Baystate Eye Care: what do users think?
Jackie Rivera: Made an appointment. All was fine until I am done with exam. Come to find out they don't even provide the option for you to get glasses there. Gave me a prescription that is missing half the information I need to order glasses on line. I called this morning 5/11/22 had to leave message. I was called back to only make the experience worst, I had Jocelyn on the phone, with the most unprofessional unacceptable attitude you can give a first time patient. After her unsatisfying explanation and unprofessional attitude I asked to speak to a manager or supervisor. Was placed on hold, and before even being connected to a supervisor or manager, I was hung up on. Jocelyn with her unprofessional attitude was telling me I had to go to an optical to get the rest of the information I was looking for in my prescription. I called back, left a voice message on Jessica's (manager) voice mail to call me back. Jessica called back. Very pleasant she explained everything when it comes to their office practice. They have an optical but does not accept Masshealth. You would have to pay out of pocket. If you want glasses with the Masshealth insurance, you are required to go else where. I wish I would of known ALL this information before hand. I would of NOT even made my appointment with this office. The fact that you have to go different places for glasses and other information needed to order glasses on line, is beyond unacceptable for me. After Jocelyn handle my call, I really doubt that I'll be going back to this office for any reason at all. Bottom line is if you have Masshealth and require glasses, DO NOT GO to this office. And to make things worse, I honestly believe my prescription is totally wrong. I've tried using the glasses I finally got from some other establishment, with the prescription I was given here and just not working for me. Never used them at all. Due to having such a bad experience, I never bother to go back to get it fix, I'm still using my old glasses with no problem at all. Currently looking to get a new eye exam.
Kelly Cote: Everyone is really nice, Dr. Symolon is very friendly and professional. Just be prepared to wait, they're usually running behind.
profepte: Fui a revisar a mi hija sus ojos. Buen servicio.
Honor Takorian: Dr Berger and his staff are very knowledgeable, personable, professional and qualified. My cataract surgery was a "clear" success...thanks to them.
Alex H: I have had nothing but a wonderful experience here. My whole family comes to this office and we all get treated kindly. The doctor will come in and engage with my kids and ask them the question instead of me, I find that amazing that they take that time to hear what the kids have to say. Only after they are done the doctor will ask if I have anything to add or concerns. I find they take time time to explain what needs to be and anything at home we can do to help with eye care. I could t be happier with this office.
Mrs J: I happen to be in the glasses shop the other day (12/13/22) when one of the workers was helping a young man who was there picking up his glasses. I dont usually post reviews but felt I needed too this time. My experience is worth sharing. The young man that was there before me left and was really happy he could see so well and thanked the lady who was helping him. He left the store but then came right back because he noticed something on his lens when he went outside. I saw him actually throw the glasses on the table of the lady who he picked his glasses up from, right in front of her next client, and interrupted the conversation she was having with her. The other woman in the glasses shop who was just starting to help me heard what was happening and asked if it was ok if she could talk to him for a moment. I was in no hurry so it was fine with me. It was very busy in the shop with other people now waiting to be helped as well and there were only 2 opticians (?) working at the time. (I found out later they have been very understaffed like so many businesses right now.) She was extremely kind and professional when speaking with him and apologized that they did not see any imperfections when they first checked his glasses but she would look at them again to see if they missed anything. He insisted something was definitely wrong and she took them somewhere out back to looked at them under some special light to try to find what he was seeing and was then able to find some sort of defect. He was not happy having to come back but she reassured him that they would take care of him and let him take the glasses home with him to use until his replacements came in. To me, that is really great customer service. I work in retail with custom jewelry and know that some things can get missed by the naked eye and defects can happen that can't be found easily. We cant let someone take their piece if something needs to be remade because our vendors need the product back when having to change something. That tells me they are getting him a whole new pair and not just part of the glasses. Customer service is the most important thing to me when I shop anywhere because of what I do and seeing first hand how a problem situation is handled followed by the best experience I have ever had being fit for glasses (I've been wearing for 40 something years) I will definitely be back next year for my next pair. I will also be sending all my family to the optical shop at Baystate Eye Care. I am a longtime patient of another doctor's office in Springfield that also has and optical shop but Baystate will be my place for glasses from now on. My coworker actually recommended Baystate and I'm glad I listened. I hope whoever owns this shop knows how good those ladies are. They are worth the wait if they are busy, and were just as kind to one person as they were to the next. As a person of color myself, I make it a point to observe this sort of thing and can tell you I was 100% comfortable and satisfied that this was a place that caters to everyone no matter what they look like.
Ana Valentin: I was hoping to give no stars. Dr.Seefield was the worst doctor for my daughter she is 11 but when she was 4 she was always a tall kid and she was afraid so the dam doctor if you can call him that told her if you hit me you'll see what's going to happen and he shut up because I told him she is only 4 if you can read and if you touch her you'll end up with out a hand. After that I left with my kid they send a check to my house and wrote on a letter she has an appointment for next year. Never went back there again
Candy Rivera: Horrible servicePoor communicationDidn't even take measurements when I placed ordered.
Wayne Enterprise: I bring both of my grandparents here for eye checkup, first time was a bit disappointing, but the second time was even worst. The doctors are extremely rude especially to people who may not be fluent in English. I have witnessed major differences in friendliness and demeanor toward non-English speaker and English speaker. We were treated as if we're lesser than others, I was told to stand back while I am trying to explain to Dr. Symolon that I was the interpreter. He then raised his shoulder up and down while looking at his screen dismissively. Throughout this encounter, I was cooperative and professional. I have been to other doctor offices, and this one by far was the worst. Prejudicial and unprofessional doctors. Matter of fact, we were referred here by friends, great reputation, but it was a let down. Even if these doctors were decent at what they do, but since when skills overshadow professionalism? patient-friendly care? decency?Other staffs were professional, accommodating, helpful, and polite. But, I highly suggest these doctors to be re-train and read up on code of ethics and primary source/controlled studies on prejudices, discrimination in medicine.
Bob Stewart: Totally impressed with Dr. Bouvier! He took the time at a routine checkup to find an issue that needed immediate attention and got it taken care of right away. Many thanks!
Camille Taylor: NEVER EVER GO TO THIS EYE PLACE THEY WILL GIVE YOU THE RING AROUND ESPECIALLY THE LADY AT THE FRONT DESK NAMED JENNIFER!! JENNIER WASTED MY TIME AND MADE ME WAIT 4 HOURS. AND SHE WILL NEVER CALL YOU BACK! THEY ARE RUDE AND DO NOT CARE ABOUT ANYONE THAT WALKS THROUGH THAT DOOR! THEY ONLY SEE HARD WORKING PEOPLE AS ‘$$$’ NEVER GO HERE, THEY HAVE NO PROFESSIONAL! ESPECIALLY THE WOMEN AT THE FRONT DESK NAMED JENNIFER!
Jessibeth Rodriguez: Everyone was so friendly and knowledgeable. They take masshealth for the eye exam but not at the optical shop ,which was fine because they have great bundle prices . Most definitely would recommend Baystate eye care!
Mark Chapin: Made my 1st visit today and had Dr. Symolon as my ophthalmologist. He was wonderful. Very friendly, answered all of my questions, patient. Everything you could want from a doctor. The technicians were wonderful as well. A smooth process! Would recommend to anyone.
Kenneth Lambert: Went here when I had to infections in my eye doctor was very nice polite as well as all the staff very understanding on my needs and works very well to get me back to full health can't thank them enough
Ashley Cabana: Bay State Eye CareDo you want qualityBay State Eye Care is a place to go with a very caring doctor
Nik Nik: Theee worst eye care establishment ever in life...very slow pace ...dont get seen until a hour and a half after appointment time rude and lazy staff. They will book 30 people for the day and only see 10 ...i highly recommend ANY EYE CARE ESTABLISHMENT OTHER THAN THIS PLACE.
Richard Chavez: Left a message with the answering service and two subsequent messages with no return call. My main ophthalmologist referred me there for a specific procedure, and they couldn't be bothered. The staff is atrocious.
Crafty Marre: *********** WARNING ************the doctor was so rude to me and my daughter ,when she was just scared because it was her first time getting drops in her eye. He told me" way to go mom " in a sarcastic manner I was discussed. I cancelled my next appointment won't be returning to that dark place .
Danielle Marquez: The doctor was extremely unprofessional, he was very rough with my 5 year old, pretty much roughly prying his eyes open for drops. My son was nervous and the doctor yelled at him telling him "you are wasting my time, I have other things to do " he was huffing and puffing at my child and was so inconvenienced that he just wrote us a prescription and pretty much kicked us out of the appointment. The fact that a professional doctor so very rudely spoke to a child like that was disgusting, I absolutely would never recommend this place.
Sarah Paier: I took my 3 and 5 year old daughters today “, we did eye exams after they failed their eye exam at their physical. Based on a lot of the reviews i wasn’t going to go here but i know two families who take their kiddos here and love it. The dr wasn’t overly friendly and was fast paced - which i appreciated as we had both their exams at the same time . He did interact with the girls so they weren’t scared of him and was making Donald Duck sounds which made them laugh. I will be going back here when the girls need another check up. No complaints!
Sergio Figueiredo: Dr. Seefeld was great and helped calm my nerves when we found out that my child needed glasses. The staff in the front officer was great as well.

Dr. William C. Seefeld, MD: what do users think?
min: I would have given him ZERO stars if I could. He was the most impatient, dead rude, and snobby doctor I ever encountered. His demeanor was so mortifying in front of my child, the humiliation and embarrassment was unbelievable. It sucks there are not many eye doctors in MA. But if I have to, even tho I live close to Springfield, I would drive all the way to Boston JUST TO AVOID THIS RUDE SNOBBY OLDMAN who calls himself a health care professional but lacks proper human communication in every single way.
Mildred Sanchez: All I have to say is STAY AWAY! Rude staff starting with Dr. Seedeld. Went twice, 1st time I thought they were just having a hard day, 2nd time he's yelling at me because my son's eyes are getting worse and why he's not wearing glasses. He never told me he needed them and never gave me a prescription. Also there was another special needs child there that he refused to see because the child was yelling. He told the parents to go see another doctor. They didn't speak English but they were there with a case manager. I do not expect the royal treatment but at least some respect specially when dealing with special needs children.
Mary Morgan: I had a very difficult first experience taking my one year old to her first appointment with Dr. Seefeld. We had a very long wait in the waiting room and it made for a very grumpy baby. But, my daughter just had her eye procedure this week and I am SO impressed with the care we received. Dr Seefeld is amazing! I felt so comfortable, I had no unanswered questions, and Dr Seefeld just took such good care of my baby girl. He is a great doctor and fantastic at what he does. Highly recommend him!
Serena Sheffield: DO NOT bring your child to this office. He is the most impatient doctor I have ever dealt with. He make it seems like your bothering him by bringing you child there for medical help. Very impatient with young child. Please find a different office to bring your child too. Very rude and no bedside manner at all. Was holding my 1.5 year old head very hard and forcing her eyelids open because she wont cooperate. And then ask me was she always like this. He needs to understand the cognitive development of an almost 2 year old and how they behave.
Sarah Morton: I am so happy with Dr. Seefeld. He took the time needed to get my daughter the correct prescription. It was great listening to her exclaiming excitedly on the drive home after getting her new glasses, "Mommy the trees have leaves. The're not blobs. Look how pretty they are."
Big L. Diesel (bigldiesel): My wife went to this POS with our three-year-old daughter. He ripped her "blanket" out of her hand, when it was time to examine her. This caused her to become upset and unruly. He scoffed at my wife, "Is she always this good?"" He's lucky I wasn't there.
eli perez: Great staff
Mohammad Owais: I absolutely agree with min. I give him ZERO stars. Stay away from this doctor. You will be impressed how the most impatient, dead rude, and snobby he is. I do prefer to drive hours JUST TO AVOID HIM. Do not ever take your child to this guy.
Joseph Ryan: They don't answer phone or return calls. Impossible to make appointment. Could not be more disappointed
jessica serrano: This doctor was rude and mean.didnt like him trying to find another good dr for my son who has autism.
Heather Shapiro: Waste of time! I had to reschedule an appointment that the office cancelled on me because of the snow storm (fine and understandable ) but when I tried calling back to reschedule it took me two days! Phone service is terrible and receptionist had zero personality. I decided to just try them because my insurance referred me to them and it was local. When we arrived to the office the receptionist ignored my son and I for a minute as they were laughing and chatting (meanwhile another gentleman walked in and was waiting). I ended up saying “Hi I’m here for my sons appointment” and just interrupted them because my four year old son wasn’t happy about waiting. The receptionist (didn’t have a name tag but did have a binder clip closing her cardigan closed) was rude and I could barely understand what she was saying. Then she asked what insurance I had. When I told her she said “No,actually it’s xyz!” So I said “Okay then why would you ask me if you knew more than I did?” She said “It’s okay, you’ll get a notice in the mail soon about it!” Ummm okay?? Then she told me to have a seat. Two seconds later the nurse came out and brought us in the room (no complaints she was very nice and took her time with my son who has special needs and I was worked up from the nasty front desk experience!) During the office visit the nurse had to go get new patient paperwork which reception failed to give me so now dealing with a tired, four year old while holding our coats and filling out paperwork in the waiting room was fun! Doctor Seefeld was ok but seemed very rushed although he did get my son to laugh and focus! Lol I understand doctors are very busy and do the best they can and if I had to work with the front desk that he does I probably would be a lot less patient! We were sent to the waiting area while my sons eyes were dilating and a staff memeber was eating something with very powerful onions! Sounds silly to mention but just an added thing that turned my stomach about the office. Do they not have a lunch room? Are they not allowed lunch breaks?? Is there an office manager?? The exam rooms are very out dated! At check out the receptionist didn’t have much of a personality and was like a robot . When leaving I felt frustrated and disappointed then overheard the receptionist explain where the bathroom was to another mom with a small child and again she was rude and the mom couldn’t understand her so I felt a little better!! We plan on changing offices but felt the need to warn any parent who is looking for a comfortable, welcoming office with staff memebers who enjoy seeing patients to STAY AWAY!! I honestly got home and felt like I wasted two hours of my day!
Jedi Bock: Very knowledgeable. Happy with son's blocked tear duct surgery when he was 2 yrs old. 3 stars because of personality. Dr. seefeld was not very patient with my autisic son. Has a very dry, professional demeener. One would think he would have more of a pleasent & fun personality working with children. Great doctor for fixing vision problems, avoid if you're looking for a more down to earth, sense of humor kind of doctor.
D Solovey: Impossible to reach. I'm not sure if the office is still open. Answering system is ridiculous; you barely have time to press "4" for Dr Seefield before it kicks you to "unmonitored voicemail". But wait there's more! Once you learn to dial "4" before super slow "hello, you have reached..." answers your call - you get transferred to copy/paste prompts for Dr's "team". You need to press 4 again for appointment line, but NO, you are NOT going to hear human on the other line, nor will they call you back within 1 freaking business week!!!!! Or EVER!! I'm speechless! How... no, WHY do you even have a medical practice like this? Bay State, what a joke!
Stephanie W: An ok place to go. Dr. Seefield is good with kids the receptionists are good except a few are lazy and rude.
Bethzaida Garcia-Cortes: Excellent doctor. Love how he treat my kids. I will recommend him to every parents.
Juan Hernandez: Outstanding Doctor! My family and I are so pleased with the treatment my son with lazy eye received. The doctor exercised every option in order to avoid surgery ( 1-3 year period) When all other options were practiced then at my request he operated. Glad to say the procedure, recovery, and follow up services were awesome. My son's surgery outcome is fabulous!!! You could never tell he had a lazy eye issue.

Cataract & Laser Center West: what do users think?
Aileen Castillo: Had a very positive experience, I took my mother for laser surgery today. Meghan the medical assistant was so helpful due to my mother was extremely nervous she explained to us the procedure which in terms made moms feel less nervous..She listened to our concerns, Thank you so very much Meghan for doing an exceptional job.. Keep up the great work that you are doing! Dr. Shatz was very patient with my mother and this help put my mother at 😌 ease... Thank you so much for providing such good care!
Patricia Boynton: Excellent care - friendly, professional staff - everyone! And I can now see because of my cataract surgery by Dr. Bouvier.
Debi Reuter: Went for my 1st surgery on 8/24. The people who work there were awesome. Kind and caring, made my time there relaxing.
Timothy Flouton: Very unprofessional, they waited to the last minute to set the surgery appt. than one hour before surgery they called and cancelled. they seem to care about themselves not the patient .
Paul Gaudio: Dr Shield is the best doctor! He listens to me, does a super careful exam, and gives me an explanation that I can understand. No mumbojumbo medical jargon. And he did surgery and it went terrific. I recommend him totally all the way.
Daniel Lopes: Left eye done, Right eye on the 28th of July
Mary Breen: Cataract Surgery Procedure at the Cataract & Laser Center WestMy first cataract surgery was on my right eye 7/8/2021 and second surgery on my left eye one week later. I was extremely nervous going into this surgery. From the time I walked through the door until I left. Everyone from the receptionist, to the nursing staff, to the anesthesiologist, and finally to Dr. David Shield treated me with the utmost respect. They all could see how nervous I was and assured me that most patients do experience anxiety and they were all wonderful at calming me down. In fact, by my second surgery a week later I was much calmer and could observe the professional way the staff went about their business. They have a well-oiled routine in place, which is very comforting to the patient. Both surgeries were successful. I just cannot get over how clear my vision is; it is just remarkable. I highly recommend the Cataract & Laser Center West, as they truly do make the patient feel they are a high priority.
Christopher Comer: I've had two cataract procedures here and can say without the slightest reservation that this is a great place to have eye surgery. Very, very professional. Highly recommended.
Madeleine Monat: I recently had cataract surgery at this facility. I could not have asked for a better experience. The staff are very caring. thorough, and efficient. They were all friendly and and very helpful. Great docs to! They really care about the patients, welcome questions, and address concerns. Highly recommend!
Michael Laferriere: Seems like a pleasant place. Very short wait, courteous staff, open WiFi and free coffee!
Kathy Fioroni: Everything went very smooth. The staff was wonderful. Informing me each step of the way. Made casual conversation that kept me from becoming anxious.I had both eyes 5 days apart and each time was was taken and prepped early and in and out of surgery before I knew it. Was sorry to read some dissatisfied patients, ecuase for me it could not have gone smoother.
C. Whitaker Battle: My experience at this business was absolutely horrible. I had a 9:15 AM appointment and did not get admitted until 11:00 AM, I noticed that there were people coming in long after me and were taken into surgery, I inquired as to when my procedure would be done and was told that there were two ahead of me. this would probably put me in surgery at somewhere around 3 or 4 PM. I then asked to see a supervisor to get some explanation as to why I was being passed over, someone whom I assume was the head nurse walked by me several times completely ignoring me, when she did address me she was quite rude. I disrobed and heard her state that I could not leave until I signed a form which in three sentences would absolve the company of any liability as well as being able to bill my insurance company for services not rendered. I can truthfully say I would not recommend this company to anyone. Especially if you are of color.
Dan Walsh: This place was horrible. Got there at 11:45 sill here with no explanation after 4:00. Guess they don't know how to text or call. Very unprofessional.
George Castonguay: I had the distinct pleasure of visiting the center for cataract surgery on my right eye on August 30, 2016. The office is nice, the staff wonderful and the procedure went fine. I will be going back again next week for my second eye. I highly recommend them and my doctor, Dr. Balin.
