Roger Russell: This is a hard review to write, because I don’t know where to begin, except to say that, if you’re buying firewood bundles, kindling or fireplace implements, any place besides, Adams fireplace, you’re out of your mind!Don Adams, the owner, is THE nicest and most genuine human being I’ve ever had the pleasure of connecting with. Professional, honest, and fair. He referred me to a great outfit for firewood delivery (Northeast nursery in Peabody) on the notion that they are the place that delivers quality wood at very reasonable prices. I have not been disappointed.Half of the fun of shopping at Adams fireplace is hanging out and chatting with Don. I can’t say enough about this man and his establishment. Go check him out.

Mike Vozzella: Company was very responsive to our call . The technnician, Alex found the problem and gave us a temporary solution until the new part could be installed. He was a pleasure to work with and very helpful.
Candace Miller: This is the first review I have ever written. John the service guy finally called me back after 2 weeks of back and forth calls. He had immediate attitude on the phone and asked how I got his number (he called me first from an inquiry on the Heatilator website). As if I wasn't in the right to be calling him. He sounded super annoyed to even be on the phone.He tells me it will be 325 just for the visit, not counting any other parts or additional service. We made an appointment for March 9th. I asked about the cancellation policy (if we found someone sooner) which is a totally normal question. He gave me a very rude response as if he was chastising me for even asking. Being a customer that wants my fireplace fixed in a timely manner and given his past response rate I don't think it was an abnormal question to ask.I had a bad feeling from the start of the call from his attitude alone. Go elsewhere for your fireplace needs.it’s unfortunate because the first guy that called me from black magic chimney to set me up with John could not have been nicer.

I called back to schedule an onsite appointment, confirmed it and was no-showed. I then rescheduled, confirmed, and received an email that the person there was unsure of when my appointment was hours before it was set to happen. I called + emailed - confirmed with contact that they would show up at the end of the day and was no-showed again.

Lisa: Terrific. I had two previous guys come to look at my chimney problem. Let's just say each of those earlier two had major red flags going on. With Black Magic, they picked up the phone immediately, made an appt for 2 days later, showed up on time, and did an amazing job identifying options. Basically I need chimney caps, but my house has a roof that would need scaffolding to install those, so he just said, "It would be less for you to hire a roofer than for us to do the scaffolding." This is so rare-- someone letting go of a business opportunity to do the right thing by way of the customer. I was so impressed. He also took a look at my chimney liner (which another guy said I needed to have replaced asap, but which is only a year old). Black Magic said, no need to do it now, just have it looked at in 5 years; it likely will last at least 10. He was truly outstanding, knowledgeable, honest, and pleasant!

Afshin Beheshti: All the negative reviews are true about Black Chimney. When you initially go in before they have your money, they are friendly and even come over your house to consult. But once they get your money it is impossible to get a hold of them and they never return your calls. I dealt with Larry and he was friendly at first, but after the deposit it was almost impossible to get a hold of him. Not to mention he gave all the wrong information on the size of the fireplace and how much space it will take up. Luckily our contractor went over and got the right specs, but that even took the sales people at the store an hour to find. For people who claim to do this for a living, they know as much as I would if I spent a day searching the web... Luckily they installed everything on the right date, but my contractor realized that they didn't even level the fireplace... Stay away from this company. They are EXTREMELY frustrating to work with, incredibly hard to get a hold of on the phone or by email, and the sales people are obviously not very knowledgeable on actual fireplaces... This company really needs to train it's staff with better customer service skills...

After calling, emailing, and visiting their store multiple times, I still have not received my chimney cap or a refund. They stole my money and have no intentions of delivering the product. This is a badly run, dishonest business.
steve wilson: I do not recommend going to Black Magic Chimney in Cambridge, MA.I purchased a pellet stove, which they said would be installed 1-2 weeks after payment and ordering from their supplier. For 2 months, after ignoring phone calls and emails, they finally replied saying they were "busy." 3 weeks later, they brought the wrong stove to my home.It took almost 2 more months of calls and emails to get them back...I dealt with the owner, Perry who doesn't seem to have both oars in the water. stay away from this place....

Brian Hoffman: The unit was good at a reasonable price. The installer and retailer work separately although assigned by the retailer. My installation experience was awful with damage and rude interactions. The retailer claimed independence and told me I needed to work it out with the installer.
Bob Stalker: Last August I purchased a Peterson Gas Log Set at “The Fireplace and Grill Shop”. Paid nearly $1200.00. They order it from their supplier and it came into the store in October. I called the plumbing company recommended by the shops owner (Larry) to install the new gas line to the logs. After the plumber evaluated my situation, he said it would cost me several hundred dollars to install. Because of this and other expenses, I decided not to go ahead with the installation. I called the shop owner to inform him of this and he told me that they don’t refund money. This was not a special order product and should have been refundable. I was never told I could not return these logs if problems arose and it was not written on my receipt. I suggested to the owner that he simply sell these logs to another costumer. Once he sold the logs he could then credit my charge card. He agreed with this and said he should be able to do this by the end of the year, but this did not happen. After talking with him again, he was certain that he would sell them by spring. Once again this did not happen. I had to call him again and he said he wanted to look over his paper work and would get back to me by phone. He has not returned my call. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and he did not respond to them. This is not an accredited business with the BBB and obviously for a good reason. I’m now out the nearly $1200.00 and I don’t even have the logs. Customer service does not exist at this business. Once they get your money they do not care. This is a despicable place to do business that should be avoided.
Kristen Kaminski Mallin: We purchased a gas fireplace a year ago and it STILL doesn’t work correctly. The contractor recommended by Larry, the store owner, screwed up the entire installation process and we were forced to start over from scratch. When the unit was finally in place, the remote wouldn’t pair with the receiver (rendering the fireplace useless) and Larry will not answer or return our calls. We now have a $4.5k gas fireplace that doesn’t work. This entire experience has been horrible.

Jim Perry: i had a fireplace installed by their installer. Store contacts basically telling me what day the installer is going to do it even though it wasn’t convenient for me on that day. Installer charged $750 to install a liner and set fireplace into chimney. Literally took less than an hour. Installer didn’t pull a permit. I got two different stories between store and installer why they didn’t pull a permit and had I to get the building department involved. For $750 just for the labor and my opinion of the work was unsatisfactory even though the inspector signed off on it.
Glenda Thomas: I place a grill cleaning service request the end of April 2018. Called in the end of May and was told that they were busy putting together the new grill orders and they would call me back. Visit the shop in late June/early July and an appointment was finally scheduled. The brand of my grill was not one sold by Westport. I had new burners to be installed. They said that if they could, they would install the new burners, which they did. The cleaning job was absolutely ridiculous bad. They never touched the grease draw. Basically, their cleaning was limited to scraping the grates. The came back to clean the grease tray which consisted of them emptying it into the trash. No wiping of the tray. I paid them without really complaining because they did install the burners. Although, I felt the owner should be made aware of how bad the cleaning service was. When I stopped in to let him know. His response was that’s what happens when you hire high school kids. When I was trying to find the pictures to show himHow bad the cleaning job was, he told me not spoil his day with the pictures and basically asked me to leave his shop.I normally would not write a bad review, but I feel that he does not really care about servicing his customers. I would not recommend buying a product from Westsport, if you are looking for them to service it.
crichardrn: NEVER GO HERE !!!!!! I bought a grill in august of 2017. They delivered it, set it up, I used it for a party, and I was so happy. When I went back to use it again, I opened the bottom to turn on the gass and grease was everywere. They had negected to deliver the grease tray and grease trap. Then I took a closer look at the rest of the grill and noticed that the grill grates were worped and didn't sit flat. They swore they would order the parts, they swore it was on the way. After waiting 9 months, they finally replaced the grill with a different less expensive one with less bells and wistles. Worst of all, I had to keep calling them, they never returned my calls, they never reached out to let me know of delays... horrible service and products
Charles Kiefer: Super-pleasant and VERY knowledgeable owner. Price was very fair in my opinion. They assembled, delivered and removed the old grill. The delivery staff (I think high schoolers) were competent, knowledgeable and represented their employer very well.

WILLIAM MCDERMOTT: I had some problems with a grille that was purchased elsewhere,couldn't get a straight answer from that business,so I found the FS&G center on line. I went there,explained my problem and Larry(the owner) promptly had a fix for it. I am now and will always be a happy customer.

David Pease: I love these guys! I had some pellet bags that were damaged during manufacturing and were water damaged. After burning 5 tons I had ten bags with saw dust. Brought them back and he gladly swapped them for ten new bags. These people are dedicated,knowledgeable and professional with the customer and customer service at the top of their priorities.
Elizabeth Mitchell: I had an amazing experience with this company, from start to finish. They were informative, accommodating, and were 2.5k more affordable then a competitor. I'm looking forward to using them again to install a second pellet stove in my addition. I have worked with other pellet stove companies in the past, and this company went out of their way to ensure every step, from purchase to installation, was smooth.

Miguel Torres: For the first time I write a review. I feel like I got scammed! I scheduled a service for my stove. Beware that most of the service is just a simple vacuum of the unit not much else. When I called in to ask the price of an annual service I was quoted 189. When I ask why was I just charged 219 for the service all she could say is that it probably went up. "Probably". When I asked to speak with someone who may know the actual cost of the service I was told I was speaking with the person.The service is contracted. The contractor informed me that he had to charge me the Hearth Work price. Hearthwork claims that it was the contractors price. I guess the price is dependent on how they feel.Moreover, there was an additional fee for location which increase the amount. Another charge that was never mentioned or made clear to the customer.I was charged whatever the contractor felt like charging at the time. When I called in to speak with someone I was informed that I would be blacklisted! LOL!!Again I have never wrote a review but when I allow someone into my house I am not expecting to get scammed. I could have vacuumed my stove myself and saved Hearth Work time black listing customer who question their services.
John Warden: My wife and I purchased a gas insert fireplace from Hearthworks in North Reading. The experience starting off was perfectly fine, although a bit challenging due to COVID and trying to time the order with our construction. We gave the store manager, Michael, a budget and the type of fireplace we wanted and he provided us a package (you have to buy a ton of parts and other kits – the fireplace doesn’t just come all together) which we agreed to. Fast forward a few weeks when we were ready for the fireplace and we get told they don’t have this model in stock even though we placed the order weeks in advance. We then had to scramble to come up with a new fireplace order that could actually be received in time and while Michael assured us the unit would have similar functionality, we ended up paying $500-$600 more for this unit because certain parts had to be ordered separately – he refused to let us pay the same price as the original unit we ordered. Additionally, he did not include a metal cap for our chimney, which he knew we would need, which ended up costing another $400 plus the cost of having the installers come back out to the property. One of the worst parts of the customer experience when getting a fireplace from Hearthworks is their subbing out of the install of the actual fireplace. We were only offered one installer (Spinosa Maintenance) and had a terrible experience with them (I have posted another separate review for this company). When we tried to contact Hearthworks about the various issues we were having with the installation they tried to distance themselves from the installer claiming the companies were not connected even though this is the only company they offered to install our fireplace!! It’s just a bad customer experience. They sell you a fireplace and then do absolutely nothing to help make sure your fireplace is installed and working correctly. It’s terrible customer service. If I ever buy another fireplace again it will not be from this company and I recommend others stay away as well.

Went with wood insert for efficiency and safety and have concerns if installed properly. Crew came out month before to inspect fireplace and chimney and still were unprepared. Excellent product, with 200 lb of cast iron which lives up to product name. Will last forever!Michael was completely knowledgeable about his products, and quick to provide accurate, detailed answers to my questions. He readily sorted through the maze of possible venting solutions and provided all the required bits and pieces to make the installation work.The showroom is very impressive, with many stove products on display, with a number of them able to be fired up and demonstrated.All in all, this is testimony to why one should buy from a local small business. They have the product knowledge and know-how to make the purchase a pleasure.

I was greeted with a friendly voice and a smile. Their showroom is stunning. It is full of so many different products, with so many different options; fireplaces, outdoor furniture, fire pits, pellets and accessories. It is very clean and well taken care of.The store manager, Michael, was very professional and knowledgeable in all the products. He didn't try to talk me into something I didn't need. He listened and guided me through my purchase. My procrastination led me to make my purchase right before I needed it and I am sure it was in the height of their busy time. The delivery timeframe was straight forward and they did not disappoint. Kayla/Kalaa was responsive and helpful with the status of my with my order. She went out of her way to check with the home office that it had been shipped and assured me she would let me know when it was received....and she followed through. The installers they used were skilled, clean and they even showed us all the ins and outs on how to operate out unit.I am extremely happy with my purchase and the service I received. What really got me was that when trying to return a surround that went with a $700 unit (because it didn't fit), the attitude of the guy that worked there was very poor, and bordered on rude. The older gentleman tried to brainstorm a solution, while his younger counterpart was blunt and short. He simply said no returns. It had not been used or damaged. Maybe he is overwhelming and maybe this is policy, but after buying multiple units and receiving this service, I look forward to never going back. Unfortunately this is one of the only places nearby to buy some of the high end products, which is why we tolerated the service in the past. Not again.

Steve Durante: Wish I read the reviews first. 750.00 for a repair that failed immediately. Heat n Glo is also no help.

Helen Mulvey Connors: I am shocked at the service from this store. I went into the store intending to purchase am insert for my fireplace. The man who worked in the store was on the phone when I came in. No eye contact from him I waited and then looked around the store. I was most certainly in the store for more than 2-3 minutes. I came back to the front of the store. He was still on the phone. He did look up and pull the phone away from his ear and shrugged his shoulders and continued talking. The man on the other end of the phone was talking so loud I could hear him. At one point he was talking about his lawyer he had to get. I asked him are you going to be long. No response. Eventually I walked out.A few days before I was on their site and signed up for a coupon. The next day after being in the store I got an email from them about using the coupon. I responded back with my experience. This was the response from the man who was there.“i was the man on the phone. there was no talk of a lawyer, i certainly did make eye contact and signal that i would be a minute. you came in and were here a total of 2-3 minutes and walked out you are correct in assuming that if you are that impatient we dont need your business . we have been in business for over 35 years so we obviously know how to satisfy our customers. maybe you are not the type person who can be satisfied. im sorry i didnt immediately hang up on my other customer and bow down to kiss your feet...”Lovely! Who would want to do business with someone like that. Glad I found out just how Custoer Service friendly there were before I made a purchase.
David Rashad: Just don't go there don't buy from them you will be disappointed .Bought a unit from there last winter,the fireplace unit work for one month and then I had a problem wasn't working . keep calling them ,giving us the runaround have to wait for parts and then four weeks later The parts supposed to get here I called left a voicemail nobody call you back no respond fireplace still not working parts still not here this is my experience with them.Don't stand behind the product customer service horrible
