da Vinci Learning Center: what do users think?
Jenn Bradbury: Dr. Yermish is the only therapist that I have ever felt understood me at all. There is something both beautiful and awful about being a gifted person, and that complexity is something that Aimee understands from the inside. For the first time in my life, I feel okay with who I am, and it is because of her. I appreciate her absolute honesty, her integrity and her no-nonsense approach.
Dolores August: This person should not be working with children. We were drawn to her because she is one of the few that claims to be gifted children specialized. She thinks she is being "clear" with boundaries with children, but in reality she is being a bully to them. She hardly interacted with my child, but when she did, it was to scold him. My son went in excited to be able to talk with someone, and he left in tears. We had to do some damage repair to get him to see someone else (who, by the way he absolutely loves and has already made great strides). She offered us "a more affordable" option to find out what was going on instead of paying for expensive testing. This ended up being two hours of her talking about herself and her own achievements and knowledge. We were promised certain things in that consult, which were not given, and we could have put our money towards testing. We were then handed a bill for the highest rates I have ever seen and months later I have not received a promised statement so that I can try to collect from my insurance. What she charged would have been the co-pay for a full neuro psych eval! Her reputation was that she was "rough-edged" and I was prepared for that. Our experience was much worse than expected. If you do go to her, demand to know what you will pay for her services up front (in writing), even if she makes it seem she is giving you a free initial consult. But be forewarned, it may be a complete waste of money.
Jennifer Lish: Dr. Aimee Yermish is a highly esteemed colleague. She is dedicated to doing her absolute best for each person she serves. Dr. Yermish takes a sensitive, nuanced expert approach to figuring out what would be the best educational setting and method for each individual and then to helping them or their parents find or craft that arrangement. She is a highly skilled and resourceful professional. I recommend her strongly.
Catharine Alvarez: Excellent, very thorough and thoughtful!
Tricia Elbl: We had Dr. Yermish do testing on our son. She was professional and engaging, and her report was thorough and comprehensive. I highly recommend her to anyone!
Danielle S: Just Awful. We requested educational testing for our advanced child. I knew I should have never gone back when she used words such as "stupid" in her conversations with my 5 year old. She was awkward, made no effort to help my child feel comfortable, and used a harsh tone. We went back only because she was the only psychologist in the area with a background in gifted testing. We traveled over 2 hours to see her and she was 30 mins late to appointments. Then she insisted on diagnosing my child with Autism even after talking to another expert in the field who knows my child very well. This required us to seek a 2nd opinion at the Yale Child Study Center; the doctors there laughed at her report. Even after being presented with ample evidence that she made a misdiagnosis, she refused to provide us with the educational testing that we initially asked for. A complete waste of time and money.
