Karl Stratos: The best part about this place is the convenience. The food comes out freshly prepared fast. You'd have to go through a lot of nonsense to get this level of food if you go to a sit-down restaurant. The sandwich itself is pretty good, but I wouldn't call it the best sandwich of my life or anything like that as some folks seem to be saying (I've had much better). For a small sandwich over 10 bucks, it's not exactly cheap either, but the convenience more than makes up for it.
Brad Takala: This place is fantastic. If I don’t have breakfast at home I order a sandwich for pickup. My go to is The Baller and I order Breakfast Crack when I want to mix it up. The lines outside attest to how good they are. Order ahead!

Austin A: Tiny little corner spot with breakfast and lunch offerings. The menu is slightly limited and repetitive. Everything is hot and fresh and tasty, just don't expect a sit down cafe area with fast service. Place can only handle 3-5 people inside at once, pour your own coffee and get your own juice out of the fridge. More of and go or call ahead.

Chris Martin: One of my favorite local breakfast spots. They offer a wide menu with everything you could want for breakfast or lunch. Parking can be q little tricky but usually can find a spot around the block if not out front. Staff is always friendly and attentive. They do close around 1pm so they only serve breakfast and lunch. The place is hand painted with Disney characters and is very inviting.

Katie May: Meh. Went for brunch and the food was really bland. I ordered huevos rancheros and there wasn’t a speck of seasoning on the eggs or potatoes. I asked for salt and pepper which took 20 minutes to get to our table. We also didn’t have silverware to start and I had to go inside and ask for water refills. Service was pretty bad honestly. This place seems overrated and is way too expensive for the experience I had.

A friend made a reservation for a bunch of us after the marathon, and when we walked in at 5:00 pm, my first thought was that we were at a coffee/pastry shop. Yes, but so much more! Dinner here was intimate, but fantastic! The space behind the bakery is lovely (and quite expansive, if you peek around) and the food was top notch, even by my New Yorker standards (and at prices that I can only dream of in NYC). The food and vibe was so good that I am trying to find a way to get the planners of an important company event planned for Boston to hold it in their basement space. (PS, If you’re coming from Back Bay, walk/drive down Union Park from Tremont to Shawmut to see one of the loveliest neighborhoods in Boston.)

m: was really excited to try the almond croissant but was very disappointed. pretty sure it was made the day before if not days before because it was extremely dry. i’ve worked at bakeries and have had plenty of day old croissants that were still enjoyable. but for almost $6 it was completely inedible and hurt my mouth just to try and it. it was also completely sliced in half to put the frangipane in it so even the inside was dry and hard. we also got a biscuit breakfast sandwich which the biscuit was also super dry but still edible at least. pretty bummed, plenty of other good bakeries with fresh products to go to though.

Gabriel Aranovich: I've been twice, both times in the morning, when you would expect a self-described bakery to have fresh items, and in both cases the pastries were cold and stale. The second time, since I planned to eat at the cafe, I specifically asked if I could have a plate to eat my pastry on, rather than the brown paper bag the pastry was served in. The initial response, delivered super rudely, was that they don't have plates. When I pointed out that they have lots of tables and purportedly serve dinner, making it incredibly unlikely that they don't have plates, the rudeness continued and I was told that they are "take out only". When I pointed out that the store was half full of patrons (eating pastries off of oily crumpled brown paper bags being repurposed as "plates"), the clerk did not even acknowledge the dishonesty of what she said. Then to top it off, the cappuccino I got was scalding hot even after several minutes. I get coffee multiple times per week and have not had coffee that scaldingly hot in as long as I can remember. These guys produce bad products, prepared by rude employees, all while charging top premium prices.

Upon arriving to pick up my order I was told I was double charged and instead of saying come inside let’s take care of this she laughed and said looks like you are having a big breakfast. So figured I’d reach out to toast tab thinking it was an error on their part. It was not. I reached out to north street grille and was told I would be refunded. A day later they call and tell me since I took the food I got what I paid for. Like I wanted a hundred dollars worth of breakfast for two people. The food literally went in the trash I could not find someone to give it to. Sad to say I will not be back.

Trinity Machan: Food was good no doubt about that. However the the service is a joke I have never been rushed to pay my bill with a waitress hovering over me demanding if I was using a credit card or debt. When she brought me my bill I was on a business call instead of waiting the 2 minutes it took for me to get off the phone than bringing it she insisted on trying to talk over me asking how my food was. This has to be the worst service I have ever received.

Priscilla Ababio: I was not impressed at all. My French toast was very eggy and did not even look appealing. The server I can’t even find words for she would place drinks,utensils and syrup at the corner of the table this caused me to have to reach over the table multiple times to grab things. The only plus side was my girlfriend enjoyed her bagel and pancakes.
Amber Decker: We were visiting, and on our last morning, we popped into Thornton’s with our two young children. The entire staff was so friendly. Susette was our server, she was gracious and quick to take care of us. There was a tall man who was super friendly, as well, and really everyone just had a smile and a great demeanor. This will definitely be an every time stop for us whenever we visit Beantown!

Oliver Stewart: Came here with my brother for his Birthday dinner, this place would also make a great location for a romantic date.The service was great and the food even better. We had the Pork Belly Bao, Shitaki Mushroom Gyoza, Salmon and the Chocolate bread and butter pudding. The Gyoza and the pudding were the standouts to me but all of it was delicious.I washed my dinner down with one of the better espresso martinis I've had at a restaurant.The only real downside was we were sat near the entrance so whenever someone came in we got treated to a cold blast of air.8/10 would gladly return
James “Jamie” Kuesel: The food and atmosphere were very good. The salmon I got was fantastic. However, it was very overpriced, especially for what you got. The salmon was basically just a maybe 6-10oz salmon, a few vegetables in a broth thrown by its side. For $36 dollars that just isn't worth it. Should be $22 tops. The dish should really come with some carb. Maybe some rice, potatoes, or even just some bread to fill you up. Could push it to maybe worth $25-28. The pizzas seemed fairly priced but many other dishes seemed overpriced as well.Unless the dishes are changed, via either adding more to them or reducing their price, I will not be coming back. Otherwise good.

Esther Moon: I really wanted to like this place as Sonsie has been on my Boston bucket list for quite a while. But I don't think I'll be coming back (maybe for Brunch, as it seems more popular?)We went as a party of 8 for dinner on a Friday, and we ordered the pizza, burger, croquettes, chicken, pasta dishes and they were all okay. The croquettes had the texture of glue and didn't go down well at all. Pizza and burger was very average, not sure why it's so expensive.However the service was the most frustrating part. It took forever for us to get drinks, and our main dishes came out even before our appetizers. One of our appetizers did not even make it out so we canceled it. Our server was very nice, but it just seems like there weren't any steps of service in place.Dessert was the best part! Cheesecake and bread pudding really hit the spot!

The mixologist Al I believe his name is, will make drinks not on the menu to your preference and they don't disappoint. Rachel Walsh: Hadn't stopped in since they renovated so decided to go for a drink on Saturday afternoon around 5pm. It was pretty busy but not crazy. We were able to get 2 seats at the bar. It took the bartender 11 MINUTES to take our drink order. There were 2 bartenders on, plus support staff. Not acceptable. It isn't like we were squeezing in trying to get someone's attention, we were seated at the bar. Need more training.
Anne Nealon-White: We had dinner at Sonsie last night and every aspect was fantastic. The atmosphere is beautiful with art covering the walls and upbeat music. I cannot say a single bad thing about the food and cocktails. Our steak and scallops were absolutely delicious and the oysters were fresh. Our waiter was attentive and engaging. It was an, overall, perfect dinner. Try the Smokeshow cocktail.
Winnie Zhang: Had higher expectations since this place is on Newbury, but everything was mid, honestly. The service was fine and it’s not like the food was nasty, but it just wasn’t seasoned enough. The oysters were fun to eat.

I was disappointed that there were too few options for breakfast & only a sweet option for someone who cannot eat bacon (the person with me) I ordered a sausage patty muffin & mine was served without the patty. When I informed my server, he insisted the grilled tomato slice was the sausage! I had a couple of bites & then opened the muffin & called him & showed it to him again emphatically telling him there wasn’t any sausage in the muffin - that’s when he took it away & replaced it. He also got out tea order wrong & then just said there wasn’t any English breakfast tea - clearly he didn’t like being called out or asked questions. I’m visiting the city & my first time at Sonsie. I Don’t expect this service & then be forced to leave a gratuity for this experience.
