Precisioncamera: what do users think?
Christian Gilbert: We sent in a Sony camera to be repaired because Sony recommended this company. It was not under a warranty so we had to pay out of pocket. I am disappointed in the communication of the company throughout the process. They told me I can check for repair updates online but it never updated. I emailed the company and called multiple times for updates but all they told me were parts were back ordered and that was after I sent the money. First, I was told the camera would cost a certain amount and it was significantly higher once they sent me the invoice. The excuse was that they had to fix everything wrong with it even if I didn't request it to make sure it was up to par with Sony standards. This was $958 total. Then it was two to almost three weeks without communication and in the repair process. I emailed and then it was miraculously on its way to be shipped out. I received the camera back and the navigation buttons weren't working. The camera didn't go in with that issue. I called back and told them. It took them 2 days to decide to send me a return shipping label to send the camera back in. Then an additional 2 weeks for me to receive the camera back after they fix that issue. Still no updates on where they were in the process of that repair either. Just a lot of calling and emailing with no answers until it's time to ship. The shipping was fast once it was actually repaired. They fixed the other issue at no additional charge which was a good thing since there repairs only have a 90 day warranty. The overall camera works good now but working with them is a headache.
Alexandria Peck: A lens rolled out of my backpack while I was traveling and...well. It didn't look good. It looked like my frontal glass element was done for, as well as the rim around it. Sent it off, knew it was going to be pricey but still not nearly as bad as purchasing a new lens. A few days later I had a quote. They replied very quickly via email with answers to my questions. And I had my lens back 2 weeks later due to parts having been ordered...which makes sense to me. So far it's sharp as a tack and looks great.I was pretty worried considering the reviews are quite poor, but they did what needed to be done and I will now be investing in a much more secure camera bag! And no, I do not work for them.
Jorge Ramirez: They analyzed and took care of my camera real fast. No joke, I recommend getting your Sony camera fixed here as they're the official repair shop
Samuel Stone: I'm really surprised that precision has such negative reviews... Recently, I sent my GRiii to them for a sensor cleaning and lens replacement. To my surprise, they went above and beyond my expectations and completed the job in just one day. They not only replaced the defective lens unit but also thoroughly cleaned the sensor and calibrated the entire camera. I was pleasantly surprised when I received my camera back within a week of sending it out. I had braced myself for a long waiting period, but the efficiency and responsiveness of the Precision team were nothing short of commendable. They were very receptive to my complaints about the camera, and they addressed them all promptly. I am incredibly grateful for their exceptional service and would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to the entire team at Precision!
A ZAVER: First time sending a GM lens in for repair, and though my patience didn't appreciate the two-week turnaround, it was otherwise painless.
George Farinas: Called to see if my Memory clip could be fixed on my Sony camera, as the memory gets stuck and won't snap out. Mind you, my camera otherwise works fine. The lady said it would be $450 just to take a look, plus on top of that, whatever charges incurred to fix! Are you kidding me??? THX BUT NO THX!!!
R: I am compelled to write my review because of all the horrible reviews I read before I "took the risk" and sent my camera here for repair. I brought my camera to 2 local repair businesses who said they can make the repair no problem. Both places ended up returned the camera with an apology that they are unable to make the repair. as a last resort i took the risk and sent it to Precision Camera. After a week of them having my camera i got a email saying my part i needed is on back order and they will continue to update me until the receive the part. After about 3 weeks of them having my camera I got an email saying my camera is repaired and being shipped back to me next day. the cost was about 300 dollars, which is way cheaper than i was expecting. Needless to say Precision camera came through where my local repair shops could not, and at a very reasonable price in my opinion. Would recommend.
Dave and Kate Watts: My Sony RX 100II went in for service under an extended warranty. After a confusing experience with Sony's Servify representatives, I was not entirely comfortable about the process. The Precision Camera representative was kind, thoughtful and patient with my questions. The repair team was efficient and quick. My camera was back to me in less than 10 days, looking and working like new! Being able to check repair status online was a bonus. Great experience. Great team! 5 stars
Jonathan Arena: Sent camera for warranty repair (camera would not charge) as instructed by manufacturer. I received a bill for $808 with no explanation. My email asking for details was ignored. After calling several times with no answer, I finally got through to someone that told me there was physical damage to the charging port and therefore was not covered under warranty. There was no physical damage to the camera, and most annoyingly- the charging port WORKS (its a usbc terminal) that still transferred files.Even more annoying, I had also purchased an extended "Sony Protection Plus" warranty, which DOES cover physical damage, but they refused to acknowledge it's existence. After calling back 5 times, being hung up on twice, I finally got though asked for them to send my camera back to me without repair and they WILL NOT RETURN MY CAMERA WITHOUT A $93 "REPAIR REFUSAL FEE".See attached for non existent "Physical Damage"
Ben Bennett: I sent in my camera via an insurance claim to have the external mic input fixed, and when it returned, it worked perfectly and was immaculately clean, it hasn’t been this clean or worked so well since I bought it. Very grateful to have it back in such good condition!
Matthew Hunt: My Pentax DSLR started acting up (lines through the images, mirror flipping when it shouldn't) so I sent it in for service. After about a month, it came back unrepaired, with the slip saying there was water damage. This is nonsense, the problem started with the camera sitting safe and dry in a bag next to my desk. (I have no reason to lie about this, it's out of warranty and I'd be paying no matter what caused it.) It was a waste of time and money to send it to them, and I'm angry that they're the only Ricoh-authorized facility in the US.
Thomas Crabtree: I've had a pretty bad experience with this place so far.I had my shutter fail on a Sony A7IV - less than a year old. I called Sony and they told me that it would indeed be covered under their warranty. I just needed to send it to Precision Camera for routine evaluation and repair.I called Precision before sending off my camera and they informed me that the current evaluation time was 2-3 business days. I sent my camera off and it arrived safely. I didn't receive an update until 7 business days later and only after I called. They said that they were not going to repair in under warranty and sent me an invoice for $800.When I called Precision to ask about it the customer support rep told me that "shutter damage was not covered" and when I said that Sony told me it would be they had no answer. I asked if I could speak to the person who made the decision not to repair it under warranty and they said "sorry, they don't take phone calls."So I was basically stonewalled with no recourse for further action.I have had two Sony representatives tell me it should be covered. Sony is looking into the situation now. I will be sure to update when it's resolved.Edit:Going to update this. Once Sony finally did inform Precision that it was indeed covered by their warranty they repaired it and got it back to me within several days, so that was nice. But still the flow of communication that this place has in place is atrocious. The customer service reps have no actual working knowledge of your order and its basically impossible to speak to someone who does. I would have been much happier with all the back and forth about my camera if I was allowed to speak to someone at precision who actually had looked and worked on my camera.
andrew solo: Surprised to see all the low reviews. Sony sent mine here to do a warranty repair. The repair did not take very long, I got my lens back back in about a week.I was very happy to see how secure they packed everything (MUCH better than how it came from Best Buy).Everything was very nice, neat, and snug, with a document on top explaining exactly what was done.Very impressed, thank you!!!
G. Smith: Great service and fast turnaround time.
Joe Tullar: Sent my Sony A7-III to PrecisionCamera for an out of warranty repair. The filters on the image sensor were damaged by lasers at a concert I had covered, resulting in large groups of discolored areas on my images/videos. They were quick to respond with the quoted cost and estimated turn around time. I was happy to have my camera back to me in a very reasonable time. Due to the damage it would seem they provided me an entirely new camera body, and simply swapped over the serial # plate. Certainly a lot cheaper than buying a new body outright.Overall it was a wonderful experience and their customer support reps were super kind and a pleasure to talk with. I'd happily send any other gear to them for future repairs if needed down the road.
karen subritzky: Website said it was open 9am to 5pm. Drove almost 2 hours to go there. Closed with sign on door saying call this number. Called the number, friendly person said yes it's closed most of the time. She said she would see if anyone was there that could help us, put us on hold, came back 10 minutes later saying no sorry can't help. We left, very dissatisfied and disappointed.
Justin Aubuchon: Sent my 24-70 Sony GM in for repair under warranty - came back working great! They had to order a part so there was a little delay but they emailed to let me know. Not sure what all the negative reviews are about - people like to complain too much lol
BroCat: 5 stars to Barbara for how polite, kind, and helpful she was. Her communication skills truly made the repair process so much better. Mahalo for your help Barbara & PCR team.
Thomas D: I sent in a camera with a broken lense as this is the only authorized service center for Ricoh. With months delay and little to no follow up, I finally got an invoice with no description for over $800. When you combined only being offered a replacement unit for almost $200 over the price available from the manufacturer and their complete lack of response or details, I must strongly caution anyone who has to use this company. Once they tell you your camera is not repairable, check to see if a direct replacement will be cheaper than the replacement they are trying to sell you. And if you use your camera for business, better buy a new one as you may not hear anything for months.
Thiago: I sent my Ricoh GR III camera in to have the plastic mount on the optics fixed. The camera was working perfectly, even without this part. I was sent an estimate of USD 378.50 from Ricoh (Web Order #: W10065528).After receiving the camera, this store sent me a new quote in the amount of USD 470.22 (Precision Camera Repair tag 4756933), which I approved.5 days after my approval, a new quote was sent to me, with the unreal value of USD 873.08 (which I rejected because it practically represents the value of a new camera) with the following justification:The technician determined that the part that was previously estimated for would not resolves your issue and the unit needed to be re-estimated.This company does not respect consumers and charges extortionate amounts for simple repairs.
Sardar Khan: Just like everyone else when I had initially read the reviews I was quite terrified sending my camera to them for warranty repair. I went ahead anyways since I had no other choice and all I can say is that they truly did an amazing job. The lady on the phone who I spoke to was very friendly and courteous and the updates and repair status tracking via email made everything a breeze. I had the camera repaired and shipped back in less then two weeks which is really fast considering the had to special order the replacement lens from Sony. Obviously my experience may not be indicative of everyone else's but precision camera has given me nothing to complain about.

I saw the Geek Pro Repair ad online. I needed a repair and I know places like Staples and Best Buy are quite expensive. I was amazed at the quick service repair and my jaw dropped open when I heard the price for parts and labor! I thought it would have been much more expensive! Great price! Signed, One Happy Customer!
