Cambridge YMCA: what do users think?
Mark Cerutti: Great weights setup for powerlifting, Olympic lifting, or bodybuilding. They took old racquetball courts and just filled them with power racks, barbells, and dumbbells. Cardio equipment is pretty busy at peak hours. Overall the best value gym in the area by far.
Bruce Allen Sullivan: This place is low key Staff is always friendly always as they should be ..Other places there rude and don't like there job.. This place they want to work there ..Maybe it's something in the air ...5 star all the way
Rambler Elk: I recently visited Cambridge YMCA and overall had a decent experience. The staff were friendly and welcoming, always ready to assist with any questions or concerns. The equipment was well-maintained and varied, providing ample options for a full-body workout. However, I was disappointed with the cleanliness of the locker rooms, specifically the sauna and steam room. The tiles and surfaces were not properly cleaned and had an unpleasant odor, and the sauna was not operating properly during my visit. This negatively impacted my overall experience. In conclusion, while the staff and equipment at Cambridge YMCA were great, the lack of attention to cleanliness in the locker rooms was a drawback. I hope that improvements will be made in this area to ensure a more enjoyable and hygienic experience for members in the future.
Maryella Vitoria Lopes Costa: Front desk people are super nice and workouts are always fun.
Kim Hetrick: Love this gym! Classes are great and offered at a variety of times. Staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. There should be equipment for any workout you want to do. My only complaint is that the hours are less than ideal compared to before the pandemic. I believe this gym used to open quite early and close late - now on the weekends it's only open 8-4 and it closes at 9pm on weekdays, for the same cost of membership as before.
Zechariah Harris: Lots of character and plenty of good equipment. They recently changed their schedule and now close at 9pm M-Th which is very nice! Solid place to work out with a friendly staff.
Ishan Raval: Great experience snd highly recommended! The front desk staff helped me get setup in just a few minutes after giving a tour of facility. Gym machines are new and very well maintained. It can get a but crowded right after work hours but the size can surely handle it. The personal training staff is awesome as well. I got 4 classes from Chorobi Sagna and it was totally worth it. He helped me get better at my workout and also made a plan for me for next few months!
Charles Wyzanski: After the Harvard gyms effectively closed during the pandemic, I finally checked out the Cambridge Y. I am a veteran of too many sports clubs to name in Boston and Cambridge over the years. For someone now well beyond his prime (and likely others) this is the best! The exercise equipment is ample if not elaborate, the indoor rubber track undersized but easy on the knees, the pool while not the full 25 yards not too cold and most often with at least a lane available to share, the locker room and showers clean and ample, the staff invariably helpful and friendly, and the monthly cost, including a locker and two clean towels, very reasonable and the best around. I’m sure there are many classes and the like available, but I’m more than satisfied as is. I think so well of the place that I even make a modest charitable donation!
Emanuel Santa: They don't allow outside YMCA members
Shivam Patwari: One of the best gyms in Cambridge, with ample space for a workout, a big cardio area, heated swimming pool. Going here for the last five months, the trainers are also good.A couple of feedbacks, the gym closes at 8:00 pm; I feel it’s early compared to other gyms around; also, on weekends, it gets closed at 3:00 pm, so I had to take two gym memberships if I have to hit the gym at late hours.Be prepared for hunting metered parking spaces. Overall a positive experience apart from the two stated sissies.
Roman Madaus: They close way too early and blast Closing Time when it's time to leave every single day, which is absolutely obnoxious. You will come to loathe the song if you go in the evenings. Also overpriced and the pool is too full. The building design is strange and terrible. No noise reduction wall panels, so some of the lifting rooms are piercingly loud. Staff is great, and there is a sauna and steam room, so cheers for that.
Tyler Motes: I wanted to join here because of the pool and it’s very close to my house. I don’t feel save walking down to it now. Drugs are being sold between the Y’s location and the Post Office. I’ve been harassed and followed from that area. When I tried the gym, I also didn’t feel comfortable in the changing room and the pool schedule I learned, made it almost impossible to be able to use the pool. They also house homeless people and they use the showers. Which is what made me extremely uncomfortable in the locker rooms. I’m transgender, so safety in locker rooms is my number one concern when joining a gym. I wanted to use the pool, but it’s 100% not worth putting my safety at risk. Do yourself a favor and go to another gym!
Nicholas Schiavo: It's very unfortunate that The Cambridge YMCA has taken it upon themselves to disallow YMCA members from other gyms the ability to use their facility. They have been telling me for months that they have just not decided when that would be, leading me to useless weekly phone calls to check the status of their decision. It was never like this before covid and they have taken their precaution overboard. I did not wish to use my leverage as an employee for another branch but even when I told them this they said that I would still not be allowed, then saying that they could make an exception once or twice. I live on the area but am employed so thus have a membership with another Y. I do not know if what they are doing is even okay with the gyms policy as a whole.
Beth Redmond Walsh: If you want a gym membership for swimming take a close look at the pool schedule for times they have available for your age group, and the days and times of day its open. The pool is old and small and most of the time the schedule is jammed up. Absolutely NOT worth the $60 a month.
Caasi: This Cambridge YMCA does not accept other non-Cambridge YMCA memberships
Dillon O’Brien: very friendly staff, Nancy was super helpful getting me registered!
Tim Graham: Not apart of the YMCA organization and they do not honor a standard membership, need a special membership strictly through them
John M: Positive:QualityI like this place the employees are friendly and it has everything I need to stay in shape. Suggest for everyone of all ages
Michelle Deutsch: Positive:QualityNever thought to write a google review.. I teach a lot here, do PT, health coaching, etc. - still happy after many years of working here. Nice to see member reviews listed here also!
Paddy Cavanaugh: I absolutely love this place. The staff is wonderful, facilities well kept, and it's very affordable. Most of all the Cambridge Y has character. It's scrappy and democratic with a strong sense of communal identity you don't find at bland, fast casual 'luxury' fitness chains.
Ayo: Really lovely low key gym. Not crowded, I’ve gone various points in the day though never after work hours. Super super clean. Friendly staff constantly cleaning everywhere. Wipes everywhere and hand sanitizer. Lots of space and variety in equipment. Definitely can meet most workout needs. City Parking lot near by and street parking. Membership is affordable. Masks must be worn at all times except swimming and seems everyone does this. I feel safe here. Thank you Y.

Cambridge Athletic Club: what do users think?
Joseph Brassard: Been working out here since about 2019. Generally pretty happy with it. Helpful and available staff when you have questions or want your billing receipt. If you do want to cancel, there's a 2 month transition window but that's it: nothing like the big chain gyms.Five power racks are great, but during rush hour expect them all to be taken up. Like all gyms, there's an issue of people just sitting staring at their phone for 10 minutes between sets, doing nothing. Or super-setting half the machines in the gym. They have put up signs asking people to be respectful but I haven't seen any behavior changes in this.Going off hours is much less busy, but then you have to deal with the cleaning staff mopping right around your feet. Trying to squat when you have slippery floors isn't very safe at all, I've had to start getting a towel from the front desk to dry the floor to I don't kill myself. Cleaning staff should stay away from anyone using a squat rack, including the area near the sides where we change weights, otherwise it's just a slippery mess. The main negative and my reason for only four stars is access. Before COVID, we could walk right in the First Street or the Linksey Way entrance. During covid the building locked the Linksey way entrance, which is annoying as you have to walk around the block to the front. However, they eventually locked the front entrance, too. Gym members don't have access badges to the outside door, so we had to ring the visitor doorbell. That was annoying enough, but now they not only make you ring the door bell but have to speak to the security guard. The intercom is completely unintelligible and you have to shout 'I'm going to the gym!' to be let inside. Not a great experience during winter, or in the rain, since you are not covered. They really need to make getting inside easier. The gym is a tenant of the building, we should be granted come/go access through all doors without having to wait for security to buzz us in.
Lindsay Teliska: I recently joined this gym and I love it! They have a variety of machines/equipment and it never seems too crowded. A lot of workout classes and access to squash courts, a basketball court, saunas etc come with membership. I also like the rewards program!
Mark Ceglio: Great gym with some excellent amenities! Always clean and not too crowded. Friendly staff. They offer a lot of deals and reward opportunities
Allison Looney: The facility at 215 First St. is roomy with lots of equipment, including a women-only studio, so I rarely have to wait to use any machine. Recently they've added new classes, so there are varied options for cardio, flexibility and balance exercises. The staff and other members are friendly and encouraging. With the help of my personal trainer weekly training sessions since December 2021 I've lost 35 pounds. I'm feeling good and I look forward to continuing to improve my health with the support of the CAC community.
Dan O'Connor: Been going here for a couple months. The gym is great - plenty of equipment, not too crowded, friendly staff. Can’t ask for more in a gym
yang hu: Small but compact gym with 5 power racks and two weightlifting platforms, which are very nice. I go to CAC during rush hours but always can find a rack. They allow me to use chalk! It is a big bonus to me, maybe it is the main reason I still go here even living far away from here.
Abigail Buckley: great facility for a reasonable price! the women's only fitness studio was a big sell for me
tommydoherty42: One of the best gyms in the area
Tushar Bahl: I came to this gym from June 2021 - July 2022. Only reason I left was due to moving to a new state. I wish I could still come to this place! It is incredibly well-kept and offers a lot to do. I came for weightlifting and they offered more than enough equipment for my desired goals, though they also offered squash, basketball, crossfit, and fitness classes. During peak hours between 5pm - 6pm the gym was busy, but you could get a squat rack or a deadlift pad within 5 minutes of waiting. I always saw someone pass by cleaning the floors, which was a nice touch, and cleaning wipes were always in a convenient reach. I had a great experience here and will miss it!
Biella Coleman: I had such HIGH hopes for this gym since it is right around the corner from where I live and has a great sauna. There are lots of good things about it but the woman's steam room is full of mold and it is right next door to the sauna. I am quite sensitive to mold so I am unable to join after trying out the day pass. I would consider if they truly fixed it by removing the tiles and cleaning the mold that is likely grown behind the tiles. I've never seen such a bad mold problem in a stream room before: it was smelly and visible. I am glad that fixing the steam room is in the fix list but it smelled musty and the black discoloration is often normal in the grout but it was beyond the grout and on the tile and that should wipe off. Mold is nothing to mess around with especially in basements and when there are ducts and vented air. I will certainly consider once the steam room has been fixed.
Andrew Ekladious: Amazing club, I usually go for squash and working out. The courts are great and they have enough equipment and good variety of machines. Recommend especially if you want a good gym to go to after work.
Ava French: The instructors & the equipment are great. Carla is the best. Wifi isn’t fantastic though
Mark DiRocco: Very clean and nice gym! I can tell they really care about their clients. Nice and quiet during off hours as well.
Michael Brazile: Great gym, plenty of space and machines. Wonderful friendly staff that also take the mask mandate seriously and enforce it. The majority of people follow the rules and wear their masks, but there's a minority that try and play games. Just flag these selfish jerks and management will be on them - a few people have had their memberships suspended for repeatedly unmasking. So if you've been someone concerned about returning to a gym due to COVID, CAC Anthenaeum is about as good as it gets.
Mark Winderlich: Positive:Communication,ProfessionalismGreat composition of basketball court, squash court, cross-fit box, gym and freestyle area! Friendly reception, great trainers. Very clean and no waiting times at fitness machines! Great place!
Farzaneh Khajouei: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality* It is clean and orderly, we usually see cleaning staff taking care of the environment* They have complete set of weight lifting equipments and cardio machines* Plenty of equipment and we never had to wait for anything
Frank Garrett: I love how I am always greeted when entering and farewelled on my way out.
Kyle Wiant: Great equipment, friendly staff, well-maintained.
Aly Dunnington: Staff are friendly and the equipment is consistently cleaned. This location has a great variety of equipment available, convenient location, and large locker rooms.
Mike Gould: Best gym to workout in the Kendall Square area! Equipment is up to date and clean. Love it here!
Lindita Veli: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality

Massage Envy: what do users think?
Cesar: Management is not attentive to customers. I tried getting in contact with managers multiple times through the desk workers or over the phone and they were never available--honestly, I sensed disorganization. The ambiance in the massage rooms is good.
Kiera Penpeci: Cambridge location: Sean K was good at his work! Was friendly but not chatty- straight to the business. Deliberate work, meaning he was mindful of problem areas or knots and tended to them until I found relief. I also told him which areas I wanted to focus on and he delivered exactly what I needed and more, meaning, I asked for a focus on shoulders so he approached the shoulders but also shoulder blades, range of motion, neck, etc. it was clear he was thinking holistically about what might be causing me problems.Already booked a follow up. I think I found my new person!
Stephanie Joseph: Unfortunately this massage envy is super unorganized. A therapist left to take time off for herself which is GREAT and happens! However my much needed appointment that was scheduled far in advance was cancelled. The receptionist that called to inform me was really cool and kind. I wish i knew her name because they’re not all this kind. Some of them are really rude. I was also told that someone would call me back to schedule in for that particular day with another therapist and when i called back the next receptionist had no idea what to do or what was going on. Which is super frustrating. I’m a member and i don’t think i’ll be going back here.
Danielle Greaves: A few weeks ago arrived to the facility for a 90 massage. I was told a few minutes before my appointment that there was an emergency. I have not received a call from anyone to offer a complimentary service, or yo rebook.
Garry Sanon: This is by far my favorite location.. The therapist are very knowledgeable.. I worked with Tenzing today and she specializes in Sports/Swedish Massage. It was a good experience.Customer Service is great. Raquel did an amazing job at check in and checkout, very inviting and thorough..
Ivan Pina: 👌🏾
Cate Leonard: This location is extremely hard to schedule with. I was canceled on multiple times. I decided to cancel my membership as a result and it was extremely challenging to book for all the accrued hours I needed to use up.
Naomie Sesanet: Caressa was amazing, a big bright star 🌟 to her.
Steven Santoro: Jinglan is the best!
Jen Mergel: I called to request confirmation of this spot and never received one so did not think it happened!
Ashley Mielke: Caressa was absolutely incredible. I could feel my muscle tension melting away like butter. Best massage I’ve had in nearly 2 years. And the front desk staff was so nice!!! I loved chatting with them as I checked out and they gave me awesome recommendations for other services I’m going to try next time I stop in. Definitely the best Massage Envy in Boston and the greater Boston area.
Carlos Barrera: The session was awesome
Meredith Kelley: I had an amazing massage with Jonathan and a wonderful facial with Amelia. I had another facial scheduled in August. I am getting married soon and I got a “budget” of two facials and a massage as a wedding gift in preparation for the day. My budget was $300-$400, and I had it all planned out. However, I have decided to cancel the next facial and go elsewhere for the third. As I was checking out, there seemed to be a member of corporate there, who was pushing me to get the membership. I explained that I actually used to have the membership but I needed to cancel it due to financial struggles (I’m a teacher). They insisted that though the price has been raised to $75/month, it’s a good deal. I wasn’t doubting that I would save money then and there if I signed up for the membership, but these visits were a gift. I am also on an extremely tight budget as the wedding is very expensive and we just took on a mortgage. She told me that the person buying me the gift could just pay for a whole year, which is $900. That was certainly not an option. (You think they’d give a discount if you bought an entire year all at once, but I digress). She insisted until I told her “I’m sorry, I just can’t.” I then paid for my service and tipped my aesthetician. As I was about to leave, the manager continued about products, telling me that the results of my facial are pointless if I don’t maintain it with their $65 bottle of serum, and that they were 20% off. I again had to insist that it was not in the budget. I left feeling uncomfortable, feeling that I needed to resort to explaining my personal finances in order to get the pushy selling methods to stop. I worked in commission sales for years, and I understand the need for pushing for programs, incentives, and credit cards. However, my rule was “2 will do.” You ask twice in different ways, maybe offering incentives or deals, and if they say no, you stop trying. The first time I signed up for the membership, I was also pressured to do so, and I immediately regretted it upon leaving, knowing I could not afford it. I kept it for 2 years despite my services piling up and not being able to go monthly because I work multiple jobs. When my financial advisor told me I have to shave down my subscriptions, I had to forfeit all of the services I had paid toward, which stung. It should be made clear that the pushy selling was not by the front desk staff. The staff delivering massages and facials are also incredible. This seemed to be someone who was not often there, as she did state she wasn’t sure how to use the iPad because she’s not here very often. It seems I was just there on a day of a corporate visit. I will no longer be visiting Massage Envy and will find a small business to frequent.
Yasmina Estepe: Cearssa was amazing! Not too many good firm/deep masseuses left but she is the one! Got so many knotted and stuff points around my body that I didn’t even know impacted the rest of the pains and stiffness I felt. I had a massive headache from the stiffness in my neck and I walked out with no headache at all :)
Jared Littlejohn: Hiwot is the Goat. Go to them.
Amanda Ethridge: Sam is the best massage therapist I’ve ever had. Book with him if you can!
Julianna Wessels: Really great! My massage was very relaxing, I will definitely return in the future !
Johanna Lopez: Amelia is amazing and her knowledge about skin care is comforting to know. Always feel fresh and relaxed after a session with her.
Ramón Pereira Bonilla: All of the massage therapist always do a great job. The service is top notch. If you likemedium to high pressure, Jinglan and Carlos B. do a phenomenal job!
Reina Morales: I can’t explain how wonderful it felt to go here and pamper myself. I went for a facial with Amelia and a 90 minute massage with Steven and it was an amazing experience. Amelia was so calming and understanding when it came to my skin. I have sensitive skin and she asked me questions about my skin to know what will work out for my skin the most. After the facial, my face felt so light, supple and it just glowed so much. I felt so beautiful, I couldn’t stop taking pictures. A facial with Amelia is a must for self care and I am already referring my friends and my hair stylist to her. The same with Steven, it was the best massage I’ve ever had. I have also referred my friends to Steven. I truly felt like a new person after. I have a very tight lower back, and we did a 90 minute deep tissue massage, and he was fantastic. He made sure I was comfortable, relaxed, and he made sure to focus on my problem areas. My back had never felt so loose ever! I felt like a new person! It was such a relief to not have that tightness and pain anymore. After the massage and facial, I was so relaxed that I went home and slept and relaxed the rest of the day. It was the perfect gift to myself for my birthday, and I will continue to go at least monthly as a new self maintenance and care routine for myself from now on. If you’re thinking about doing this for yourself, I would say just do it. You will not regret it. One last thing, this location was so inviting and professional. Danielle in the front desk made me feel so welcomed and she was so very polite to me. I can’t wait to come back.
Nancy Harrison: Sue K is very good at her craft. She always sensitive to my needs.

VIM Fitness: what do users think?
Waqar Ali: This is not a gym, it's a fancy gym!!! Great place to have your local gym. Super clean, staff are helpful, respectful, and friendly... Best local gym ever. Thinking to get a membership with them.
Diesel I n c: Way overpriced, rude staff and the trainers are clueless. The equipment is nice but thats about it and u can get the same kind of workout at other gyms for half the price. 8 people I know have canceled their memberships at this place. Stay away and find a better and cheaper gym.
Shiran Soholitsky: Love the studio classes. The yoga is absolutely great, teached by great instructors. The mat pilates classes are also great. The showers are well equipped and clean, and there's plenty of available lockers. The only problem is that you can't keep your stuff in the lockers during the week or even during the night, so if you're planning on taking a shower you need to bring your things every time. The good part is that there is towels service :)
Mark Diethelm: The best gym in Cambridge, easily. Lots of equipment, a big clean space and lots of lockers in the locker room. It can sometimes get pretty busy at peak hours, as well run out of space in the locker room, so I recommend going early in the morning or after the post work rush. They recently added a number of new stations and pieces of equipment, adding to its appeal.
J Cha: Clean facility with abundance of different equipments! They are also offering several promotions until 12/31!
Gio B: Called just to ask if they had a sauna. Guy on the phone was rude bad vibes.
Yvan Pearson: Good gym, avoid the 5-6p rush
Kristen Banks: Last couple years with Covid making gyms a risk, this place was impeccable and safe with their cleanliness and protocol. Needless to say I am a fan and appreciate all they do to make my visits the Best!
D Eqb: Clean, well designed, with considerate clientele and professional staff at the most reasonable rate for this caliber of club. Can be a little tight in the free weight area, but that's understandable when securing premium space in one of the most in demand US city centers. The whole place had the feel of a highend club with the exception of the wall under the bathroom hand dryer that could use a little more regular wiping down.
Ashfaqur Rahman: Nice gym. Spacious. Lots of activities even in the early mornings.
Charlie Lewitt: I started going to VIM a couple on months ago when my office moved to Central. I don’t have anything but great things to say. The gym is clean, great layout of equipment, and it’s never overly crowded. For the price, it’s an incredible deal. Not as luxurious as Equinox but leaps and bounds better than a Boston Sports Club.
Julian: Quality equipment. Well maintained facilities. Missing some desirable equipment, most notably a 4 way neck machine. Crowded during rush hour.
Olga Stroilova: love this gym. convenient and clean.
Trevor Guisinger: Great gym, questionable customer service.Loved working out at this gym, equipment is great and always available (at least at times I went). Employees were super nice and helpful. Customer service from upper management is a little sketch. Moving to Chicago in 7 days and instead of working a deal out with a retuning customer they decided it was best to charge me for an entire month. I love this place and will be traveling back to boston ~6 times a year for work. I would have spent the money to workout at VIM during these times if they had treated me better in my moving situation.
Janice Lee: Their customer service is the worst I've experienced in any gym, including a gym like Planet Fitness. Their online system is unnecessarily complex and clunky (e.g. I had to re-type my address, number, and other personal information to cancel, whereas in other gyms, you just tell them your name and ask to cancel.). They also make you cancel at least two months in advance-- this was not communicated to me upon sign-up. When I pointed this out, they were very rude and defensive rather than apologetic. It's a shame BSC Central Square closed down because VIM is 3x as expensive and 3x as rude.
Dana: Clean, good equipment, never insanely busy
Ellen: It has everything I would need and is really well priced, given it's not huge (no pool) or upscale. If you get a day pass, you have to pay $20 which can be deducted if you buy a membership on the same day. I've never used the showers but they look clean. Best of all--and this is super important as a young woman--everyone here is super respectful and I have never felt unsafe or creeped out
Annabella Gong: Joining VIM as a member has been one of the best decisions I've made since moving to the area 2 yrs ago. In addition to offering top-notch fitness classes (which is the most effective way I exercise and trust me you are sore, sweaty, and fulfilled after every class), VIM fosters such a welcoming, inclusive community. Gyms can often feel intimidating, but I've met some of the most genuine, eclectic, awesome people in the VIM community. Couldn't recommend this place more - in my view, the best gym in Cambridge! :)
Bridgette Navejar: Really enjoy working out here. Clean, spacious, and great layout.
jimmitry Emile: Very Nice and clean,
L Eag: Serious gym
