A Arena & Sons Inc: what do users think?
Barb Beyer: It is a slaughterhouse after all.
Chris Mahoney: Wow, wish I found this place sooner. The quality of the meat, chicken and pork is so much better than supermarkets. Small business as well. Highly recommend
MrDandaman137: I never gave anyone 5 stars, but this place made me look like a pro. Best prime rib cut I ever had, they just got a new fan who's going back for more. Shout out to the lovely lady who took such attention to what I asked for and made it perfect for me to shine in my kitchen. Merry Christmas!
Rob Silva: Best marinated steak tips in the area! Joanne is great and super helpful with any questions you have. Love the ground beef also. Hidden gem right here in Hopkinton
George Thomas: Have used these people 3 times, and love them. Gave me my meat when promised. They did a great job butchering also.A little pricey, but what isnt today.Love Them a dying profession.
Erik: Met with the friendly staff and they expertly advised, then cut some great looking steaks on site. I was pumped walking out with 5 thick bone-in ribeyes for the 'que, tossed them in the fridge and dreamed of the deliciousness that would follow. Next day it was salt, pepper, and on the grill, everything seemed on track. At the flip, a disturbing smell emanated, but I thought it would sear off or the grill had an old meat chunk stuck somewhere. Pulled off the steaks mins later, and they smelled undescribably FOUL. For context: I've worked in medical pathology for 20+ years and had a steaming whiff of every nightmarish goo, jelly, gas, and fetid fluid a diseased human or corpse can produce, but this smell is one of the few that have made me gag. Called up A Arena, to warn them, but they denied anything like that ever happening before and seemed to brush it off. Not sure what went wrong here, but it hurts my heart to pay $100 for delicious beef, and get traumatized by the smell instead. When/if I can find the resolve to grill steak again, I will get it elsewhere.
J.: love that I stopped in! Melanie is still awesome, got some great sausage and visited the Chicken's! Local butcher can't beat that :) thanks A. Arena & Son Inc., recommend you stop in
Theresa Casey: I dropped off a nice buck at A Arena butchering late November. The butcher I would usually use could not accommodate my schedule as I was heading out of town. When I picked up my deer which I had requested having the head caped for mounting one of the tines was broken off rendering it useless This was not disclosed. I was missing at least 20# of meat and the packaging and cutting was not good. Had to vacuum everything as the wrapping was compromised. All of the steak had to be ground into burger as it was just random cuts thrown together in a bag.I also witnessed at least 20+deer thrown on the floor in a processing room Very sad sight.Nice people probably in over their head.
Devon: We love having Arena & Sons here in our neighborhood, so convenient, a real hometown feel with great people and product. This is the kind of place we were looking forward to when moving out of the city! The steak tips are amazing (house is gluten free!), and there are marinated chicken wings, too. The steaks are great and there are always eggs, milk and some fresh veggies. Prices are great for the quality, compared to the alternatives in the area.
John Coutinho: A Arena & Sons is a hidden gem in Hopkinton. A place to get fresh custom cuts of meat even on Sundays. Just like the local butcher shops of the old days one is greeted and treated like family.I can't say enough about the awesome quality and service I get from Joanne at our local butcher shop.
Scott B: I have had multiple deer processed here. The people are super nice, and its great to have a place that will butcher the meat for you. Having said that, and after taking recent deer to a different place, I now know how much better thigs can be done. Arena's packaging is quite poor, so meat leaks through paper, markings bleed, silver-skin and fat is common, ground meat is rough but OK, , "sausage" ground has large chunks of meat and need s to be re-ground once or twice to get to the consistency I would like / expect. I don't know if they combine deer when grinding meat. Maybe they get overwhelmed in deer season, as I've seen 20+ deer there at at time. ( on the floor.) At least one hunter forum I read had multiple entries that echo this sentiment.
Paul Ostrander: A Arena & Sons have a great variety of items available. They have full size brisket (point & flat) available, pork shoulder, and other fantastic items for BBQing. They also have several items ready items ready to cook in their display case. There quality is great and the staff is very helpful with finding a cut of meat that fits your family. I picked up a full brisket from their store and it turned out fantastic. The trimmings are great for sausages & other recipes too. Some people might say the trimmings are too much, but they allow a cook to determine the amount of fat they want on their particular cook - very nice touch.
ack cj: Had a deer processed here and it was not done well. Chunks of meat thrown in ziplock bags with tons of air and silver skin. Very sloppy job
Paul LaRoche: I dropped my deer off and it was ready two day early! The meat looks great! No complaints here!
Eugene Grinberg: I brought a deer to o butcher. First of all the packaging was lousy. Zip plastic bags , which are not closed properly wrapped in a wax paper. The ink from the stamps leaked into the meat, so I had to cut some meat when I was vacuum sealing it at home. Secondly, THEY STOLE SOME MEAT! Returned only one tenderloin! And they charge $120!
Keith Snook: Hate to do this but my pig meat is terrible. The smoked product's don't seemed smoked taste is horrible. The meat has a funny smell to it and so much fat. I brought 2 pigs down and they only got fed grain and veggies no trash. This isn't my first time having pigs slaughtered. I had to throw out all my smoke stuff. I was hoping for a better experience she was so nice to deal with and price was good! I didn't get back some things I ordered too!
Kerry Choquette: As a slaughterhouse they suck. I had 2 pigs slaughtered there. They skimmed almost half of the meat for themselves. When I called they told me they misplaced some of my order. And out of two pigs each 200lbs hanging weight only yielded 20 lbs of bacon? Give me a break. Don’t trust these people with your livestock. This was the first time I’ve used them and it is my last. I miss Stearns in Charlton.
eric mckenzie: Incredible steak.
Samuel Woodson: Fantastic meats and great people. Try the steak tips! If you don't see something you're looking for they usually custom cut it for you.
Jake G: Freshest meat I've ever had. Consistently the best.
Rick Boo Hill (Boodles): Fresh poultry, beef, pork, and eggs.
