinly sliced duck wrapped in wheat cakes with vegetables, that is Beijing duck. However, this duck is a roast duck. But the taste is good.Their name is Dumpling House, but unfortunately the dumplings are the worst.😅
Jim Manning: So lucky to have this in our neighborhood! Good food, but a couple of dishes were disappointing.
G Frye: Their food was great. I liked going there when I lived in Cambridge. When I returned years later, the dishes were more saucy and oily then I remembered. They were busy, but the service was fast. They were able to seat our big party without any wait time on a week night.

Derek Thomas: Very very good place to have a lunch. Stylish environment and great food. Service was excellent too. I typically order very spicy food, do take their heat scale seriously. It’s as spicy as they say. I will be back!

Thomas Brady: Attended a private function here. The room was private, but still attached to the sounds of the restaurant. The waiters were attentive but not obtrusive. Dishes were passed around. Food was delicious.Parking: After 5 PM lots of street parking opens up in the surrounding two block area.
Michael Cerqueira: Very decent food and great spices. Recommended
Leopoldo Gracia: Delicious food and the place is cute, but definitely on the pricey side
Liz Guo: Best Hunan restaurant in town. Flavor is great and ingredients are fresh. My fav is Sumiao Tofu pot.
Paul L: Very authentic food!
Yanran Xu: Not bad! The crispy duck is delicious!
Han J (HJ): If I could give 0 stars I would. As a frequent customer to the place through online ordering, I found the food quality has been dropping recently. Especially, last night me and my boyfriend had dinner there, and then after we came home, both of us started to develop serious food poisoning symptoms like diarrhea and stomachache and therefore a sleepless night due to that. Bonus: there was a dead cockroach lying on the window mullion right next to me.
S K: Good experience.
Dan M: Got the dine out boston menu here this week. Although good portions and delicious food. 2 points off because I asked for mild chicken and my GF wanted spicy and they swapped them. Thankfully I can eat spicy but imagine if I couldn’t. Service was fair as well. I’ve come here before years ago when they opened and found it to be overly spicy as well. I realize it’s the style of cuisine however I asked for mild and my mouth was on fire — you can see the leftover chilis in my bowl once I put the rest of the chicken in my to go box.
Victor Serebrov: Food: 4/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 4/5More
Ivan Ang: It will be hard to find a place that has more authentic Mala Hunan food. For the real Hunan Chinese experience ask your server for "authentic spice" and send your taste buds on a trip round the worldFood: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 …More
Marek Michalak: Went as a part of Dine Out Boston. We ordered shrimp shumai (decent by a bit bland in taste) and spicy cucumber (more sweet tha spicy) as starters, their golden soup and the hot and sour soup (both were ok). The best part of the Dine Out menu were entrées - we got the popcorn chicken and the spicy cauliflower. We chose the cauliflower to be “authentic” spicy and the chicken to be “regular” spicy, but they seemed to be mixed up as the spiciest was definitely the chicken so look out for that! We also ended up waiting for rice a bit longer than expected, while the main dishes were already at the table. Conclusion - while the entire menu is long and can be a bit overwhelming, there are definitely some good dishes to be had there, but not everything is on the same level.
Yvonne Yang: Dine out Boston special lunch menu. Very delicious. Reasonable price.

Rasika Phansalkar: This is my favorite Chinese restaurant in Bosoton area. They know their flavors so well, it makes you feel alive. I am glad they exist and I wish them well and hope that they continue to maintain this quality. I love Sumiao. ❤️

Antonio Cardoso: Rude people, I called to order over the phone woman was rude….
Juan Fernandez: Bad attitude from the waitress. I was greeted at the door with "we will be closing in 30 minutes". I'll tell you I'm a chef at an italian restaurant, and I will never in my life greet a customer with "we will close in 30 minutes" remark. Main dishes don't even come with white rice. A solid "will not return" restaurant. The chicken lo-mein doesn't even have chicken. It's a scam of a restaurant. Plus, the restroom smell is gross. Rajesh Prabhu: Great place if you wanted to try dinner Chinese food. My office is right next to this place and I tried it for the first time. I got the scallop with garlic sauce and some spring rolls. The food was amazing. The brown rice was plain and didn't have any taste. It was empty at around 2pm. Customer service was great and it's in a great location. They have outdoor dining but it's closed for the season I guess. One star less is because of the person who was serving my food was coughing and sneezing and also was not wearing masks. I don't care if you wear masks or not but at least wear a mask if you have a flu during this covid time. I had to rush eating my food and leave the place. Hope my next visit will be better. 🙏🙏🙏
Daniel Suit: Very good and flavorful food here!
A Fan: My group and I enjoyed dining here. We felt welcomed and were not rushed to order immediately. The hostess and staff were warm and helpful explaining parts of the menu that were unclear to us.Do not mistake Royal East restaurant as just a Chinese restaurant. It is only partly Chinese with lots of Malaysian flair.Almost everything that my table and I ordered was delicious and perfectly spiced. The ONLY minus was the chicken curry dish. The chicken was evenly cooked, yet somehow tasted raw. The well-spiced sauce did not and could not cover the raw taste of any of the chicken pieces, which seemed to have not been at all pre-seasoned but just mixed blandly into the sauce. The television playing at the front of the restaurant was a bit distracting and almost took away from the ambiance, but the others at my table totally disregarded it and paid no mind. So, I guess it was just another "me" issue.I'll definitely come back and dine at Royal East for the courteous service, cleanliness, cocktails and delicious food. I'll just skip the chicken menu.Vegetarian options: There's plenty of vegetarian options.
Gordon ck: I from Malaysia but this food not good Flushing better than this store…Very bad
Kelly Cambridgeport: Royal East Restaurant in Cambridge serves Malaysian cuisine with some Cantonese mainstays that were part of the original menu from years back. Back in spring 2022, a large group of 22 people dined at Royal East for $75 each which included taxes and tips. There is no surcharge for the room reserved. On the evening we had dinner, the restaurant was at 20% capacity. The women's bathroom has two stalls of which one had an out-of-order sign. The grand total given to Royal East was $1,650.On the menu were the following items:• Appetizers (Roti Canai, Poh Piah, Halal Chicken Satay)• Bak Kut Teh (Herbal Soup)• Hainanese Chicken (deboned)• Dungeness Crab with Malaysian Chili Sauce• Beef Rendang• Pan Seared Whole Grey Sole Fish in Sambal Sauce• Udang Kelapa (Coconut Jumbo Prawns)• Malaysian Curry Tofu & Vegetables• Kangkung Belacan• Char Kueh Teow• Buh Buh Cha Cha (Dessert)The food was delicious. My issue is the quantity of the food provided to the group of 22, based on the $1,650 given to the restaurant. I have the menu prices and estimate quantities of the food. In many cases, the quantities I noted are a generous estimate on my part:4 Roti Canai 4 x $7 = $284 Poh Pian 4 x $8 = $324 Halal Chicken Satay 4 x $8 = $324 Bak Kut Teh 4 x $8 = $324 Halves of Hainanese Chicken 4 x $18 = $722 Dungeness Crab with Malaysian Chili Sauce 2 x $30 = $60 (high estimate)4 Beef Rendang 4 x $21 = $842 Pan Seared Whole Grey Sole Fish in Sambal Sauce 2 x $21 = $422 Udang Kelapa (coconut shrimp) = 2 x $23 = $464 Malaysian Curry Tofu & Vegetables 4 x $15 = $604 Kangkung Belacan 4 x $15 = $604 Char Kueh Teow 4 x 10 = $4022 Buh Buh Cha Cha (Dessert)-- 22 x $3 = $66 (high estimate)Retail amount of food provided: $654This means the restaurant collected approximately $1,000 for taxes and tips.If you are in a large group, rather than planning a menu with the restaurant, I would recommend making a reservation and then order from the menu once your group arrives at the restaurant. The total cost will be significantly less than if you plan a menu with Royal East. For Udang Kelapa, each person at my table had exactly one piece of broccoli and one shrimp. The Roti Canai was delicious, but two of them per table of 11 wasn't enough to go around. The Poh Piah is a veggie roll filled with steamed jicama and mixed vegetables in a wrap, drizzled with sauces. There were 12 one-inch pieces per table, which meant a small 1-inch piece for each person with one remaining piece per table. No rice was included in the meal which is strange for a menu that is salty and spicy. The restaurant was parsimonious with the quantities given how much it was paid. For $75 per person, we each could have individually ordered 4 or 5 dishes and have enough for taxes and tip.A group member pointed out that he was overcharged for a drink and the server shrugged and said the drink menu prices were outdated. The server had placed one water carafe per table and didn't replenish it until asked.
