Laura Ferrer: From the first time I called Noor Oriental Rugs to ask about having our rugs cleaned, our family has been blessed by the connection. Mr. Nooraee and I became quick friends, drawn to the spirit of joy and love for neighbor that we found in each other. Over the years, we have developed a deep, unconditional friendship, built over shared cups of tea and meals, some of them served during the Sufi Service brunch or volunteer times, and others in celebration of our birthdays or holiday celebrations. We always laugh together, enjoying life and wonderful hospitality, and our friendship has formed a cornerstone in my family, for my son and me and our extended family. The community there seemed so genuinely friendly and close-knit. When I first volunteered, my mom and I were welcomed immediately. Mr. Nooraee, the organizer, offers tea and pastries right at the point of arriving and all volunteers dine with him for lunch. Every Saturday, volunteers gather to organize food and clothing for the homeless. It’s always a pleasure working alongside Mr. Nooraee and the other volunteers. Everyone is friendly and generous and it’s refreshing to see people come together when we’re all so different. Mr. Nooraee is very charitable and understanding, he gave me a complimentary rug and insisted on giving us snacks before we left. We always look forward to going back and being in his company. His store is beautifully kept and he is always dedicated to his customers. The rugs are beautifully designed and kept. I love seeing the designs every time I go there.

Jon Dreyer: I had a few Oriental rugs that were over 50 years old, and let's just say I'm not the most meticulous housekeeper, so they looked pretty ratty and tired. After the rugs made a visit to Varter's, they came out looking brand new. In one case, there was an ink stain they could not remove chemically so they removed a bit of fabric and rewove it with new matching wool. I can't find that spot now. Really amazing workmanship and attention to detail.

Whenever I walk into the store I immediately feel welcomed and attended to in the most friendly, thoughtful and attentive way. The lovely owner as well as every employee I have interacted with there has been nothing but delightful to work with. On multiple occasions I have given vague descriptions of what i was looking for and they have been so generous and patient with their time, going through piles and piles of rugs trying to find just the right style, color and size, even allowing me to take home multiple rugs to try them out and see how they look before deciding. I never felt pressured to buy, I just felt a genuine sense that they wanted to help me find a perfect rug. They have hundreds of rugs kept in beautiful condition and the owner is so helpful in explaining all the differences in how they are made, their countries of origin, how to keep them clean. They also cut a rug pad to fit which is so helpful. After several interactions with them I brought in a beloved big beautiful old rug that had never been deep cleaned since it was passed down to us and was fraying at the edges. The owner went over in detail what she would do to clean and mend it. When I picked it up she again spent the time to explain everything about what they had done and even showed me pictures of the process and how much hidden dirt they had been able to get out (amazing and disgusting to see what the vacuum wasn’t able to get!) I couldn’t recommend this business more highly and will go back to them for any rug purchases or care of any rugs that I value in the future.
