R J: 1973 Ariens Sno-Thro. Owned by my father-in-law, the late, great Paul Haché. This tank saw action in the Battle of the Blizzard of ‘78. A decorated war hero, when it died a couple years ago we couldn’t just toss it . It’s a family member. I had a couple mobile guys take it and bring it back “fixed”. They were in over their head. I tried several times to fix it on my own . I am pretty good with lawnmowers and cars but these things are not in my wheelhouse. But I didn’t want to give up on it. So we shoveled until I found a little hole in the wall shop on the Watertown/Waltham/Belmont line. D&M Lawn/Snow on Orchard. If you want a best friend Tom is not going to make you happy. But if you want a guy that could build you a snowblower from scratch if he had to, then this is the place. It needed an engine and many other things. To save us $$ He had me pick up an engine at Harbor Freight that is as close to a Honda (the gold standard now) as you get for half the cost, and he restored a machine that suffered a lot of neglect over the last fifty years. He even redid the original logo. If it passes it’s test this winter , it won’t go anywhere else.
Seth Levenson: I brought in a dead Toro 621 snowblower which had gone at least 4 years without any maintenance. Tom is very knowledgeable and was clear about what needed to be done. Picked up the machine and it looks brand new and runs better than new if that's possible. (Just call before you go to pick up your snowblower to make sure he's not out on deliveries.)
Rich Gockelman: I have a Troy Bilt lawn mower that would not start after the Winter season. I called Tom and he told me to come by his shop. I thought I was going to have to drop it off and pick it up in a couple of weeks but Tom said he could work on it right then. Tom's shop is eclectic and he has just about every tool. Tom is very conscientious about his work and does a good job. He got my mower running again and had good tips on maintaining my mower. I will be back to have Tom do the maintenance work on my lawn mower and snow blower.

Nicole Bertucci Woods: Tom is awesome...I am so glad I found him. The guy knows what he’s doing, really knows his stuff and doesn’t rip you off. I brought in a lawnmower that pretty much should have been put to sleep and he resurrected it- totally figured out what the issues were, and gave me advice on maintenance. I wish I found him before I bought this piece of junk because he had a mower in better condition that he could have sold me (so if you’re looking for things like used mowers/appliances - check with D&M - don’t trust Craigslist).He’s a really cool guy- fun to chat with. Wish I had more things to be repaired right now but I will definitely go back!
Jeff Seamster: Tom is quite the character - be ready for an adventure. We stopped by with an older Craftsman mower that we bought second hand. It wouldn't start and we had no idea where to begin troubleshooting it. He brought us immediately through his shop to have a look and had it dismantled in just a few minutes. I was grateful that Tom talked us through every step he took and explained what was wrong with the mower as he fixed it and put it back together. It now runs like a dream and if I need any further work done, D & M will be my first stop.
Mark Palmer: Tom's demeanor is gruff, which is fine -- if he did quality work. I simply needed a quick sharpening of my mower blades, so I called ahead, he confirmed he sharpens while you wait, and I drove over. I had one old blade and a new blade. The new blade needed balancing, and he walked to the back of the shop -- still in sight and earshot -- and started with that. Two minutes into it, he drops the f-bomb loudly. Not what I wanted to hear. He continues to work on it for a few more minutes, then brings it back to the front with a large gouge and said 'it's just a mis-queue, don't worry about that". $20 new blade I just purchased looks like junk. I should have stopped him there, but I foolishly waited for him to complete the second blade. That one he ground for almost 10 minutes, occasionally stopping to take it to the sink to cool it under water and complain how he "hates working with these blades". I couldn't believe he does business this way. When he returned with the second blade he charged me $10 for two blades that were in about as rough a condition as I could have easily done for myself. I had hoped to pay for professional skill and experience, instead I paid for incompetence. I had to take them home and hand file them to finish the edges. I would NOT recommend having your blades sharpened here, he doesn't have the skill to present you with something that won't leave your grass blades in bad shape.

Solomon Murungu: Excellent Service! I brought a lawn mower that would not start. Most establishments would simply say drop it off and come back, but Tom, the owner looked at it and said "if you can wait, I will take a look at it'. I waited and in a few minutes he had my mower running. Cleaned up the air filter and the unit itself and he wasn't even going to charge me! I insisted.Where else do you find such great service?
Henry Marcucella: I called D & M Lawn and Snow Equipment when my small Hyundai generator stopped working. I was expecting to drop it off to have them look at it when they had time. When I got there, Tom quickly pulled it apart, diagnosed the problem and got it back up running. He cleaned it up nice and took time explaining why it had failed. He even called the manufacturer and got the repair covered by the warranty. I will definitely use D & M Lawn and Snow Equipment again in the future as well as recommend them to others. Great expert service at a very reasonable price.

The waiting list they told me could be 4-5 weeks then I search a few companies that could do small engine repair and finally I connected with an M&S repair company. He was on point with the issue and told me that he will charge me $125.00 and will pick it up tonight. He came in the same night and picked it up from our driveway and he told me that he will drop it off tomorrow night. Hard to believe, however that was true.I could not be happier more with quality service, punctuality, and frankness with the price.I already scheduled to get my snowblower tune-up for this upcoming winter.The best company to deal

I had a mower with a stuck bolt, figured I’d bring it by and the gentleman at the counter was kind enough two immediately help me out and use one of their power tools to loosen it. It’s not like I called with a heads up, it was also just before close. Definitely went out of his way to give me a hand and I really appreciated that. I will absolutely be bringing any small engine repair needs to this place.
