Henry Lebensbaum: It's the Essex county bar association that provides services to member lawyers including updates, seminars, and means of communication with each other. They also have a lawyer referral service in a number of different areas and they also have an opportunity for the consumer to opt for members of the referral service who are willing to charge less.I've been a member for many years and I'm extremely satisfied and I have attended their seminars and they are excellent. And the people I met at the seminars are very friendly as are the staff of the association.

Unless you need an Ambulance Chaser or Slip & Fall Hack they are completely unable to assist.There is only one guy that answers the phone after you have waited for half hour or more. He is completely rude and obtuse. The attorneys they recommend PAY to be recommended. It is not a real referral. Frustrating process to find a competent lawyer that is unfortunately worsened by believing this is a legitimate tool

Didn't get a referral, or even a hint at what area of law my case falls under. No help whatsoever. Waste of time, just google yourself a lawyer and save yourself the headache.

If you do not meet their "income guidelines," you'll be referred elsewhere.On 5/31, a representative collected my name, address, phone number and estimated income only to later refuse to provide me with the name of an attorney.When I asked for a supervisor, the representative explicitly stated he would not allow me to speak to one and then hung up on me.Called back and spoke to a supervisor who told me that poor people can't afford the rates of the attorneys who pay into this service and will have to seek help from other agencies.After this negative experience, never again will I contact this company.
