I had someone out for a second opinion, he ran actual diagnostics and found that there was an easy fix. The part that the Sears technician said was broken was completely fine. They are only trying to sell you new merchandise. First problem was scheduling-- I spoke to someone who clearly didn't have any relation to the business, it was a call center. I needed my dryer repaired and I also wanted the washer and dryer to have general servicing. The scheduler didn't know how or wasn't able to schedule one person to do both. I said I didn't understand why one person couldn't do all of this in one visit, I didn't want two separate people coming. He assured me that one person would do it all. Yet, on the day of service, the repair person came and was unaware that he was supposed to do general service on the machines.Then I got a call later from another service person saying he was on his way to service the machines.My dryer needed a new part and I was given a price that I thought was high, but now I was stuck because if I didn't use Sears Home Service to fix it, I'd be out $119 I paid for them to come diagnose the issue. So I said, fine, repair it. I had to pay in advance, and we scheduled a day. Prior to that date, I got a text and email saying they had changed the date-- without even checking with me if it was convenient, which it was not. So I had to go back on line and reschedule it.On the day the repair person came, he had the job done in 25 minutes. The breakdown of the bill charged me $396 for labor. That's an hourly billing rate of $800!!! I tried calling Sears Home Service to question and dispute this, but there is no way to get a human. I went to the on line chat and was given an email address to write. The address wasn't a Sears email address, so I asked if this was correct and they gave me a completely different one. I asked how to get a copy of the chat and they said they would email it to me, but they didn't. I emailed the address I'd written down and never got any response. This feels like a huge scam. Richard Thomas: I called them based on the glowing reviews here. The tech showed up on the same day in the evening, so I'll give them 2 stars. But he took a look at my refrigerator and said that the cooling system had failed and that it would be better for me to buy a new refrigerator. This was my first ever experience with an appliance issue. Fortunately before placing an order for a new refrigerator, I checked with Whirlpool. They sent along another tech who told me that this was covered under warranty. He replaced the part and it's now working perfectly. I know that I should have called whirlpool first. But these guys have been in this profession for years. He should have advised me better. Charging me a whopping $185 to open up a few screws and giving me bad advice is not what I had expected based on their Google reviews.

Jacob Hooker: Our Samsung dryer belt gave out. We hired Boston & Cambridge Appliance repair to come out and replace it. They told us on the phone that the service call would be $89 and that the labor would be $80. Parts would be added to this. They gave an invoice for $99 + $90 for these two fees and also charged $135 for a belt and idler pulley which costs about $30 online - maybe $50 at their supplier at most. I realize that they need to mark up parts, but this was ridiculous. The entire repair took less than 30 min and we were left with a $333 bill for a dryer that brand new is like $500. I called and complained about the price and they said they would credit back some of the charge and that the parts should have been $85 (still a big mark up I'm sure). I was told that technicians have "discretion" for how much they mark up parts and evidently on the service fee and labor too. I feel taken advantage of and I suspect that many others have been. I do not mind paying a company for good work, but lets do it with an honest fee structure. I will not use these guys again.Update: The owner ended up waving the part fee, which I appreciate. I hope that transparency in the process increases.

The response was very quick, a technician came, a problem was identified, a part was changed.Two months later the refrigerator started to make an intermittent knocking noise. I have called the company again, and as in the first time the response was very quick. A technician came, spent about 15 minutes and could not find any issue and left and asked to record the noise next time it comes around. The noise continued, and was recorder. A technician came again, "checked" the refrigerator again said "i have took few things apart, put back and now it is fixed" , I have asked to retest it again to make sure that no noise is coming, he said "absolutely no need and left" a day after .. noise came back. I have called the Boston$Cambridge Appliance Repair again ... I was told that the operator will speak with the technician and get back to me ... I've got no phone call from them .... meanwhile I have fixed the refrigerator on my own, and about a month later Boston$Cambridge Appliance Repair called me and asked to pay a bill . I understand that a technician spent some time trying to fix the issue, but at the same time he did not fix it and refused to retest the machine ... now was asked to pay for the work that was eventually was done by me ....

Kari Percival: Our old Maytag Dryer was making metallic rattling scraping noises. I called Dave at Edgeworth Appliance in Malden. He called me back the same day and offered to come the next morning between 9 and 12. He called and came by at 9 and quickly took the dryer apart to diagnose the problem. He showed me the problem, told me the cost to repair, and asked what I wanted to do, didn’t pressure me either way. I asked him to go ahead and fix it, and 20 minutes later my dryer was fixed and working great again. He is the second repairman who has told me that my dryer, although old, is a good model worth repairing. He told me he sells appliances, too if I ever want to buy one in the future. Called him for a washing machine, but while here he took a look at my microwave solving both issues. We had a dishwasher that was performing badly and gave us some tips including cleaning nozzles, changing dishwashing liquid brand and if we wanted to purchase a new one the brand he recommends. He ended up coming over twice, but called on a Monday, visited on Wednesday and Friday. Quiet and to the point and conscious of Covid precautions. They correctly diagnosed the overall issue as a broken fan, ordered the part, called us promptly to let us know when the part arrived, and got our fridge working again.
