Conor Dennehy: If I could give zero stars, I would. Tim, who is also the service manager, and his apprentice came to my restaurant on an emergency service call. They did diagnostics and told me the issue was the thermopile and definitely not the gas valve. They called one company to try to get the part and said they couldn’t get it until next week. In a restaurant, you are required to have hot water to operate so this essentially would mean closing the business through the weekend. When asked if there was a universal part that could be used to patch up the issue, Tim hastily told me that if there was anything that could be done, he’d do it. He “called the only company that carries parts”, for my water heater and they’d said the product wasn’t available. He basically told me that even if there was a work around, what was he going to do, drive around to several places in hopes that he could find something that would work? They then left and gave me a tough luck kinda speech saying they’d be back next week. Cut to one hour later when another company came and installed a universal thermopile that was easily picked up. Upon installing this part, it was learned that the gas valve was an issue as well. They then stayed and fixed the issue for me after Pann said it couldn’t be done and Tim couldn’t be bothered to try to actually help us. This was a Friday afternoon and my sense was they just wanted to be done for the day and didn’t want to out in the work. Avoid this company at all costs.Service:Water heater repair
Michael Yaffe: Another excellent experience with Pann Home Services. Our furnace was on it’s last legs…still working but inefficient and quite old. Frank and Tim from Pann suggested we replace it now rather than wait for a failure in the middle of winter in Boston. Jeanette Douglas: We have a shower that hadn't been used in years. It was leaking and no hot water was available. Matt arrived on time, assessed the problems and gave us an estimate. He explained each issue, and each item on the estimate. He was very professional, friendly and didn't pressure us into extras or anything more than we expected. Matt was efficient and wore his mask the entire time too, which was appreciated. We are happy with the work that was performed; our shower is up and running fine and we believe the cost was fair. The company was always very responsive to my needs for repairs of the old system. The trust Pann built with me was the reason I chose them to install my new system. The technicians, Tim B, Kyle and Grant were very professional and took care to respect my property. They were prompt in arriving each day and were careful to clean up the work area at the end of each day. Tim was very thorough in explaining the work to be done. Alexander Young: This company parks their van on the sidewalk. I don’t understand why they think this is acceptable. I will take my business elsewhere.Edit: People are having to walk in the street to get around the illegally parked van. I almost got hit by a car. This is really terrible behavior from William J Malcolm and Sons. If you don’t know how to park, you should not drive.
Patrick Lavoie: I can't comment on their plumbing ability, but I can tell you they aren't the kind of guys you want in your house. Their truck honked at me while I was biking, then passed inches away while cursing me out. Yes, driving brings out the worst in many people but these guys were exceptional....and not in a good way. Vote for civility by taking your money and your business elsewhere.

C. Yang: I'm a die hard Barrell fan and a customer for over fifteen years. Why? For example, Mike just came by yesterday to tune up our HVAC system. He's clearly an expert, calmly deals with unexpected adversity, and great to work with.Also, when things go awry with poor workmanship Barrell has always expeditiously made us whole. The HQ team is delightful and I always recommend Barrell to friends, family, neighbors and anyone who asks who to go to for plumbing and HVAC work.
Kasi Cruz: I have been using Barrell for years. It's a great plumbing company and I highly recommend them. They come when you need them, their prices are good and they have an excellent workforce. We recently had a major issue that had me in tears. Long story short, we had to replace our main sewer line. Joe Barrell personally came out to examine the issue. A work plan was put in place and carried out in a timely and efficient manner, including coordination with the excavation company they work with. Communication was excellent throughout and they made an extremely stressful and disruptive process much more bearable. They did the work in stages which allowed my tenants and I to continue using water, flushing, etc. Rusty, the man who replaced my pipe, was wonderful as was Joe. I will always be a customer. We were impressed with how they were able to start and finish the work earlier than they originally quoted.Their workers, plus an outside electrical crew they hired to perform the electrical work, were professional and efficient, especially how they cleaned up after themselves upon leaving.The units have performed above our expectations, especially after experiencing several weeks of hot, humid weather. We've had them do simple pipe repairs, hot water heater replacement, and fairly complex gas pipe relocation that involved fussy work due to a joist being in the wrong place.All work done well with no return visits required.

Cheryl Morrissey: I have had last minute 'emergency' plumbing issues at my house. The response time was excellent, and the workers were courteous and efficient.
Walter Fontana: A simple annual maintenance call on a fully functional system, half of which was installed by them the year before: $172 for parts (includes 60 for refrigerant) plus 2.5 hours (!) at $120/hour for a total of $472. Overpriced?
Joan Papendo: Have not written any reviews before but am startled by the negative portrayal of longterm Plumbing and Heating Cambridge firm. I have used other plumbers for emergency and installation jobs and liked them. When it came time to replace our fifty year old furnace we started in researching in spring and chose Barrell. Other plumbers have uniformaly admired their choice of furnace and the workmanship. I would say the reception and scheduling is old school and if you kitchen floor has less than two inches of water ,even charming. No phone tree is a plus to me. That said I think their focus is on contract work. They more than lived up to the job and given our funky house it posed challenges. Crew was professional and they pointed out rebates and helped complete them. They were stellar for the job we needed them for.Only reason I did not give them five is I don't like to gush and they are as New Englanders, not likely to want me to. Note:. They are closed on weekends, not a problem for me but it is a tip off for their focus.
Christian Symonds: After pricing around for a water heater replacement, I decided to go with Barrell because the price they quoted was pretty much the same as what other companies were charging and they were already familiar with our building. But when I subsequently spoke with the 'dispatcher' to schedule the install, she said the price would actually be $500 higher than the original quote. Obviously I did not go through with this company doing the work. Not sure why they would quote me one price (which I confirmed on a 2nd call) just to have them raise the price by $500 when I go to schedule.
William Burke: After a few bad experiences, I stopped using them. They take forever and are always trying to charge for unnecessary work. I'm ok with being ripped off a little bit - all workmen do that - but these guys take it to another level.
Dan Thsui: Barrell Plumbing is the worst service provider I have ever encountered. The receptionist is so rude and unprofessional. She slammed the phone while I was trying to explain to her that I never received any confirmation of appointment, so they should not charge me as there was never an agreement of order. I got not only excellent services from another provider, but also email confirmation and introduction of the team that would be working on my order. I received further email follow up from that provider to ensure I was satisfied with their service. It's like day and night compared to what I got from Barrell: rude receptionists (a woman and a man), no confirmation of appointment, $165 bill for dispatch fee and labor charge while they did not perform any services. I don't know how they can live with themselves charging people for nothing.
Min Gyo KOO (구민교): Not reliable. The plumber didn't show up at all on the scheduled date. I called the office to see if s/he was coming late. The person who answered the phone almost yelled at me that I didn't receive her calls to my home phone. It was unfortunate that I missed her calls, but I was never told that she would make a confirmation call before their crew shows up. I was expecting the plumber, not her call. Don't want to deal with these people again.

Johnny Ray Maloney: I have a sink in my basement that the washer empties into. It has gotten clogged 3 times before that I had to get it cleared. It usually cost about $500 and made a mess. The Drain Guy was in and out in minutes, cleaned up after himself, and only charged $175.00. Can't be beat.

Jeremy Stricsek: Extremely satisfied with service. I called about a clogged tub drain in the afternoon and Matt was here the following morning. Friendly and professional, he first took a look at the pipes and tub trap from the basement to see if there was any visible problem. We have old pipes in our house so I appreciated him being up front that the process to clear them out may cause them to leak if they are already in rough shape (our pipes were already dripping from time to time). With that he quickly got to work and successfully cleared out the drain, and then immediately checked the basement to see if there was any leaking down there following this. Dolphia Arnstein: They sent a plumber to attach a pressure tank, fix the hot water issues we were having. They were fast to ship, though.He did the pressure tank right. But, when it came to the hot water, he broke the valve in the wall. As a result, we did not have water in our shower and no hot water in the entire condo.When I called them, they came back and asked for money to fix the valve. At that point, I lost my patience with these folx. I decided to go with building plumber and ended up paying 700 dollars for the mistake their plumber caused me.They kept blaming the valve we had, but their plumber used a hammer to turn it and broke it.This was an expensive lesson for me.
