Crimson Sailing Academy: what do users think?
Sarah Kent: My son had a great time sailing in a beautiful venue with an expert coach. Been is extremely knowledgeable and funny. My son learned many nuances to team racing that he can take back to his school team. It was fun to meet and sail with people from many other clubs/programs. Also interesting to sail at a college sailing center as a high schooler. A great week!
Yuechen Qian: My son had a wonderful summer camp in the summer. Coach Bern and his assistants were very experienced and nice. They offered a lot of time to let kids to practice and play. My son had a great time. The highlight was the last afternoon of the program when the kids sailed with their family. My son definitely wanted to do it again!Parking was a bit problematic. Bette to drop kids earlier or reserve ample time to find a parking spot in the neighborhood.Wish they offer year-long programs, say during weekends.
Luna Dasuza: My son attended this camp summer of 2018 - I found it to be superbly organized. It was hands down the best summer experience my son has had. It had just the right balance between instruction and fun. My son who reluctantly signed up for the course came home positive and happy every single day. He's developed a love for sailing which can be credited to Coach Bern and his superbly trained team. This camp delivers what it promises and I only wish there were more camps like it.
Kerry Doyle: My son had a great time and learned SO much! So nice for them to be out on the Charles River every day. Thanks!
Vivian Larsen: I really liked this camp. I learned lots about sailing from the super nice coulnclers! I also made tons of new friends! I can't wait to be back next year!☺️☺️
Gabriella Costello: This place was a place to make memories. I loved their instruction. And I learned a lot. Can't wait to come back next year.
Jack Eagan: This is my second summer at CSA! I'm so sad that my session is ending! This is a great camp with great counselors ! The camp is tailored to the campers needs/preferences. I went from being scared of sailing last year to feeling comfortable and taking my parents on a boat ride. The counselors are always out supervising on the water. Looking forward to next year. Even after the storm damage in early 2018 by the my second week you couldn't even tell. So who ever commented about the damage you couldn't even tell if you came back. [I believe that the best response probably would come from a current camper. Like myself]
Nancy Serrano-Wu: Top-notch camp -- I highly recommend this camp to all. My son attended the camp without any prior knowledge of sailing, and came home each day more and more excited. He was in the water every day, and told tales of sailing with his friends right away in the boats, under the close supervision of Coach Bern. Coach Bern is an accomplished sailor in his own right, but more importantly, an excellent teacher. He is able to get through to the kids with his sense of humor, and inspire them with his technical knowledge. The location is picturesque, and the camp graciously provides photos of your children sailing along the Charles that you can easily share with your friends and family. Given the small-size of the camp, your budding sailor will learn an amazing amount for the time that they are there. The Academy also runs high school clinics for more experienced students. You will not be sorry sending your children here!
Sophie Barlos: I learned how to sail here as a kid and was incredibly impressed by how much they taught us. The lessons are tailored to the students, and those who wanted to learn more competitive techniques were given the chance to do so. I still come to sail every summer because of the amazing experience at CSA. Beautiful location in the Charles River Basin. They have 420s and FJs in good condition and very knowledgeable coaches. I highly recommend!
Lakshmi Ilango: Loved spending summers at Crimson Sailing Academy as a kid growing up. Never had sailing experience before but even on the first day of camp I felt comfortable enough on the boats thanks to the instructors. Sailing on the Charles is still one of my favorite pastimes in Boston.
Victoria Hain: I attended CSA for four summers and have always enjoyed it! The curriculum is adjusted based on the skill level of each session and it is a great way to spend part of the summer. You learn a lot and get to sail right beside the Boston skyline!
Steven Riendeau: Crimson Sail Academy on the Charles River is an amazing place to teach your kids to sail. Thank you for being here.
Shawn Porter: The Charles River Sailing Academy at MIT is much better.

Alejandro Nuñez-Jimenez: Amazing view of the Charles River and Boston's skyline from the terrace. I was there for an evening networking event (5:30 PM) in early May and, despite it being a sunny day, it was freezing because of the unrelenting wind. Bring a jacket with you and enjoy the view!
Lisa Marie: Love

Community Boating Inc.: what do users think?
Caroline Meeks: friendly affordable place to learn to sail
Eric Li: Staff is very friendly. They got a lot of Saul boats and boats to try. Also very friendly with beginners
Sweet Kitty: I went sailing with friends at community boating many times, always had a good time there. The staff were very friendly and helpful.. They always looked happy. It made me happy about my sailing. The boats and sails were clean and always in good conditions. The life jackets may not very clean, but better than what availability at other sailing/boating places. When sailing in the river, wind blows by and view is so beautiful. It was always a joyful experience.
Luke Heine: Absolutely rockstar place. Maybe the most affordable place to learn how to sail in the US. Super accessible and amazing community
Philipp Schneider: A really easy going place for learning how to sail
John Figueiredo: Beautiful location
behrang ghabchi: Best experience ever in Boston🤩💯👌🏻
Mikhail Naumov: Incredible for the price, $400 upfront for a full summer of kayaking, windsurfing and sailing. All the classes are included/free except for the advanced racing class!
joy sun: I ran past this place on the Esplanade for years while living in Boston. I thought since I didn’t sail, this place didn’t apply to me. Walked in one day and learned that for $400 a year, they’ll teach you how to sail and let you rent equipment for free! Just sailed for the first time today and really looking forward to getting better with more lessons!
Samantha Elghanayan: Great kayaking
Frank: Great place to learn sailing and windsurfing. Also, the taste of the water is not too bad .
Michael Doyle: What an experience. I hadn't sailed for 30 years. The woman up front assured me it would be fine and they would tow me in if I had difficulties. The Mercury is a nice stable sailboat and the person setting it up gave me a crash course on the rigging. One of life's great experiences is sailing on the Charles River in Boston. Get the jib, especially if you have a passenger that wants to stay involved. No problems getting in our out of the docks. HINT: on the verbal test, when they ask what to do when the boat is getting ready to capsize, "release the mainsail".
James Kassabian: If you're looking to sail and you're from out of town, look elsewhere. Nonmembers are not allowed to rent sailboats in heavy winds/red flag - ideally when qualified sailors would actually want to be out there. No exceptions made and staff didn't bother to mention that it was a red flag until 30 minutes after asking them about parking in the area. Disappointing.
Kristine Murray: We were able to rent a 19’ sailboat for 4 adults and enjoy an afternoon on the Charles river.
Alexander Cohen: Excellent way to start sailing! Staff is friendly and supportive. Membership is also an unbeatable value!
Edbert Cheng: I enjoy the Kayak service, but why are the folks who work on helping ppl into kayaks seem like they hate their job? Where are their manners? Sometimes there is staff, other times there isn’t, or people are just rude. Maybe the paid sailing courses are better? Please train your staff to be courteous and not “throw” boats around. Staff in New York are nicer than here, because I used to work at a boathouse there. I will find a rival kayak service. Please train your staff.
Miguel de Icaza: Great place to learn to sail! Perfect!
John Haxx: By far the best membership anything that exists in Boston. $400 gets you a whole year of sailing, kayaking, paddle boards or wind surfing, and classes to get you going. The volunteers are all generally wonderful and getting your sailing ratings is easy and straight forward. Couldn't be happier to be a member.
9507 Ashmont: Beautiful view
Pedro Almeida: The best sailing club around! They have sailboats, kayaks, windsurf, lasers and more! All of that with an extremely affordable membership that included many classes on their boats. The environment is just amazingly friendly and great for everyone.

Black Rock Sailing School: what do users think?
jimmy choate: fantastic school great instructors can’t miss here
Michael Pimentel: Positive:ProfessionalismI recently attended Black Rock Sailing School in Boston. I can’t say enough about Captain Paul & Captain Forest. The instructors were not only knowledgeable & professional but they made it a fun experience. If you are thinking about learning to sail then don’t hesitate to sign up at Black Rock.
Sam F: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueJust finished ASA 104 at their Warrick, RI location. They offered an amazing training experience with an outstanding and skilled instructor and a fantastic Beneteau 47 sail boat. I highly recommend getting all levels of training with them.
Charles Landry: Just finished our 101 course with Paul. We got very lucky with the weather being terrific, but more importantly than that the classroom and on-the-water instruction was superb. Paul was knowledgeable, patient, good natured and a skilled teacher (both with the theoretical aspects as well as the practical). Looking forward to taking the 103 course in a couple of weeks and would very much recommend Black Rock to anyone interested in learning to sail.
Marissa Frosch: My husband, nephew, and I just completed our ASA 101 sailing course through Black Rock Sailing School in Boston and I couldn’t have been happier. Our instructors were incredibly knowledgeable not only about the class but about anything we thought of to ask (and there was a lot!). The environment was very welcoming, I never felt like the odd one out as the only woman present in the class. I can’t wait for 103. We’ll be in RI for that one and after going to Boston I was a little sad we set it up this way but Brenton’s reputation suggests we’ll have just as good a time there.Highly recommend for people who are thinking about getting into sailing for the cruising life style (part or full time) as well as the folks who are interested in racing.
Gabriel Motta: Great school with great instructors.
Tom Joyce: Had a tremendous three days at Black Rock Sailing School in Boston. We were on a first rate well maintained 33 foot boat with Jim, a very experienced licensed captain with many years of experience on the water. Jim has also been a professional educator for a long time and understands how to teach adults. The other two people in the class were also great assets. It was not an easy class but I always felt in control and walked away knowing I could handle a boat like that. Brenton did a great job getting me into the right class and all the materials and instructions were sent to me well in advance. I will be back.
Agust Calabro: I took ASA 101 with Capt Paul Sullivan. Knowing absolutely nothing about sailing, over the course of the class he gave me the skills and confidence to sail on my own. I would highly recommend Black Rock, and Captain Paul specifically. He is knowledgeable, friendly, and always allows you to pick his brain
Scott Roche: I took ASA 101 with Blackrock last year and it was a really great experience. I'd actually been crewing for a while but had no formal training, and during/after the course everyting just clicked. My instructor was Paul Sullivan, and he was awesome -- super knowledgeable and experienced, great at explaining things, and a fun guy to spend eight hours a day for three days with. We had some tough breaks with weather during the course (one day was too rough to go out, and the last day there wasn't sufficient wind), so Paul scheduled us with a (totally optional) makeup day a week or so later. They didn't have to do that, and I really appreciated it. The boat they teach 101 on (the colgate 26) is a dream to sail/learn on, and big enough that practicing on it lets you transfer your skills to a smaller or bigger boat pretty easily. I'm a member of a certain other sailing club in Boston (that also teaches courses), and from what I have seen of many people who have learned at my club, Blackrock is the way to go for sailing instruction. I came out of it a better, more confident sailor who enjoys sailing a lot more now. I'll be doing all of my futher courses with these guys.
Rebecca Fishbein: I recently completed the ASA 101at Black Rock Sailing School with Paul Sullivan. As a novice, I was apprehensive about being able to demonstrate command of the content and my developing skills on the water but Paul is an exceptional instructor who possesses the perfectcombination of knowledge, skill, experience and patience. He is able to teach the most basic skills, peppered with his vast personal and professional experiences, in an engaging yet serious manner. His respect for the power of the sea, wind and air is never in doubt as he conveys theimportance of having the knowledge and abilities to sail safely. And while on the water with Paul he supplied a constant narrative to test, educate and encourage us, translating what we had learned in the classroom into real, demonstrable skills.I would highly recommend to anyone contemplating sailing or improving their sailing skills to consider Black Rock Sailing School and certainly “the wind whisperer”, Paul Sullivan.
Laurie Katz: My husband and I have taken sailing lessons with Black Rock Sailing School and couldn't have been happier with our experience. We did ASA 101, 103 and 104 with Chris and then took a few private lessons with Paul to brush up on our skills the following season. A few years earlier I had taken an introductory class to sailing at another one of the big sailing schools in Boston. Without question, Black Rock Sailing School was the better experience. Black Rock offered us more personalized teaching with a smaller group - there were only 3 people in each each of our classes at Black Rock vs 15 people at the other school. The instructors were also clearly more experienced at Black Rock. I also found Black Rock provided an overall better hands on experience...there were only 3 people on our sailboat compared to 4-5 people at the other school...less people on the boat means more time to learn. I would recommend this sailing school without hesitation.

Boston Sailing Center: what do users think?
Brian Busch: Great place to sail - friendly staff, fun boats. Great place to learn too.
Vivian Chan: Amazing beginner experience with great instructors. Super helpful crew that were always willing to help (and rescue you if you were struggling/ caught in the storm!). Highly recommend
John Seamans: I enjoyed the professional manner in which I was instructed.. Thank you to the entire staff.
Tom R: Incredible instruction, fair price, good boats. Love this place.
Gustave H: Critical:Professionalism,Quality
Christopher Keane: Great group of people with fairly well maintained, but heavily used boats. Their classes are taught by very experienced sailors and the class size are very small with plenty of one on one instruction. The only downside is that if your a member on the large boats, unless you book long in advance it can be hard to get the exact boar that you want for a weekend.
Suzanne Shepard: This is place a gem. Far and away the best fractional ownership sailboat opportunity in the area. Their skilled, knowledgeable, service oriented staff feel like family. Also its the best sailing school around and their racing program is a blast!
scott bryer: Great place for sailing and learning to sail.
Brian Cote: Great sailing club. Boats in good condition, great social atmosphere.
David Walsh: Great place to learn how to sail or sail a wide variety of boats if you are certified to do so. 23 foot Solings and Sonars for daysailing up to 40 foot coastal cruising class. They take care of everything.
D Cares: I'm a woman that has a fanatical sailor husband. We signed up for a 3 part course to learn sailing, so I could become the fan too! The staff are young and fun & we had some really good instruction. We actually had some amazing sailing days. I would say this team gave me the confidence to enjoy sailing- which was pretty hard to do. Am I in love with sailing- not YET- but at least I know what to do and can help out on deck.Yes, this place is great. Good community of people as well.
Dan Panea: Great training, very friendly, focused on knowledge. This is a busy place. Make sure you take your time to understand what you need to learn. Book your classes early in the summer, as classes get booked fast. Literally, classes are booked 6 weeks out. At the end of the summer, you are a skipper. I had a great experience with this center.
rssail81: BSC is one of the hidden gems of Boston. It’s a great place for beginners to expert sailors, racers and cruisers. Maintenance has been great on all the boats. Of course some sailors need more maintenance than others but absent the usual user error the BSC does a great job with an amazing staff.
Lee Montag: While the center may be ok for first time learners, maintenance on the higher level boats no longer exists. For $3000 per season, 3 of our past 5 J24 boats had broken motors, and the staff acted like it was business as usual. Stay away if you are an experienced sailor.
Nikunj: Went Sailing on Boston Harbour at 54, Lewis Wharf and had a blast. We we're lucky enough to have the sails to us and the Nelli was smooth as butter. An hour long sailing was worth it with a loads of stuff to learn...! Definitely worth doing once a while to experience the blue seas and open sky..!
Burton Robson: I’ve sailed at Boston Sailing Center for the past 9 years and think BSC is wonderful for experienced sailors or for those taking their first lessonI’ve seen an improvement of the fleet over this timeframe and a consistent, hard working team of office staff and instructors. The fleet is well maintained and the club atmosphere includes social events and the opportunity to meet other members to sail with.Sailing in Boston Harbor is amazing and this could be the best part of your summer
Sean Flynn: Great place to go. Super friendly staff, especially Stacy and Bob! Real nice techs Peter and Griffin. Thanks for the great experience guys!
Doug Brown: Awesome, amazing experience. Instructors were fantastic. Boats are accessible. I'm looking forward to learning more and progressing the skills I was taught. By the way; the Boston Harbor is beautiful and EVERYONE should see Boston from this very unique vantage point!
全球全景: Good
Michael Bolgov: It was great. My family and friends went here with me. We had loads of fun. Spent 3 hrs sailing here.
James Roth: Great instructors, boats, and above all customer service. If anything comes up last minute, instead of being bumped from your reservation, the BSC staff makes things right. Some other sailing memberships in new england could learn alot from how BSC treats their members.

SailTime Boston: what do users think?
marelyn montero: Very ignorant guy! Called about Jet Ski and he very quickly stated no jet skis don’t call back and just hung up on me ..... very bad experience I am out here from out of state and just overall disappointed in the way I was spoken too.
Jeff Halio: I have really enjoyed sailing with Sailtime...you can't beat the location on Boston Harbor. Scheduling was great. Communication with the owner was good, and he was quick to respond. Can wait for the next season!
BMPT NVR: Fractional ownership is such a great option. Boats in the program are new, clean, and well maintained. Sailing on Boston Harbor without the overhead...simply incredible!
michael kaye: I have been a member of Sailtime Boston for over seven year. The membership model works for me. I signed up again for the 2019 season.
Larry Cater: The SailTime Boston program is great, affordable and the availability of sailing dates is fantastic. I have met some wonderful people through sailing for many years, and the SailTime crew is top shelf. Boats are well cared for, and minor maintenance is always taken care of.
Michael Koonce: Doug does a great job with Sailtime Boston. Boats are always clean. It is a great program. Would recommend it to anyone.

Satori Sailing Marblehead: what do users think?
Stacy B.: My husband, myself and anothercouple did a sunset sail and it was fantastic! From the initial point of contact with James until the end of the sail, everything was seamless. We were on the Arcadia and it was lovely. James was so great tailoring our sail to what we were looking to do, which was relax, take in the sights while listening to good music! This is a great time to unwind on a beautiful sailboat with a great guide. It was absolutely perfect and I wouldn't change a thing! We will definitely be taking trips through Satori again.Thank you James!
Theresa Harrison: A sunset sail on Satori was the perfect way for me and my college friends to enjoy time together under a gorgeous evening sky during their visit to Marblehead. James is a great host and he was accommodating and flexible when bad weather required us to adjust our original plans. I highly recommend the sunset sail and look forward to sailing with James again in the future.
Laura: We had an amazing day on the water with James! Sail Satori is the best way to see all of Marblehead/Salem and it could not have been a more pleasant experience. The boat was comfortable and clean and James was a consummate captain and host. I would recommend this to anyone visiting the area - we'll be back next summer!
Chris Haff: Deeply knowledgeable, accommodating and passionate about being an excellent educator and sailor. Those are the first thoughts that come to mind when my son and I think back on taking the nauticed.org linked Cruising Boat Fundamentals three day training with James Waddell.Aboard his Hunter 33 "Maushowomuk" James readily accommodated our varying experience levels and goals, covered all of the course/certification and handily covered our requests while sharing related experience. James is a very clear communicator and shockingly good with time. He was always ready when we arrived and oddly, even when sailing the entire time, we would manage to arrive at the mooring within a minute of the target time.
Rion Manita: Captain James and his sailing class has exceeded my expectations. The wealth of knowledge and ability to go into detail regarding just about everything is beyond reassuring. I feel as if what I learned with the three days I was on the water is the equivalent of weeks, all thanks to Captain James on the Satori.
Peter Bottéas: Captain James curates a delightful experience on Salem Harbor on his elegant small sailing vessel. Sunset on the water couldn't have been more magnificent on a balmy summer evening!
Bruce Giantonio: I got my ASA 101 Certificate during a 3 day course led by Captain James. During the didactics it was readily apparent he has a wealth of experience that is coupled with a deep knowledge of sailing, and yet he was able to effectively teach a group of individuals with a broad range of sailing experience that met everyones needs. His patient and thoughtful approach to getting us through the class material -along with great anecdotes- made the lectures exceptionally fun, and for this particular sailing neophyte he instilled a confidence that made my first time at the helm truly exciting.
Chris Bartick: Captain James is an A+ sailor, captain, and instructor and I regularly have collaborated with him at my own sailing charter company. If anyone in the Boston area were to ask me where to learn to sail, he and Satori are THE answer!
Captain Toby Stull SailHamptons: There are few better sailing instructors and sailors out there. As a professional sailor and mariner, I rely constantly on Captain James Ashton’s sound advice and skills to consult every aspect of my profession. He is patient and kind with beginners with a teaching style that makes learning sailing easy. I am so excited to see this project!!!
