Kung Fu & Tai Chi Academy of New England: what do users think?
Nick Antanavica: Very good with the kids
Rob McD: Great place to learn. Great people to learn from
jim F.: First of all .....Sifu Gary is "the man". He has spent the last 20 years building and developing his talent and reputation in the business and martial arts community. He is a genuine person and excellent teacher. Sifu Gary teaches Thai chi and chi gong at local senior centers around Worcester county in addition to running his school. By the way, did I say he was "the man", if you don't believe me stop by the Millbury, Sutton or Holden senior centers, the people LOVE him. In April he hosts world Thai Chi day, which is an incredible event. Stop by the school, bring your son, daughter, better half or grandmother. The floor is usually filled with all types, shapes, sizes and off course personalities LOL.Footnote . If like fishing or eating, this is also the place.
Matt Simpson: Now entering my 10th year as a Student of Sifu Gary Lachapelle, I can vouch for the quality and integrity of his school. He's great with kids and adults, is an excellent teacher with decades of experience, provides a complete curriculum of Kung Fu & Tai Chi with very deep traditional roots, and is a very well-networked leader within the New England Martial Arts Community. Anyone who wants a great workout, or discipline and training, or who is wanting to become thoroughly educated in Chinese Martial Arts would find a great home in this school. Plus, the community of Students is truly friendly and active. Thank you, Sifu Gary!
Cindy Chestna: My son is 13 and loves going to Kung Fu and has learned so much from Sifu Gary. They teach discipline, integrity and teamwork along with self defense. It's been great!
Chrisitne MacManus: I am so happy to be a part of this school. I have been a student there for almost 2 years now and have learned so much.
christian jansen: Great place to learn quality martial arts. Sifu Gary is an exceptional teacher making things easy to understand and classes enjoyable. Everyone there is welcoming and a good environment to learn in.
Derek Burke: I've been bringing my son there for several months now and we love it. The atmosphere is great, the kids love it and we plan on staying for a while
Kevin G. Cox: My experience at this school under the guidance of Sifu Gary has changed my life. I cannot imagine the time, effort and mental gymnastics Sifu Gary puts into each and every student under his wing. If you are looking for a teacher that not only knows the history and lineage of Hua Quan, but who also can run a fun and disciplined class then New England Kung Fu and Tai Chi Academy n Auburn is the place you have been looking for. I absolutely recommend, to the highest degree, this art for anyone who is looking to train their body and master themselves under the guidance of Sifu Gary. First class is free, come check it out for yourself!
Michael Renner: I have studied under Sifu Gary LaChapelle for about three years now, learning both the ancient and beautiful Hua Chuan long fist style of kung-fu & the Yang style of Tai Chi Chuan. I can't say enough positive things about our school. As a "high-mileage" adult, I always feel better physically and have a more positive mentality when I finish classes with Sifu Gary. I highly recommend the Kung Fu & Tai Chi Academy Of New England to everyone. Come on in and try a free class. I assure you, you won't be sorry you did.
james davis: I am 41 and just recently started attending class at NETCKF ....great school with all levels of experience..... great cardio with alot of smiles .... you ll be achy tomorrow in spots you never knew existed Lol. Come along for the the ride.....if your thinking it might be for you it probably is. Hope to see you in class. J
luc nguyen: We have nothing but positive things to say about Kung Fu & Tai Chi Academy. Both my son and daughter have attend this school since 2011. We've had a great experience with this school. It is a family run business and they make sure everyone is welcome and enjoy their learning experience. Sifu Gary and Sije Cheyenne are great teacher and they are part of our family.
Kevin Simpson: I've studied martial arts with five different teachers before meeting Sifu Gary LaChapelle and I have to admit, he is one of the best I've ever worked with. He makes Kung Fu and Tai Chi achievable for a person of any age or ability. In the five years I've been studying with him, I've seen him connect with everyone, each time in a meaningful way. He truly loves what he gets to teach and enjoys sharing it at every opportunity. With so much variety in long fist kung fu, I can see why he loves it. His passion is infectious.
Kelly Fiore: My son has been practicing Kung fu for over 10 years. Sifu Gary is one of the best teachers around. The higher black belts at the school are very welcoming and always willing to help out. This is truly our second home and second family.

Life Skill Martial Arts: what do users think?
Ahad: After a trial class with Fred Basantes’ son, Owen, I enrolled my 4 year old January 1, 2023. Throughout January, I took him twice a week, despite his unwillingness to go, and got on mat with instructors to encourage him. I thought he may be too young, but gave him time. In February, we were out of town for a week, he was sick for a week, and the two weeks we were able to go, he watched from my lap on the chair. He refused to go on the mat, and refused to participate a single time entire month. I paid throughout February despite that. In March, Fred asked me to bring him in for a 15 min private class with his son Owen. Owen sat in chair next to us and talked to my son, but again, my son refused to engage or go on mat. I asked Fred to show me how to cancel. He gave me a card with a barcode. I scanned it, went back inside and reconfirmed I was sending email correctly. Yet they still to this day (this morning) are charging me for lessons my son has never received and will never receive. If I could go back, I would not have attended the trial or enrolled him here. Writing review to ensure nobody else is unwittingly charged for lessons / services not received.Update: It is now May 2023, my son has not participated in a lesson since January 2023, and charges keep reappearing every month. 3 months of recurring charges after ending classes.
Souadatou Diallo: After a month, we are leaving the place. Disrespect is not tolerable. Equally and considation are keys.
Carl Aframe: I’m learning and just trying to get more understanding
Mallory Shocik: My son joined LifeSkills a few months ago and has gained so much confidence in such a short time. Not only do they teach the kids self defense techniques but they teach them about manners, respect, kindness and loyalty. Their leadership class encourages more socialization and confidence in public speaking. I am thrilled with everything I have seen so far, and rave about LifeSkills to everyone I know!
Tim Sheldon: My son and daughter attend Life Skill MA. They learn practical self defense that can be used in real life scenario's along with learning social and emotional skills. You can tell that the instructors are trying their best day in and out at a very consistent level. They offer a lot of classes through out the week at multiple times which is very convenient for busy families. If ever a billing issue occurs, they quickly resolve it. I would definitely say that it's worth checking out their after school program and summer programs as well, they are competitively priced.
King S: Bewareeeee... Too much of marketing gimmicks and traps you to join even though you just go to Enquiry. Lots of Facebook marketing, offer you a trial class. Once you go that’s it you are trapped like a mouse :D
karen ogassian: My Grandson attends Life Skills. He has become more confident, less shy, and has a don't quit attitude. He has developed GRIT! The instructors work so well with the children. He would go every day if he could! Thank you Tem Life Skills!
veronica girouard: Love the place friendly
Stephanie Hilow: Gavin has really gained confidence in himself through martial arts and he is learning more responsibility as well. He also likes to lead his Dad and I in class at home for practice..
Angelica Cardoso: My son has been one year at Life Skill and I'm so glad to see his development. He struggles to keep focus and attention and he has gotten better and better! In addition, I'm grateful for the extra help that Mr. Basantes gave my son while he couldn't follow along with the group classes, so he started with private classes, and now he can join the group and follow the instructions.
Rachyl Sargent: Positive:ProfessionalismI am so impressed with with their quality of training. Also how they make every child feel special. They do not just teach your child how to protect themselves but show them self esteem, honor and family.... Bravo Owen 💕
Alicia Suz: I highly recommend Life Skill Martial Arts to people of all ages and abilities. The founder of Life Skill, Mr. Stan Tabor, is a gold metal winner who has spent extensive time traveling the world and studying many different martial arts styles. He and his instructors have established an open and welcoming martial arts school that uses a holistic and comprehensive and evidence-based approach to teaching.I have studied Tai Chi with Sifu Tabor for two years and I enjoy his detailed and encouraging teaching style. Since starting Tai Chi my balance, strength, and endurance have improved and I found that the benefits carried over into my other sports (skiing & running). I’ve also learned that Tai Chi is a moving meditation practice and as a result my concentration and ability to control my emotions have improved.Whether you’re interested in the intensely physical art of Kung Fu, or the more gentle arts of Tai Chi and Qui Gong, I very much recommend you and/or your kids give the team at Life Skill a try. You know, they might change your life for the better, as they have mine.
Josh Morin: Great place to learn for the whole family. I have been studying here since 1999 and all three of my children haven been students here. My youngest is 9 years old and has. Been since he was 3 years 11 months old and loves it. From the after school Martial Arts program to the family classes, summer camps, various events and parties they have it all. I would highly recommend you check out Life Skill Martial Arts for you and your family there is something for everybody Tai Chi, Kung Fu, Anti Bullying, Self Defense, and Life Skills. Check it out!!
Carl Lindberg: This review is largely about LSMA business practices and person responsible for them. It's a problem.I'm in nearly the same "billing hell" boat as Shana - the other bad review on FB atm. In short, you need to cancel 2-billing cycles/charges ahead of when you actually want to cancel your membership. 💰I'd intended to take a break in July & gave verbal notice on 6/30 but was told I need to give 30 days written notice per the "real" contract. So while I gave written notice on 7/1, because my billing cycle starts on the 7th, I got charged AGAIN today July 28. We just wanted to take a break for July... but here we are paying through mid-August. 💸The trial contract and "real" contract terms differ. Frankly, it's kinda deceitful & the communication with the "biz person" has been terrible. While we signed up in April, I didn't receive a copy of my "real" contract until July 7th. They didn't respond to emails on 7/7 nor 7/28, nor made any attempt to explain when I called on 7/28. I only just figured out how billing works and how they keep you roped in at least a month longer than you probably want. 😷They have a phone app to "manage your membership" as mentioned in the contract, however, if yer on an iPhone, it's useless. You can't actually manage your membership, change payment methods, initiate new services or cancel old. Seems like breech of contract... 📵Meanwhile, be aware of regular upselling every class and more. We were texted a request for a "meeting" on an off-night from our usual class, which we scrambled to get to given little notice, thinking something was wrong with our son or his progress. Come to find out, they just wanted to give us a sales pitch for the leader$hip program. 🙄I should mention the incessant texts & emails that you'll receive when you first request information. You'll receive both automated texts and "real" texts from the biz person from the same phone number. We made the mistake of requesting info just before Easter and the texts came daily, fast and furious even AFTER we signed up. One hand apparently not talking to the other. 👋I was warned by Millbury locals about what they called "the cult" and I've talked to other parents of students who've shared similar stories about their frustrations with constant upselling, poor communication and billing concerns.Since sharing my frustration & dissatisfaction with the "biz person" via phone, I've since been blocked from the FB group, by the president/owner (which might be a dummy account run by the biz person) and the biz person herself. Out of respect I'm not naming names. 🛑That said, the program is GREAT. It provides real value to the students. The young instructor has been tremendous working with my son and I appreciate how well he works with very large groups of younger kids at varying levels. 👦 👧The crux of my frustration is with this biz person and how LSMA does business. As long as yer paying, everyone's happy... but when you decide to take a break or quit, expect to pay 1-2 months longer than you intend. Maybe this is just (business) growing pains for LSMA or what they need to do to survive, but regardless, it's not for us. Not anymore.Ps: you might notice a lot of LSMA social media posts. Didn’t expect my kid to be featured in FB & Instagram photos and videos when we signed on. But you’d think they’d at least get his name right even after being corrected months ago. 🤯Pps: Just got another upsell text from Lifeskill yesterday despite cancelling. Under the guise of it coming from the owner no less. Unreal. 😡
Evelyn Sandoval: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,QualityStaff is super friendlyMy son loves this placeThey do a great 👍🏼 Place Is clean and hey keep the kids safe
Stanley Tabor: Positive:Professionalism,Quality
Stephanie Almon: We could not be happier with our Life skills experience. Our son has embraced the lessons and activity with enthusiasm I never expected. Learning here is far beyond kicks and punches, it’s truly a whole life building experience. My son is strong and confident and looks forward to class with a phenomenal group of people. I take every opportunity to talk about how much we love what The Life Skills team is doing and could not recommend a better environment for anyone.
Laxmi Ed Rachelxxffcc: Positive:QualityVery friendly place to practice martial arts. Incredible staff and atmosphere.
Dana Tessicini: I have been coming here for taiji for almost 20 years. I love this place. The instructional quality is unsurpassed. Master Tabor is one of the best martial artists anywhere. Besides being super skilled in martial arts, his classroom demeanor and personality is great! He makes it very enjoyable to be there and learn. The other students are all nice.I have been to other schools but have found this place by far to be the best.
Troy Allard: This is one of the most authentic martial arts studios in the area. The owner has annual trips to China with the students, where he has established deep roots thru the years. Life Skills believes teaching character, integrity, and leadership for the next generation is a necessity. Lastly, I just think the bamboo garden is a nice aesthetic, and brings home how environmentally, and culturally sound this place truly is.
Jonelle Garofoli: My children have learned so much from this martial arts, such as control, discipline, leadership and focus. I couldnt be happier with how my son's behavior has been in school, which needed to match his academic excellence that he was gifted with. My daughter needed to come out of her comfort zone and apply her new confidence to her already incredible personality and intelligence. I couldnt be happier! thank you all so much!

M Kilroy: Fantastic martial arts studio! The intructors know how to bring out the best in people. I've witnessed amazing growth over time in my boys due to the instructors and the program.
Lisa Chace: We like Metrowest Martial Arts and would recommend it to other local families. The kids are challenged and learn a lot, but have fun at the same time. They find friends from town and also make new friends in class that they look forward to seeing each week. The waiting area is clean and sound proof which is very nice for parents observing with younger siblings. Movie nights at the Dojo are great too!
Bill Chace: This is a great school for any age. I join in the adult class and two of my kids aged 7 and 10 have been students for over a year in the kids classes. There are a number of great teachers who all provide a different exercise and learning opportunity. Definetely a fun place to work out and learn karate!
Lisa Allen: Master Gallo is an exceptional martial artist and teacher. He has a unique way of balancing traditional karate lessons (through age-appropriate programs -- junior black belt program/teen/adult program) with fun (games, birthday parties, movie nights). Metrowest Martial Arts is so much more than just another after school activity!
Brandi Phillips: I have had great experiences with Metrowest Martial Arts and Wellness over the past four years. Everyone in our family has attended programs there and my step-sons absolutely loved the youth programs!
