Sharada Das LaVigne: My mother had 2 appointments here- and both times this practice was terrible about communication.She left her work early to go to her first appt. When she showed up the front desk informed her they did not have authorization from her Insurance and she could be seen but would pay out of pocket. When she asked why someone hadn’t let her know, the practice said her insurance should have informed her but she was welcome to keep her appt and pay out of pocket. I have managed medical practices my entire career and although the insurance should inform the patient about coverage, the practice should also inform the patient just so they don’t go through the trouble of coming in.But nope.My mother then called her insurance and they were baffled she was turned away. The rep said that she would call the practice and My mom could shortly after reschedule her appt.For her second appt my mother was called to show up early. My mother ended up making some last minute changes to her schedule so she could get there early. She gets to her appt and the front desk informs her that just a few days ago they stopped accepting her insurance!1. Couldn’t you have called and told her that a few days ago before she made changes to her schedule?2. Did you not think to mention it when you called her to tell her show up early?I am not sure what is happening with oversight of the front desk coordinators but I blame this squarely on management for not training them adequately. An extremely poor experience for my mother, and an even bigger waste of time.

Hanh Lai: People were nice. Not a long wait. But I question their hygiene practice. I came for a general check up and next day I got a bacterial infection in one of my eye. The lens tool they used on my eyes, the doctor hand without glove touching my eye lids. All questionable.

Ken Keefe: Had not been to eye doctor in decades. I was referred to NE Eye Center by my primary doctor to treat a severe stye. Met with Dr Ko and could not have been more pleased. She was very personable, informative, gave me a few choices of treatment and was on time actually saw me earlier than scheduled appointment. I actually left feeling I would like weekly eye appointment! I could not recommend any higher they are 11 out of 10 rating!

Elizabeth Onishuk: Though not an established patient with this practice, the staff were kind enough to grant me an emergency visit to remove a contact lens that had been embedded in my eye for nearly 3 weeks. The medical secretaries were professional and efficient; the the technician was thorough, and the doctor treated me promptly, capably, compassionately, and without pain. The office, too, was spotless. I highly recommend New England Eye Center of Cambridge for your ophthalmic needs.

David Titus: I have been treated at New England Eye Center for over 10 years and have always had a positive experience. The practice is busy but the doctors and technicians I have worked with have always seemed efficient, caring, well-trained, attentive to concerns, and (most important) very capable. In 2018 they moved from somewhat cramped quarters to a new location on Concord Ave, and my recent experience there was positive.Another reviewer complained of excessive phone hold times, but I have not been on hold longer than 2-3 minutes and usually it is much less than that.

Willard Robinson: AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Waited on hold for 15 minutes only to be hung-up on, then 20 minutes to be hung up on. Then tried to check my insurance, which their billing department was incapable of, only to be forwarded to the receptionist that told me they didn't take my insurance - without even checking. I called my insurance and it seems that several of their doctors actually do take my insurance. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

Thom Wilde: I’m gonna walk you through this step by step. You arrive to a broom closet stacked with equipment. You can see the beams and 2x4 studs. You are then redirected to the elevator lobby to fill out sensitive medical forms. After this you get to sit in the broom closet where he makes NO ATTEMPT AT HUMAN INTERACTION while he one click at a time enters the information from the forms into his system. You have enough awkward time to notice the multiple security cameras pointed at you that you did not sign a release for. He then turns and addresses your obvious impatience and says “ I can’t help you if you no leave a good review”. I left and will be flagging this, lord I don’t have anything nice to say, clearly unprofessional and not up to basic building code seemingly illegal practice.

Leith Sharp: Dr. Ying was incredibly kind, thorough and he took the time to really work out what was wrong with my eyes. I had an eye infection for over a week that was really starting to worry me and I had a big conference coming up that I had to run. He gave me an appointment on the same day that I called, then diagnosed the problem and then sent me home with the cure. And it was all very affordable. I couldn't be happier and I highly recommend this amazing ophthalmologist!!

The staff are so friendly and they have one of the biggest selection of frames I have ever seen. They helped use my insurance and they gave me great prices on my contacts and a rebate on top of that. Highly recommend! I will definitely be coming here again.

zindagi zia: I met Dr. Dzenana Idrizovic when she started her clinic for my daughter when she was 5 and after that I never been anywhere else . Now my daughter is 15 and I am sitting in her clinic giving the reviews. I guess that explains a lot . All the staff is really friendly and understanding and can’t say enough about Dr Idrizovic how nice she is and she explains everything so well . Highly recommend if you are looking for an expert eye doctor. :)

K Fishman: I should’ve looked at the yelp reviews before coming here.Had a routine eye exam a few months ago for a new rx because my other rx expired.Went here because of the high ratings on google but was very disappointed.The optometrist tried to help me find contacts that wouldn’t irritate my eczema. He gave me a few to try at home but many of them unfortunately didn’t fit/stay in my eyes. Only one brand which is an old brand I used to use worked. Every time I tried the contacts was during the day. Also the optometrist called me 7x at work in a row and wouldn’t leave a voicemail telling me that he would leave these contacts for me at the front desk which was frustrating because it wasn’t urgent. It was disruptive and a voicemail could’ve easily been left.Fast forward to when I get my script and contacts ordered. I rarely use my contacts except maybe 2x/week during the day. I recently used the new script to purchase glasses at warby parker and got the glasses last week to find out driving home at night that the optometrist did not put my astigmatism on the script. So now I’m stuck with $150 (after insurance) worth of contacts with the wrong script and a $300 pair of glasses with the wrong script that I can’t return.I called the office last weds to get a somewhat rude front desk person who was trying to make excuses and avoid taking any responsibility for the issue. Finally at the end of the 10 min or so back and forth he finally agreed to schedule me with the optometrist next week but would call me back.I never got a call back.I would avoid coming here. If my prior rx accounted for an astigmatism you shouldn’t take that off a script. Its now challenging for me to drive at night and I run the risk of possibly crashing my car at night due to inadequate vision. I wish I still had my old glasses to use so I wouldn’t be in this position.Now I have to go find a whole new optometrist and pay full price again for everything let alone take time off to make an eye appointment.

Shawn Xiao: Due to the incorrect prescription from this clinic, I got the wrong glasses, which resulted in vision loss almost. I was told the manager will call me to know about what was happening but haven't received any call yet.

Xiao Shan: I did an eye examination at this clinic and got a new prescription this March. Based on this prescription, I purchased a new pair of glasses. Unfortunately, after wearing it for a week, I almost lost my vision. What's worse, I black out without any feelings last weekend. My eyeballs are still painful and I still see shadows when I work on computer. It turns out that this prescription is incorrect, but they just keep silent without response though I have reported this to local police. Just don't know where I can ask for help.

Edoardo Cicconi: I've never been to a worse optical shop in my life.After ONE MONTH, the only thing they could say about the ordered glasses was, "10 business days". They do not even check if the shipment was ok and on its way.Asked for a refund, usual answer "the manager is not here". Who knows when they will refund me.They could improve their client service a lot.UPDATEthey are aware of the fact and have more than compensated. I'm glad to see that there are still some people who care about their customers.

Oyin Olagbegi: The appointment itself was good, but my family and I ordered glasses and it took around 7 months or more for mine to come in and when they did, they didn’t call me or send an email, I called them and asked them to check. We’re still waiting for another pair which we ordered in summer of 2022. And when we called they said we weren’t in their system. Very disorganized.

Andy Chan: I recently had my eye examination at this clinic and absolutely loved the experience. Dr. Kong was extremely thorough with the examination and explanations. The front desk and optician was extremely helpful in explaining my insurance coverages as well.

Jamie Spagnuolo: I do not like it here. I first came here back in February 2022 and made a standard eye exam appointment and contact lens fitting with Dr. Kaplan. Dr. Kaplan was great; I have no issue with her. My issue is with the people who work the front desk. When I made the appointment I asked if they took my vision insurance, and they said yes. Prior to the appointment, it was requested via email that I fill out some first time patient intake paperwork. I filled out the paperwork, sent it back (via attachment, might I add, so not the most secure for health information, but that was what I had been told to do). I asked for the office to please confirm receipt. No response. I arrive at my appointment and am asked to fill out the same paperwork. I mentioned I had already filled it out and sent it to them. They said I had to fill it out again. After my appointment, I go to check out and I’m told the cost is $134. I asked if that was with insurance, and the man (I believe his name was Charles) at the front desk said that was the co-pay. I was confused as to why it would be so much, but he kept saying, “This is what it’s coming up as in the system.” I didn’t want to argue, and I know what it’s like to be at the mercy of the computer system. So I paid it. When I went home, I looked up my insurance benefits and it just should not have cost that much. At my old eye doctor, with the same insurance, this visit would have been free! I called the office to explain, and long story short, it turns out they didn’t take my insurance (they apparently take one kind of Aetna but not another?). I emailed over my insurance information, because it seemed like my insurance matched the one they take. I asked to confirm receipt. No response. I had to call several times to try to get it sorted it out, but Charles couldn’t really explain it to me. I asked if there was someone who would be able to explain it to me, and he said someone from billing could call in a couple of days. Spoiler alert: no one called. This was almost a year ago, so certainly no one is going to call. I just had to pay the cost out of pocket, and I’m still not sure why. Fast forward to this week, I had an eye issue and asked if I could make an appointment. Charles said, “Sorry, we’re booked.” I had to ask if he could put me on a cancellation list, and he reluctantly agreed (no offer from him). I asked if there was anywhere else in the area he could recommend me to, since I was having an emergency eye issue, and he said no. A little sympathy for a preexisting patient would have gone a long way. To his credit, he did later call me with a cancellation, but I had already made an appointment elsewhere, where they were much kinder to me on the phone! If you do come here, make sure they actually take your insurance, and don’t expect any niceties or for someone to actually care about you. 2 stars because I did like Dr. Kaplan (although I think she’s gone now?) and you can schedule appointments online.

I was fitted for contacts and she explained all of the options and wasn't trying to push me to the most expensive, but to the option that would be best for me. The office staff is also really friendly. I will certainly continue to come here for glasses and contacts.Edit: I have had a few further appointments with Cambridge eye group including today and all of the doctors and staff are incredibly knowledgeable and very thorough. As long as I live in the area I plan to continue to be a patient here.

Virginia Hutton: I was desperate for an eye doctor and called them. They had no apts, but they kindly offered to let me wait to slip me between apts. I didn't want to do that, and was looking elsewhere when they called back to say they had a cancellation. I was in and done within the hour. Dr. Kong was great, very informative, professional, kind not to mention punctual and efficient. The office is small but well laid out with very friendly reception and comfortable wait chairs to boot. So glad I found them and the location could not be more convenient.

The doctors are super nice, knowledgeable, and the staff is effective at managing booking/scheduling to work with your schedule.I see Dr. Kaplan and she's so patient, caring, and kind! I often feel rushed but Dr. Kaplan definitely gives you her time and attention.They also have a great frame selection, which surprised me since it's a pretty small office - there's a huge variety regardless, from luxury brand to standard frames and light weight options (important for me since I have heavy lenses).

Fernando Vaca: This eye clinic is like a Michelin star restaurant. The moment you walk in, you are greeted with a smile by the receptionist and the manager. They already have your insurance checked and the manager will explain the insurance coverage for you. The doctor was top notch - he was very intelligent, courteous, and understood and addressed all of my needs and questions.The opticians were organized, and knew their stuff well. This was amazing because I never have been in an eye clinic where everyone was helpful and everyone was so knowledgable about whatever they were responsible of. Highly recommend if you are in the neighborhood.

Tom Salazar: I usually do no like to review doctors office, but I am writing this after my last bout of chemotherapy. My eye exam here saved my life. I came in for eye exam for contact lenses, but the Doctor noticed signs in the back of my eye that prompted her to contact my PCP for a full evaluation /MRI / labs. Turns out I have an early tumor in my lung that migrated also to the back of my eye - and the signs were very subtle. I was lucky to be treated early and I am alive and well after months of treatment. I am grateful. While I was at the hospital - the eye surgeon told me that the signs in my eye were so subtle he was amazed that my eye Doctor even took time to investigate.Bottom line: I came in wanting a contact lens exam and wanting to buy more contacts, but ended up having an eye exam that saved my life.

Angelo Nakos: I bought a pair of glasses as well as regular sunglasses from here.I have been here for my annual eye exam a few times.I was very disappointed when the frame that I bought (Etna Barcelona), which is one of their higher end-ones, started chipping off paint right by the hinges.This happened during the first year that I owned this pair, however, due to my busy schedule and other circumstances I was unable to visit this location to have it fixed.The main optician at this location told me when I bought my pair of sunglasses recently to bring my other pair with the issue that I described to see what can be done. I was very disappointed when I went to pick up my sunglasses and the main optician immediately said that they can’t do anything because it’s past the one year mark (something that had been mentioned in our earlier conversation during which she suggested coming in nevertheless).I will be looking for a new optometrist as well as shop for eye glasses.

Serguei Bakhteiarov: Very bad experience today with the customer service. I arrived 10 minutes before my appointment and was waiting 30 minutes to be seen. Nobody did. Nobody but me was in waiting room as well. The manager Cathleen was very jumpy and rude to me when I asked how long am supposed to wait for my appointment. Wasn’t a good experience at all. I would not recommend this facility if you respect yourself. I used to be a client since 2012-2013 and everything was fine, but now I am looking for ophthalmologists who respect my time.

Very courteous and thorough exam and great service picking out new frames. Selection isn’t as great as online or larger shops, but much more personal service, andI found what I was looking for. Frank D'Anna: I've been going to Harvard Square eye care for a number of years (I've lost count, at least 9). I get my eyes checked religiously because of family genetic history. My experience with the doctors has been positive. However, I've never seen the same Doctor twice. Additionally, it seems to feel more and more like a used car dealership where they are trying to sell you that much needed rust proofing, or, in this case, making sure you use up all your eye benefits on overpriced contacts and glasses. This is the formula that seems to work well for a lot of places, not just this place, but it's exhausting for the customer and they try to make you feel guilty for not buying, which is a lousy tactic.I don't get the impression that the yoga-pants-wearing staff are very happy with their jobs. I wouldn't be either if I had to constantly push products and upsell. My experience has been wildly variable from very pleasant to "clearly this person is having a bad day."The owner is a savvy business person and I congratulate her on her success, but what I care about is protecting my vision, continuity of care, and not feeling like a wallet with legs.

Her staff always follow up with you after and they make you feel like family. There is a family owned store opening to her office. The store has new collection of glasses everytime I go. I always get my contact lenses from them and they are the best at suggestions on anything eye care and they even give you samples so you can try which ones suit you best and place your order.
