They have the best selection of frames, at the best prices— you actually get two for the price of one, which is very nice to have if you want to keep a spare or some sunglasses on hand. No in-house optometrist to do the refraction, but they will work with whatever you bring them and make sure it gets done right. Michael can fill most orders in an hour, depending on whether he has the frames and lenses in stock. He also makes adjustments and corrections very quickly on demand. Very satisfied customer.

Chaiya Zalles: I have been going to Parelli Optical for probably over 25 years. Every visit has been met with excellence in care and personal attentiveness. The care and attention to individual detail, both historically and currently, instills a feeling they KNOW your case and needs, and proceed with your interest in mind, in collaboration with you. This is whether it is an eye exam, or new lenses. Each done with a high level of professionalism and knowledge. They are also always well organized, friendly, and a pleasure to be a customer.

Samantha Sheehy: My contact lens fitter, John Parrelli, worked with me for more than an hour to provide TONS of information about the contact lens industry, specific lenses, and what might work for me.  The extraneous information was appreciated but unnecessary - I must have heard him tell me how long he's been in business over 10 times.After the hour long initial appointment, I left with a pair of trial contacts, which I hated. I went back after a week, submitted to another "fitting" exam (still a full 45 minutes!)  and got a new pair of trial contacts, which I hated. When I went back a third time, I was very frustrated since I'd entered their office seeing just fine with my old contacts. The contact lens tech said she would need to see the old packaging from those contacts, which I didn't have. Also, I was realizing that my glasses were the wrong prescription as well. One day I tried to be very assertive and clear about my frustrations and what I wanted done, but I soon realized that the contact lens tech just didn't know what to do to help me see.It was a multiple appointment process with him having me do a test run of several different lenses to make sure that they lens sat properly on my eyes.  So much work.And once I finally had an Rx in hand, I discovered that because of my astigmatism (newly diagnosed by Dr. Parelli, ha), my health insurance wouldn't cover the "contact lens fitting fee" - an additional $175, that I had to pay out of pocket.This place is very expensive, very assertive in their sales tactics, and I won't be going back again (a 4th time).
Dmitry Merzon: I have a descent amount of astigmatism. I was always told by the bigger optical chains that there was no way to get my prescription into sunglasses that had any curve at all. Well, I got a really great pair of sunglasses from Parelli Optical in Porter Square today, something I was told for years couldn't be done. Great job, I'll be coming for a second pair soon!

Jonathan Ganc: Great experience. I went into Parelli about 2 months ago to get a glasses and contact script. I was first seen by Dr. Seligman. She was very meticulous and spent a lot of time to correctly measure an astigmatism in my glasses rx. Then, I was helped by Dr. Matt in checking my contact lens fit. I ended up trying on one pair of contacts, deciding it was too expensive, and then trying on another. I ended up seeing Dr. Matt three times. He was very competent but also very patient and kind. In retrospect, I know that I ended up using up a lot of Dr. Matt's time, but he never showed it in how he behaved.
Rated by Hanna: After being scammed by a local Optometrist, I was skeptical of going out of my way for a place 25+ minutes away without traffic. They squeezed me in a few weeks ago for an appointment before the end of the year push to use up FSA balances. Originally the first weekend opening they had wasn't until January! All of the staff there are top notch now that I have a clear confirmation of my other failed experience. I finally got a prescription that works for me and a pair of glasses that fit perfectly! My previous pair were way too strong in the astigmatism and instantly gave me a headache after 1 hour of wear.The founder, John Parrelli also helped fit me with the best dailies torric contact lenses. Even though he could have advised me to purchase several of the 30 packs he said since I don't wear the lenses too frequently it is better if I wait until the beginning of 2017 when they will release the 90 pack bulk option for even more savings. The staff took their time and care with me when assessing my vision along with considering my previous observations with my prescriptions to customize one for me.I love my new Black Fin titanium lenses and prescription sunnies! Also for anyone else shopping around this family-owned business is one of the few independent places not owned by the Luxottica monopoly! They also have locations in Beverly, Danvers, and North Andover.

Rachel Distler: while my experiences with the opticians I have seen there have been good; (though both of the Drs I worked with no longer work there), I find it VERY frustrating that they are very unresponsive to efforts at communication other than in appointments. If you call them by phone, you will likely be unable to get through, and if you call on Sunday or Monday, when they are closed, they don't even have a voicemail set up where you can leave messages. The email address on their website is wrong, so you also can't contact them by email. Also, when I got glasses there, they really tried to upsell me in a big way. I won't be going back there and would no longer recommend them.

The staff is friendly and helpful, the clinicians and technicians are top-notch, and the service is very personal. They have a huge selection of frames, including sunglasses and other specialty lenses. For contact lens wearers, they'll order your contacts for you, ship them to your house for free, and match any price you find online.
Lauren Bortolami: John Parrelli and his team changed my life. I have been going here for over 20 years. John spent close to one year researching the best eye surgeon due the complexity of double vision and a lazy eye and found Dr. Jennifer Mullon of Lexington Eye Associates in 2009. I just left Parrelli Optical for a eye and contact exam. I have to say all of these years I have left impressed with John and his staff as they take so much time to make sure you are where you need to be. I have had eye issues since the age of two. They have changed my prescription over the years because my eyes are so complicated. This place is not inexpensive but if you want the absolute best to be able to see and function properly you shouldn't look (no pun) any further. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I like to really understand about my body and she explains everything in detail and shows me the graphics that go along with the explanations. She's gotten my prescription correct where other's have not. I use my insurance for all eye exams, so that's a routine cost. I understand that I could probably get my glasses more inexpensively elsewhere, and may in the future, but I'll go to Dr. Seligman as long as she's there.

Do I do so every few years, yes. If you have a simple eye problem don't bother, unless you want perfect lenses and interesting frames. If you have been having a problem, this is definitely the place to go.

Antonio Cardoso: On Monday the 22 around 11am I walked in there to ask a simple question before I made my purchase as soon I walked in there there was a heavy set woman seated behind the counter glass, she did not even welcome or hi can I help you, first thing she asked me do you have a mask I said no I don’t, there was no sign at all at the door about a mask anyway the way she attended me it was kind of rude , than I told her no problem I will leave the store know I don’t have a mask , than there was another woman there that provided me with mask and helped me and answered all my question, the sad part of this you are walking into a place to spend your money and you get treated like you went there to bag for something, I don’t feel comfortable to walk in there anymore to spend my money therefore I will never return to this location.
Laura Joyce, LICSW: I love the receptionists and the doctor! I was in so much pain a few months ago from over wearing my contacts and they fit me right in after I strolled in from work. The doctor taught me a lot about my eyes and made recommendations on how to avoid having a similar issue in the future. I also bought beautiful glasses which I promptly broke but they immediately fixed and sent to me. Other reviews seem to say they're not the cheapest but honestly you only get one Set of eyes so if you really want top level care and products I would recommend them.
Giacomo Gorini: FOREIGNERS BEWARE - go to Harvard Square Eye Care instead.I went to Brattle Sq Optical because of bad headaches probably due to my lenses being too strong. I had insurance and I asked for my yearly free checkup (I had just moved to the States).I feel they did not state clearly enough which services were covered by the insurance and which ones were not. So I was led to do this and that, without being told that was extra. I did not want to leave a review, but I saw there are others like mine so I understand it might be their way to do things.Anyway, I entered for my free visit, left with a 300$ bill. The doctor did his job and gave me a better prescription, sure, but isn't that what doctors are supposed to do?Also, a couple of days later I asked if they had free samples for my lenses which I had ordered after the visit, but had not arrived yet. They said they did not. I asked them if they had lenses of a similar brand in stock, so that I could use those while I waited. I explained my headaches were killing me. The person on the phone told me that if I wanted a different brand, I needed to go back for a visit. Hell no! She also sounded quite rude and treated me like I was an idiot. I did not like that. I cancelled the order.So I called Harvard Square Optical and explained my problem. They said they did not have the lenses I needed in stock, but they'd call around to see if they would find them. They called me back five minutes later, told me they had found them and that I could pick them up later in the day. They gave me free lenses until they received a box of the ones I needed.
Yan Moore MD: As a physician myself, I can attest to the fact that Dr. Philips is a seasoned doctor of optometry with decades of experience and vast knowledge. He did one of the best and more comprehensive eye exams I ever experienced, and shared a lot of his vast knowledge with us. The staff is friendly and professional, and willingly/happily consults on the many options for eye and sun glasses. I highly recommend this practice for people looking for top eye care coupled with superior high end equipment.
Ashley Kim: The doctor and staff tricked me into taking an eye exam alternative (rather than getting my pupils dilated) which was not covered by my insurance, after I explicitly asked for a standard exam that would be completely covered by my insurance. They had assured me that everything would be covered, but tricked me into taking this “very important photo” during the appointment that cost a lot and was not covered. I felt very used afterwards.Will not be going back or recommending to any of my loved ones. If you want ethical care staff, don’t go here. It looks like my sentiments have been echoed by others- I suggest looking at their incredibly low Yelp reviews.

I was also asked income profiling questions about where I worked. Felt as though I was completely ripped off and don't even want to wear contacts after all this. Very bad experience.

I have had eye and contact exams for over 12 years across many different eye offices and have always always only needed to pay my insurance copay (I have always had the same vision insurance). They overcharged my mother $200 by saying she needed a "special" contacts exam (She has the same insurance) - despite her having the same exact prescription for the last 20 years. Our insurance clearly notes that contacts exams are covered. Brattle Optical insisted that they told her of the additional fees up front but they never disclosed anything...until the exam was over and completed. Please go somewhere else where they are honest. I have seen other reviews here claiming the same issue so we are clearly not the only ones.

Philip Seger: I've been for multiple years at this point and gotten new glasses, frames, and sunglasses. The eye doctor is absolutely fantastic and super efficient. I think the whole eye exam (plus the cool retinal scan instead of using eye drops, which is the best) only took 20 or so minutes. Afterwards, I was helped to pick out new frames and the suggestions were absolutely fantastic. I trust the staff's judgment completely! Every person in the office is very nice and I will continue coming here as long as I live in the area.

Laurel Beede: I had a wonderful eye exam and contacts consultation with Dr. Murphy last week. She gave me trial boxes of contacts to see if they worked well for me and said she could recommend different types if I didn't like them. I asked how I would go about obtaining contacts if I did like the ones I was trying out, and she said I could order them through Custom Eyes. I left that day intent on further testing out the trial contacts they gave me. Today the owner of the store, Kevork, called and informed me that the year supply of contacts I had ordered had come in. I informed him that I did not order any contacts from them, let alone a year supply. He was insistent that I had called and spoke to him and there was a "note on my file". I was so confused as I would clearly remember ordering $600 worth of contacts. He said he had billed my insurance and everything. I told him to cancel anything that had to do with this order and confirm with me when it was cancelled. He called me back ~30 mins later and doubled down on how I had placed the order with him IN PERSON (I did not talk to him while I was there except to check in for my exam) after my exam last week. He would not back down, insinuating that I was lying and had simply "found a better deal" , and I told him it felt like he was trying to underhandedly take my money. He said he didn't need my charity and to take my business elsewhere which I will absolutely be doing. I'm really upset that this happened as well as by how it was handled. If you have a customer telling you they did NOT place an order with you (I have no charge, receipt, etc.), then I'd hope that a business would recognize that they might have made a mistake. Again, I had a perfectly good experience during my exam last week but this experience has completely soured things.

chad leahy: At every step, Custom Eyes outpaces the competition. The exam was quick, easy, informative and professional. Kathleen explained options and spoke authoritatively to my concerns. Kevork helped me find glasses that actually fit my giant head, for the first time in my life, AND they were stylish and he narrowed the large selection down to just a few based on my preferences so I wasn't left to wander around trying things on randomly like at other places. I will go here and nowhere else ever again.

Presley Pizzo: I've had great experiences getting eye exams here, but today I wanted to look into getting my lenses replaced. The anti-glare coating had scratched off and when I looked online for what to do about it, it looked like it would involve sending them away for two weeks or shipping them to the boutique where I bought the frames. So I contacted Custom Eyes just to get my prescription, but they said they could replace the lenses for me. I took them in, did some shopping at HMart, and in about half an hour I had my glasses back with perfect new lenses! They just have great service all-around.

They've gone to great lengths to make sure I'm happy with my purchase (which I am, they have a great selection). I initially had some mild discomfort on the bridge of my nose. Rob provided multiple solutions and even noticed a small amount of looseness on the hinges and so ordered a replacement pair. It's evident that they put customer satisfaction first. I've been recommended to them by multiple people and I have had no regrets. I anticipate being a lifetime customer!
Wend Shawn: Another optometrist just told me the frame I got here is too narrow, and the bad angle is causing my headache. I didn’t replace it before because I already replaced the first pair that has obstructions. They should have measured the proper frame length.If they’re willing to give partial refund, I can take the review down.
Kelley Perry: While Dr. Cope and the folks who work at this SEE Eyewear are always very friendly, I had a fairly poor experience ordering contacts. The first order I received was the wrong prescription and was not the same type I tried on during my appointment. They then provided me with a trial pair, which was the correct type - but this prescription was different than the first, and again, was not correct. When I called and said my vision didn't feel quite right, Dr. Cope insinuated I was putting the wrong contact in each eye (I wasn't). Finally, I said I'd like to just go back to the contact lenses I was originally using. They ordered them, and they finally sent the correct type and prescription! I'm happy it was eventually settled, but it took far too long for them to figure it out (this process was around 2 months from start to finish). It was also difficult to continue advocating for myself when I was getting pushback on what was clearly a problem on their part, not mine.My experience may not be the norm for this office, and others may have a fine time using this SEE location for their contact needs. However, I will be seeing a different optometrist going forward.
Kerin Perez Harwood: I saw a funky pair of glasses I liked online and figured I would check them out in person. As usual, the funky glasses I liked didn't fit with my face shape. Amy noticed I needed help and came to the rescue. She was very attentive and listened to what I was looking for and what I didn't like about my previous pair of glasses. She pulled around 6 different type of frames, one of which I would have never even picked up off the shelf if I was just browsing alone, the other was actually a pair of frames that were not even on the showroom floor. I loved them both! If it wasn't for Amy I probably would have just left with nothing, but instead I ended up with two funky pairs of glasses that I was actually excited about. Plus I got to take advantage of their buy-one-get-one 50% off sale. Let go our your resistance to ask for help and let Amy find your favorite glasses for you. Highly recommended.

The doctor associate was thorough, detailed, explained everything, was knowledgeable, pleasant, and generally went above and beyond to provide exceptional care.Dr. I (Doctor Eye) gave such a powerful presence and thoroughly explained my exam results and addressed related issues. She’s currently teaching in practice and I’m so thankful for the presence of powerful female doctors.Stella, the eyewear associate, provided the eyewear consult and we looked through soo many fun options!What an all-around exemplary place to treat your eyes. Now my daughter is 15 and I am sitting in her clinic giving the reviews. I guess that explains a lot . K Fishman: I should’ve looked at the yelp reviews before coming here.Had a routine eye exam a few months ago for a new rx because my other rx expired.Went here because of the high ratings on google but was very disappointed.The optometrist tried to help me find contacts that wouldn’t irritate my eczema. He gave me a few to try at home but many of them unfortunately didn’t fit/stay in my eyes. Only one brand which is an old brand I used to use worked. Every time I tried the contacts was during the day. Also the optometrist called me 7x at work in a row and wouldn’t leave a voicemail telling me that he would leave these contacts for me at the front desk which was frustrating because it wasn’t urgent. It was disruptive and a voicemail could’ve easily been left.Fast forward to when I get my script and contacts ordered. I rarely use my contacts except maybe 2x/week during the day. I recently used the new script to purchase glasses at warby parker and got the glasses last week to find out driving home at night that the optometrist did not put my astigmatism on the script. So now I’m stuck with $150 (after insurance) worth of contacts with the wrong script and a $300 pair of glasses with the wrong script that I can’t return.I called the office last weds to get a somewhat rude front desk person who was trying to make excuses and avoid taking any responsibility for the issue. Finally at the end of the 10 min or so back and forth he finally agreed to schedule me with the optometrist next week but would call me back.I never got a call back.I would avoid coming here. If my prior rx accounted for an astigmatism you shouldn’t take that off a script. Its now challenging for me to drive at night and I run the risk of possibly crashing my car at night due to inadequate vision. I wish I still had my old glasses to use so I wouldn’t be in this position.Now I have to go find a whole new optometrist and pay full price again for everything let alone take time off to make an eye appointment.

The first time there was a defect in the frame, the second time the progressive part of the lens was too high, and the third time I have no idea what happened but I couldn’t see out of the glasses at all. I called and spoke with customer service and she said she was sorry we put the prescription in as it was given to us. The strange thing is is I have the same prescription in two different glasses That are not Warby Parker and I can see fine? I asked if I could speak to someone about the quality, and she said there wasn’t anybody but they would look into it when the glasses were returned. Anyway maybe it’s worth a few more hundred bucks to get a pair of progressive lenses that work. I think single vision glasses is probably a great bargain with this chain, but may not be the beat choice
