JW Johnson: When we bought our beautiful family home many years ago we thought it was perfect. Inside it really was perfect but our elementary school aged kids informed us that all of their friends, including our neighbors, had pools and better yards for playing. They begged for a pool, but my wife was hesitant because she wanted a beautiful yard and thought that pools were ugly. I was only concerned about expenses but for my daughter's12th birthday I told her would we put in a pool. My wife was not happy because she thought it would make the yard look stark and bare with too much cement and not enough space to grow flowers or relax. I hired a contractor but wanted a good deal on supplies so I called Sam White and Sons in Newton and spoke to an expert who helped design and find materials for a perfectly beautiful yard that my whole family could love and enjoy.Since then we have been going back on a regular basis to update the property and add to the beauty and pleasant atmosphere. We put in some more garden spaces for plants and flowers, a firepit, an additional patio, an outdoor kitchen thing, and lots of nice rockwork. I eventually had the pool redone which made my wife very happy and helped up the value of our home. Every time we go in to Sam White and Sons the service is great and all their employees seem to be experts at giving great advice. So many tips and ideas!I very much appreciate that it is still a family owned company. I see many of the same employees in the twenty something years I have been going there which gives me great confidence in how they run the business. So much depends upon good employee management, doesn't it? The employees there always seem happy and ready to help which makes me think they like their jobs and are treated very well. This translates directly to good customer service. I have read some sad bad reviews here and do not agree at all with the people who wrote them. I think that some people do not understand how this sort of business works and they expect things that are not really a part of the business model. I remember Sam White and respect him and his family for what they have created.

Brian: Called today to order mulch delivery. The lady acted like she couldn’t be bothered to take the call. I kept trying to schedule a mulch delivery and she kept responding with a barely audible ok and a very awkward silence. She never attempted to ask what type of mulch or where I would like it delivered. It was very weird. I ended up using Landscape Express in Roslindale and they were very helpful. I use to use Sam White a lot and I liked them, it’s to bad.

Michelle Ocana: I have used this company multiple times to deliver mulch and compost. I think they are great. The older woman on the phone is not super polite but she isn't rude either, just short. They have some younger people on the phone now and they are all pleasant in their phone ,manners. Delivery of the product is what counts. They always delivery what I want when they say they will and dump the load where I ask them. Even when I'm not at home. It's great.

Noreen O'Shea: Ordered seasoned firewood 12/21, fourteen months ago. It has been properly stacked outside, brought inside days to weeks before it needs to be used and still doesn’t light, charred and very Smokey. Used firestarters, kindling and packaged wood from the supermarket to get it going. Nothing works.Called to see if they had any other suggestions or if they had been having a problem. Spoke with Chris, wood manager, very rude, abrupt and argumentative. Very poor customer service.

Neal Perlstein: We went in to try and match paver stones that our contractor couldn't find. The previous contractor had given us the wrong manufacturer and style. We showed up one morning with a sample of what we had and showed Wes the stone we were trying to match. Without hesitation, he identified the manufacturer and style and assisted us in finding and gathering the last remnants they had in stock. Later on that day I called to see if they had any more available and he said he had found another pallet and would set it aside for us. I can't believe how helpful he was and highly recommend him to anybody looking for great knowledgeable customer service.

Not from this property I say came in the mulch. Hundreds of weeds. What a waste of time money and effort. I won't be back. Clearly they don't care about quality.

Michelle Reny: Fire wood delivery was a disaster ! Dope dumped it in front of the 2 car garage doors! Couldn’t get cars in until we moved all this f-in wood! My Instructions said ,side of garage !!! Soaking wet wood not seasoned , smoked the house up. Not useable until it dries out ! Pieces so large they could have been split 3 more times. I couldn’t even lift them! The guy on the phone was very nice and attempted to help and gave us some dry wood and starter sticks ! Nightmare ! Get kiln dried or nothing at all ! Pray they place it here you want it ! Ugh

Julie Kemp: While there are numerous places for landscapers to purchase materials and supplies, the same is not so true for homeowners. I've been coming to Cornerstone for the last few years for all of my landscape needs. Everyone at Cornerstone is friendly and greets me by name when I walk in the door. No job is too small for them. I have had yards and yards of loam delivered (exactly to the spot I wanted) and I had my personal pick-up loaded with as little as a half yard of stone dust or mulch. They have tons of different materials for that project you've had in your mind. They can even recommend a local landscaper if you aren't feeling up to tackling a job yourself!
