Paul Lester: Very informative tour of the GAR Hall and Museum in Lynn, MA by Wendy Joseph, curator. The historic building and tales about the post-Civil War times of the Lynn veterans was very interesting. The museum collections and impressive rooms of the 1885 building are well worth a visit.Visited on Weekday Wait time No wait Reservation recommended Not sure Price for adult entry Free …More
Ian Charold Herriott: Absolutely incredible. A hidden gem, a time machine… both frozen in time and yet feels relevant to today. An utterly unique historical location. If you’re a Civil War buff, this should be very high on your list. If you’re just in the area and enjoy glimpsing the past, also should be high on your list. Tina Spaulding: Wow. That is all I can say. I want to read the stories they wrote. There are so many things to learn here! I could spend a week.
Ignatius Mulligan: An underappreciated but intact vestige of American Civil War history curated by passionate and knowledgeable caretakers who regal visitors with tales of one of America's bloodiest conflicts interspersed with local connections and original artifacts held in its collections. The "Grand Hall" within the GAR is one of the great architectural treasures in the region.
Rootbeerdrinker: Great place for a quick trip and history lesson on the Civilwar and the Grand Army of the Republic. Staff are nice and proud veterans.
Eric Wells: This hall is one of the most amazing hidden gems of American history anywhere! It is an unspoiled time capsule and a must-see for anyone who is interested in American history in general and Civil War history in particular.

Boott Cotton Mills Museum: what do users think?
Rocco Privetera: Wonderful and full of history!
Michael Luu: One of the most interesting and immersive museums I've been to. I highly recommend going. The video in the theater is about 15 minutes and very informative. It shows the origin story of Lowell and where the city is headed today. I do wish they showed more info on how the water turbines powered the rest of the mill.Visited on Weekend Wait time No wait Reservation recommended No Price for adult entry $1–5 …More

Anne Grasberger: I came because I weave, I'll be back to absorb more of the history of workers, conditions, strikes, and more. Loved the sound of the looms, the complexity of the machines, and buying some of the cotton woven here in the gift shop.
Lucia: Very cool! Better to visit on the weekdays as its less busy. If you go after 415pm, the entry fee is free. They have a working mill and some other elements that make it applicable to kids and adults. Doesn't take too long to visit the whole museum, no more than an hour for me - closer to 40 minutes. This is worth going to along with other museums in the area, or as a side activity.
Ladder of Knowledge: Learned alot.
Frank Mianzo: Nice museum. Worth the stop. Lots more tours available around town.
Stephen & Kathy Brassard: An amazing look back at our recent history. How great development and ingenuity let to horrible work conditions and work place injure and illnesses. And because there were woman who stood up and fought we now have OSHA.
Larry Stewart: Nice place to learn the history of the cotton industry
Donna Mitchell: Parking: The parking garage is near the visitors center, but some blocks away from the mill. The walk past businesses, restaurants and the quilting museum was interesting. Brendan Donoghue: This is a very small museum, but is a little jewel hidden in lowell. Its completely volunteer run, and servers as a satellite to the Kennebunk Maine museum as well as an information center about the trolleys they run during the warmer weather. The majority of the museum is informational, with a few artifacts and a number of interatbule exhibits geared to kids. The second floor is intended for children, and is very cute. Some of the exhibits are a bit dated, but it would have been a blast as small kid interested in trains and trolleys. As a heads up, its cash only or eventbirght ticket. Also, if you are interested in driving a trolly, they offer course at the Kennebunk museum. ask the volunteer at the desk about it!
Christine Groves: Interesting museum with a good play area for kids
Chris K: What a fun little simple place. A wonderful reminder to all that history counts in our lives. Thank you!
Eric Millet: This is a great place where children have plenty of hands on learning opportunities. You can’t beat the price either.
Nick Townley: Great for visiting with kids, distractions for them on all floors and helpful team there. Great value for money and easy street parking.
Tina Filardo: That was an amazing museum! My toddler children loved it and I learned a lot too. There was a streetcar ride to the museum down the street that was free. It was delightful. The volunteers/workers were informative and very welcoming. The second floor of the museum was dedicated to kids and it delivered. Street parking was easy to find Saturday morning. It was 2 hour parking which wasn’t an issue. This is definitely worth visiting. Big value in $3 for adults.

Walter Oviedo: the areas that are around the emblematic places of the city, are in complete disarray. the canals that run through the center of the city. it has too much waste. lowell business area. it lets us see the deterioration of the buildings, dirty and faded showcases. abandoned and dirty business premises. It is an unpleasant sight to the tourist... we must improve.
Clébio Saldanha: Very attentive staff! Very receptive!
Baddie Dae: We live 45 mins away but the trip was worth it. We took our 2 year old as he’s OBSESSED with anything transportation and he loved it. The gentleman working was beyond friendly. Morgan Baker: I loved it! A great little museum. There was about 50 min of material to read and observe. A great place for kids and adults. Interactive exhibits and the staff were VERY knowledgeable. I enjoyed reading about the history of different types of Trolly and the evolution the what Lowell and the Boston area currently uses. Outside there is also a free exhibit of a Boston and Maine steam engine on permanent display. 24/7 - 365. Really cool! Definetly worth the price!
Jonathan Moorehead: Affordable, educational and fun
Dan Myers: Really cool to see the history of mass transit! Really helpful and informative staff.

Joseph Pandiscio: Great service

The free admission includes a tour by a knowledgeable docent who has collected much of the militaria himself. There also is a small souvenir shop and a very large collection of military books and some fairly rare items for sale at very good prices. You can spend between 30 minutes to an hour here, plus the time to browse the extensive book stores.

Michael/Dawn Welch: Husband and I met while stationed at Fort Devens 30 years ago, before it was decommissioned. We appreciated our guide, Jim, who was very knowledgeable and walked us through the history of the exhibit - very personable. Interesting collection of items; fascinating background for each section. Well worth the hour or two it took to walk through. The staff did a nice job; we're glad we made time to visit, thank you!
Mary Douglass: Was freezing cold thru a long winter of frozen roads n ice and just plain cold.
Pat Hardin: Served at Fort Devens in the seventies so I have to give it five stars.
Joyce Mundt: The Fort Davens Museum is a great place to spend several hours learning about the Fort and its history from WWI to the present day. The exhibits are put together well, and the tour guides are well informed.
Arianna Benassi: I am new in Massachusetts and I appreciated so much this visit. The lovely man that toured us was very kind and he gave us a lot of informations about the whole area of Fort Devens. The museum is not big but very interesting. Visiting these kind of places is the best way to keep History alive. The whole Fort Devens is a very nice and interesting visit to do!
Lyle Wheeler: There is a lot of donated artifacts from both world wars at the museum. Guides are very knowledgeable, and answer any questions you may have and you set the pace you want to go through museum. It was an hour well spent.
Aurelian Ardashir: One of my new favorite museums.
Lee D: I went for the Veterans Day weekend exhibit. I heard a good lecture and perused the displays. Interesting stuff and friendly museum members!
Donna Mitchell: Lots of military memorabilia in several rooms. Video of the history of Fort Devens. They need more space and they need to be a lot better organized into distinct periods and wars. The items need to be better labeled, though if they were organized by periods it wouldn't be quite so necessary. They have a map of Fort Devens with the locations of the cemetery, many historic buildings and a few other sites. Since I had never been to Fort Devens before, I drove around to see all the sites. The cemetery location was not quite correct on the map, and most of the buildings were not labeled with any signage tio indicate their former use, though that is not the museum's fault. Considering the many buildings which are vacant, it is a pity that the Commonwealth of Massachusetts won't provide something more suitable for the museum while they are hoping for better-paying tenants to come along. Since the museum is free and staffed by volunteers, they obviously can't afford a high rent. Fundraising and lobbying by veterans groups might help.
TRUE CRIME WITH TERRAFULLSIGHT,& EVERYTHING ELSE!: Great place to visit learning the history! Of our great military!! Past & present!
Paula J Cronin: Very interesting place, I bet most people around the area either knows or knew someone who was stationed at Fort Devens.
Brian Hood: I always love going to visit the Fort Devens Museum. The folks there are full of knowledge and are willing to share it with the visitors. Today, I learned some things about Fort Devens that I didn't know. Stop by and visit. If you get hungry, stop by the Devens Grill.

Marcus Lip: Truly a magnificent museum! The entertaining tour of the trench experience and the short videos were marvelous. Their extensive collection of tanks and war artifacts really intrigued me, with a detailed description of all the tanks and their history. Their team were also really pleasant and skillful. Paul O'Mara: Every museum curator should visit the American Heritage Museum. This is hands-down the most cohesive, exhilarating museum experience I have had in the past 20 years. The entrance room alone was more informative than many 'world class' museums I have visited, and the staff were deeply knowledgeable, friendly and very engaging. The first thing I noticed was a scale model of a war machine imagined and designed by none other than Leonardo da Vinci. There were excellent, easy-to-read placards which conveyed large amounts of information in a few sentences (unlike this author). This clean, direct, concise experience immediately raised my expectations significantly.. and the professionally produced films & immersive audio visual experience in the introduction rooms (there are 3) delivered what I had always hoped for from museums, but had never seen come together before.A+ for amazing experience. I dragged my 8 & 12 yo kids here, and about 5 minutes into the experience, they were suddenly super interested, and seemed to enjoy it almost as much as I did! This is a MUST VISIT museum. Make the trip.
Noa Remi: The American Heritage Museum was a great experience, made even better by volunteer Bill Rose. Deveka Bhardwaj: Very educational museum!! Friendly and welcoming staff, all around the museum!!There is a scavenger hunt that kids can play on paper while walking around the exhibits. I highly recommend that for families with kids, my 9yr old enjoyed it and made him pause and actually read things. We will definitely revisit again! Nice collection of tanks!
Julia Lemieux: Absolutely amazing experience. The staff is knowledgeable and fascinating to listen to. Bill Rose and Kent went out of their way to give my group a truly immersive experience. Showed us the inside of one of the tanks and even got to try on body armor. Highly recommended! Will definitely be returning for the special event weekends!
Nicoletta de Rege: Impressive collection - on par with other national museums across the country. It’s so common for private collections to have one-of-a-kind artifacts or collection items but for these items to be on display to the public - so very cool! I’m thankful the collection is publicly available and it’s local. Our experience was excellent from start to finish! The museum has a clearly marked “suggested” path visitors can follow to showcase how these armored machines have transitioned over the years. Entering the exhibit, you will have an included video introduction with a 4D snippet (think rumbling ground and flashing lights). I was impressed that this was included & considered part of the experience (does not charge extra to go through).Big shout out to the staff who were friendly, knowledgeable and not condescending! We had the opportunity to meet one of the lead education material developers; he was a super nice guy!All and all, we spent about 4 hours here. It was a great place to spend an afternoon! Looking on their calendar, there seems to be lots of fun community events, presentations from veterans at a reasonable price. I got the impression that the museum is family oriented and all about honoring those who have served. I can really get behind that.
