Gabary House of Alterations: what do users think?
Elizabeth Ko: We came to Gabary for a wedding dress alteration. The entire experience was not great from customer service to the pricing to the actual alterations.Pricing- They were very shady with their pricing from the start and almost refused to discuss pricing. When pushed, they said that it would be around $450. Through this experience, that $450 became $480 and then $500 and then finally $525. When asked why the price increases, they could not answer. I feel that the pricing was not transparent and that they took offense to even the initial question of how much the alteration would cost. This should be a standard question in business and there should be cost transparency. There was none.Customer service- The customer service was horrible. They were rude and they didn't like questions. They made me feel incredibly uncomfortable and unwelcome.Actual alterations- The hem was uneven. The fasteners looked cheap. They were metal hooks. We were expecting satin buttons. They were supposed to fix gaping mesh in the front. When we came back to try the dress on, it seemed that they hadn't done anything and then they said it would be a lot of work. We then suggested they just cut some of the mesh. They did this and it look about 15 minutes. The biggest problem was really the transparency and the ego of the shop owner. They weren't transparent about they price. They weren't transparent about how they would do the actual alterations. Her ego made any discussion, any question a contentious one. Both of these things created a ton of tension and made the whole experience uncomfortable. This should've been a happy experience but unfortunately, it wasn't. We won't be going back.Service:Bridesmaid dress alterations
Emily Hostetler: I’ve been to this tailor a couple of times before the pandemic and again just recently. I’ve had floor length gowns, vintage rompers, jackets, and more altered here and have always been satisfied and happy with the outcome. They’re fast, easy to work with, and do a great job. Don’t hesitate to give them a try!
Rebekah Kaufman: Highly recommend! They are all so so nice and quick!
Coral Ashley: They did a gorgeous job on a too tight/too long bridesmaid dress and it fit perfectly! Done in a week and half as expensive as I expected! Gorgeous work, will be back!Service:Alterations
Nour Ismail: Did a very good job on my pants and very quickly. Also a good price and good service.Service:Alterations
Roldy Cezaire: This guy is the biggest con artist you'll ever meet. I went to him for a custom made suit. He seemed very confident in his abilities. Took my measurements, had me come in for a first fitting and I couldn't even button the suit jacket. After a few weeks and coming to the realization that he just wasn't skilled enough to make the suit, I inquired about a few dress shirts instead. That was about a year ago. This guy had every excuse under the sun as to why he still couldn't produce my shirts. He cashed my $600 check and never actually produced anything. To make matters worse, that poor excuse of a woman he works with doesn't know how to act and tries to bully people into doing things her way. To this day I'm still waiting for my refund. Whoever is reading this, do not give these people your business.Update: After posting this review I finally received my refund.
Yoel Fink: Excellent service
Hillary Tsang: They are a LIFESAVER. I came in last minute for a same-day alteration as a final ditch effort to wear a dress I had purchased last year for my in-person graduation this year. The zipper busted on Monday night and I was lucky to get it fixed at some tailor the following day. I tried the dress on again and lo and behold it busted again. I went to Gabary House of Alterations on Friday morning to see if I could sneak in another zipper fix. After describing my ordeal, they decided a new zipper would be needed and replaced it for me. They were swamped with requests very similar to mine (as graduation was the following day), but we kind enough to squeeze my fix in for pick-up far past their standard operating hours. They made sure to teach us how to properly zip a dress to avoid this in the future (who knew there was an important technique here). So grateful for their kindness and patience throughout, I will be coming back for future alterations.
Rachel G: I really wanted to be able to positively recommend this location, but unfortunately I'm not able to. I'm happy with the tailoring on my dress, but the customer service was very poor and disrespectful to me and my time.I dropped off the dress well in advance of when I needed it done and was quoted a week for the alteration. I made the mistake of paying in advance ($80 for a skirt and neckline alteration) with a generous tip based on the initial visit's service. I was told I'd get a call to arrange a pick-up time but ever received one. The day before my promised date, I called them to reschedule to 2 days later when I was more available. I arrived 2 days after the promised date to find the dress had not been started. The tailor apologized and said it would be done by end-of-business day. I returned the next day (3 days after the promised date) and still the dress had not been started. I asked them to just call me when it was ready. The dress was finally done 5 days after the promised date, and at that time I asked for one small final alteration. That alteration took 7 days with several phone call reminders (they hadn't started until day 6). When I came to pick up, I asked for a discount given the multiple waits and missed promised dates. The owner dismissed my concerns and told me to come later. When I said I wasn't able to return later, he just dismissed me again. I then asked for my 20% tip back and he publicly shamed me for slowing down his business with other customers. After minutes of rejecting my request for return of tip (I never raised my voice, never said anything disrespectful), he gave me $20 in cash and told me to "never come back". I quietly left after but this was in front of two other customers that he had treated me so disrespectfully!I truly hope others don't have an experience like me, so try to find another tailor in the area if you can. At the very least, don't pay up front like I did and tip based on how they treat you. You may have to make multiple phone calls to make sure they honor your time.Service:Alterations
Ariana Marnicio: I have been using Gabary House of Alterations for a few years now. I have brought them a range of challenges, including ripped bedsheets, hemmed pants, shortening sleeves, and complete redesign and reconstruction of some dress shirts. I am plus-sized and like to dress in menswear, and they have always treated me with kindness and respect, and have shared my excitement in making my clothing work best for me. Their location could not be more convenient in the heart of Central Square. I think their prices are fair and they are responsive if you have time-sensitive alterations. Please consider supporting their small business!Service:Alterations
Rolu Adebola: Good tailor. Not very good service.
Amrutha Killada: Went in for hemming my pants and needed them for the next day, the owner was amazing gave the pants hemmed under 30 minutes. Best tailors I have been to around Cambridge.Service:Alterations
Katy Triantafilo: I needed an urgent fix for two dresses. They were amazing, altered both dresses in 3 days and did the final touches with us there when we picked them up. They are super nice, will definitely go there again!Service:Alterations
Mahesh: Wasted $60 on useless alteration. Need to taper a men's jacket for a wedding and *even took* another jacket with me to show an example of *exactly* what I wanted. He said, yes, he can do it, no problem. But it's still loose as a sack on the sides but with tighter shoulders and nothing like what I wanted. All I heard were excuses that it's a different brand, so he took in the shoulders and yada yada. If he knew his men's jackets, he shouldn't have taken this job, should've said NO, what I wanted wasn't possible. Remember, I took a sample jacket, put it on and showed it to him. No guesswork needed! Yes or no, just that simple. Just excuses and not even an offer of a refund. Nice guy, but useless job. Now I need to use another jacket for the wedding.Service:Alterations
David Robertson: Fantastic service and great results! I got 3 pairs of jeans fixed and the results were stellar. Highly recommend!Service:Alterations
Joiya Sousa: I highly recommend visiting here if you need anything altered! I got a bridesmaid dress altered here and Mariale and Franklin were professional, fast, and so friendly! I hardly even had to tell them what I wanted, they are very experienced and have a true eye for style & fit. I dropped off my dress on a Thursday, expecting to wait a few weeks for it to be ready, but then it was ready on Monday! 4 days! I've never had tailoring services so fast. I highly recommend supporting this business for all your alteration and tailoring needs :)Service:Alterations
Frances G: I needed a fancy dress altered in under a week for a special occasion. I was worried I'd have to beg tailors to help me. Not at all. The team here answered my call and told me to come right over, they were attentive to my goals with the dress and when I told them about the timeline they did it in only a few days just in case further modifications were needed. And none were because it was perfect! They work like a well oiled machine. And the prices were so reasonable! 10/10 would recommend them to anyone needing a tailor service. You are in excellent trusted hands
Samantha Powers: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,ValueI got my wedding dress hemmed here and they did a wonderful job. They were very responsive and very quick, and overall it was a very pleasant experience. I had a different dress hemmed at another tailor in central and had a negative experience, so I was nervous about coming here. But they were wonderful!
Neethi Jayachandran: Positive:Professionalism,Responsiveness,ValueReally friendly and professional service on several alterations - pants, skirts, blouses, dresses on a range of fabric types done in the last 2.5 years. Each time I was able to put in a specific ask and got the right fit. Price is reasonable.Service:Alterations
Carolyn Barnes: They did a great job altering a bridesmaid dress for a very affordable price with a really quick turnaround time!
Jennifer Lee: I'm very disappointed in the service. I initially decided on this place to get one dress hemmed and another stitched because of the good Google reviews. But after experiencing their service I DO NOT recommend this place.First of all, they initially told me I'll be able to pick up my dresses by Saturday. When I stopped by on Saturday, they told me the dresses weren't ready and I should come by the next day. I can understand delay in service but after seeing the poorly done job the next day, I regret not taking back the dresses on Saturday. One of the dresses, as pictured, has a lining and I needed to get it hemmed. I came home and tried it on. It is unevenly hemmed and I can see the lining sticking out on both the left and right side of the dress. This was very poorly done and they charged me $30 for messing up my dress. The other dress that needed stitching was a smocked dress that requires an elastic thread in the bust area. They used a regular thread and did a poor job of stitching it. Because of the inelastic thread, it actually screws up the shape of the dress when I try it on.I feel like I just wasted my money for a service that actually did more harm than fixing the issues. I will not return and will take my dresses to another place to rectify the damage done by this place.

Jack's Tailoring: what do users think?
Brendan B: Amazing work. Quick turn around. Will definitely return for future needs.
Md Sifat Bin Raquib (Sifat): They did a good job with an old coat I had and needed a bit altered. I was skeptic when I was picking it up, but after returning home, I tried it on again with different layers underneath, and the quality work was apparent. I highly recommend them.
Jason Targoff: You know immediately that you are with a professional who knows what he is doing and cares about doing what is right for the customer. He is truly excellent and a pleasure to work with.Services:Men's clothing alterations,Coat jacket alterations
Robert Whalley: Jack is incredibly talented, fast, and fairly priced.I have had both formal and casual wear altered by him and have been thrilled with the results. I'll be coming back for all of my future tailoring needs and highly recommend that others in the area choose his shop as well!Services:Alterations,Men's clothing alterations,Waist adjustments,Suit tailoring,Coat jacket alterations,Formal wear tailoring
Eli Mernit: Jack is the best tailor in Cambridge. I won’t get my clothes tailored anywhere else. Highly recommend him for any job, big or small.
Rashad Ahmed: It's clear that Jack is an expert tailor - but he's also dependable and friendly. He'll explain to you the motivation behind each of his tailoring choices and suggestions but also considers your particular wants/needs. I brought to him a blazer and several pants that needed alterations and he did outstanding work that's well worth the price. I plan to return to him for my future tailoring needs.Services:Pants alterations,Men's clothing alterations,Formal wear tailoring
Sam Westby: Thanks Jack! He altered a pair of slacks and a button down shirt for my brother’s wedding, and it was a great experience end to end. I didn’t know much about how it should look and Jack was very helpful. He’s been at this location since the 80s and I could tell. I felt like he knew exactly what I needed and wanted and did a great job. $150 for both
Maddie Staszak: ONLY DOES MENS CLOTHING. Does not do dresses.
David Shortsleeve: Jack is a skilled tailor and a super nice guy. It's hard to leave because you wanna just hang out and talk with him for two hours.Service:Alterations
Matt Harmon: Jack did excellent work with my first ever alteration. He was genuinely kind and easy going, and my suit looked fantastic. I’ll be returning :)Service:Alterations
Paul Beach: Jack made an outstanding improvement to my suit. Jack went above and beyond to help me out on a tight schedule and I wish him all the best.Service:General repairs
Nick Brucato: I highly recommend working with Jack! I've been going to Jacks for over 5 years now, most recently for my wedding suit, and he's never disappointed. His meticulous approach is reflected in the final product. Jack has always been kind, professional, and takes my thoughts into account.
Randy Canal: Very rude customer service
Keith January Jr: Jack's Tailoring is a must if you have any alteration or tailoring needs. The owner, Jack himself is a magician. From the initial pinning and sizing up until the pickup date, he was nothing short of amazing. I needed a suit tailored for my Dental School Graduation. He had me measured and pinned within 5 minutes of my arrival. He explained every option and choice. He took a very poor fitting suit from Belk and turned it into a custom masterpiece. I only wish I could have became a customer sooner. Amazing service, great pricing and even more amazing owner and tailor.Services:Alterations,Design
Karen Dempsey: Jack’s work is of the highest quality. I’ve had him shorten many jeans with the original hem and, more recently, tailor a vintage coat with a complicated design. He has a great eye and is always pleasant to chat with.Service:Alterations
Brady Brown: Jack was great. Polite, knew his stuff, made sure you knew what you were getting and what you’d be paying. Came out great.Anything I need tailored I will be taking here.
Shane Butler: I got a suit altered at Jack’s Tailoring. The service was quite expensive ($260!) and after the alterations were done, I noticed that there was something wrong with the cuff buttons. I brought the suit jacket back to him and explained that I was unhappy and wanted the sleeves lengthened. He told me that he wouldn’t do it and that it was my fault that I couldn’t “envision” what he was going to do. He clearly didn’t explain what he was going to do with the cuff buttonholes well enough and could’ve just showed me what he was aiming to do on another jacket and that would’ve solved the problem as I never would’ve approved his alteration. He refused to do any work for me on the suit jacket and refused to refund me any of my money. I had to take the jacket to a superior tailor to fix his shoddy workmanship. An unpleasant and expensive experience with Jack’s Tailoring made worse by his terrible customer service. What kind of a business owner doesn’t want customers to be happy with their product and blames the customer for being unhappy?Service:Alterations
Tom O'Hara: Jack is a true craftsman. Every jacket and suit he tailored for me is perfect. I couldn't recommend him more. Expert attention to detail and great service.Service:Alterations
Derek Ullman: They just don't make folks like Jack any more. A true gentleman, he takes the time to explain his thought process and is very careful to answer any questions and/or concerns you may have. Amazing customer service and his work is impeccable. Transparency, great value and all around a very positive transaction. I have been going to him for years and will continue to do so.Services:General repairs,Alterations
Jon Chapman: Helpful, knowledgeable, experienced, skilled and classy. I don’t have much tailoring work done, but this is where I’ll go in the future.
Call me Nehemiah: I went in person asked if he would verify my fur, he said of course I come back with my fur and he tried to be insulting like why would I know about furs im like because I asked you and you said yeah. Lack of integrity and attention can not recomend him ladies and gentle men

Aroush's Tailor Shop: what do users think?
Diana Avery: I truly never write reviews, but had a terrible experience here. Brought in a dress just to get the neckline altered. Unprompted, the owner cut the seams on the dress to take a "closer look" at the neckline to help her decide whether she would even be able to fix it, then quoted me a really high price. I decided to try another tailor instead, so I asked her to sew back up the dress that she cut, and she became so rude and had a terrible attitude. She argued with me about even fixing the issue she created. Said I would need to come back in 2 hours if I wanted her to do that. She did not even want to speak to me when I came back in to collect the dress
Charlotte Rogg: Wouldn’t recommend this tailor to anyone. Brought in my coat to fix a rip and received my coat with a completely broken zipper. Forced to pay to fix zipper. Completely unprofessional and overpriced.
Yuening Zhang: I had zippers fixed and elastic band added for my dresses. The lady was very nice and she discussed with me on how to better fix the dress. I got it second day with a little bit extra fee, but the price was reasonable and cheaper than another place I went. I would come back again.
Albert Gnadt: Work was fine, but kinda pricey and took awhile.
Evan Mateen: Great place
Alex Fraser: Amazing service from a great family! I cannot recommend Aroush's Shop more.
Sam Gomes: Excellent service! I went in for three buttons (with two missing, and these were a hard type of button to find) and pants to be hemmed, and she had them ready the very next day for the very fair price of $17 (the two missing buttons were an expensive variety, being made of leather).
Maxim Imakaev: Did a last-minute alteration promptly (same-day). Quick and professional. The price was very reasonable.
Peter J. Wender: My old tailor went out of business, and I was looking for a new tailor in Cambridge. Brought a very simple “trial” job to Aroush’s – sew 4 buttons on each sleeve of a new sport coat. I came with all the material (buttons and thread) and a sample coat to show exactly what was needed. The tailor waved off the sample saying it was very simple. It wasn’t. The completed job was sloppy: thread sewed all the way through the inner lining of the sleeve (sample had it only through the out layer of fabric), left white basting thread in place to hold flaps together, and didn't get even spacing so some buttons ride up on top of next one while others leave gaps. Tailor offered to redo it saying, “It will only take 5 minutes”, yet refused to accept less than the full $20 for the job as-is, claiming it had taken a long time. Can’t understand. If a good job takes 5 minutes, why does a sloppy job take longer? Skill level did not seem to be there to do a proper job, so I declined the offer to redo. This is a one star rather than zero star review because it was ready at the promised time.

Soohyun Kwak: The best tailor shop in the town
Reese Caldwell: Go-to dry cleaner in Cambridge! They are fast, reliable, and friendly.
Amanda Sullivanm: Had my wedding dress alterations done she is amazing at what she does also had my daughter dress done I can’t be more happyService:Alterations
Michael Powers: Friendly. Great service. Excellent tailors
Luke Haubenstock: Elegant Tailor did a wonderful job on a custom, wedding-related tailoring job, all on a quick emergency timeline (less than a week). Very kind people as well. Thank you for everything!
Siobhan Morris: I brought two garments here to be dry-cleaned, and both came back with dirt still on them. One of them, my favourite dress, was damaged (the buttons were chipped or broken). When I asked for a partial refund, they told me that I assumed the risk of damage to my garments when I drop them off. No refund, and a damaged dress. I do not recommend!
Michael Anand-Obleton: Best tailors ever! We were all set to wear our stylish purple suits to our son's wedding, but less than 24 hours before the ceremony, his fiancée brought my husband and me each a traditional Indian kurta Paijama dress and we wanted to impress her by wearing them to the wedding. Unfortunately, however, they were way too small for either of us to fit into: my husband's arms were too big and muscular, and my chest was too big for the garment to fit over my head. Although these tailors were extremely busy on a holiday weekend, they still decided to work overtime to make sure we looked perfect for our son's wedding. They are wonderful people who do exceptional work, and we will always come back to them anytime we're here in Boston.
Diane S.: Critical:Qualityhorrible experience with my clothes I don't recommend it
Jane Moulding: This is the very best place for dry cleaning, laundry and tailoring. I recommend it to all of my friends. It is top class.
J Daily: 한국인 사장님이 하시는 곳. 청바지 기장을 줄이려고 주말에 맡겼는데 다음 주 수요일에 찾을 수 있었습니다. 잘 수선되어 있었어요. 현금만 가능해요.
Alex Showers: Quick service. Accommodates pick up time requests. Excellent prices.
Asraf Roni: Good for alterations
Michael Els: Great dry cleaner and tailor. I've been using them for years.
Emily Scott: Very good experience. They added beautiful lace sleeves to my wedding gown, which is pretty difficult, but they did an excellent job. Very nice ladies. They gave their professional opinion of my options for covering my arms and then I picked. My mom takes her cocktail dresses there for alterations all the time and is always very happy.

Simeon's Fine Tailoring: what do users think?
Ivanna Matskevych: Just found “nice” message about closing so when and how I can back my clothes
Peter Squires: Excellent service.
Jonathan Paras: Good work
Julie Picard: Dropped off a faux fur for a few rips repaired and a little hemwork on inner lining..and a dryclean of it. I should have requested a quote first!!!. He drops a bomb on me 100 dollars!!.... Get a quote first! They are expensive!
Theo Theoharis: First rate work, in a friendly, well priced shop.
Ilia Baum: I came here for a dress alteration. Simeone and his wife Theodora are very welcoming and take the time to talk through what you need to do, providing their expert advice along the way. Very fairly priced also!
James Kelly: Very fast turnaround and great quality work.
Cécile J: I came to Simeon's several times. Once I had some jeans re-done by the hips because they were too big. He charged me 20 dollars for that. The time after I brought a dress to have it cut, no even sewed, and he charged me 30 dollars.I was surprised and told him, and he said that prices were not fixed... Yea, I can tell! I am a French student and I thought that was a very lame way to charge people, especially when you asked less money for a much more complicated work before... Would recommend other tailor around, I have been to and who don't charge people depending on their mood!!
Brian Dubois: I went here with some holes in my jean's inner thighs. They were properly patched up and I haven't had any problems with them since.
Kevin Healy: Simeon hemmed up two pair of pants for me overnight. The work was done well, he is friendly and charges a reasonable price. I will go there again!
Joseph Kubiak: Great place, guy knows what he's doing and, without an appointment, tailored my pants while I waited. And it was a well done tailor job. Reasonably priced - I'll be back for more

Raina Searles: Good service and quality tailoring
Julia Harty Rydin: Service:Alterations
Laura Ramsey: I’m so thankful a friend told me about Queen dressmakers. She is so kind and thoughtful - and incredibly talented! My wedding dress had several layers plus a layered skirt underneath, and with my short stature (5’0”) there was quite a bit of hemming to be done. It turned out perfectly - exactly what I imagined - and I felt so beautiful and confident in the dress all day. Thank you!
Shelby Johnson: My experience here was so lovely, efficient, and affordable. I took my bridesmaids dress in to have the straps adjusted and pads removed. The business owner was so kind, almost motherly in how welcoming and reassuring her energy was, and made the process so fast. Dress was ready to pickup within 15 days, and honestly couldnt beat the price anywhere else. I highly recommend this lovely small business and I will be back!Service:Alterations
Laura Lewis: Owner is very nice and friendly, reasonably priced too. She made the adjustments I asked for within a week, and then when I tried the dress on again, called that it was still not right and made additional adjustments on the spot. Here's my Halloween costume, fitting great thanks to Queen Dressmakers!
Anna Plantinga: Beatrice altered my wedding dress. She was wonderful to work with, and the dress fit like a dream!Service:Alterations
Alissa Foss: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,Responsiveness,ValueI can’t recommend this place enough! Beatrice is the sweetest and so professional. She altered my wedding dress to absolute perfection- she cares so deeply about her work and it really shows. Don’t bother considering anywhere else!Service:Alterations
Michael Caney: I go here often to get my shirts/pants and suits done. They always come out great. I will definitely be coming back.
A.David Wunsch: Positive:Professionalism,Quality,Responsiveness,ValueThis nice lady does men's tailoring too. She has repaired moth holes in some sweaters and her charges were minimal. I brought in some elbow patches and she sewed them onto jackets and sweaters and they look fine.Service:General repairs
Carolyn Young: Can-do seamstress, good quality work, reasonable prices, good turnaround time.
Alexandra Cruz: I cannot say enough wonderful things about Beatrice. She is the perfect balance of professional and warm. She altered my wedding dress in such a timely manner, and the work was exceptional. Even despite the COVID 19 pandemic, she stuck to her deadline and even accommodated my new wedding date (which was two months earlier). She special ordered buttons for my dress, gave honest advice on the bustle and even steamed my veil for free. And I absolutely LOVE going into her business. She is so welcoming and kind, really made me feel special and listened to all of my million questions and concerns. And on top of all of this, her pricing is extremely fair and she is transparent and up front about what needs to be/doesn’t need to be done. Don’t look any further - go to Queenies I promise you’ll have the best experience!!!
Sara Crandall Zoeller: I had a great experience here getting alterations for my wedding dress. I got my dress at BHLDN and needed some adjustments to the top half and to add a bustle. Everything turned out great- it fit perfectly and she made some small suggestions and changes that made the dress even better than I expected. What could have been a stressful situation instead was really easy and fun. Thank you!
Madeline Dahl: Beatrice has altered 3 different dresses for me now and I've had a great experience each time. She is always friendly and welcoming, but efficient in her interactions. Clearly someone with a ton of experience who doesn't need much direction to make your alterations just right!I had one somewhat casual dress made of nicer fabric and two formal bridesmaids dresses altered here with completely different needs for all three. Great turnaround time and pretty fair prices for the quality, convenience, and speed. Happy to pay a bit for a local institution like this. She is also a very fair businesswoman- I brought one dress in, tried it on for her, and she told me I didn't need alterations saying "Why spend the money?" This kind of personalized, trusting practice is what supporting local businesses is all about!
Kerri Botvinnik: Amazing job on my dress! My dress had 3 layers that needed to be adjusted so I thought it might cost an arm and a leg but the price ended up being as amazing as the job she did on the dress!
Miranda Haddock: Absolutely love this place! She does a fabulous job on dresses. I have had both my prom dresses done here and plan to have my bridesmaid dress done here! She is super friendly and gives great advice on how the dress should look along with doing a wonderful job! I 100% recommend!
