Beyond Fitness Pilates Studio: what do users think?
Jade Dionna: Kind and welcoming to beginners!
Alisa L: Great small class pilates and barre class spot in a very nondescript location. Definitely not a fancy gym, but the instruction is top notch and mat classes max out at 11 people so you get lots of personalized attention.

Fitlab Pilates: what do users think?
Sophie Ward: I’ve been going here for years now and I can’t speak more highly of the expertise and kindness of the instructors, the quality of the equipment and just the overall way the business is run. Kate and team - we appreciate you!
Becca Saenz: Love the staff & studio! Classes are always fun and new and just the right amount of challenging. Kate and Cilla have so much knowledge and passion for anatomy and it shows in their classes!
Leslie Brayton: FitLAB Pilates is wonderful! Through Covid and many injuries in my part they have treated me like an individual deserving of attention and safety. I have worked with mostly Kate for a couple of years and she is such a huge help for my aging and badly injured body. Either zooming, in pre made videos or in person, fitlab has navigated the last few difficult years with the clients physical and mental health in mind. I am so grateful and wouldn’t go anywhere else.
James Hayward: Kate is THE best. As an out of shape guy who never made time for exercise, she took a look at my fitness goals and tailored a routine that was challenging yet manageable so that I could make it just that, a routine. She never failed to follow-up, check-in, answer questions or provide support when I struggled. As a beginner, I could not have found a better person to put me on the right path.
Stephanie Marenna: Always such a clean and welcoming space with amazing, well educated instructors. The best!
Fat Babe ASMR: Kate is such an incredible instructor! The whole team is phenomenal, definitely go check them out!!!
Mary Fuller: I came to Fitlab after several years of mat Pilates in groups, and the instructors have taken things to a whole other level. Privates have kept me strong and flexible through injuries and crazy times at work, and I can’t say enough about the knowledge base, creativity, and friendliness of the instructors. This place is the best!
Liane Wong: I have only positive things to say about this studio. My whole life, I have never been able to keep to a regular workout routine - until now! I come to fitlabs 3x / week and the prices are extremely reasonable. I finally look forward to exercising. You can't go wrong with any of the instructors. Cilla, Erin, and Kate are all knowledgeable, inclusive of all skill levels, and really seem to love what they do. Diane, the owner, is responsive and communicative. The studio itself has managed covid restrictions extremely well. The studio and equipment are clean and well-maintained. And the clientele is respectful of mask usage, hand washing, and equipment wipe down.I whole-heartedly recommend you give Fitlabs a try. You won't regret it!
Flor Orosz Hunziker: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,QualityThe instructors are all amazing and so is Diane, the owner. Fitlab is a welcoming and healthy environment to get stronger, healthier and happier!
Janice Kitchen: If you are at all interested in pilates, I could not recommend Fitlab Pilates more highly! I attended two classes a week at Fitlab for over a year before moving to Western Massachusetts. I am not exaggerating when I say that Fitlab classes are one of the things I miss the most about Cambridge/Boston. I could probably write a dissertation on why this studio is exceptional, but I'll do my best to stick to the highlights.First, the atmosphere of the classes is pretty unique. They focus on building strength rather than burning calories. I don't think I heard any reference to losing weight even once during my time in the studio. This is reflected in the clientele; people of all genders, sizes, and ages attend the classes regularly. They also do not play music. While many people like listening to music as they work out, I found that the lack of music allowed the instructors to focus on helping me do the exercises correctly and on getting to know me as a person. Again, not for everyone, but was definitely refreshing and helpful for me.Second, the instructors at Fitlab are the most knowledgable and attentive fitness instructors I've ever experienced. (And I've gone to a lot of different classes! Spin, yoga, 305 Fitness, Zumba, personal training -- if it was "in" at some point in the last 5 years, I've probably tried it.) Cilla and Amanda have different styles, but they are both excellent at giving very specific and thorough instructions for every aspect of the class. Reformer pilates can be intricate, so their detailed instruction is critical to the success of their classes. They are also both excellent at finding multiple ways to explain the same move. Amanda taught most of the classes I attended and she did a great job of repeating exercises that built strength and mixing up the routines so that I never got bored. (Honestly, twice a week for over a year and I never got bored!) Diane (the owner) had just hired a third instructor when I left, who unfortunately I didn't get the chance to work with, but I heard good things from other attendees.Third, the owner provides exceptional customer service. Diane responds to emails as seeming lightening speed. She also has an incredible understanding/memory of each of her member's class preferences. More than once she emailed me to let me know that a spot in class opened up when I had mentioned to her over a month before that I was interested in switching! The MindBody app can be clunky and a bit annoying if you are a member, but Diane is so attentive and helpful that for me it was a non-issue. She also keeps the prices at an exceptionally reasonable rate. My monthly membership at Fitlab meant the individual classes were cheaper than any other fitness class I had tried out in the area. Given the specialized attention that comes with a 6 person maximum class, the value for that expense was by far the best.My final thought is that if you have never tried pilates before, don't give up! Reformer pilates can be very frustrating at the beginning. The reformer is a crazy contraption that can be used in what seems like 50 million different ways. For the first three months, we did something totally new with it at every class I attended. There's a lot of set up involved for each of those new things and it felt like I had to learn a new language just to work out. It's also hard. But, the staff at Fitlab Pilates were so encouraging and helpful that I know I could go into any pilates class now and hold my own. I built more strength and felt more confident in my body than I ever had before. It was completely worth getting through the learning curve.
Caroline Boeckman: Very well trained instructors and very professional! Super friendly, clean and an excellent experience overall!
Chris Dee: A wonderful, cute pilates studio. Instructors are super nice and knowledgable. Check it out!

Upward Spiral Studio: what do users think?
Ava Untermyer: Upward spiral studio is FANTASTIC! As a professional dancer and dance teacher, Upward Spiral has provided me with cross training to strengthen and protect my body throughout a rigorous career. I’ve experienced significant improvement in terms of strength, flexibility and coordination since coming to this studio. Martha, the studio owner, is absolutely wonderful - she takes time to understand her clients’ bodies and physical needs and provides encouraging and effective feedback. I highly recommend this studio to those interested in improving their physical health and well being!
Stephanie Janes: I love this studio. I’ve been coming here for two years to help build core and hip strength before and after hip surgery. Really a lovely space and effective classes.
Bill Clemens: Great studio spacious /clean knowledgeable staff.
Ilia Baum: I absolutely love this studio. Newcomers should note that the entrance is on Bishop Allen road. Turn onto Bishop Allen, walking in the same direction as traffic and it's about half way down the block down a ramp to your left.
Jonathan B: After injuries, Gyrotonics with Martha was more effective for my spine health than all the physical therapists, chiropractors and trainers combined. Can not recommend strongly enough.

VIM Pilates: what do users think?
LL: Vim, what does that word to you? Vim……VIM… those three letters will forever haunt the deepest depths of my dreams, as the sheer pleasure, the unadulterated joy I experienced at this location, now permeates my every waking second.VIM… when I was a child, a wise old shaman from my village told me that one day, I would experience an enlightenment like no other, one that my ancestors would have never dreamed of. I now believe that time has come.VIMVIMVIMVINVIM

BREATHE Cambridge: what do users think?
Jeremy Meyers: Breathe has been the perfect place for a yoga novice like myself to learn the poses and listen to my body in order to start the journey toward a better sense of fitness and self! Every Saturday double finishing with strength with Erin definitely knocks me out but it’s the best kind of exhaustion. 11/10 recommend.
Teresa Pontes: Very welcoming and everyone is so friendly. Highly recommend ❤️.
Bonnie Broome: A home away from home! Not only is the community and space amazing, but so are the instructors and classes. From Hot 26 to IHP, I always leave the studio feeling considerably better. Highly recommend to any one and everyone.
Mariana Moreno: First time I’ve ever understood when people say you get into yoga when you get into a studio. The most welcoming instructors. Everyone is friendly while giving you space and very professional. I started with just doing their Hot 26 and have since really enjoyed their other classes from Pilates (challenging yet fun) to their Flows.I really like Sharon and Barbara’s classes but seriously everyone is so nice!Their monthly challenges are really fun and get you hooked on wanting to practice more which is just a win-win situation.
Justin Buie: Breathe Cambridge offers not only a wide variety of Yoga and Pilates modalities, but also an incredibly supportive community. The instructors are extremely knowledgeable, experienced, and offer encouragement and modifications often to make your practice the best for you. Anyone who is interested in trying out Yoga for the first time or looking for a new studio should put Breathe Cambridge at the top of their list.
Rachael Drew: Can't say enough good things about this studio! Excellent, knowledgable, and diverse instructors and a cozy, warm, welcoming space. I especially love the Strength, Buti, and Power classes. A little something for everyone in the hot room!
Rachel Gladstone: BREATHE is an absolutely amazing studio. There are so many classes from Hot26 to Power Vinyasa to Hot Pilates, and every class is taught by a thoughtful, knowledgeable, and talented teacher! I've never taken a class I didn't love, and every class challenges you in a unique and meaningful way. Best part of all: the community at BREATHE is top-notch! You are always greeted by a friendly smile and feel supported and welcome in your practice, no matter if you have been practicing for 1 day or a decade. So grateful to be a part of this studio!
Emerald Walsh: Breathe Cambridge is home away from home for many Bostonians including myself! I love coming here and trying out every class and meeting each instructor. The heat is addicting! Every instructor at Breathe is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about their class, and the energy is welcoming and fun! I recommend Breathe Cambridge to anyone wanting to try hot yoga or hot workout classes!
Anouk Donaldson: not beginner friendly, no breaks to breathe or relax. not friendly for anyone with sensitive joints, etc.
P S: Amazing hot sudio. Place is really 🔥. I just did a hot pilates rave with Shelley and Sharon. Super fun vibe the energy was electric! I've taken some hot yoga classes too they have always been great 👍.
Mesha Gould: Very warm and tranquil setting.
Sharon Kelleher Hogue: Positive:Communication,ProfessionalismThe best place and people!
Steven Jr: Honestly, it’s almost a shame that I’ve found Breathe when I have.Breathe is, imo the gold standard for hot yoga. What does this mean for the rest of my yoga life if I leave Boston? Disappointment. The instructors are all exceptionally kind and approachable at the desk before/after class. The classes are unique and exciting. It truly feels like- at least once a week I’m doing something I’ve never before, or some playful variation from the norm. Variations are offered for beginner thru advanced in the classes I attend. It’s hot, like really hot. Also, Shelly somehow seems to know everyone by name….Since going to Breathe initially I’ve visited several other studios in Boston, and in other cities while traveling. Though I have found other good classes, it’s just not the same…Thanks to all the Breathe instructors who show up with such positive energy and excellent teaching skills. You, coupled with the excellent community that attend the studio make this place a true gem in Cambridge/Boston.
Cassie Knight: As the weather gets cold, the hot room at Breathe becomes an oasis. So grateful for this studio, the kind instructors, and variety of class options offered.
Dylan Gamache: Breathe is a welcoming, clean, and overall great place to do yoga
Joseph Mulhern: Had a great class the weekend of 9/9 for a free trial. Will definitely be coming back!
Maria B: I usually never write reviews but I cannot recommend this place enough! I found them through Groupon and decided to try it out. It was my first time ever doing hot yoga and hot pilates and I was really nervous. The amazing instructors were so kind and supportive. They constantly reminded me and the class to listen to our bodies and always offered modified versions of what they were teaching. Then to top it off, when I finished my first class the instructor Aura, came up to me and asked how it went! I thought maybe because it was my first time they asked but then after my second class, my instructor Alanna asked how the class went for me. Talk about caring about your students. So excited to join as an official member when my Groupon classes run out! ❤️
Sienna Li: Unwelcoming and snooty. I did a hot yoga class with my partner, who had recently had surgery. In the middle I *whispered* to my partner, who was caught in the sun, to see if they were doing ok because I was concerned about heat exhaustion. I got multiple shushes from the people around me and then the instructor (who knew it was our first time doing hot yoga) called us out in the middle of class for talking. She didn't even ask if we were ok. Ended up leaving early. Not worth it.
Ruby Nicole: First visit with Breathe! I will definitely be going again :)) Morgan was awesome! Thank you
Grace Sun: Amazing!! Took a Sunday music driven HIIT class with Gabi and loved every second of it. The best reggaton music and high energy all the way. This class is more stength and core driven (less yoga) and thats what i came here for. Just mentioning it for this particular class so people know there’s a variety of mat exercises they offer here
Rachel Jurek: I am in love with everything this studio has to offer! Inferno hot pilates, yoga, hot HIIT - it is all fantastic and the studio brings such a sense of community.

Helena Chang/Educated Body: what do users think?
Deanna Daly: I've always hated exercising, so it's like a miracle that I genuinely enjoy and look forward to working with Helena. This is also the first time I've been able to keep up with exercise on my own, outside of classes. I think there's several specific factors that make Helena's classes work for me, when nothing else has.1. I feel physically better after my prescribed exercises. Historically, when I've tried exercising (either with a class or on my own), I do it because I know I should and that it's good for my long-term health. Unfortunately, even knowing this rationally, I always end up fizzling out and dropping it after a while. Working with Helena though, I always find that I feel physically more relaxed, balanced, and comfortable immediately afterwards. This is the first time that when I work out, although it's still tiring, I have an obviously positive result right away. Having that has made a huge, huge difference for me.2. I develop a sense of how my body works, and why each exercise is effective. Usually when I've worked out, the reason for doing those particular movements is super vague and boils down to "it's hard, so it must be good for you". Besides being demotivating, I also find it difficult to remember. Helena is very methodological about explaining what muscles are involved in each exercise and why we want to stretch or strengthen them. Having that context makes me more interested in the exercise, more motivated to do it, and makes it easier to come up with my own exercise plans. And now if some part of my body is aching, very often I have a sense of how to address it!! I love that instead of body pain being a total mystery, I can think "maybe such and such muscle is tight" and take immediate action, usually with great results. I'm also surprised at how much less disconnected I feel from my body as a result.3. I'm more focused on each exercise. I usually have a problem where when I start trying to exercise, something distracts me in the middle of it and I end up forgetting I was ever exercising in the first place. This is definitely because I generally find physical activity quite boring. I like that with pilates, the work is both physical and mental. I have to focus on if I'm moving the correct muscles, if my posture is correct, etc. Personally, this also makes it easier to endure the physical effort involved.Overall I feel very confident that I'm improving my physical health in a sustainable way. Also, Helena is just a wonderful person to work with. :-) Starting classes with her has easily been the best change I've made in my lifestyle in the past year.
Mike Park: Is there a word for super-awesome-and-wise-and-kind-and-amazing-and-life-changing? That's the word I would use for Helena. I came in with a myriad of shoulder, back, hip, neck, and knee issues. I couldn't sleep well at night due to neck pain, I also had trouble keeping up with my kids. Getting older with decades of bad posture and bad habits. Could barely get a jacket on without wincing, tough to walk up the stairs due to tendonopathy in one knee, and difficulty getting stronger even though I was weightlifting regularly. It's been about 2 years, I'd say that it took about 1 year just to reverse some of the overly tight muscles in order to activate a lot of core muscles. But after 1 year, it's been a clear progression of getting stronger, more flexible, and even faster than I was 10 years ago. I now have no problem carrying all my kids at once, or outrunning them all day long. Most importantly, I feel that Helena's process-oriented, present-conscious style really helped me to appreciate the little things in life, even if it's just some small muscle in my back that is now talking to me after being muted for most of my life. I lift with my glutes/hamstrings/abs now, instead of lifting with my quads and lower back. I play ball sports using my upper back instead of my shoulder and arm. I loosen my neck by focusing on my deltoids and pecs. I reduce knee pain by just talking more to my glutes and inner hamstrings. I hit the ball harder by talking to my rib cage. It's all super counter-intuitive to someone like me, but the improvement to quality of life has been unreal.
Sally Neely: Helena is incredibly knowledgeable, creative and supportive. Therefore, each session is tailored to you just as you are at that moment, to help you become the person you can be. I look forward to every session, knowing I will feel stronger and more functionally able. Helena challenges me and, with skill and encouragement, she helps me get stronger, more flexible, more agile, more self-confident in movement. This is very important to me, as a 71-year old, with 2 total knee replacements and a spinal chord injury, who has lots of bad habits from years of obesity and underuse in my relatively recent past.I live in Los Angeles, but am regularly in Cambridge where my new grandson and his parents live. I was blest to work with Helena for 6 weeks straight around when he was born. Now I can’t wait to work with Helena whenever I am in town, she is amazing — and has made a huge difference in my life.

Katie Lowe Pilates: what do users think?
Stephanie Richardson: I have worked with Katie on and off for years, but now for the first time in her own practice. Katie is excellent. She is personable, knowledgeable, and kind. I wholeheartedly trust her with this aging physical plant, and have felt like I can ask her to back off when needed, for example when I was recovering from Covid and needed just some stretching and mobility. Highly recommended.
Megan Talkington: Katie teaches like no one else; she is just utterly unique. I've now taken many virtual group classes with her, and over time I’ve developed a mental picture of how it works: When class starts, Katie puts her hands on some imaginary steering wheel and drives us all right through, never taking her eyes off the road till the moment class ends. How can she describe an exercise so precisely (even when she’s not actually doing it herself), and cue us through every tiny component so adeptly (even those of us who aren’t nearly so strong or skilled)? How does she KNOW? Even when we’re all on Zoom? I have no idea. I just know that taking a class with her is routinely a joyful, invigorating, empowering experience.
pete lackey: I had absolutely zero knowledge or experience with Pilates, until I met Katie by accident one year ago. My wife had been referred to Katie by a mutual and dear friend of ours. She invited me to join her for duet classes, and after a few sessions, I was hooked. Katie is professional, enthusiastic, and brings joy to every minute of every session. She asks questions, understands each person’s unique needs, and encourages at just the right moments. I’ve learned more about my physical body, and human physiology in general, during these last several months than I had in the previous 10 years. I fell lighter, stronger, and clear-headed after every session . . . it’s remarkable. Katie’s motto is “live better in your body” and she means it. She is warm, fully present, and forever supportive. I’m so grateful for the many hours we’ve trained together, and I look forward to many more.
Begum Alaybeyoglu: I've survived the pandemic thanks to Katie's virtual group classes! Katie is an amazing instructor and helped me develop body awareness. For the first time in my life I truly enjoy pilates and don't get intimidated by it!
Carolyn Batt: “Tell me about your body.”I am a former Certified Fitness Instructor who has taken countless hours of exercise classes. But when Katie introduced herself before our first session and said, “Tell me about your body,” I knew I was in for something different. In the best possible way. No other teacher had focused on my internal experience of my body—what helps, what hurts, what needs work. That “simple” request has led me to trust Katie’s sensitive and personalized guidance toward a stronger, healthier, and happier body. That guidance has helped me through two hip replacements along with everyday stresses. After each Pilates session with Katie I feel an improvement in strength, mood, and overall sense of well-being. I’m continually impressed by her knowledge, skill, empathy, and dedication.

Barre & Soul, Harvard Square Yoga and Barre Studio: what do users think?
Lara Foldvari: Consistently amazing classes
Kate: Warning to new comers: if you arrive even even one minute late, you will not be let in the class. I looked on the website beforehand to check what to bring, etc. and couldn't find that information, and I didn't see anything about a showing up late policy. It's their right to do this, and my fault because I was one minute late, but they should be upfront about this so people can plan to be extra early. (I took the T, which resulted in an unexpected delay.)
meredith hutto: I absolutely love Barre and Soul. The Harvard Square gym is so welcoming. The instructors are so kind and encouraging. I love that barre is always challenging!
L Goodwin: Barre instructors undergo extensive training, and it shows in the quality of classes. They've done a terrific job of offering their classes online, as well.
Monet Uva: Friendly and welcoming space. Gorgeous studio. Great teachers!
Andrew Audio Spotlight Leads: This is a great place for yoga classes for beginners & just a great yoga studio
Tara Peterson: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality
Kristi Moy: The staff and instructors are so welcoming and immediately you feel like a part of the community. No matter what level you are at, they have modifications and answer any and all of your questions.
Michelle Mattera: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,QualityPositive and knowledgeable instructors, so many options online for class schedules. Quick responses when needed. Never did Barre before and loving it!
Megan Gianniny: Staff are friendly and encouraging. There's a mix of classes to choose from but not so many that it's overwhelming. Decent membership prices (not cheap but not unreasonable). They did an amazing job pivoting to online when the pandemic hit and maintaining that as an option even as limited in-person classes returned. Barre & Soul is an awesome community and I'm so glad that I found it.
Susan Sheng: I have only taken the online Live stream classes so I haven't visited the physical location yet, but I love the online offerings and I hope they continue even after in-person classes are more of a thing again (currently there are a limited number of in-studio classes being offered) There are classes through out the day and early evening, making it easy to find a class that works for my schedule. The workouts are tough but do-able, and varied to keep you engaged. I like the livestream aspect, as the instructors can and do give personal feedback and encouragement.
Doug and Pat Leonhardt: I love that Barre & Soul has allowed me to connect with my body in a way I never had before, making me realize the beauty of becoming strong. The combination of the physical challenge and the psychological calming has become incredibly important to me, perhaps even more so due to the effects of the pandemic (I am still a virtual only customer). Thank you for all you do; you provide a quality program!
Star Dyal: The classes and teachers are awesome. I really enjoy the virtual option I can join all the way from Florida.
Danielle Kemble: I was a member at Barre and Soul for about a year and felt the classes were a great workout, the studio was clean but I had a very difficult time trying to discontinue my membership upon moving to a different city. I kept getting charged for months I wasn’t attending despite my request for cancellation. Somehow I’m still being charged after all of the conversations I had with the staff saying that they cancelled it... their policies are extremely inflexible and vague while being difficult to reach them.A few of the instructors have a bad habit of complaining about members, being condescending and speaking poorly about other instructors right as class gets out once they get back to the front desk. Hearing that doesn’t create safe, truthworthy or comfortable environment work out in.
Lindsey Gaudet: The teachers are really welcoming and knowledgable, class is hard but in a good way [and goes fast], and the space is bright and clean!
Nina Collins: The studio is bright, clean, and beautiful. I like being in the space, and the location is super convenient to my office. But the real draw is Jenn Duran. She combines carefully designed and challenging yoga sequences with an incredible amount of anatomical knowledge and yoga experience. I always try harder things in her classes because I know I'm in good hands. I've learned so much and gained strength and flexibility.
Kathryn Maass: I LOVE Barre & Soul. I've tried various other barre classes and the technique used at Barre & Soul is my favorite. The instructors are personable, have their own style, and make everyone feel comfortable. The environment is encouraging and friendly.
Ayelet Reiter: I love how encouraging and welcoming the instructors are! I'm nowhere near as in shape as some of the people in the room but thanks to the instructors I've always felt like I belong and that I can push myself to achieve more. I really didn't expect to keep coming back and buy a monthly pass, especially since I don't live very close to the studio, but the instructors were so amazing, they've inspired me to keep booking class after class!
Klaudia Migdal: I went there with my boyfriend for a barre yoga class and we loved it! Great place
Christina Arakelian: I really enjoyed my visit to Barre & Soul. I was warmly greeted and shown around by the instructor. The space is clean with lots of window lighting. I did the barre class (they have yoga and cardio too) and it was very similar to The Bar Method but with a local feel. Ellie was really clear at instructing and helping as needed. It was a smaller class so the energy wasn’t quite there but I’ll definitely be back. They don’t have showers but they do have two bathrooms for changing and offer some basics.
Giulia Fulci: Wonderful space, friendly teachers and consistent high quality training.
