Central Rock Gym: what do users think?
Nic L: My home away from home. Just awesome, come see for yourself.
Eugene D: Great place, the staff are polite, nice and helpful. They taught us how to rock climb first time no problem. There are 3 waivers you must complete before you climb, you can do these at home before visiting CRG.There are maybe 20 or so bouldering routes, maybe 10 or so auto-belay lines, and another 20 or so belay climbs. The fitness room area upstairs was disappointing. Out of maybe 8 or so treadmills only 1 was working. Wish they would update those machines for when you want a break from climbing. There are lockers to lockup your stuff with your own lock. There are also cubbies out in front where you can store your stuff, according to staff no one steals here, so you should be safe. There are showers in the locker room.
Holly Lynn: If I could give CRG 6 stars I would, and I really should since this review is almost a week late. I walked in last Friday to ask about the chance to take a lesson or learn privately with an instructor. I know how to belay (I work at a camp which has a top rope three-faced wall, bouldering, and multiple high rope elements) but I have (HAD!) a mental block and a fear of climbing. Elayne (who I later learned is the General Manager happened to be standing at the desk when I walked in and was very sympathetic to my plight. She answered all of my questions, worked with my schedule (I'm not from the area and was only visiting for the weekend), and then booked me a session with her for the holiday Monday before I left for home.To say that this lesson was lifechanging would be an understatement. I walked in with some apprehension, but after meeting Elayne several days prior it felt much less than I had anticipated. I got geared up (with the gym's rentals since I had forgotten to bring my own harness and had never used climbing shoes before) and we were off to check off my knot tying and belay skills. That was reassuring because even though I fumbled my first re-trace figure eight (nerves, OK!?) Elayne remained understanding, calming, and kind. Then it was time to climb and I can only say that the rest of the experience was empowering. We spent an hour focusing on fundamentals, falling, and technical aspects that all truly made me feel inspired and excited to keep going. Oh, and sore,...but in the best way!I felt so great that I went climbing the next night at a gym closer to my camp back in NJ,....and I miss CRG and Elayne. For anyone who is nervous, anxious, scared as a beginner climber or going through anything even as experienced climbers I promise that Elayne and CRG will help you.
Michael: Had to reach someone, No way to contact anyone on phone. NOT okay with me as a parent. Heaven forbid an emergency arises no way to reach our son.
Mark Newey: Friendly staff, fun routes, and welcoming to kids. My daughter had a hard time on one of the routes and it took a lot of coaxing to get her to come down. I tried to help her as did a staff member, but when she finally got down in tears and we were walking away the manager came up and rather callously told me in the future not to climb up to help her. Fair point, but poorly delivered and not the right moment.
Scott Stanton: Excellent and friendly staff, regularly set routes and plenty of wall to go around. On top of that, there are fantastic classes for climbing, fitness, and yoga. It can be on the expensive side to start but there are options to help if you need it. I recommend climbing to anyone and everyone and this is a great place to start.
Tommy Peck: Great rock gym, huge selection across difficulties and disciplines. I went bouldering here mostly and they always keep things fresh by changing up the routes. Friendly staff as well!
Dhruvesh Patel: Decent sized indoor climbing gym with weights room, yoga room and stretching area. They have lots of top-ropes, lead lines and bouldering problems. In terms of variety, they have good vertical and overhanging climbs spanning all kinds of holds. There's only one slaby wall for top-rope, which right now has pretty easy routes. The staff is super friendly as well.
Amy Merli: A really great climbing gym! The staff are friendly and helpful. The boulder grades are accessible for beginners and challenging for all levels.
Seth Jackson: UPDATE: this location is setting up both a kilter board AND a tension board. Thanks for listening to the members! They now close at 10 on weekdays and 7pm Saturday and Sunday. I’ve also been seeing more slab sets that are in the mid range of difficulty. In exchange for the awesome new system walls, though, the spray wall has been taken down. Original post: Good setting, softer grades than most gyms I’ve climbed at. (I onsight V7 here consistently and project V6 outside.)Sometimes I come across a V6 that easily feels like a V3-4. I climbed a V9 the other week after three sessions, I could maybe do that on a V6/7 outside. The sport routes are GREAT and challenging. Very consistent and taller 45’ walls. The lead wall is stellar. It models outdoor climbing more than any other gym I’ve been a member of.I wish there was a more mid range slab set and a taller slab wall to practice footwork mobility and balance. They are lacking in this area and in climbs that challenge my technical ability in the mid V5-V8 range. It’s either an easy V1-3 or an impossible V9-10 slab or techy problem. There needs to be a happy medium. I know this is a huge challenge. Bring in some guest setters from NYC or Memphis Rox and do some challenges for the setters! That said, they are accommodating for all ages and skill levels. Kids area up top along with a hard as nails spray wall you can use the “Stōkt” app with on the other side. Open 6am-11pm MWF and 11am-11pm Tuesday and Thursday with shorter weekend hours; usually closing at 7pm.Workout area is underused and has a phenomenal selection.Yoga is offered, I have yet to take a class and do my own flow at home. This gym is EXPENSIVE: you do get access to multiple gyms, but when I am traveling, I am climbing outside, not another gym. I wish they offered a yearly membership at a slight discount or a Hadley only gym price at a lower cost. The 2022 membership monthly price is $89 for one person and $145 for a couple. I believe the student price is $65 a month. This mirrors NYC gym prices and they can do this because they have monopolized the northeast. For the price they are charging they don’t even provide a system wall (Moonboard, tension board, kilter board, grasshopper.) or nearly enough auto belays. even when they have the space for it. I really hope they implement these in the next few years. And I will keep pestering until they do. This is a HUGE value add for climbers that train and would be a huge asset to your comp kids. The other locations have one, why not here in western mass?I had a moonboard provided at my grungy gym that cost me $40 a month back in Tennessee, for reference.I have made countless friends here and it is my home away from home, but this is CRG Hadley warts and all.
Rachel F: The gym itself is fine, but after work hours its always busy and there are way too many kids. The biggest gripe I have with this place is they increased student discount membership prices not once, but twice, without any sort of notification. Went from 55/month to 65/month to 69/month. I understand increasing prices, but without sending a courtesy email about their decision is a terrible business model and goes to show how much this franchise cares about its members.
Russell Lee: Pour over coffee is great, friendly staff as well!
John Jacquinet: Great spot to learn climbing. The staff is helpful and friendly. Super clean and has a full gym.
Pepperonii-Chan: Great place, wish we had a gym this good where I live! Loved the slab wall, just wish it had more routes set :)
Marcos A Amalbert-Birriel: Great and welcoming staff. The facilities are fantastic. There is a friendly environment that motivates you to continue going. You can easily spend a couple of hours if you don't keep track of time.
Michelle Putnam: We had a great experience at Central Rock Gym in Hadley! We booked an hour long climbing session with staff belayer, Ed, for our daughter and her friend. He was fun, patient, and very knowledgeable. We would highly recommend!
Samantha Leahan: Friendly staff, clean gym with constantly updating routes. Offers great variety of challenges for all skill levels. If you plan on going more than once a month, I recommend getting the membership because it can get expensive. They also offer a variety of classes and trainings. I recommend checking out their website to see all they offer!
Ariel Hall: Pretty cool gym. Lots of routes. Only complaint I had was that it smelled like feet. The ventilation was poor compared to other rock gyms I've been to.
Jason Ogasian: Fun climbing and good setting.
Emelyn Chiang: Positive:Professionalism,QualityThis is my favorite of all the CRG locations! This place is huge, has a great lead cave, awesome top roping, and TONS of creative boulders. I appreciate the yoga and fitness classes included with the membership. Love being able to access all their other locations as well!
Nathan Saltz: This gym does so many things right, great square footage, lots of routes, and they set new routes more often tham any other gym I've been to. Only down side is there are so many young kids almost daily, it's distracting for if you want to train. Feels like a Chuck E. Cheese sometimes.

Stone Age Rock Gym: what do users think?
David Godfrey: Fun routes, old school atmosphere, and the kids were having fun too.
Samuel Tellier: Awesome tucked away gym! This place has lots of cool nooks and crannies, fun routes, and friendly + super knowledgeable staff. I've been climbing for years and still learned a bunch here. Pay attention during orientation!
Sahirah Boyd: We had a suuuper large group there and the staff was friendly and professional! They really know their stuff. It was our first experience with indoor rock climbing. What was nice also was the gear was included in our large group price. The children all had fun and they even encouraged the smaller ones to climb. The kids and adults had a fantastic time. They were accommodating to all our needs and very well organized! We will definitely be back. Thanks guys for a great time!!!
Stacy Liu: I would 100% recommend taking an outdoor excursion with Kevin of Stone Age Rock Gym. A trio of us were visiting for fall foliage in late October and booked a half-day trip through the gym's website. We were able to fill out everything online, and Kevin reached out the afternoon before our climbing day to confirm the crag (east facing on Ragged Mountain, so we could be warm!), where we would park/meet, and any pertinent notes.Once there, Kevin had all the gear we needed, packed and ready to go. Harnesses, helmets, ropes, webbing, things I didn't know we needed but he had prepared for safety/security/fun. Then, we had a short approach and voila! A wall with plenty of climbs. Kevin led us up a scramble first to set up our first two top ropes and gave us a chance to rappel back down after we took in the incredible view from the top of Ragged Mountain. We spent the morning climbing a range of 5.6-5.8s, got to say hello to a friendly pup, and learned a lot about crag stewardship in the area. Our trip had a blast, and despite the wasp/bees that we were disturbing, we couldn't have pictured a better day.I'll be making an excuse to visit more often to take advantage of Connecticut's great climbing scene, Kevin's knowledge, and relationship with the local climbing community.
Emily Murphy: Brought my son there for the first time last night for Jr Climbers club, and he loved it! The guys there are very laid back, but also nice and helpful. We're definitely buying a membership... And next time I'm going to climb too 😄
Tony Greenway: I did a half-day guided outdoor experience with Kevin from Stone Age Rock Gym and had a blast. Kevin was extremely knowledgeable, patient, and an excellent teacher. I shared my experience level with him and some of my goals and he catered the selection of routes and such to my abilities. I learned a ton from him. The experience was well worth the time and money. I would definitely do this again if I come back to CT.
Miranda Otto: I had the best experience doing a guided climb with Kevin. It was my first time rock climbing outside and Kevin made me feel safe, was patient with me, and provided me with great tips and knowledge about top roping. I HIGHLY recommend this gym.
Jam Jam: Kevin is awesome! Professionally handled a large, mixed- age group check-in of about 20 individuals. He was patient as we exchanged shoes to find the right fit. He went over safety measures without being a drag. He was attentive and interactive with the patrons, assisting both children and adults. I love that he was encouraging the climbers!Great experience!
Cola Knight: Kevin was amazing! I went with a group of about 20 (13 children) with my ministry and he was very patient with us. He assisted the kids, interacted well and was overall a great host. This is definitely a spot not only will my ministry revisit but a place my family will be back to. Overall a pleasing and awesome experience, thank you!
Meghan Dudas: Not as warm as I thought it would be. Staff was friendly and knowledgeable. I was there for a kids birthday party and the kids had a great time.
Aidan Weeks D'Elia: I can’t say enough for Stone Age! We held my son’s 3rd birthday here and although he was the youngest in the group he still had a ball! Kevin and his team made sure all of the kids (3-11) and adults were safe and enjoying themselves. I really don’t know if the kids or the adults had more fun! Whether they were climbing or watching, everyone felt included, the staff was friendly & sociable, and no one wanted to leave! Each kid has asked to go back and climb again, and a couple are considering the summer camp! Thank you, Stone Age, for a birthday party that is going in the history books! We’ll see you for birthday #4! =)
Jonathon Drasdis: Great ezperience.
calvin campbell: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,Value
Wes Crim: Great employees and ownership, always putting up great new routes
Brian Hoskins: Absolutely one of the best rock gyms I have ever visited. It was easily one of the best lessons on climbing I have ever received and the atmosphere is exceedingly welcoming. I would encourage everyone interested in climbing to come here, even if you're just passing through town.
Mr. Lee: Brought the whole family and we all had a blast. Very clean facility for these crazy times. Staff is amazing and so is the gym. Thanks for the great memories ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Moss Trestman: Great gym with fun routes and knowledgeable staff. An easy recommendation.
Jevon Gibb: Nice staff, but way too small. Unless this is closer than alternatives and distance is your deciding factor, you have a better alternative.
Andrew: Amazing gym! Great community as well, everyone is very friendly
George Crawford: Been climbing here on and off for a few years now, and it is always a pleasant experience. The owners are both kind, knowledgeable, and accommodating. New routes of varying grades are set frequently. The patrons are of a genial sort; always willing to offer advice. Whether you are a serious climber or just looking for a novel and fun way to workout, I highly recommend you give Stone Age a try.
Butch Goodwin: Didn't like the. Place at all,. Small and the courses we're not laid out right at all.
