Healthworks Cambridge: what do users think?
Biella Coleman: Edit: Thrilled they are renovating the wet area. It is in serious need of it. I'm a member of all three and my preference is to go to the Cambridge location due to parking and as it is closer to me. As someone who really loves a good sauna after a workout I have to say the wet/sauna area is showing it's age and in spite of them being good a cleaning, they are less on top of leaks and it appears like there is mildew growing on some of the tiles in the shower area and they are not taking care of leaks as quickly as I would expect. I am very mold sensitive and am finding that I will likely have to stop using this facility given the leaks/mold. I pointed out the leak that is in the picture below a few weeks ago and it is still there (as of Friday at least). I find the BackBay/Brookline locker room facilities are in far better shape. It's just there is no parking and so they are much less convenient facilities. Otherwise it is a a great facility and runs well but having mold free gym and taking care of leaks quickly are of the essence for those of us who are mold sensitive :(
Carter Chamberlain: Ignore this review. Google maps won't stop advertising Healthworks and rating it poorly is the only way to de-prioritize the recommendation. If the business paid for targeting advertising, they did so excessively and deserve this review.
T Lieberman: I've been really enjoying healthworks so far. I joined about 6 weeks ago, and have been really appreciating the frequent class schedule- including great challenging classes-, wide variety of equipment, sauna, clean locker room, and towel service. And great location. I now have a gym habit again after 18 years of trying occasionally and failing. The app for booking classes works really well, and I find that I can usually get the class I want. This is true even if a class initially looks booked, because of folks drop out on day of.One complaint would be that the gym says it is open until 9p but cleaners are working on the gym floor starting at 8p (though you can ignore them) and the sauna closes at 8:45p. It would be great to be truly open later. Another would be for the mics on the classes to be tested a little better, I often can't hear what the instructor is saying over the music.
Nicholas Coops: Professional staff
Adriana Azar: Nice, clean, great equipment, top facilities and classes. The only negative is how crowded it gets past 5.30pm. Other than that I love this place.
Sulafa Zidani: Giving this place two stars because they are charging way too much to have this kind of customer service. The location is great, however, they are non-responsive, and when they do respond, they talk down to customers. In my experience, they don't reply to emails, then on phone calls they'll say they will send information/forms via email and then never send it. There's also lack of transparency about charges during membership freeze, and that's another area where it seems patronizing and suspicious. For a place that's so expensive, this is unacceptable. I burned a lot more emotional energy than calories here, and I will be cancelling my membership.
Ash Blossoms: Do you love getting chased out of the gym at 8 p.m. to aggressive cleaners, an hour before the gym actually closes? Would you want to come here, every day, never complain once, then the one time you actually complain about something valid, have the general manager do nothing? Then this is the gym for you!
Stephanie Berk: Healthworks is the best gym. The staff, trainers, spa staff and classes are amazing. The facilities, showers, steam bath, sauna and locker room are amazingly clean, well maintained and a pleasure to use. I couldn't recommend this gym more highly. It is heavenly-
Tanya Raymond: Staff are extremely rude and talk down to their customers. I’ve been warned about this place by former members. I will be canceling my membership. This place charges a lot of money for a lot of services. Customer service isn’t one of them.
Adelaide B: Been going here for a few months. Was sort of aimless at first but then started training with Ian once a week. He helped me build a solid routine, taught me form and consistency and all the intricacies of strength training. He’s incredibly knowledgeable and very good at his job. Highly recommend his services for anyone who wants to get seriously strong!
Morenvino M: Gender discriminative gym! I booked a class through their partner website, and was only told it's women only gym after I got there. Total waste of my time
Laura Grace: Love this gym. All the pamper-y amenities, classes are included in membership (and they're amazing), and the community is super inclusive.
Joy Kucinkas: Joined this gym in January… love the location, trainers, steam room/sauna and all the machines and classes!
Brandon Wilson: Been a member of the Cambridge Healthworks gym for several decades and rate it very highly for lots of reasons, including many workout amenities, convenient location in Porter Sq. w. parking and many other key businesses of convenience, extended hours, design and cleanliness of Club space, and friendly and professional staff, mgt. and trainers. Tends to be pricey, but overall, worth it if can afford it. Like their Foundation that also reaches out to less advantaged populations.
monique mcnally: Responsive management , clean areas, great staff, amazing wet room. Also a great place to take classes and get a personal trainer or a massage! Well worth the money
Grace: Healthworks is amazing!!! I love the staff and the amenities are fantastic. Sometimes I just go for the sauna. They waived my cancellation fees when I moved across the country too!! Just a sign of a great community establishment. Healthworks is what I will miss most about Boston!
Lynn Chou: I just joined recently and have loved being a member at Healthworks! It has friendly staff, clean facilities, great classes, and an amazing hot tub and sauna, which is always great for a post workout soak. Healthworks also has terrific member benefits and other cool programs — digital fitness platform, personal trainers, and onsite massages. Definitely recommend! :)
Danielle W: Great value and excellent services offered. This is truly a luxury gym and the staff keep up worth that image! Taylor is a great personal trainer and would recommend her to people of all abilities!
Jenna Sunshine: REALLY GREAT GYM! It is slightly more expensive than what I was used to, but I get 20x more stuff for the price!Classes are my jam (Zumba, Barre, Body Pump, etc); My old gym was $73/ month but they only offered ~2- 3 classes per day.Healthworks has ~20-25 CLASSES PER DAY!! There is barely an hour where there isn't a class offered. And they have every sort of class imaginable as well as a great cardio area a ton of training tools (TRX, medicine balls, bands, etc) a decent, (albeit somewhat small) free weight area, a ton of weight machines, and let's not forget one of my favorite things: they have a hot tub! Just 5 mins in there after a workout takes away all my aches & pains. Their locker room is amazing with towel service, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, razors, shower caps, makeup removing wipes, hair dryers, a clothing steamer, vanity areas to put on makeup and do your hair. They have a pretty much nonstop locker room attendant that is always cleaning and restocking everything so it's a VERY CLEAN locker room (which is definitely not always the case with gym locker rooms!). They have personal trainers, massage therapists, child care, etc. At my old gym I rented a locker and they charged $32/month for it, so I was paying $105/month there anyway, and now I'm paying the same amount for a 10x the number of classes, and a ton more services and amenities. SO WORTH IT! I purchased the membership that enables me to go to their 3 other gyms as well but you can buy a membership to just one gym too. I got a free 2 week membership first to see if I'd like it, and there's absolutely no commitment to join after that; if you want me to help you get a free 2 week membership, just LMK!
Lisa Wood: I've been going here for a few years and have loved it. Lots of equipment, great classes, and I've never had to wait for a squat rack. Very clean and the staff is super helpful.Unfortunately, I've had to leave due to a move. The process to cancel is very painless and the membership associates go out of their way to make sure the process is quick and easy. Can't recommend this place enough.
J W: Predatory, they singed my 83 year old grandmother up when she walked by for a year and forced her to use her bank account versus a credit card. Made her sign a contract without giving her a copy of the contract. Scumbags.

Central Rock Gym: what do users think?
Jimi: Small but creative
Seth Jones: If you want to send hard, Cambridge is the place to be.
G F: Grading at this location feels more challenging than other gyms. As more of a beginner climber I felt there weren’t many routers for me.
Jack Smith: They don't have chalk bins here. Unlike the other bouldering-only crgs in the area
Alex Cole: Bestq CRG weight room. Graded like it's outdoor bouldering so come prepared
Yorgo Kennos: The best bouldering gym i’ve been to. Fantastic training facility, competition bouldering section. Sick spray wall, tension board, moon board and campus section. My go to gym when i’m not working on endurance, absolute gem of a gym.
Auj Welhof: Crg harvard is so fun!!! By far the best branch of crg. The staff are so welcoming and nice and now remember me by face and name. So much to do there, frequent updates and routes for many skill levels. I have had the best time there. They also have a variety of other workout equipment. would highly recommend going there is you want to try bouldering or already boulder and want to have a good time.
Michelle Dao: Hardest gym in the area. I have a hard time going here as down climbs are scarce and it’s bad for my injuries to jump down from so high. I’ve also slipped and fallen in bad ways here out of a multitude of reasons, but that’s inevitable in rock climbing. Competition slab is always a draw for my friends.
Julian Han: Staff are all super kind, and the gym itself has a lot of great climbs that are always being rotated in and out.
Matthew Gallagher: Best CRG in Boston.
Max Mitchell: the have rocks. And the let climb. Many rocks good yes😎Update: still has rocks
Seth Jackson: Best training area in New England (el dojo is a close second.) expensive, but you get what you pay for. Heavily trafficked. Rough and tough. Expect to fail early and often and get strong.Managed well, great staff, and the best setting I’ve come across in New England. You are only going to find it better if you go outside. They have a tension board (adjustable training wall.) and a moonboard 2016 with NEW HOLDS.Have a blast.
Kendall Bell: Great gym, great setting and great workout room. This gym has the hardest grading out of the CRGs I've been to. Be prepared to be humbled. V4s at glastonbury or Framingham are more like v3s at cambridge
Alex Bauer: I love climbing here. You'll find friendly staff and routes that are changed regularly
Guy Bresler: The best gym on the planet. The setting is amazing and the community is second to none.
Lincoln Craven-Brightman: My favorite gym in the area. Bouldering only, but damn do they have boulders. Great weight room and training facilities, and a sauna to boot
Josh Zotter: Clean facility. Exclusive bouldering facility with a large weight-lifting/training area. I feel these routes were harder than watertown routes. The mens locker-room facility could use some TLC and deep clean for the years of sweat.
Emily Mann: This gym is great, the staff are wonderful, and the problems are challenging and fun.
Eric “Orion” Olberding: Really cool staff. A good variety of problems with frequent switching. A spray wall, adjustable crack, hang boards, a mini gym, a sauna. The problems are harder than some of the other gyms I've been to relative to the grade, but grades don't matter that much (to me) anyways. Pick something that's just at the limit of your range!
Analia Silvia Piqueras: It's was a fascinating experience & so funny.
Marcel Damiano: This is the hardest of Central Rock's gyms but has a good 20-30s vibe with no kids which is a plus. Pretty big weight gym too. Bouldering only but always some really good problems to solve

Planet Fitness: what do users think?
Rick Park: Convenient location, to be sure, but I don't know how many times I have found all of the soap dispensers in the men's locker room empty, which is especially disheartening in a world with Covid and monkey pox. I have mentioned this to the front desk staff and sent emails but it is always the same. There is never a "real" manager onsite (just "regular" staff) so I doubt my concerns have been passed on. Also, I am one of those dinosaurs who enjoys watching TV during cardio, yet the television signal has been non-existent for going on 3 months now. This could be a perfectly fine gym except for these issues and the fact that the front desk staff seems to completely not care about anything brought to their attention and there is never a manager to speak with, either in person or by phone.EDIT AS OF 4/17/23: I don't know if this franchise has changed owners or what, but that have really turned things around here. Gym s always clean, soap always available and a front desk staff that is friendly and attentive and always busy doing something to help the club! I have changed my original rating of 2 stars to 4 stars!
Jeanine Brandão: I really like working out in this place. The problem is that they take too long to fix the equipment.
Victor Pavlenkov: clean, friendly, open on time
Patricia Kelly: When is this gym scheduled for renovation? I was considering signing up and joining but after reading the reviews it appears this gym is dirty and the staff unprofessional.
James Mckinney: Friendly staff, plenty of equipment available to get in a good workout.
Pixie Rose: Could use a little more open space for free workouts, but the facilities are clean and the machines are in great condition!
Nicholas Yee: Gets way too warm when it's more than just 10 people in the gym. Given the amount of cardio equipment people use, pf needs to lower the temp and ventilate better. Average temp on thermostat is 68F. Staff are generally nice but paper towels and cleaning materials may need to be replenished more often throughout the day/week. It would also be nice to have an expected amount of time given for public notice when broken equipment is being serviced. Pf has multiple locations and response time should be more consistent
Jonathan Carey: Of all the Planet Fitnesses that I've been to, this one is the dirtiest and has the most broken equipment. Gross.
Sarah Block: I like this gym. It’s clean, inexpensive, and the staff are nice.
nathanael haynes: Great place to workout. Nothing spectacular but very friendly crew
Sherry Leffert: A good clean place to work out with helpful staff.
keith mcdaniel: Been going here for a year and I can say things turned around when they hired Osama. He is a one man army who track turned things around there, a hard worker who helps guests and keeps the gym running smoothly which leads to a nice workout.
James Smapde: Seriously, don't ignore the 1 star reviews, they're all saying the same things, and they have been for a while. This is definitely the worst planet fitness I've ever been to. The water fountain is always broken, the ventilation is bad, and they mask the smell by spraying tons of fragrance. Good luck if you have asthma. Without fail there's always folks camping on the express workout machines and maybe 1/5 of the customers wipe down their machines after use.The staff are nice and there's a ton of equipment, but the place is just kinda gross and mismanaged.
GP#34 Google Censors The Truth - crApple too.: All the shower drains are clogged causing crud to come up from the drains and Engulf your foot and toes causing bacteria to grow like athletes foot and worse. I’m in the process of suing this particular location for purposely leaving their drains clogged To deter people from taking showers after workouts, thereby saving water costs.
Fatima Zaankik: Very clean now! Manager hired a good and smiling staff. Someone clean pre-opening the gym. Bathroom is so clean! Am impressed! Osama is great, the best/ friendly and smiling all the time.
Dennis McMasters: This place is extremely dirty, the locker room and the gym itself. There’s rarely any staff at the front desk. I see non members entering the gym, even a homeless guy slid in to take a long shower(can’t blame him). The customary “call the manager” response. Nothing ever gets fixed at this place. The water station. Disgusting!Canceled my membership because of this. It’s really filthy here.
Waqar Ali: Amazing Staff & Super clean
James Davis: The employees here are extremely rude and unprofessional. And just a warning, if you ever want to cancel your membership when you have moved they make it impossibly difficult to do so.
John Cisternino: They frequently don’t open on time, leaving crowds of would-be excercisers waiting in the lobby for unpredictably long periods of time. Apart from that, it’s a good value. But to get up and go to the gym before sunrise just to confront a locked door is very frustrating.Update: I’ve come at the opening time three times this week (Sunday, Monday, Wednesday) and they have not been open ANY of those days. The lost time is a cost you should factor in when contemplating the cost of membership.
Soky Koy: Pretty much the worst gym you could find around here. The staff are slacking off (especially this guy named John) and don’t take their work seriously. The AC is not working properly. Very hot in the summer. Quite difficult to breathe at times with strong bad odors. Equipments are broken and not fixed for a very long time. Paper tissues are empty and not replaced for a while.
Ronald Velez: Mostly in good condition and equipment maintained. Bathroom needs to be cleaned more often.

Cambridge Athletic Club: what do users think?
GlutenFreeSTEMgal: For starters this gym has a stretch to it that is a combination of we tried to clean but also a dirty dried up sock found in a corner that is nice and crusty. The staff is generally pretty friendly but rarely do you see them wondering around. Mostly glued to the phone. The showers are also incredibly gross and the shower curtain looks like it hasn’t been changed in years and has mold growing on it. The morning hours are generally less packed but the evenings, good luck finding space in this compact gym.
Becka Simon: Very straightforward, compact gym. It's a great quality gym for the convenient location and decent price. It can get a little crowded after work, and I wish there was another squat rack, but generally, I'm very satisfied with CAC.
Alexander Roederer: A good, compact gym at a reasonable price. The facilities are clean and the staff is friendly, and they've got basically all the equipment you need for weightlifting (squat racks, free weights, deadlift bars, cable machines, medicine balls and kettlebells), even if there's not tons of duplicates of things and there's limited floor space to do lifts (my only slight gripe is there's no deadlift platform, so you just have to claim a spot on the floor). It gets crowded in the after-work hours, but if your regular gym time is any other time I'd recommend it, as you'll almost never have to wait to use any particular piece of equipment, and at some off hours you'll be close to having the place to yourself. And of course there's plenty of treadmills, ellipticals, stair steppers and two rowing machines etc if cardio's your jam.EDIT: I'd increase this review to 6 stars if possible. Unfortunately I'm leaving the area, and so had to cancel my membership, but CAC made this very easy with an online cancellation form, and happily cancelled at my request, not requiring me to jump through a bunch of hoops. It is so rare to find a gym that does not try to trick you or goad you at all. So great!
Andrew McLaughlin: Positive:Professionalism,QualityJust got my first workout in during my lunch hour and had the entire place to myself. Sparkling clean, all the equipment was in great condition, and it's only steps away from my office at One Kendall Square!
Tara Maloney: CAC is one of the best gyms around! The friendly staff are always there to greet you with a smile (and fresh towel if needed), and the group fitness instructors (especially for Les Mills!!) are extremely welcoming and encouraging! During the pandemic, CAC stopped charging all of its members and provided free online/virtual group classes for its members as well as a free trial membership with Les Mills on demand. When they finally opened their doors back up, the staff went out of their way to reach out to members multiple times and provide detailed information, and even allowed members to continue to freeze their memberships until they were comfortable to come back to the gym. The quality of care at CAC is just not comparable to any other gym I’ve been a member of. Don’t hesitate to join, you won’t regret it!
Kue R: Been about 2 weeks of actual Jesus music? All praise the Lord but doesn't exactly suit lifting.Actual lyrics playing right now: lift up your voice and say Amen, God is gonna move you say Amen.Next Song: we are the voices to God he deserves our prayer. Chains cannot hold us tight. Choose to be free. We are the new kingdom.Cambridge Athletic Cult?
Alyssa Jones: Great, compact little gym. CAC is small but they have everything you need to get a good workout, and in my experience they generally aren’t over crowded, which also helps to get in a good and ENJOYABLE workout.Locker rooms are clean. As an added bonus, the staff here is exceptionally friendly and welcoming.
Mark Tebbe: The staff is friendly and welcoming, most of them welcome me by name, the place is clean and bright, good music but not too loud, plenty of equipment and trainers. Really a nice place.
Liz Jukovsky: I think that CAC is a great gym for working professionals in the area. I find the CAC team to be friendly, and the machines and equipment are reliable. My only constructive feedback would be that somehow opening up the stretching areas and maybe adding another area for TRX bands would be helpful. I also do wish this location was open on weekends - 215 First St. is a lovely location, but far enough away that it's a bit of a drag in the winter.
Thomas Dubois: All the facilities are very clean, and rarely ever busy. They have a large variety of classes that are scheduled all times of the day. Some of the weight lifting equipment is limited though, with only really one specific machine for any exercise, and some machines; such as calf raises or seated row they don't have or they only have at one particular facility. For the most part though, all the essential or typical weight lifting equipment is there.
Jhon Henao: Very clean, less than a min walk from work. Has all the necessities including showers with complimentary towels, soap and shampoo. My only complaint would be the dumbbells, they aren't organized by weight and are all over the place on the rack. They should have someone fix it every now and then while enforcing people to make sure they put the weights in the right location. Other than that I like it!
Jonathan Adams: Nice, clean location. A little on the small side but with a good schedule of classes serving the workweek schedule of surrounding Kendall Sq.

Evolve Fitness: what do users think?
Ebrahim Ghazvini Zadeh: Spacious with a lot of equipment. Most are rusty and old, carpet is stinky and the gym has a terrible smell. Gym will close and another affordable housing project will be built on the lot.
S “S” K: Terrible selection of training equipment, disgusting gym with unexperienced and rude management. Avoid at all costs.
Anonymous: I debated even leaving a review because I don’t want this gym to become crowded 😅We love this gym. Clean. Staff is friendly. Opens on time. No frills gym. Exactly what we needed.
Kyler Kopacz: It’s a gym and it’ll get the job done. Lots of equipment but some things are dated.
Brad Dinerman: Great gym. The trainers are incredibly skilled and friendly, and front desk staff is equally friendly. Equipment is well-maintained. If I had to come up with anything negative at all, I’d say the equipment layout on the floor is a bit crowded, but that’s hardly a concern.
Brian Benet: Pretty good. Good equipment selection. Could be a bit cleaner and the music is WAY too loud most of the time. It’s 2022 and everyone has their own headphones. It shouldn’t be hard to hear my own music with noise cancellation on. Not sure why it needs to be so loud. They have nice Bose speakers so I have a feeling they spent a lot on them and now feel like they need to really use them, but it honestly makes it worse rather than better
Jonathan Lau: Best gym in Cambridge! Clean spacious has all the equipment u want and not crowded. What more can you ask for?
James Johnson: Critical:QualityStaff is generally friendly but I had to cancel because of one particular gentleman who kept hackling me for not having my mask up above my nose which is fair but not when they proceed to walk by other people doing the same exact thing and not say a word.
Chris Buckles: I have been a member at this gym for a year now. Good facility, most equipment is in good condition and professional, attentive staff. The only issue I have is that roughly a month ago (mid-November) a front desk staff member said the owner was considering moving the operating hours back to close LATER during the week. As of this post, the hours still remain the same: Monday to Friday until 8:00pm, Saturday and Sunday until 6:00pm. Considering members are paying $55 per month for a membership and competitors are open later, could the operating hours therefore not go back to closing at 10:00pm during the week (and then potentially Saturday and Sunday at 8:00pm) as well?
JP: Great staff peaceful setting. Good luck trying to cancel this place you have to show your liver and give an arm to cancel. Update(11/9/2021: Gotta call from the person handle the cancelation on why I posted this and I told her I'm clearly going through a hardship in life but it's not enough for her to cancel my membership.
Andre Bogard: Front desk lady is rude.
Rich Miner: Great value, well equipped, clean, never too busy.
Chelsea Whitton: I love my gym (it's been almost a year since I've attended!) This place is a gem. I feel safe, I have ample space to do my workouts whatever that may be (jump rope, kicks, yoga, running in the large space upstairs when unoccupied). The offered classes are comprehensive and the instructors are truly the best I've had in my 10+ years in the Boston area. The front desk staff are knowledgable and truly kind people. I hope to be able to come here for a long time.
Jo Keith: First time got a pass. Clean, lots of room. Will be going back for a class.
Rina Satake-Ossing: We tried canceling two memberships numerous times and were under the impression that the cancellation went through. It’s a pain to cancel with evolve fitness to begin with because you have to go through a third party (ABC Finance) to have it sorted it out. Months later we receive a call from a collections agency that we owed $800+ (mind you, we had not received any communication from evolve fitness during this time to notify us that we had any balance due).Eventually we were able to get this issue resolved but the process was quite irritating as it shouldn’t have happened to begin with. It’s as if evolve fitness purposely allowed this to get out of hand so they could get a bigger payout lol. I’m not saying to not join this gym but I know for a fact this gym is not worth the hassle we went through. Hope this helps in improving your facility! :)
Ian Miller: Critical:ProfessionalismTake care with Evolve when you try to leave. They will make it difficult and complicated.
Luca Puccini: Just the typical trap. Once you sign up, good luck getting out.It is an absolute waste of time talking to their staff or the lady who calls herself the owner, Cinzia Paolini. Attempted several times to cancel the membership and off course no records were found time and time again. The lack of responsibility taken by Paolini, combined with the contract they have with ABC financial as their billing company, will cost you around $300 give or take.Avoid this place!
Quiet storm: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality
Vincent Digiovanni: Absolute membership trap. Nearly impossible to cancel a membership with them. They apparently “do not cancel at the club level” and you have to go to ABC financial and hope someone processes your request. I’ve been trying for over a year to cancel. I haven’t even been there in over a year and only signed a 1 year contract like 2 years ago. Guess the devil is in the details with them... you should be cautious about this place, will never do business with this organization again.
Ice Nightingale: You know guys... I have tried places before. Evolve is a good place. Friendly people work there. Nobody is trying to rip your pocket of for money and nothing else matters like most of the gyms do. I recommend.
Chelsea Gazaille: Awesome Les Mills Body Combat classes :)

Cambridge YMCA: what do users think?
Mark Cerutti: Great weights setup for powerlifting, Olympic lifting, or bodybuilding. They took old racquetball courts and just filled them with power racks, barbells, and dumbbells. Cardio equipment is pretty busy at peak hours. Overall the best value gym in the area by far.
Bruce Allen Sullivan: This place is low key Staff is always friendly always as they should be ..Other places there rude and don't like there job.. This place they want to work there ..Maybe it's something in the air ...5 star all the way
Rambler Elk: I recently visited Cambridge YMCA and overall had a decent experience. The staff were friendly and welcoming, always ready to assist with any questions or concerns. The equipment was well-maintained and varied, providing ample options for a full-body workout. However, I was disappointed with the cleanliness of the locker rooms, specifically the sauna and steam room. The tiles and surfaces were not properly cleaned and had an unpleasant odor, and the sauna was not operating properly during my visit. This negatively impacted my overall experience. In conclusion, while the staff and equipment at Cambridge YMCA were great, the lack of attention to cleanliness in the locker rooms was a drawback. I hope that improvements will be made in this area to ensure a more enjoyable and hygienic experience for members in the future.
Maryella Vitoria Lopes Costa: Front desk people are super nice and workouts are always fun.
Kim Hetrick: Love this gym! Classes are great and offered at a variety of times. Staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. There should be equipment for any workout you want to do. My only complaint is that the hours are less than ideal compared to before the pandemic. I believe this gym used to open quite early and close late - now on the weekends it's only open 8-4 and it closes at 9pm on weekdays, for the same cost of membership as before.
Zechariah Harris: Lots of character and plenty of good equipment. They recently changed their schedule and now close at 9pm M-Th which is very nice! Solid place to work out with a friendly staff.
Ishan Raval: Great experience snd highly recommended! The front desk staff helped me get setup in just a few minutes after giving a tour of facility. Gym machines are new and very well maintained. It can get a but crowded right after work hours but the size can surely handle it. The personal training staff is awesome as well. I got 4 classes from Chorobi Sagna and it was totally worth it. He helped me get better at my workout and also made a plan for me for next few months!
Charles Wyzanski: After the Harvard gyms effectively closed during the pandemic, I finally checked out the Cambridge Y. I am a veteran of too many sports clubs to name in Boston and Cambridge over the years. For someone now well beyond his prime (and likely others) this is the best! The exercise equipment is ample if not elaborate, the indoor rubber track undersized but easy on the knees, the pool while not the full 25 yards not too cold and most often with at least a lane available to share, the locker room and showers clean and ample, the staff invariably helpful and friendly, and the monthly cost, including a locker and two clean towels, very reasonable and the best around. I’m sure there are many classes and the like available, but I’m more than satisfied as is. I think so well of the place that I even make a modest charitable donation!
Emanuel Santa: They don't allow outside YMCA members
Shivam Patwari: One of the best gyms in Cambridge, with ample space for a workout, a big cardio area, heated swimming pool. Going here for the last five months, the trainers are also good.A couple of feedbacks, the gym closes at 8:00 pm; I feel it’s early compared to other gyms around; also, on weekends, it gets closed at 3:00 pm, so I had to take two gym memberships if I have to hit the gym at late hours.Be prepared for hunting metered parking spaces. Overall a positive experience apart from the two stated sissies.
Roman Madaus: They close way too early and blast Closing Time when it's time to leave every single day, which is absolutely obnoxious. You will come to loathe the song if you go in the evenings. Also overpriced and the pool is too full. The building design is strange and terrible. No noise reduction wall panels, so some of the lifting rooms are piercingly loud. Staff is great, and there is a sauna and steam room, so cheers for that.
Tyler Motes: I wanted to join here because of the pool and it’s very close to my house. I don’t feel save walking down to it now. Drugs are being sold between the Y’s location and the Post Office. I’ve been harassed and followed from that area. When I tried the gym, I also didn’t feel comfortable in the changing room and the pool schedule I learned, made it almost impossible to be able to use the pool. They also house homeless people and they use the showers. Which is what made me extremely uncomfortable in the locker rooms. I’m transgender, so safety in locker rooms is my number one concern when joining a gym. I wanted to use the pool, but it’s 100% not worth putting my safety at risk. Do yourself a favor and go to another gym!
Nicholas Schiavo: It's very unfortunate that The Cambridge YMCA has taken it upon themselves to disallow YMCA members from other gyms the ability to use their facility. They have been telling me for months that they have just not decided when that would be, leading me to useless weekly phone calls to check the status of their decision. It was never like this before covid and they have taken their precaution overboard. I did not wish to use my leverage as an employee for another branch but even when I told them this they said that I would still not be allowed, then saying that they could make an exception once or twice. I live on the area but am employed so thus have a membership with another Y. I do not know if what they are doing is even okay with the gyms policy as a whole.
Beth Redmond Walsh: If you want a gym membership for swimming take a close look at the pool schedule for times they have available for your age group, and the days and times of day its open. The pool is old and small and most of the time the schedule is jammed up. Absolutely NOT worth the $60 a month.
Caasi: This Cambridge YMCA does not accept other non-Cambridge YMCA memberships
Dillon O’Brien: very friendly staff, Nancy was super helpful getting me registered!
Tim Graham: Not apart of the YMCA organization and they do not honor a standard membership, need a special membership strictly through them
John M: Positive:QualityI like this place the employees are friendly and it has everything I need to stay in shape. Suggest for everyone of all ages
Michelle Deutsch: Positive:QualityNever thought to write a google review.. I teach a lot here, do PT, health coaching, etc. - still happy after many years of working here. Nice to see member reviews listed here also!
Paddy Cavanaugh: I absolutely love this place. The staff is wonderful, facilities well kept, and it's very affordable. Most of all the Cambridge Y has character. It's scrappy and democratic with a strong sense of communal identity you don't find at bland, fast casual 'luxury' fitness chains.
Ayo: Really lovely low key gym. Not crowded, I’ve gone various points in the day though never after work hours. Super super clean. Friendly staff constantly cleaning everywhere. Wipes everywhere and hand sanitizer. Lots of space and variety in equipment. Definitely can meet most workout needs. City Parking lot near by and street parking. Membership is affordable. Masks must be worn at all times except swimming and seems everyone does this. I feel safe here. Thank you Y.

VIM Fitness: what do users think?
Waqar Ali: This is not a gym, it's a fancy gym!!! Great place to have your local gym. Super clean, staff are helpful, respectful, and friendly... Best local gym ever. Thinking to get a membership with them.
Diesel I n c: Way overpriced, rude staff and the trainers are clueless. The equipment is nice but thats about it and u can get the same kind of workout at other gyms for half the price. 8 people I know have canceled their memberships at this place. Stay away and find a better and cheaper gym.
Shiran Soholitsky: Love the studio classes. The yoga is absolutely great, teached by great instructors. The mat pilates classes are also great. The showers are well equipped and clean, and there's plenty of available lockers. The only problem is that you can't keep your stuff in the lockers during the week or even during the night, so if you're planning on taking a shower you need to bring your things every time. The good part is that there is towels service :)
Mark Diethelm: The best gym in Cambridge, easily. Lots of equipment, a big clean space and lots of lockers in the locker room. It can sometimes get pretty busy at peak hours, as well run out of space in the locker room, so I recommend going early in the morning or after the post work rush. They recently added a number of new stations and pieces of equipment, adding to its appeal.
J Cha: Clean facility with abundance of different equipments! They are also offering several promotions until 12/31!
Gio B: Called just to ask if they had a sauna. Guy on the phone was rude bad vibes.
Yvan Pearson: Good gym, avoid the 5-6p rush
Kristen Banks: Last couple years with Covid making gyms a risk, this place was impeccable and safe with their cleanliness and protocol. Needless to say I am a fan and appreciate all they do to make my visits the Best!
D Eqb: Clean, well designed, with considerate clientele and professional staff at the most reasonable rate for this caliber of club. Can be a little tight in the free weight area, but that's understandable when securing premium space in one of the most in demand US city centers. The whole place had the feel of a highend club with the exception of the wall under the bathroom hand dryer that could use a little more regular wiping down.
Ashfaqur Rahman: Nice gym. Spacious. Lots of activities even in the early mornings.
Charlie Lewitt: I started going to VIM a couple on months ago when my office moved to Central. I don’t have anything but great things to say. The gym is clean, great layout of equipment, and it’s never overly crowded. For the price, it’s an incredible deal. Not as luxurious as Equinox but leaps and bounds better than a Boston Sports Club.
Julian: Quality equipment. Well maintained facilities. Missing some desirable equipment, most notably a 4 way neck machine. Crowded during rush hour.
Olga Stroilova: love this gym. convenient and clean.
Trevor Guisinger: Great gym, questionable customer service.Loved working out at this gym, equipment is great and always available (at least at times I went). Employees were super nice and helpful. Customer service from upper management is a little sketch. Moving to Chicago in 7 days and instead of working a deal out with a retuning customer they decided it was best to charge me for an entire month. I love this place and will be traveling back to boston ~6 times a year for work. I would have spent the money to workout at VIM during these times if they had treated me better in my moving situation.
Janice Lee: Their customer service is the worst I've experienced in any gym, including a gym like Planet Fitness. Their online system is unnecessarily complex and clunky (e.g. I had to re-type my address, number, and other personal information to cancel, whereas in other gyms, you just tell them your name and ask to cancel.). They also make you cancel at least two months in advance-- this was not communicated to me upon sign-up. When I pointed this out, they were very rude and defensive rather than apologetic. It's a shame BSC Central Square closed down because VIM is 3x as expensive and 3x as rude.
Dana: Clean, good equipment, never insanely busy
Ellen: It has everything I would need and is really well priced, given it's not huge (no pool) or upscale. If you get a day pass, you have to pay $20 which can be deducted if you buy a membership on the same day. I've never used the showers but they look clean. Best of all--and this is super important as a young woman--everyone here is super respectful and I have never felt unsafe or creeped out
Annabella Gong: Joining VIM as a member has been one of the best decisions I've made since moving to the area 2 yrs ago. In addition to offering top-notch fitness classes (which is the most effective way I exercise and trust me you are sore, sweaty, and fulfilled after every class), VIM fosters such a welcoming, inclusive community. Gyms can often feel intimidating, but I've met some of the most genuine, eclectic, awesome people in the VIM community. Couldn't recommend this place more - in my view, the best gym in Cambridge! :)
Bridgette Navejar: Really enjoy working out here. Clean, spacious, and great layout.
jimmitry Emile: Very Nice and clean,
L Eag: Serious gym

Cambridge Athletic Club: what do users think?
Joseph Brassard: Been working out here since about 2019. Generally pretty happy with it. Helpful and available staff when you have questions or want your billing receipt. If you do want to cancel, there's a 2 month transition window but that's it: nothing like the big chain gyms.Five power racks are great, but during rush hour expect them all to be taken up. Like all gyms, there's an issue of people just sitting staring at their phone for 10 minutes between sets, doing nothing. Or super-setting half the machines in the gym. They have put up signs asking people to be respectful but I haven't seen any behavior changes in this.Going off hours is much less busy, but then you have to deal with the cleaning staff mopping right around your feet. Trying to squat when you have slippery floors isn't very safe at all, I've had to start getting a towel from the front desk to dry the floor to I don't kill myself. Cleaning staff should stay away from anyone using a squat rack, including the area near the sides where we change weights, otherwise it's just a slippery mess. The main negative and my reason for only four stars is access. Before COVID, we could walk right in the First Street or the Linksey Way entrance. During covid the building locked the Linksey way entrance, which is annoying as you have to walk around the block to the front. However, they eventually locked the front entrance, too. Gym members don't have access badges to the outside door, so we had to ring the visitor doorbell. That was annoying enough, but now they not only make you ring the door bell but have to speak to the security guard. The intercom is completely unintelligible and you have to shout 'I'm going to the gym!' to be let inside. Not a great experience during winter, or in the rain, since you are not covered. They really need to make getting inside easier. The gym is a tenant of the building, we should be granted come/go access through all doors without having to wait for security to buzz us in.
Lindsay Teliska: I recently joined this gym and I love it! They have a variety of machines/equipment and it never seems too crowded. A lot of workout classes and access to squash courts, a basketball court, saunas etc come with membership. I also like the rewards program!
Mark Ceglio: Great gym with some excellent amenities! Always clean and not too crowded. Friendly staff. They offer a lot of deals and reward opportunities
Allison Looney: The facility at 215 First St. is roomy with lots of equipment, including a women-only studio, so I rarely have to wait to use any machine. Recently they've added new classes, so there are varied options for cardio, flexibility and balance exercises. The staff and other members are friendly and encouraging. With the help of my personal trainer weekly training sessions since December 2021 I've lost 35 pounds. I'm feeling good and I look forward to continuing to improve my health with the support of the CAC community.
Dan O'Connor: Been going here for a couple months. The gym is great - plenty of equipment, not too crowded, friendly staff. Can’t ask for more in a gym
yang hu: Small but compact gym with 5 power racks and two weightlifting platforms, which are very nice. I go to CAC during rush hours but always can find a rack. They allow me to use chalk! It is a big bonus to me, maybe it is the main reason I still go here even living far away from here.
Abigail Buckley: great facility for a reasonable price! the women's only fitness studio was a big sell for me
tommydoherty42: One of the best gyms in the area
Tushar Bahl: I came to this gym from June 2021 - July 2022. Only reason I left was due to moving to a new state. I wish I could still come to this place! It is incredibly well-kept and offers a lot to do. I came for weightlifting and they offered more than enough equipment for my desired goals, though they also offered squash, basketball, crossfit, and fitness classes. During peak hours between 5pm - 6pm the gym was busy, but you could get a squat rack or a deadlift pad within 5 minutes of waiting. I always saw someone pass by cleaning the floors, which was a nice touch, and cleaning wipes were always in a convenient reach. I had a great experience here and will miss it!
Biella Coleman: I had such HIGH hopes for this gym since it is right around the corner from where I live and has a great sauna. There are lots of good things about it but the woman's steam room is full of mold and it is right next door to the sauna. I am quite sensitive to mold so I am unable to join after trying out the day pass. I would consider if they truly fixed it by removing the tiles and cleaning the mold that is likely grown behind the tiles. I've never seen such a bad mold problem in a stream room before: it was smelly and visible. I am glad that fixing the steam room is in the fix list but it smelled musty and the black discoloration is often normal in the grout but it was beyond the grout and on the tile and that should wipe off. Mold is nothing to mess around with especially in basements and when there are ducts and vented air. I will certainly consider once the steam room has been fixed.
Andrew Ekladious: Amazing club, I usually go for squash and working out. The courts are great and they have enough equipment and good variety of machines. Recommend especially if you want a good gym to go to after work.
Ava French: The instructors & the equipment are great. Carla is the best. Wifi isn’t fantastic though
Mark DiRocco: Very clean and nice gym! I can tell they really care about their clients. Nice and quiet during off hours as well.
Michael Brazile: Great gym, plenty of space and machines. Wonderful friendly staff that also take the mask mandate seriously and enforce it. The majority of people follow the rules and wear their masks, but there's a minority that try and play games. Just flag these selfish jerks and management will be on them - a few people have had their memberships suspended for repeatedly unmasking. So if you've been someone concerned about returning to a gym due to COVID, CAC Anthenaeum is about as good as it gets.
Mark Winderlich: Positive:Communication,ProfessionalismGreat composition of basketball court, squash court, cross-fit box, gym and freestyle area! Friendly reception, great trainers. Very clean and no waiting times at fitness machines! Great place!
Farzaneh Khajouei: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality* It is clean and orderly, we usually see cleaning staff taking care of the environment* They have complete set of weight lifting equipments and cardio machines* Plenty of equipment and we never had to wait for anything
Frank Garrett: I love how I am always greeted when entering and farewelled on my way out.
Kyle Wiant: Great equipment, friendly staff, well-maintained.
Aly Dunnington: Staff are friendly and the equipment is consistently cleaned. This location has a great variety of equipment available, convenient location, and large locker rooms.
Mike Gould: Best gym to workout in the Kendall Square area! Equipment is up to date and clean. Love it here!

Cambridge Athletic Club Express: what do users think?
Jonathan Carey: Love it
John Nicol: Positive:QualitySuper convenient private gym (members only) in the heart of Kendall Square. Nothing overly fancy but it has everything you need for a good workout -- weights area and machines area. Very unusual to have to wait for machines even at peak times. Great views facing out over the canal walk as you crank on the treadmills.
Alan Foster: Big fan of CAC and the flexible hours of this unmanned gym!
Jennifer Appel: This is a very convenient location for CAC. There are a few treadmills, bikes, and other cardio machines. As you walk further in, there's some weight equipment as well. Definitely sufficient for getting in a quick workout after work!
Matthew Akenhead: Personal trainer was very knowledgeable. He really and made sure my form was correct instead of rushing through as many exercises as he could fit in an hour.
Yuriy Nagorny: This is by far the best gym out of all the gyms I have visited. I have been to at least 30 different gyms in the last decade and have to say this one has it all. Basketball court, Racketball Court, Crosfitt huge hall, Karate rooms, dancing rooms, salsa rooms, treadmills, olympic lyfting set up, kettlebells, stones, tires, state of the art gym, free weights. They have everything for everyone, for every level of athlete, or just a casual joe who wants to be in shape. But that's not all, they have incredibly nice staff, relatively cheap prices and huge locker room with THE SAUNA AND STEAM ROOM!. I mean if someone doesn't like it, well than that person simply can not be satisfied. Highly recommend A++++++

BodyScapes Fitness Kendall Square: what do users think?
Sara Bator: Great atmosphere and lovely staff to make you feel welcome!
Cassandra Rogers: Front desk staff are amazingly nice and helpful and the gym is pretty well equipped. When I visited only 1 shower was working properly in the women's locker room but the one that did was decent.
oo-: Nice gym
Brendan A: Opens too late. Closes too early. :(
Vikram Balakrishnan: The facility is good, however if you are trying to cancel membership, it is tricky. They don’t provide the ability to cancel membership through their online portal. They don’t have an e-mail you can contact them through. The only way to contact them is through the contact form on their website. However, after submission there isn’t an automated acknowledgement that it has been submitted. So, in my case they claimed they didn’t receive my form. When I asked them for written confirmation that they did not receive my request to cancel, they ignored and they did not reply to it.
T: Decent Gym, lacking some key workout equipments. I visited and was thinking to sign up but I didn’t feel welcomed. No one greeted me when I got to the desk, there were a few people standing cracking jokes. I had to ask for help, It was as if they didn’t need my business. Front desk associate never smiled, so yeah, a little awkward
Oliver Janovitz: Terrible. They have a no guest policy, so when my fiance visits (~ 1 day per month) they don't allow her to come to the gym with me, despite having her liability forms on file. Terrible policy, not consistently enforced. Cancelled my membership, despite living the building.
Ben Pastor: This gym is pretty awful and not worth the money. I'd highly recommend several other places before here. I only went because we had a corporate discount, but immediately switched the first chance I got.The equipment is newer, but the staff never clean or wipe anything down. Normally I wouldn't mind as much, but they also don't refill the dispenser wipes, which means that I can't clean them either. When you ask for the wipes to be refilled, the staff usually looks extremely put out and suggest you try a different dispenser -- this happened several times. The locker rooms are OK at best. They seem to do the bare minimum -- if anything -- to fix any issues though. (i.e. it's normal for 1-2 of the 4 showers in the men's locker room to be out of order at any given time. The showers also seem pretty dirty and grimy. The one nice thing is that each locker is programmable so you can lock away your belongings.Trust me, there are much better places nearby.
J. Mike Remy: Fancy
D Walker: The employees are great and equipment is generally well maintained. My only complaint is that there has been no change (upgrades, new pieces) in the equipment in at least 5 years, so can get a bit monotonous compared with the larger chain gyms.
Boris S: Marina is the best!!! Awesome body-pump classes
Marina Vivero: Probably the nicest of the three locations. Lots of equipment options. Weight floor options a bit more limited than the Coolidge and Longwood locations, but still great. Very friendly and helpful staff.
DILEESH ALURI: It is great place for cross fit. It's got very intense activities.
shirleny arieta: Great place
Aidan K: This is the cleanest gym I've ever been to. The facilities are spotless, the staff is friendly, and the classes are top-notch. If you're struggling, folks help you out--that's uncommon.
Michael Huang: Great equipment and staff
Pascal Marmier: Great place for working out, very friendly staff.
Jim Mingle: Best gym in the world.. excellent staff.
Reiner See: A huge fully equipped physical fitness center = gym + spa + massage + physical therapy. The group exercise classes here are great!!!
Martin Spinner: I've been a member of this gym for 2 months, cancellation without problems.I do only weight training, and overall it was good. Areas of improvement : buy a new EZ bar for biceps, heavier dumbbells (stops at 85lbs, should go to 100 at least), and the most important a machine for calves (there is no standing or seating calves machine, making the training a bit difficult for this muscle).Otherwise it is clean and the staff is friendly.
Luke Pezanko: If anyone says this gym is not clean then they need to get their eyes reexamined; this gym is one of the cleanest I've ever been to. The staff is cordial and it's never too crowded. It offers a variety of exercises modalities and the bathroom/shower facilities are clean and well kept. The membership includes all three of the relatively local facilities; which is well worth the price. Highly recommended!
