Everyone was accommodating and understanding of what should be done. Everyday they cleaned up after themselves and the work was done in the promised amount of time. Best of all, they're great at what they do. A couple of difficult spots were touched up and you can't tell that work was done on those surfaces. Two coats applied by brush or roller, using an airless pump to speed application (but not apply the paint) where practical. Careful protection of nearby automobiles and ground surfaces with drop cloths. As a former painting contractor, I can say I was impressed by their workmanship and delighted with the result. I expect this paint job will hold up much longer than the previous job.The job went smoothly in a very reasonable time frame. The painters were respectful and pleasant to have around, very hard workers. Robert is easy to work with and careful to get things right. He corrected a color mistake the same day at no extra cost. He accommodated the special need of one of the owners by not working on her part of the building on certain days. The price was very reasonable for a 4 unit townhouse structure in pretty bad shape. It was hard for me to pay for a painter because I am a fairly good painter, am detailed and cannot tolerate sloppy work. However, this job was challenging for me because the family room ceilings are quite high and vaulted with a lot angles. There are 16 windows and a set of French doors in the room. I did not want to dedicate the time to this job. The front door is steel and it arrived pre-painted. Tom Sawyer Painting did flawless work, the lines are sharp, there was no mess, no drips, and the quality was better than I could achieve. They even repaired some flaws in the drywall. Gerald Gladstone: Our son in Cambridge recommended Irish Painting after they painted his house. Eoin drove an hour to see our home, walked around it with me, and discussed in detail the paint and stain job they would do, after power washing the whole house first, as well as the needed carpentry repairs. He was careful to point out that we may need to hire someone else if more elaborate carpentry than his crew could perform was needed, and he strongly advised that we have two leaks in the gutters repaired before painting.His crew came exactly on schedule. They worked efficiently and unobtrusively. Their attention to detail was fantastic. On hands and knees, they scraped, cleaned, and sanded our two large decks before staining them. They did a little carpentry, but we decided to replace a lot of rotting fascia boards with PVC and replace the aging gutters and downspouts, and the crew carefully marked all the areas that needed replacement, so the contractor could see exactly what was needed. The painters painted/stained the house but left the decks to be done after the gutter crew finished putting ladders on them.From power washing through scraping and prepping, staining and painting two coats everywhere, the work was meticulous. Nothing was overlooked, and I never had to tell or ask them something more than once. Eoin carefully explained in detail everything he recommended and answered every question. The price was perfectly fair for the high quality work they did. Irish Painting Company was only about $500 more expensive than the other quote, but worth so much more in professionalism, adherence to safety procedures, positive reviews to reference and peace of mind.Eoin came for a quote during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and did a consultation while on the phone with us. He answered all of our questions about Lead/EPA safety. Antoni Wolynski: I had serious issues even though I *wasn't* able to use this business (aside from getting measurements and inspections for a quote from Vicki, who was easy to talk to and seemed professional). I get an email soon that a quote should be ready in 2-3 business days. I don't hear from them for a while, and (THIS IS NOT THEIR FAULT, DESPITE OTHER ISSUES I WILL LIST) it turned out the plumber I hired just ghosted us (A&K Plumbing from Revere DON'T use them ever unless its life or death) and wouldn't communicate with New Chapter, so they couldn't make a quote. It wasn't a huge issue, so I hired a more professional plumber at HER Plumbing in Brighton, and they gave me a new plumbing quote very quickly - but it was only good for TWENTY days (after that, due to inflation and supply issues among other reasons, the materials get more expensive the longer you wait).When I sent in this second, PROFESSIONAL, LEGITIMATE quote in *mid-NOVEMBER*, I was sent another email that it would be done in 2-3 business days. I never received a quote. I called and emailed New Chapter before the twenty day limit I was given to maintain the quote price given by HER Plumbing. about *3 days* before the 20 day limit ended, on *December 1st*, ROMEO L. sent me a half-hearted email stating "I hope all is well. I had no time to hire a new carpenter in time for the 20 days and it will COST ME MORE after WASTING MY TIME and NOT RESPONDING TO ME (ESPECIALLY NOT IN TIME!). They had canceled my project without even telling me. When I confronted them about this I told them aside from the first plumber that ceased contact, which could have delayed them a bit which was excusable, there was no excuse for their delay in telling me the reality of the situation and that I needed to find a new carpenter asap, in fact well before ROMEO L decided to finally email me back.I am very disappointed, as they were recommended to me by friends in a similar building in Cambridge where they seemingly did a good job. When I told my friends about what New Chapter had done, they were shocked but also mentioned another friend they recommended New Chapter to recently who was also *very* unsatisfied. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY RIGHT NOW, ESPECIALLY IF IT IS URGENT. Clearly there have been some recent and serious changes or set-backs at this company, I have been trying now 15 months to get my bathroom repaired and I have to go and get carpenter estimates (from multiple people! which will also cost me some money!) for the third time in the past year alone. I am so tired of dealing with unprofessional plumbers, carpenters, contractors, etc. in this city. How am I going to get back the extra money I will lose because I had to wait for new chapter to even remember I existed and remember to tell me they canceled my project. Inexcusable behavior, and I am not only unsatisfied as a customer but personally offended, the way they made everything seem like it was OK until the absolute last and worst possible moment.
