Erius Houston: I attended their dance a month or so ago at the Dante Alighieri in Kendall Square. So many outstanding dancers!But I really had problems with the music. I learned to dance salsa on one, and I just could not lead to this music. So I asked some good leads to let me follow and they did. And that’s how learned, after so many years, to dance salsa on two. And I love it!Now I love to dance on two, but I struggle to lead. So I guess I will follow! Gracias, Salsa Y Control!

David Resnick: Went to two of their beginner salsa lessons at The Dance Complex in Cambridge. On the plus side, I thought the instruction was pretty decent for a beginner lesson. On the minus side, about twice as many people who wanted to dance lead (largely guys) than follow. Paying $17 for a lesson where you are dancing without a partner half the time didn't appeal to me (a guy) so while I normally learn to dance lead in a new rhythm I decided to dance follow for my second lesson Turns out they have some homophobic twits in their class. Ironically for someone on the receiving end of that, I'm not gay (not that it should matter). I'm just not hung up on the gender of people i learn dance steps with. I told the instructor about my negative experience while signing out and paying. Think that telling me not to pay would be the least one might expect, but, well, apparently not. I'd guess my review would be quite a bit more positive if the lead/follow balance had been better and I had been leading. Certainly I'd discourage people from dancing in their lessons if not doing gender normed lead/follow dance roles. Or if the lead/follow balance isn't decent. Won't be back.

Roda Haway: My wife and I were looking for a Dance studio so we can learn how to Dance Salsa and we were so happy we found Rumba Y Timbal Dance Company .We were welcomed to a great dance family and community . The instructors Roberto , Liliana and Carlos were so supportive and we new this was the place we felt at home . We fell in love with classes we were driving to Cambridge four times a week from the suburbs . Pierre Jockers: One of the best salsa/bachata schools in the country. Very far above anything else in the Boston and Cambridge area (I have done them all).Great instructors, strong emphasis on technicals, presence of curriculum for every class, flexibility of schedule (classes twice a week) all make progression very fast. Most people who joined got a good level after ~6 months. Also good leader/follower ratio (~50/50 for pretty much all classes - not the case in many other schools, where there are traditionally more leaders, which means leaders learn much less). Also a great community - I feel I have always been treated as a student or a friend, never as a customer.

Janice - Jaycee McCullough: Always wanted to learn Salsa and 6 months ago my son agreed to be my dance partner (yes, I bribed him), so we signed up with Rumba Y Timbal for the beginner class. We absolutely loved it. After just two months of lessons I was dancing at socials with confidence. Due to my son getting a new job and he had to stop, I lost a dance partner but no biggie for there is always someone to dance with at Rumba Y Timbal and the staff is awesome. If you're not getting a specific move they are there to practice with you after or before class. If you want to learn salsa and you want to feel confident in social settings Rumba Y Timbal is the place to be.

Mei-Chen Liao: I have done zumba for three years. I felt that the workout is good but always wanted to get more dance part. Then I started to join in Rumbatimbal for beginner classes. The main director-Roberto was so passionate and the other dancers are all very helpful and friendly. The atmosphere there is fun and happy. Later, I was eager to learn more sophisticated parts such as lady’s styling or lady’s choreography. Recently I just join the student performance team. I am so excited that I improve so much in short period of time and can’t wait to get on stage in the future.

It was my sister birthday so made reservation for 8:30 but even with reservation they made us wait for 40 min and after that also they made us sit on high table since there was no table. If they can’t gives us table why the scenario of making reservations and wasting and ruining others night.We got table after waiting and agreeing to sit on high table and after that we gave order in 5 min and they made us wait for hour before they serve us even a glass of water. Server didn’t even came back to check. The other couple of table who came late then us left finishing dinner and we still were there waiting even for a glass of water. I had to yell and manager had to come before they serve us anything. It was horrible experience. If it wasn’t my sister birthday I would have left the restaurant. If you guys can’t give service don’t bother opening restaurant. Hosting was terrible. Managing was awful. I would have given negative star if there was option.BE AWARE BFORE MAKING RESERVATION There. Especially if u are trying to go there for some fun night and relax night. DON’T GO they will make you feel terrible.

Jarvis Chen: Easily the best Cuban restaurant in the Boston area. Amazing dishes with tons of creativity, good drinks, charismatic staff. They are also a pretty large restaurant spanning two floors, so there is a good amount of space. The ambiance is definitely better on the main floor than in the bottom floor, so try to get a table on ground level.
