I shouldn't have worried : Mark was the picture of professionalism. He apologized and immediately offered to re-do the entire thing for free. It could not have been cheap for him. But we were so relieved. We've had bad luck with contractors, and Mark could easily have just shrugged and said "not my problem!" since we had already paid. Not Mark.
