This Old Clock Shop: what do users think?
Frank Natale: Joe Tortorelli is FABULOUS! I inherited 2 clocks recently - a 110+ year old grandfather clock and a 60+ year old vintage German Cuckoo Clock. Both have been in my family for generations. I managed to get them home and "working" ... sort of. But they both stopped and I knew I needed help. I called Joe and he picked right up on my first call. We chatted and he offered to come out SAME DAY for a "house call" to fix them so I could enjoy them for the Holidays. Joe came in a sleet storm and got both of the clocks "purring" along very nicely. He was prompt, professional, courteous and very knowledgeable. His love and passion for clocks was clear and his human kindness was a breath of "fresh air" in today's climate. Other shops never returned my calls and "couldn't be troubled." I am so deeply grateful to Joe that I found him. These clocks mean the world to me from a sentimental perspective and Joe truly understands that. The Cuckoo still needs a "tune up" and I will be bringing that to Joe after the Holidays. We have been up and running and JOYFUL now for almost a week ... I LOVE hearing the "tick tock" and the "chimes" from different corners of my home. As a business owner myself, I also understand how important positive feedback is - especially online. So, here, a current review of current circumstances in 2022/2023. I would highly recommend This Old Clock Shop!
Charleen DeLuca: My parents recently brought a mantle clock to this business due to it not working. After being charged what I thought was an outrageous price, they took it home only to find out the following day that it was not keeping time. That day my mother and I went back to ask the owner for our money back seeing as he didn't perform the service that they paid for. Other than being rude saying that my mother might be forgetful due to her age and not winding correctly, he looked at the clock out on the sidewalk on top of a trash receptacle. WOW.... Great way to run a business.
Thomas Sanglier: I took in a special piece, a piece of art that actually was a brushed steel pendulum clock. The store called and informed me that the pendulum was too heavy and therefore the clock movements would wear out frequently. They offered to cut the pendulum to reduce weight. I said "no", as I did not want the aesthetics of the clock ruined. I asked them to stop, at which point they said they had already fixed the movements. Again I said, "stop", do not do anything to the pendulum. I will simply use the clock but not let the pendulum move. I did not want the beauty of the clock destroyed simply to have the pendulum move. When I showed up, I was given my brushed steel clock with a ugly brass pendulum. When I asked about the original pendulum, they had in fact cut it (destroyed it really) so that the aesthetics are now destroyed. Bottom-line, they will repair your clock, but have no sense of beauty. It would be like taking in a Porsche for repair, and getting it back with different colored doors from a Mazda with the proud explanation that the doors now work so what is the problem.

Lise Linthicum: Great customer service. My precious cuckoo clock was repaired and completed on time!I would definitely have them repair my other clocks if and when necessary.
Andy Kelly: Great old school clock repair shop, a lost art still in practice so the turnaround time may be long depending on work backlog.

Scott Craig: We had a wall clock repaired... reasonable and fast...fun place to visit if you like clocks
crystal snow: Brought my large German Chalet Cuckoo clock in for repair - broken wire and to check movement, music etc. It has been working perfectly since. In this day and age it is hard to come by tradesmen still offering this type of service. I am very fortunate I am a local resident. And I can definitely attest to the fact that when they say they are backlogged with work, they are not kidding. Anytime you visit you can see a stack of clocks needing repairs. This is a very unique line of work and very few and far between people offering this service. If you want quality work from dedicated people, here they are. Just be aware they have alot on their plates and you will need to have some patience, and appreciation.

I can't wait to put it on my mantel.
david peabody: I brought them a broken heirloom grandmother clock... It was not keeping time and the chimes were all wrong. Carol and Bob RESSURECTED this clock. It needed everything. Steeplechase Clock: what do users think?
faushizzle: If you want someone who loves clocks to take care of your clock, you should take it to Brad. I had a rare, beautiful early 17th century Swiss clock destroyed in shipping. Not only did Brad take it apart, salvage what he could, and put it back together, but he put assembled both the wood case and movement and had it running beautifully. He charged a very fair price and the service was outstanding. I am from Connecticut but Steeplechase is the only place I would consider for future clock repairs.
Abigail Bryant: Brad is excellent and extremely knowledgeable. Took the time to explain what was wrong with my clock and fixed it before the date he said it would be done. Very happy with his workmanship and quality! I will go to him the next time I need a clock repaired.
Johnny Antkowiak: Positive:Responsiveness,ValueI had a motor driven mechanical timer for a 50's vintage GE oven, which needed a replacement gear. Brad was able to modify a spare he had which got the timer working. He gave my small one-of job his attention and at more than fair cost. Thank you.
Paul Harris: I bought an antique mantel clock on E Bay which did not work. Brad made a thorough assessment and recommended several viable alternatives. The clock still has its original face and hands but now has new works and keeps perfect time. This is the go-to place in New England for expert clock advice and repairs.
Dana McClelland: I would recommend this place to any clock lover who needs their precious clock repaired . He really cares about your clock and does his best to repair it. If you can't bring the clock to him, (grandfather clock), he Will come to you.
Liam Lyons: My experience was a very postitive one. I found Bradford to be very knowledgable and the work was done in a timely manner. I would highly recommend steeplechase.

Hills Antique Clocks: what do users think?
Lee Vorderer: I've used Hills Antique Clocks for years to work on my old clocks. This time, on behalf of the Bedford Historical Society, I took Richard a 1920's banjo clock that was given to the Society to clean up and repair. The Society has just moved into a new space and we wanted this clock to function there and be a focal point. Richard did wonderful work. In additional to cleaning and reconditioning it, he had the beautiful reverse painting on the door restored, and our clock now shines...and it keeps good time, too. The Bedford Historical Society is delighted with Richard Hill's commitment to our clock and to its being in the very best condition it can be. We thank him.Lee Vorderer, Clerk, Bedford historical Society.
Shawn Connors: Great store and talented Professional staff.
Michael Noonan: Paid 150.00 to find out my grandfather clock was broken.i was told that new parts were not available. It took me 5 minutes to find the clockworks.fixed it myself.
Casey Kelly: We purchased an Ansonia Dial calendar clock (circa 1900) for our home and we’re extremely pleased with the service. We had never bought an antique clock before, but the owner was very knowledgeable and took the time to help us find the right size and style for our living room. They provided accurate cost and time estimates, and even sent us photos and videos to look back on for maintenance. Would highly recommend!
Nancy McWilliams: Took 2 months to evaluate my clock and then said he could not do the work. It took several months to get a call back initally andhewas annoyed when I said this.
Sean Geary: Was unable to personally pick up my clock and Richard made a video detailing it's operation. Thank you!
SG: We've gotten one click repaired and purchased a beautiful Boston ship's strike clock at Hill's. The work does take time, but Richard is very upfront about what to expect. The repaired clock looked great after he worked on it. It had a metal glass case that had fallen apart. He repaired the metal frame and even recreated a lost metal finial on the top of the case. The clock we purchased was an antique tandem wind, ship's strike clock. Its bell started to sound a little dull and I asked him about it. He looked it over and decided to check over and clean the entire mechanism - all under his warranty. His work is high quality and he is very knowledgeable. I highly recommend him for repairs and purchases.
Ed Harrow: Well, let us just say, in the intervening 2 years and a bit, my opinion has changed., and not for the better.I wrote Richard two months ago - no response. The Ship's Bell clock stopped in January. The Deck clock, even after a second sojurn at his shop, lost time at the rate of ~17 minutes/week. I brought it to Chelsea... Photos of their findings.“I am so bethumped for words I know not what to say.”Suffice it to say that I did remove the works of the Deck Clock, under the direction of Chelsea Clock, as the case, face, and hands, painted with radium, remain ‘too hot’ by OSHA standards for Chelsea to allow them into their facility. I did not, as stated, remove the works prior to returning the clock to Hill’s, I did that after the clocks second tenure at Hill’s, so that Chelsea would service it.I’m in the phone book.
Jim: Rick Hills, owner, is personable, patient, and has an encyclopedic knowledge of antique clocks -- desk, nautical, mantel, banjo, and grandfather clocks. His store is a wonder of 18th, 19th, and early 20th century "high tech" with much gentle ticking, and then ringing and gonging on the hour. I bought a beautiful late-18th Century Grandfather clock from Hills and it has been completely restored, keeps perfect time, and will stand proudly in my front hall, now and for generations to come. Hills Antique Clock Shop is a treasure, and an excellent find.
Pete Schimmel: My 120 year old, French mantle clock worked sporadically for years then finally stopped working. I brought it to Hills' repair shop and had it completely serviced: dismantled, cleaned and lubricated. The clock has been running constantly for several months now and is keeping excellent time! The only negative is that I was without the clock for over three months as Mr. Hills shop is extremely busy. Very pleased to have my old clock running "tip-top" once again!
Robert Chandlee: The antique tall case clock purchased at auction in the Boston area needed repairs and restoration. I was referred to Hills Antique Clocks. I called Richard Hills after a review of his web site suggested he would know what to do. Rick went to the location where the clock was and called to tell me what work was needed, and his quote was reasonable. Rick moved the clock to his shop and kept me informed of his progress. He even sent photos to document the stages of repair. When the work was complete, my conflict prevented a timely transport to my location almost 1000 miles away. Rick kindly kept the clock at his shop until I was able to arrange the move. My entire experience was excellent. Rick was always professional and kind. Since our interactions had to be via phone, I greatly appreciated that Rick took the time to answer my questions. When the clock arrived and was set up, it worked perfectly and looked magnificent. I am grateful to Rick for taking full responsibility and doing exactly what he said. I am happy to give my strongest recommendation.
Raymond Pace: First Jorgensen clock Tim repaired experienced a broken mainspring pall within 2 years. Second Chelsea was returned with the half hour arm improperly engaged. Unfortunately I dropped the third clock off that same day. Third clock also did not run when returned to me. I immediately returned it to him. The final verdict was it’s not repairable after I paid him for the repair. I learned my lesson and will send the Chelsea back to them for repair and chalk up Tim’s charges as a loss. Now repair clocks take up to a year. When I called after COVID in February, a year later, about the last clock repair. Tom told me he needed a couple more weeks which was more than reasonable. I was to get a call back. Left a message in July after no call back. Wife called and told me she called in December. Not true. She was totally impolite (deplorable) and hung up on me. Glad not to have to deal with her ever again. There was no December call when I looked at my phone records. I do have the February phone record.
patricia carnegie: I brought a small cottage clock to Mr. Hill. It needed the hands to be reattached and realigned! He did it on the spot, as I waited.. I have had several clocks repaired and have purchased another wall clock. Mr. Hill's service is reasonable and thorough. I would never deal with any other clock repair. He is extremely personable and always explains any clock idiosyncracies! Just the best!
Sarah McGowan: Purchased a 19th century French baker's clock. Clock is gorgeous and price was great. Professional service, owner answered all my questions and made sure it was in excellent condition. We're hanging it up in library/den with his instructions. Love the video they created to show us how to wind it and keep it running! Highly recommend if you're looking for a timeless antique to add to your home!
David Abbot: Richard Hills is a great talent in the world of antique clocks. Hard to find in the 21st century.
Jacques Shellac: High end clock shop, with prices ranging from a few hundred to several thousand dollars. Some of the offerings are of exceptionally high quality and rarity, and most are in pristine condition for their age. The owner is knowledgeable about his clocks, accommodating and quite helpful. Very happy with my own purchase. This is the best place to go for a serious collector who wants to make a high quality clock purchase, or for properly done maintenance and repair work.
Larry Swanson: Very professional, excellent work and service.Highly recommend for all antique clock service.
Steven Palmer: Great and trusted service. I recommend.
Ed Dennison: Knowledgeable clock repair.
David Dansereau: We brought a old clock that needed repair to just about everything, mechanism, case, glass.. we wanted to repair it but keep its character. After a horrible experience with a local “out of my house” guy we made the drive to Hills. We could not be more happy with the way it came out. The owner has a nice shop, was extremely nice, honest, and helpful. Price was fair and he was done a month earlier then he said he would. Clock works great and the repairs he did to the case and overall clock was perfect while keeping the character of the clock. Every clock place we searched only did the mechanism but Hills does it all. Overall great experience. Even if you live a little far away (we are about hour and half away) it’s well worth the drive. Hopefully my wife does not buy anymore clocks, haha but if she does we will return to Hills. Highly recommended.
John Houlihan: Repaired Grandma's clock. Nice to have it running again!
