Sahel Restaurant & Lounge: what do users think?
Nathalie Bienaime: Where do I beginneed better waiters was not a welcoming atmosphereThe food was okay the oxtail and white rice the rice overcookedMy boyfriend had jerk chicken dry but tastyThe service was horrible
Rithy Eth: Always drove by this restaurant so thought to give it a try tonight. Ordered delivery and regretted it. Ordered only 2 items and they forgot one of the items. The order i did received was the jerk chicken but first bite it was cold. Also, only recieved 3 small pieces of chicken which for the price point in my opinion isn't worth it. Overall, a bad experience and won't be giving it a second chance.
Felicia Coutu: Worked there from January 25th to February 14th. For my first week(until the 31st) I had no numbers to clock in nor use for serving and using pos system, therfore all my credit tips went to someone else. I was serving, hosting, bartending(don't know anything about it) bussing and answering the phones. Bosses would stand around drinking and watch the chaos unfold as people waited extra long for uncooked food, horrible beverages and no bread or butter to eat while waiting. They also were only paying me $5.50 per hour even after explaining to them the law has changed to 6.75 for servers as of 1/25. Finally after my first paycheck for 5.50 a hour they told me they would fix it for next paycheck. They did but only to 6.50. They also aren't aware that the law states if my tips and min wage do not sum up to the minimum wage of $15 I am entitled to the larger one whichever that is. And I never made tips as the place is not busy. It is sad to see how many people run that place illegally and how many employees are not paid properly.
Bob Lala: Very much a mid spot. How are you in a college community but don’t throw +18 parties. I should not be partying next to someone 3x my age…
Betchela meronnis: I have mixed feelings about the food. I am from the Caribbean and I have so many friends who are Africans and I love to eat their jollof rice. So, I decided to buy it. The rice was really dried. It looked like it been cooked for a while. They just heat it up in the microwave.Dancing Jerk Chicken was great but spicy.Egusi Stew. I did not like the smell. The smell was so unpleasant. Again, maybe because of different cultures but I didn’t like it.Overall, there is room for improvement. Lowell is full of Africans. Having a restaurant with good food to represent them will be fantastic.
Kazi Tanzeem Shahid: We came to Lowell on short notice and were looking for a restaurant that was open in late night. We called and confirmed that the restaurant closes at 12, and the kitchen closes at 11.When we came after 10, we were told that the kitchen closed at 10, and the restaurant is closing. We tried to explain what we were told a short while ago, and they just shut the door on our faces. Apparently this early closing happens on Sundays, then why were we told of the later closing times since we called on a Sunday? This kind of miscommunication is beyond frustrating.EDIT: Regarding the owner's response, I can understand that the kitchen closes at 10, that's fine, but since we called just shortly before that, we should not have been told that the kitchen closes at 11.And my name isn't KariAlso, if anyone who thinks i'm being nitpicky here, we were on Lowell during a connecting flight, we literally were short on time and finding a place to eat that late at night was a more critical issue than usual.
Jennifer Boggie: The food is delicious and the atmosphere is friendly. My only complaint is the food takes a long time to come, but it's delicious and freshly prepared, and very flavorful. Great for family dinner and kid-friendly, but also an excellent date night atmosphere.
Shaleen Gutu: The food is terrible. The oxtail taste like it was drowned in ketchup. Egusi is not authentic. They have people who aren’t even versed in cooking ethnic food. Don’t even dare come at night the service is absolutely terrible the bartenders are great but they don’t have sufficient staff to help. Owners and management have no knowledge of their own bar. Waiting 20mins for a drink at a Lowell bar that’s not even near capacity is absolutely ridiculous. Mind you management called me a “b****” after voicing my frustrations. 1/10 I don’t recommend.
Keionia Jefferson: Good food had a great experience
Steven Gutierrez: This was the worst experience I ever been too been here couple times dj was not good security guard was super rude and ridiculous was ignoring me while I was talking would not recommend hope that lightskin security will not be working there no more super disrespectful to customers!!!
Natalia Gonzalez: Such bad customer service when coming in. The guy security is disrespectful and shouldn’t work there.
Becky Ajuonuma: Came here for a private group dinner and had a great experience. The owner and restaurant manager gave us a personal overview of the restaurant and it’s mission + all the events they put on to engage with the community.I particularly enjoyed the food (went for seconds because it was buffet style) I had the beef suya, stew, plantains, puff puff and couscous. There’s a restaurant at the top and a lounge + bar at the bottom for events.
Orianna Natsis: I decided to try Sahel after having walked past it dozens of times. After my experience there I can definitely say I will be coming back, as well as recommending it to others! The food was delicious- quickly prepared, fresh ingredients, and absolutely delicious! The staff was extremely friendly and polite. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. If you're looking for your new favorite dish, try the Dancing Jerk Chicken!
Giovannie Z: This is a terrific restaurant. The food is great especiallyas an African, you eat and feel like home. I wish I could give them 10 stars. Thank you for giving us a taste of homeFood: 5/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 …More

tunde adebimpe: Horrible experience! I don’t know how this reviews came to be and I’m curious to know. I ordered pounded yam and egusi. Pounded yam is the size of a tennis ball. My egusi soup had no meat!!! No meat!!!! I repeat, no meat!!!! I told the owner and the server and owner asked if I wanted to order meat separately. This bowl cost me $24, 50% more than I’d pay to eat same meal somewhere else. Yes, no meat! This reviews are from non-Africans. No wonder I don’t see a single African come in, and place is super empty. I will not be going back!!
Levitate Echo on PS5: Food was great and people were nice I recommend
Julissa Jiminian: I’ve always wanted to try egusi and fufu but I’ve never been able to find anywhere near. This local spot in Lowell has incredible food. I finally tried it today and let me tell you if you’ve been thinking about it just try it you won’t be disappointed. The staff was super friendly I will definitely come by again and have some drinks they close at 2am on Fridays!!
Joseph Hayes: Food and Service Was Great...Unfortunately There is A Junky Who Sits In A Lawn Chair in front of Restaurant Begging For Change, And His Friends either passed out...and/or doing drugs/drinking on the Side Of The Restaurant...its such a shame City of Lowell let people like this ruin this area...we surely will not be back to dine in...but will probably have it delivered...it was delicious...just a shame about who is hanging out in the front.
Kat Chantre: This is the second time I've tried to order from this restaurant and couldn't. First time I ordered online for their oxtail plate, after waiting a while for my order. Tracking the online order I noticed it was automatically changed to the jerk chicken dish which I did not want. I guess they ran out of oxtail, but I had to contact the delivery driver to not accept the order. Because first, I was not informed that they no longer had oxtail and if I would prefer a different dish. I let it go asked for a refund and left it at that. This time around the oxtail is no longer available for online order, I noticed it hasn't been since, so I decided to go with two other dishes. The jerk chicken and the red snapper. Online explains the fish can be "baked or fried" but I had no way to make that option to choose. And the picture online also shows veggies but nothing that guaranteed it to come with the plate other than rice. So I had questions, or tried to leave a special instructions, however online they were not receiving special or specific instructions, even if I was to write I have a shellfish allergy since I saw they also carry shrimp inhouse. So I called the restaurant for pickup order through the phone, with hope someone could answer all my questions because now no matter what online method I used like delivery, pick up or carry out I was faced with the same restrictions. I called around 2:30pm, a gentleman answered and said he would call me back in 5 mins but never did, I called many times after that and got no answer. Really sucks because all I see is great reviews and amazing pictures uploaded with reviews that make you want to try their food. But maybe the only way is to dine in. But I would hate to meet the same bad experience.
Wincia Emmanuel: Best restaurant ever they foods is very delicious

R C: Overpriced burnt food. They claim that the prices online are from an “old menu”🤔 $9 kids meals( better off at McDonald’s)were overcooked,!! veggie & meat Sambusas were burnt! Fish was burnt! Do they only eat Burnt food in Ethiopia?? The waitress kept forgetting my spiced tea had to remind her multiple times. Took forever to get our food. A “Karen” kept gawking at me and my kids. (Instead of paying and leaving she decided to stare) Don’t u know it’s rude to stare? Her boyfriend kept coughing without covering up his Covid cough mouth… no manners. No ventilation in the place.🤬. They weren’t prepared for our party of 6 Even though I called a day earlier and made “reservations “. I felt like they overcharged us for everything because we’re American(and I told them so). $175+ 😲 I didn’t make a scene, I just Won’t be coming back. I tipped out of pity, but the food was horrendous.
Zoe Ulrich: Recommended dishes Doro Wot, Habesha SpecialMore
Shan Shi: Very tasty Ethiopian food, although they will serve (and charge) you a bottle of water instead of a cup of tap water regardless of how you ask
Tracie Bodie: I had the crab cake special and tasted the braised short rib. Both were delicious.
Hattie Folse: Food was delicious. Service was top notch
Home Brewer: I went here for dinner with friends, left the place feeling ecstatic. The food is served in a big plate and it's communal style, we sat around and shared from the same plate. We got veg Sambusa, Habesha special with Kitfo Dulet(minced beef) and Beret Metad Tibs(cubed grilled lamb). Ufff! Both the meat dishes were so flavorful and delicious. Every bite with meat wrapped in injira was heaven. It's been an hour since we left and am writing this review smiling and reliving my experience. As for the service, we got seated and asked to place order immediately but it did take long time for us to get the food to the point that all of us were starting to get impatient. So expect to wait even you get seated right away.Vegetarian options: Limited vegetarian options. One in appetizer and entrée each
Conan: Oh my goodness, the food is out of the world! Vegetarians you should totally check out this place. The veggie platter is delicious!
Sandy Norvius: Recommended dishes Habesha Special, Cheese Cake, Coffee and PopcornMore

kaitlyn jaffe: Absolutely amazing food. It was our first time trying African food and I can confidently say we will be ordering many more times.
BelieversLove World: Great work guys. West African food is to difficult to make. It's not easy
Sly D: Very delicious Egussi Soup and Jollof
Emmanuel Popoola: ZERO STAR, Very stupid restaurant, automated response, no human to clarify with, scam!! food ordered and never delivered.
M White: I should order simple take away 24 hours in advance when am hungry now??? If I should die before the time ….. “Wetin I go do ?!!” This place no get sense at all !
Mary Mary: Worse experience I’ve ever gotten trying to order something I’m craving badly! SameAutomated responses to questions. It’s very confusing when you can only order via texts and you just keep getting same automated responses. Spent almost 1hr trying to place my order. I eventually gave up and just went to get McDonald’s#tryingtosupportblackbusiness😢
Prince Sylvester: I tried the seafood okra meal. It was delicious
Forsyte Foundation: Great work indeed. We ordered Jollof Rice and goat meat. We received a full aluminium bowl with 4 meat 4 sodas 4 meat pie and it was delicious.
Posh Porscher: The Jellof Rice now comes in small alluminium bowl instead of the plastic bowl. That's generous
Eesuwah: African Restaurant Online is the only African Restaurant that provides fresh foods by the Hour by first class Test Messaging System. It can only get better. A true Pacesetter indeed!
Upperroom Discourse: We tried the Banga soup with starch. It was delicious soup. You have to be experienced to cut the starch fufu because it's different
murara yvan: Worse experience. They say online that u can dine in. I took an Uber went there but couldn’t find the place . Called for half an hour but no response.
Leon K: Don't bother, they don't answer phone calls or respond to text messages. Been trying to get an order in for two days now. Disappointing, I was really looking forward to trying the food.
Ms. Masterson: If you are looking for great tasting Nigerian/African cuisines, look no further. They have great services, on time delivery, great prices and absolutely delicious meals. I highly recommend their services and will continue to order their tasty Suyas, among other great tasty meals they serve!
Nique Adams: Food was amazing. I order from them before but this egusi and fufu was the freaking bomb ! I’m an American girl who love African culture and food. Amazingggggg!!! Portion sizes are for at least 4 people. & delivered to me over a half hour a way for a small fee. Love love loved it !!
Eddie Street: I rarely leave reviews. But I must say, the Egusi w/ fish was SO flavorful that I had to show my appreciation. Compliments to the chef, as well as to the customer service. Those who wrote negative reviews don’t understand how labor-intensive and time consuming it is to prepare some of these dishes. Be patient, and you wont be disappointed. Blessings.
Horace Lyken: I tried the ogbono soup with goat meat and yam fufu. It was really delicious. I appreciate. Thanks
Princess Paul: This place has the worst service ever and nobody ever picks up the phone. Also the owner needs to make it more clear that you have to order food 24 hrs in advance.
Boss Ross: Food was delicious, it was not too spicy, and I will order more in the future. It seem a little pricey, but I have recommended them to my friends. The customer Service was excellent. The show up on time with hot food.

Nathan Parker: One of the better places in the area. Highly recommend.
Sean Steckbeck: Amazing place and warm atmosphere!
Robel: They serve old MICROWAVED injera, no shame in their game. I’ve never seen any habesha people eating there so that says enough on its own. If you’re looking for good Ethiopian, look elsewhere.

T H: First time trying and was so disappointed. I ordered lamb tibs, and shiro wot. The injera was old and firm, lamb tibs had no flavor, no berbere, and shiro was watery. Even if it was free this food is not worth it. Eat literally at any other Ethiopian or eritrean restaurant and it will be 100% better.
Hannah Weigert: We order takeout from here often and the food is consistently delicious and is ready within 10 mins. We usually get the ultimate combo.
Jonathan Kebede: The worst place to order food. I order the most easiest food they can make “gored gored” man the messed it in every possible way. You shouldn’t not be allowed to have a restaurant. You should be ashamed of yourself to own Ethiopian restaurant and not able to make “gored gored”
Sa Essa: I wished I can put 0 star, cold not fresh food and they refused to heated for us we left it all we couldn’t even take a bite
Tekie Anday: Not very professional service, the food 8s also off taste. Kitfo special didn't taste normal. No butter taste in kitfo, who makes kitfo with oil? Quit the kitfo or make it right.
L Y: Went there on Monday night, and we were the only customers, I ordered two entrees, the one was recommended by the owner, it was mostly starchy bread with beef jerky, have to say that was a huge mistake. The lamb dish were ok, very little food though. Taste were ok, and I had much better Ethiopian foods before. It's one of those restaurants that you go once and won't return. My friend had the veggie combo, very little food as well. It did take two meat entrees to feed one person.
Geetika Bajpai: Big fan of Ethiopian cuisine. Tried this cafe after all the ratings. Got the vegetarian combo plate. The food was okay, for some reason seemed really low on flavor side. Bread itself wasn't sour as it was supposed to be. Wasn't the best of Ethiopian food of all the places tried. May be it was just that day of takeout ? Not sure. Lentils, also tasted pretty bland. Not the best of experience.
Ruta: Nice place.Good food. The chicken was really goodDine in: Yes Takeout: Yes …More
Amelia Nayfield: I've been here multiple times and everytime it's fantastic! The service is fast and everyone is so genuine and kind. The food is immaculate and I cannot recommend it enough. The atkilt is my favorite but just about whatever you order is fantastic. The shiro wot and samosas are divine. This restaurant deserves a full five stars everytime. The portions are very generous especially for the price. One of my favorite restaurants I have ever been to!
Rod Nayfield: Incredible Ethiopian cuisine. I have been to many Ethiopian restaurants up and down the east coast from DC, to NYC, and Boston ... Sheger is among the best - including the famed DC Adams Morgan restaurants. As you can see from the photo, we had a massive amount of food shared between three people. The Ethiopian samosa appetisers were great and the food arrived quickly. We took home leftovers and saved room for the baklava dessert which was fantastic.Highly recommended.
Julia Zhu: My favourite local Ethiopian place! They have a big meat/veggie combo I like to get. Try the honey wine!
J Smith: Will not dine here again, wait staff was rude and did not accommodate, asked for papers and after explaining why I could not provide I was told to leave and not return. Wrong side of history...
Elinor Actipis: I used to like this place, but it's very unfriendly and discriminates against customers based on medical status for no clear reason, not in accordance with town regulations.
Brian Leslie: Sloooow, inattentive service from a waiter who has to be beckoned to bring us water and the check. But there is zero atmosphere or ambience. No background music playing, which makes it TOO quiet, so much so that we felt the need to speak softly to avoid having every word we say be audible to every other table in the restaurant. all this made for a very awkward dining experience. After eating here twice, we won't be back. Not recommended for vegans. I specified vegan and yet my food came out on the same plate (and comingled with) meat dishes my friend ordered.

Lucy Ethiopian Cafe: what do users think?
Lucas Arndt: The service was okay, nothing too notable one way or another...The decorations were very reminiscent of being in a standard cafe, which is alright. The food was not what I expected. I ordered the meat and lamb special combos for myself and my wife. The meat seemed quite bland, especially the lamb. The side vegetables were alright. The split peas were quite good. The biggest issue was the fermented sponge bread (I am unsure of the name of this bread, but anyone familiar with Ethiopian food should know this iconic bread item). Anyway, the bread was quite cold - perhaps chilled, and rolled up on the side of the dish rather than being laid out beneath the food on the platter. No one part of the experience was particularly bad, but the combination of standard cafe seating, bland meat, cold bread, and hands-off service made the meal about as uninspiring as it can get.
Kristy Johnson: $60 for 3 people and we had food leftover.Everything was perfectly seasoned. The lamb was tasty. The collard greens and lentils and cabbage were my favorites. The side of cottage cheese was only $1!Extra Injera was only $2!The iced tea tastes like ginger and honey and maybe cinnamon.Super convenient location too, as it’s right near the reflecting pool and fenway and the Pru!I LOVE this place!!!

Jennifer Jacobs: What a delicious meal! Everything was fresh and so, so good! We had both a vegetable combo and a Doro Wot combo and both were excellent. The injera was fabulous. A friendly server greeted us and the restaurant has a simple and lovely decor. Perhaps because it was very cold out the restaurant has trouble heating the space but it was SO cold. Everyone had their coats on...fully zipped up, hats and scarves on, too! Otherwise, I'd give the five stars. Try it on a day that isn't 8 degrees :-)We were so hungry I forgot to grab a photo before we dove in...maybe our devoured platter can show you how good it was!

eric Safali: Had the combo meal on this second visit . Very tasty however I give 4 stars because the injera wasn’t as soft or fresh as I remember having on my first visit a couple of years ago
Michael Bizunhe: Great placeRecommended dishes Extra Injera, Sambosa, Zilzil Wot, Quanta Firfir or TIBS Firfir …More
ashish kumar: The worst Ethiopian food I ever had in the last 10 years. Injera was so stale and sour that I couldn't even take a bite. The veggies were tasteless and the chicken was over cooked. Also they made you wait for an hour for the food.
Akshada Shinde: Horrible service ! Not so good food ! Overcharging !We waited 20 minutes for the waitress to take our order although there were only two tables occupied including us. It took them another hour to get us one vegetarian and one non-vegetarian combo plates. The injeras were horribly sour and the waitress was very rude. She did not inform us that gratuity was already added and when went to ask her about it she just ignored us. This place is only open to legally rob people. One star for the honey wine, the only good thing we had at that place.
Priyank Jain: Vegetarian options: The veggie curry is a must try- squash perfectly cooked and very flavorful. Kid-friendliness: Spacious place. Staff was welcoming. We brought in our stroller. Changed our table. Got a high chair. Did not have non alc drinks in menu. No problem. Next door is a convenience store. Staff said ok to byob for the kids :)
Dragan Ange: Delicious food! Very fresh and tasty! One of the best dinners in my life. I highly recommend trying a mixed plate so you can try a little bit of everything. Friendly people and good good coffee
Donovan Myra: Great food and friendly service!
Mary Shannon: Dine in: Yes Outdoor seating: No Takeout: Yes Curbside pickup: NoMore
John Ogren: The food was amazing. Great flavors. The service was horrendous. We waited an hour to get our meal and about 20 minutes to reciee our check. Drinks took forever and we never recieved our hot water. The only reason I have 4 starts was for the food... Otherwise they would of received 1 star. Bring your patience and don't be In a rush.
Christine baxter: Food was very good. Waitress was excellent helping us order. Went out of her way also helping us get an Uber. I’d visit again!!!!Dine in: Yes Outdoor seating: No Takeout: No Delivery: No Curbside pickup: No …More
Andrew Todtenkopf: The food is made to order so it can take a bit of time, but it is well worth the wait. Have tried Ethiopian at a few other places but Fasika is by far my favorite!Dine in: Yes Outdoor seating: No Takeout: Yes …More
Derbabawit Channel: We had a Vegetarian combo and Cheese with Collard green, it's not how we truly expected especially the cheese with collard come out horribly. What makes me write the review is the server wasn't helpful when we confide her the food is not right and she answered that is not her fault but it's the cook, and she hand over me to write the review instead of asking for an apology! What a service!.

Addis Cafe: what do users think?
Sujatha Sivakumar: Nice
Gregory Marton: They were closed (Monday dinner time) and didn't have hours posted. It didn't look like there was much space to dine in, just one table, so probably best to order out.
Heather Coady: Not too friendly if ya ask me...I did not feel welcome
Selam A: they sell the best enjera! Everyone living around Malden should get enjera from there.

Sarah Wang: Such a fun vibe and great flavors! Loved the huge plates and eating with my hands. I don’t think I am the biggest fan of Eritrean food, but everything tasted great. I especially loved the sponginess of the bread :) Very friendly waitress too! I recommend getting the trials of the meat and veggie, so you can taste everything! Surprisingly, I liked the bean dishes the best.
Micki Reinhorn: Great flavor. Fun environment for familyRecommended dishes Meat Combination …More
James Zabik: The ambiance is pretty casual, and you come in and wait in line until your part can be seated. My party and I ordered the meat combo and the veggie combo so we could try a bunch of things. It was totally the best move because we got to try so many amazing things. Eating with your hands and the injera bread was a little weird at first but after a minute I was loving the experience!I would definitely come back here as it was all so flavorful and different than most things around here. I definitely recommend visiting!
