Sarah Hubbard: Really disappointing experience and unfortunately the worst massage I’ve ever had. I’m not one to leave bad reviews, but this was just such a bummer and no where near worth the price.Had *really* been looking forward to my visit here— I booked and paid online as a treat for my birthday, when I arrived they didn’t have the appointment I had booked. They were nice about offering a later time in the day and offered a float session, but was a bummer to rearrange the day.I’ve never had a bad massage before, but unfortunately this was really really disappointing. Most of the time was spent just laying there with really long transition times between everything. Each area would get a few light strokes and then be over... I think I spent more time just laying there than I did getting a massage. I also asked for a few focus areas and they maybe got 1 min. No where near worth the price. I’m walking away feeling like I didn’t get a massage at all :(

Eve Sinclair: Absolutely making Balans part of my wellness routine. The setting is intimate and very comfortable -- especially the rocking chairs. The neighborhood itself (Back Bay) is a cultural experience in itself. The Staff is welcoming, pleasant, and patient. Lucas, my massage therapist, worked the heck out of my problem areas! AND an "OMG, YESSS!" to the flotation room -- this experience should be in every spa. Alas, it is not. So work your way to Balans. You will Not be disappointed. A must visit!

Zara I: The front desk was extremely rude when I asked to book an appointment with Dazirae, who is the main reason the salon won best of Boston for facials this year. The owner is extremely shady and does not treat her employees well. The environment in the salon is tense and the employees are visibly under watch by the extremely overbearing manager. Overall uncomfortable vibe created by the owner of the spa. They lost three of their best employees last month and Balans Organic Spa is no longer worth the astronomical price tag because of that. Spend your money at the numerous other places that offer the same services in a better environment.

Lauren Rohr: I was lucky enough to have been gifted the “ultimate relaxation” package for my birthday, and even luckier to have been matched with Kristen my first time here. She was extremely knowledgeable in our consultation and very easy to talk to. The massage was one of the best in recent memories and while I’m fairly new to the facial game, it flowed seamlessly from the massage and was delightful. The float afterwards was the cherry on top, and Kristen even found me after to apply extra product that I enjoyed using during the facial. Would recommend and will be going back soon!

When my husband asked why I thought that, the only thing I could think to say was “her skill.” I have had massages in some of the most wonderful spas in America and I can honestly say this was the best. Too bad Boston is so far from Houston, but I will definitely be back next time I’m in town.

They have charged my card twice for a tip when I gave them cash and added a little more to meet the 20% requirement. The massage did absolutely nothing for me. All they do is slap your body and press down on it. Over all, I would never go back and do suggest you don’t waste your time and money. If i could go back in time, I would just so I wouldn’t have to experience Balance Studio.

Aine King: Awful experience. Bought the couple deep tissue massage. The massage therapists barely even went into our muscles. Felt like they were trying to cause friction with rubbing our backs like a dog along with random smacking. Therapist left door open for a minute in the middle of massage while I was undressed on table and towel wasn’t covering me. Neither massage therapist communicated to us about sore spots, pressure level, or where we felt most tense. Not worth it at all. Spend the $20 extra somewhere else for an actual massage.

Tanner Wood: Worst massage I’ve ever received. You can hear the other coworkers have conversations right outside the room extremely loudly plus a ton of street noise as well. The massage was terrible as well. We got the couples deep tissue massage and they barely did any pressure. They also went in and out of the room numerous times during the massage and even switched masseuses at one point. I began my massage with a male masseuse then at one point looked up and now had a female masseuse which was so bizarre. Finally after receiving this terrible service i left a $20 tip and the man at the front desk straight up asked me for more money. This was the worst experience ive ever received i would avoid this place like the plague.

The fact that this is on newbury st in boston and has 4 stars is beyond me.I kept asking for a deep massage and she was just rubbing me giving an Indian rug burn i had to ask her to stop. They did not give me a massage, and when I tried correcting her she just kept doing the same thing.They stopped the massage 3 times because customers came in. And finished 10 minutes earlier than the hour. I told them it wasnt a full 60 min and asked for extra time since they stopped so much and they ended up just completing the 60 minutes.I was supper annoyed. And wanted to just leave. Did not get the relaxing experience i was looking for or a massage

The woman just kept rubbing lotion in rather than pressing into my body. The stone treatment was good. My partner enjoyed his massage a lot from the male. We did not experience being asked for 20% tip upfront like many other reviews. We paid too (20%) after the massage completed, and paid what we felt was fair. Great deal with the Groupon.

Conrad Miszczak: Girlfriend and I went for a couples deep tissue massage, we loved it! They found all of my painful spots in my back and helped me feel much better. The staff was lovely, the studio was clean, music was soothing, and was pleasantly surprised with the inclusion of hot stones in the massage. Would 100% come again and recommend this studio to anyone! :)

Alex Lowe: This is a quaint friendly massage place. It’s located on the 2nd floor of the corner building, there was a sign so finding it was no issue for my wife and I. They were nice, and the massages were okay to good. The man has very firm pressure even painful in some areas, but never held one spot for so long to be aggravating… except for the feet. There were a couple spots were I almost tapped out, but I work on my feet all day and just gritted through some painful holds. My wife said she wished the female masseuse put in more pressure. Overall I wouldn’t say it’s a very communicative process, but I did notice he focused on the knots in my left shoulder, which was great. I would say this is good place to give a try when you find a good Groupon price.

They did not even perform the correct massage even though it was spoken of over the phone prior to the appointment. Very unprofessional and poor massage experience overall

Erika Jones: From the moment I entered, all of my worries disappeared. I reserved an appointment for a facial with the bliss spa. First they showed me the locker room. They gave me a robe, sandals and led me to the waiting room. In there, there were stationary hors’duerves with teas for everyone. All relaxed from there on. My service was 75 minutes and every single part of it was so soothing and awesome. They started with an exfoliating microdermabrasion and ended with a super hydrating and nourishing mask. The products they used all smelled soooo delicious. It felt like the Soarin ride. I was riding around the world on a hang glider, smelling all the different, amazing scents of the world. This was the ultimate treat!

Johnny Chen: Had Vince as my therapist. He uses pressure points as a way massaging, not what I expected. I’m sure some people prefer that....just not what I was looking for.

Liz Essex: Loved my experience at Bliss. My fiance surprised me with a getaway to the city, and a trip to Bliss for my birthday. I had a massage it was amazing. We talked about my problem areas and it was the most relaxed I have ever felt. Afterwards you can use steam shower and shower to get ready for your day. Very comfy and cozy area. The receptionist were knowledgeable and helpful for purchasing products and they even gave me a birthday cupcake! I will definitely be back.

Chloe Thompson-Booth: Really disappointing experience. I have wanted a Bliss facial my entire life and was so excited to finally go. Facilities were lovely and it started out very nice and relaxing. When I met with my therapist she told me that I had picked the incorrect facial for my skin type and would therefore do a different facial which was a little cheaper but also a little shorter in length. She then spent the next hour upselling me various add-ons which I all of a sudden needed according to how my skin had reacted to other products. Surely she should have had a good idea in the first place about what would have worked since she was so sure my original choice was the wrong one. It was impossible to relax while she kept saying “you need this, it’s only an extra $30...” while I’m lying down with my skin covered in product. The option of add-ons should have been discussed up front so I wasn’t in the uncomfortable position of having to make decisions about adding more cost to an already expensive facial while also trying to relax. What’s more, these add-on services don’t actually buy you any more time on the beauty table, they just eat into your allotted hour, so I ended up paying $70 more than my original chosen facial cost for 15 minutes LESS time (as my original choice of the Tripe Oxygen Facial was 75 mins rather than 60). The therapist also spent a good 30 mins talking to me about her personal problems (I shouldn’t have told her I was a psychologist - although in hindsight, I could have been charging her for the session!). To add final insult to injury, when I went to pay the final price was more than expected because the therapist had mis-quoted the cost of some of the add-ons. The checkout staff were unapologetic and refused to check in with the therapist about the price she had quoted me and insisted I had to pay the price listed in their book. Another reason to select all your add-ons before treatment starts. I was at the spa with friends and we were all trying to have a relaxing morning, so I didn’t want to be the one causing a huge fuss, but in hindsight I should have spoken to the manager. It was a really unpleasant experience and at $245 for a facial I would have expected better. I will not return to a Bliss - I’ve had facials for a quarter of the price than have been significantly better quality. My advice? Don’t bother with Bliss!

Sarah Lee: Bliss indeed - I got a prenatal massage here from Drea and it was fantastic. They have a fantastic maternity pillow that lets you lay on your stomach and it's so supportive it makes you feel not pregnant. The spa is very clean, quiet, and the staff was very friendly and helpful.

Margaret-Ann Simonetta: Bliss Boston is the only salon/spa I trust with my nails, and trust me... I've tried many salons. They use CND Shellac, OPI, and Essie products, and the salon is always spotless in terms of cleanliness. Tao is my bi-weekly clinician and she is the BEST! I have also recieved facials and massages via this location as well, and the staff is always well trained and friendly.

Then she gave me wireless Beats headphones, so i could watch a movie on their ipad stand and a heated neck pillow. I'll def be back to see Alexis for my next mani/pedi. :)

Amy: Friendly staff who make you feel comfortable, with free tea while you're waiting. My clinician was easygoing and made me feel comfortable in addition to providing great service. Gave 4 instead of 5 stars as Bliss in general has been having issues with their website and it's really difficult to make an appointment online - but I imagine as a company-wide issue, it will get figured out eventually (I hope). When that happens, 5 stars.

Devoted Mcmill: I work across the street from this Spa. I often walk by it as I have a regular nail technician. Today, April 28th, shortly after noon, I decided to give it a try. I was greeted by a very friendly young lady at the front desk who informed me that I would need to go to the second floor for my nail needs. She pressed for the elevator and accompanied me. I walked towards the receiving desk and noticed that she was busy with a client. The receptionist acknowledged me and said she would be right with me. Well, when that client left, she continued looking at her computer and stapling receipts. Another young lady walked by and while she smile didn't offer to assist. Now there were two behind the counter. They chatted with each other. All the while the other one kept her eyes on the computer screen. Then another customer came out and she immediately asked to help her. She preceded to do that and once again when the client left she went back to looking at receipts and stapling them. It was as if neither one of them wanted to assist me. Maybe, I became invisible? No, this is what I think. I am black and I don't think either one wanted to wait on me because of that. Why do I say that. Because the other clients that they so quickly waited on were not Black. I will now tell all of my co-workers and friends about their ignorance, unprofessional and unfair prejudicial treatment that I received. As I was leaving the young lady on the first floor asked if they were able to help me. I told her no and sadly,. I think it's because of the color of my skin. Because my money is green. I can't be the first one to experienced this? Any way, I rate them as the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I have EVER received in any customer service establishment in the State of Massachusetts. I'll continue walking on by.....

Michael Bootier: The customer service at Bliss spa is absolutely dreadful. Traveling from out of town, my wife and a friend attempted to book a massage together. In the midst of the booking process, my wife's friend noticed that she had an allergy to the products used. The website recommended that she not book a massage, and she did not. My wife, however, completed the booking, only to later learn of this issue.The massage was booked late on a Saturday evening for a Sunday evening appointment. First thing Sunday morning, my wife tried to cancel the massage. She did not feel comfortable traveling by herself in a strange city. The staff was completely unsympathetic and refused to offer any accommodation.The spa did not suffer any loss. This was not an appointment that was booked months prior, precluding others from booking the slot. It is quite clear that Bliss spa in Boston, and particularly, Flavia, the manager, do not care about the comfort or well being of their customers. Instead, they only care about profits, regardless of the customer experience.It remains to be seen if the corporate managers at Bliss are equally callous.

Intensive is a great descriptor, my body was beat by Tuesday night but my brain was full and I feel more and more confident in my skills each time I go through the routine. Tania Fabo: This review is based on the experience of my sister who had an absolutely horrible experience. They treat black people especially poorly over here. Manager is quite rude and definitely needs to practice his customer service skills. Front desk employee needs to stop stereotyping black women (look at the racist response they wrote below to her review, stereotyping her as yelling and aggressive when she was in fact speaking very calmly). All she wanted was a massage and instead she got treated like she was nothing.

These people did not communicate their policies to us at all, and turned us away when we came when they said we could come. BUT mind you still charged us $320 for a service we never received. That massage made me feel better than all the visits to the chiro. I've never been a huge chiro adjustment believer anyway, this massage was Exactly what I needed. Tania Harsono: I had a 90 min Thai massage with Jeff, he did a great job! All my muscles were sore + tender from climbing and the pressure/ stretches/ adjustments he did were expertly applied. Receptionist was friendly, she offered tea & water, and gave me my intake form (which Jeff read very carefully and asked me specific questions about before we got started). Pricey but not out of line with other Back Bay spas.

Barely greeted by the receptionist (who clearly didnt know how to set the mood for a spa experience), i then waited as my therapist was running late. At 7:15 she finally came out and I went into the therapy room, but I had to wait some more on the table.She gave me every impression that I was disturbing her and didnt care at all about my experience (talked loud, complained about her day, didnt ask me the usual pre massage chit chat…)THEN (wait for it) as I was face down on the massage table, i heard her say casually “oh by the way im gonna be using gloves today because i cut my finger cutting vegetables”I mean sure that sounds painful and I felt sorry but massage with platic gloves, really?! Especially without giving me any options - they should have given me a heads up upfront, as well as offer a discount.As I was already there, it proceeded, and I had the massage with her wearing plastic gloves, which obviously wasnt great. I asked her if it was painful and if she was ok and she said it was totally fine and she didnt feel the cut at all…They did extend the slot to make up for the delay (I came out about 8:10) but I was asked to pay full price…Anyhow - the lack of expectations management was obvious, the massage was mediocre, but above all, the style, vibe and delivery from the employees were really not that of a spa in my opinion. I will definitely NOT be coming back.

He asked for %25 tip which means more than $50! I payed for tip $26 and the guy was not satisfied and not welcoming. It smelled great, all the staff were nice, everything was clean, and the massage/masseuse were fantastic.Had to knock two while stars for pricing, one for not advertising it and the other for it being obscenely high. Costs can't be found online and I'm still in shock by the $172 I had to pay for a 90 minute session, BEFORE the tip and AFTER a 20% new customer discount. That's $50 more than other places around here and something I'd have checked had I been less trusting or less in need of the therapy while on travel.I'd love to say I'll be back but there's no way.

When she went in for her massage she was told that because she had been there before they would not honor the 20%. When I called and spoke with the manager he would not take care of the situation I explained that I was told by an employee that they would get the 20%. Very poor communication and customer service would not recommend!

Stephanie: This place is excellent when it comes to massage - the masseuses are very attentive and thorough! They really focus on the areas in which you ask them too. The massage experience is a 10/10.The only reason I don’t give it 5 stars is because they don’t have very much transparency in their pricing. When you’re paying such a high price there should be 100% upfront transparency in the cost. There was a discrepancy in the price I was asked to pay and what was stated on their sheet. It took some time to eventually get the issue resolved but these sort of things should be very clear from the beginning at such a high end establishment.

It has such a relaxing ambiance, and the owner has taken every possible safety precaution to mitigate the potential spread of COVID. I have had many services done here: mani/pedi, facials, massages, and they always hit the spot!

You will feel you're working out during Arasys (Toning) and you will sweat during Sudatonic (Slimming) - if you don't, you did not get what you paid for! Toning and Slimming is hard work.Manicure and Pedicure is professional, comfortable and private. They also offer quality products like shellacs.They also provide great deals! Must join their mailing list to get these offers better than Groupon and the likes. I think they did a good job- the place is small and relaxing, and the staff was very friendly and open. I got a great manicure, and I do think the facial improved my dry skin.

I've also had a facial and a body scrub there, and both were fantastic. I leave happy and relaxed, and I walk out to the smell of the sea, since I'm on the wharf, and delicious food, since I'm in the North End. What's not to love? Go pamper yourself at Adara!

Define lines are reduced, and Didi introduced me to a great product for sunscreen.Secondly, it was the most relaxing facial I’ve ever had. don byakuya: This experience was very frustrating. The massage wasn’t bad yet I didn’t get to enjoy the massage for the entire time as Lily ended before my time was up. This is unacceptable. I also peeped the reaction of Lily when it was time to cash out that tip. I felt uncomfortable making that transaction and hope she can cool out one day and just do her job.
